This is a great little quaint family-owned restaurant. The couple owners are sweet and attentive. The female owner is from southern Thailand. Good price and portion. Medium spicy is not that spicy but still has a nice kick. Spicy is about siracha level. We ordered: - Papaya salad (4/5): I know a place is more legit when they crush fresh red chili for their papaya salad. However this would be perfect if the dressing was less salty and less sour. I feel like it needs a touch of sugar to balance the taste . - Kao Soy curry noodle with chicken (4.5/5): the broth is so creamy, flavorful, and thick which I love! Spicy level gives the perfect kick. A tad bit too much noodles and crunch toppings, but still highly recommend! - Pad See Ewe with beef (4.5/5): drunken noodles is yummy. For some reasons it's been hard to find a place with good drunken noodles in chicago. They either lack brown sauce taste or just straight up too much stir frying and bland. This is definitely one of the better ones in Chicagoland area. The red sour chili sauce goes well with it. We also asked for a fish sauce with chili condiment and were so surprised when they gave us one with freshly crushed chili! This only happens at home so my Asian self was impressed lol. While we were there, we saw a lot of people coming in to buy Thai tea to go. So it must be good :). We would definitely come back! read more

The only reason i went there for food pick-up was from all the 5 star reviews. I've never eaten there before. 4pm pick up on a Friday with only 2 customers sitting in a dingy, dark restaurant without any music or staff nearby. I didn't want to judge but i should've predicted the food would get me sick later. Had to yell out "hello" 3 times to get help while i saw staff's feet sitting behind a curtain ignoring me and my food sitting on the counter getting cold. After getting home and opening the pad Thai and the Hawaiian noodles, the Hawaiian looked interesting but the pad Thai looked so without color, and i eat pad Thai from other places so i knew from the start this pad Thai does not look 5 stars like the other reviews said. But anyways i shared my food with another person. That night i got sick. The other person, who never gets sick from food and has an iron stomach, heated up left overs (a lot left cuz i didn't like it) and ate them. He then woke up a few hours later and had an upset stomach and diarrhea. I had diarrhea that evening i ate the food and the next day throughout the morning. There is no way this place is so many stars. I used to live in forest park and it's a shame its residents thing this is actually good food. For those prices, i eat at much better places. read more

Great dishes, whether traditional or innovative. I myself am a Pad-Kee-Mao person; it did not disappoint, and it may be the best I've ever had--not just hot, but flavorful. Companions enjoyed their Pad Thai, Tom Yum Soup, (Chicken) Satay, Bangkok Chicken, and we've liked a couple of dishes (the exact names of which don't appear on the online menu), a seafood pasta, and, especially, a green noodle dish--perhaps a special. Haven't tried the Thai Iced Coffee yet, but will soon. Friendly staff, nice ambience without pretense, reasonably priced. Highly recommended, and is making me hungry as I write. read more

My friend and I have been dining at Yum Thai for years. We finally were able to check out there new location. The first thing I noticed before walking in is there beautiful signage above the exterior of the building. The dining room is cozy and decorated with wood carvings on the walls. The owners are delightful. They make you feel like part of the family. Our server was exceptional, The food at Yum Thai has always been great and even better at this new location. they have a BYOB policy, bring your own bottle of wine or whatever alcoholic beverages you like, and the server will supply the glasses, and the wine opener. We got takeout from Yum Thai a couple of times recently based on a positive article in the local newspaper and a positive Yelp rating. Sad to say, it didn't live up to our expectations. Our first order included tom kha shrimp soup, which was delicious. The beef panang curry had minimal peanuts and basil, gloppy rice, and chewy beef; I ordered medium heat, but it was spicy hot. The chicken pad kee-mao had mushy noodles and undercooked bell peppers. Our second order included the same yummy soup. Pot stickers were a bit dry & doughy. The chicken lemon grass stir-fry was medium spicy, as ordered, but had only a few flecks of lemon grass and very little flavor. Disappointing - we're not likely to order again. read more

I had an unusual ordering experience tonight. When my food wasn't delivered after two hours, I called GrubHub, who spoke to Vicky, the owner of Yum Thai, who then called me to figure out what happened. She said my food had been delivered and then I realized that for the first time in my life, I entered the wrong address to my own house. My food from Yum Thai was delivered to my neighbor. I went next door to ask what happened and found my neighbor's teen daughter, rather sheepishly admit to taking the delivery because she thought her parents orders it ... and ATE IT. I called Vicky back and she was apologetic. I told her it wasn't anyone's fault, just a unique situation. But she kept asking me if I was hungry and if I had dinner. She offered to quickly make some vegetarian food and personally drive it over. I was really touched. About 20 minutes later, Vicky showed up with almost my original complete order, but the food tasted better because it was packed with care. This was my first time ordering food here and this is also the first review where I barely talked about the actual food (which was delicious). A new favorite when I'm craving some comfort food. With dining spaces opening up again, some friends and I decided to dine in at yum thai. When we got there, we were seated immediately and treated like royalty. The service was so fast, and they truly went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and taken care of. They even offered us some gyoza on the house! I ordered their crab Rangoon and a green curry, both of which were absolutely delicious. Their curry had the perfect amount of spice and had a rich coconut flavor. Portions sizes were very large, and I ended up having enough leftovers for two more meals! My wife and I had the pleasure of eating lunch at Yum Thai in Forest Park today. I truly cannot say enough good things about the quality of the food. We started with chicken satay with peanut sauce, a Thai cucumber salad and crispy Thai spring rolls. Each dish was well spiced and tasted delicious. The satay chicken was well seasoned and not dry. Then we shared an order of Red Curry Chicken. This disk was also delicious and full of chicken. Our waitress could not have been nicer or more attentive. Yum Thai is a solid Thai option in the Forest Park neighborhood which offers dine in and delivery until 9pm on weekdays. Relying solely on pictures from other Yelpers, I decided to try the Pad See Ew and Cucumber Salad. I called in the order for take out as opposed to delivery mainly because I wanted to take in what was left of today's great temperature. The restaurant is located in a strip mall with Papa John's near the train tracks and Good Earth. Upon parking in front I noticed additional parking is available in the rear of the building. My wife and I went to get our taxes taken care of. Afterwards we were looking for someplace to have dinner so of course I went to my trusty Yelp guide and tried to find a restaurant in the area. Surprisingly there are quite a few Thai restaurants along Madison Ave. We decided on Yum Thai located @ 7748 W Madison Street in Forest Park. When we entered the restaurant the owner? Or hostess seated us and gave us a menu. They have a very large selection of items to choose from, a combination of Thai & Chinese dishes. We ended up ordering an appetizer of spring rolls which was very good. The Spring Rolls had Bean sprouts, tofu, cucumber & eggs topped w/plum sauce. My wife ordered the Yum Thai Noodle Dish w/soft egg noodles, vegetables, crab stick, BBG pork, fried won ton, house sauce topped w/ground peanuts. It was pretty good (I just ate the leftovers for lunch). I ordered the chicken basil (which I always seem to order?). The chicken basil was prepared differently. As usual it had chicken (duh go figure?, basil (sweet basil not Thai basil), onions, green peppers (really?) & green beans (really?). It was kind of different, but it was tasty. The prices are pretty reasonable, but not the largest portions (we still had left overs though). The waitress was very cute w/a very nice personality. Overall it was a very enjoyable & pleasant meal. If I am in the area I would definitely go back again, but next time I will try something else besides the chicken basil read more

Just went to the new location after a long hiatus. The new location is a cut above their previous one, but still unpretentious. I did not recognize the staff from before, but they were really friendly and helpful, just as always. Most of what we ordered this time was very good. I tried a basil forward dish instead of my usual favorite panang curry, and enjoyed it quite a lot. I would pass on the chicken wings for now, they were batter heavy and low quality. Their former recipe was delicious. The wings were a nice, medium size, marinated and grilled, then stir fried in a spicy-sweet glaze that included bits of garlic, galangal, lemon grass, and cilantro. Hope they go back to that recipe, it was excellent, very Thai home-style, and would be worth the price increase. read more

We go here 2-3x per month. They are so, so kind and the food never disappoints. I almost always get red curry with chicken, my husband has tried several dishes including the green curry, catfish curry, and Bangkok chicken. The same waitress has taken care of us each time and she is so warm and welcoming. As far as ambiance, it's always clean, they do lower lighting at dinner time. I thought you Thai was very good. I had the Mussels, chicken wingettes not wings, chicken egg rolls and cucumber salad. Mussels: the mussels were very well seasoned. If you have prepared mussels before you know seasoning is very important. Not too much not too little. You do not want t over power with seasoning and drown out the flavor of the mussel. Also too little seasoning won't give the flavor of the mussels more strength. Remember it shod be an enhancer. Yum Thai found a great sweet spot for intense mussel flavor. Also the contrast of the sweet and salty flavor gave me a new take on the mussels. I'm usually seasoning with more of a Cajun flare. 5.0 Chicken Wingettes: the wingettes were as expected. The preparation of them was nothing you haven't already had. The flavor was was good but I would say a bit too intense, perhaps too much salt. Some bites were fine most were too salty. I would suggest backing off the salt a bit in the batter. 3.0 Chicken egg rolls: these egg rolls were so tasty. Crispy crunchy on the out side and all that juicy goodness on the inside of the veggies and chicken. Very well seasoned. The texture is very important. You have to let the egg rolls drip oil in a container that will slow air to flow all around the roll. This way it stays crispy and not oily and yucky. 4.0 The cucumber salad left more to be desired. I would like to have had more cucumber in my cucumber salad. Also I would like to have had less carrot and shredded lettuce. The sauce (more of a sauce than a vinaigrette) was on the side and lacked the flavor I wanted. They should have taken some of the salt seasoned on the chicken and placed in their sauce. I think more attention should be paid here. Some may consider the side salad as something unimportant but it completes the meal. I think more fragrant herbs can be added to the sauce a bit more salt garlic perhaps to give the sauce more presence. 3 Overall this is a terrific place and deserves a try. read more
