I can't get enough of this Mongolian stir fry! I had a place I would go all the time when I lived in west Lafayette but hadn't found a place in Indy until here. When I was pregnant this was one of the only cravings I would get that had to be satisfied right when I got it. I even went a few times by myself because I couldn't get it off my mind. This was my first time here and I thought it was a great lunch option. You receive a small form where you write your name, preference of steamed rice brown rice or fried rice, and table number. Take the form and your bowl to the back where the ingredients are, stack the ingredients into the bowl, add your seasonings and sauces, then hand off to the chef. They will bring it to your table. I had heard good things about this place but I didn't have good experience I asked the lady at the front who was seating me how this worked and she said wait a minute, I guess meaning the waitress would explain. I told the waitress I've never been here. She explained but I still didn't understand, her second time explaining she seemed rather frustrated. So i ordered a beer and water with no ice.. well she brought me a tall glass of water with ice. So next time she came thru I just got AAC sushi avocado, asparagus, cucumber. I asked for a cup of hot water, she said sure and never brought me the water. I asked the people next to me how this worked. They said you fill the bowl and the weigh it and it is charged by weight. I said I was told it was $16.99 period for the Mongolian bowl. They said they understood it was by weight. Needless to say, I never got clarification, the waitress wasn't trying to listen or work with me so... It's a shame, the food looked good, but I won't be back unless I'm with someone who can explain how it works... It shouldn't be that complicated!!! My wife, a friend, and I have been to Yummy Bowl several times before, but after our most recent visit, I honestly don't know if we can trust this place anymore. We ordered the all-you-can-eat bowls and selected a variety of ingredients, including chicken, pork sausage, fish, salmon, and scallops. When the food came out, the chicken and pork sausage were there, but somehow the seafood items were missing. It's hard not to question what happened when only the more expensive ingredients disappeared. When we brought it up to the staff, they didn't seem surprised, which made it sound like this may not be an uncommon issue. We've enjoyed coming here in the past, but experiences like this make it difficult to trust that you're actually getting everything you selected. read more

This was my first time visiting Yummy Bowl and I really like the concept. They had lots of great Sushi options but I built a bowl. There are plenty of toppings to choose from as far as vegetables and proteins, noodle and rice options.You then choose your seasonings and your sauces and hand your bowl to the hibachi chef's so they can cook it for you and then they bring it right to your table. I've been meaning to check out this restaurant for awhile and finally got to it. I went with a group of 5. The dinning area felt clean. The buffet where you made your bowl was also clean and well stocked. There were so many different meat selections. I did some pork belly, pork, shrimp, chicken and beef. I had also added in a few veggies, some noddles and the two eggs on the side. You put your sauce on the side in little cups. Food was cooked up quickly. It was delivered at different times which met it was fresh, but could be awkward for a group. My food was delicious and I had so much left over. The staff was super friendly and on top of everything. Yummy bowl is an Asian/Hibachi restaurant conveniently located near the Castleton Mall. We ate here for the first time tonight & loved it!! We both had the build your own yummy bowl and we also got a sushi roll to split. The sushi alone would have brought me back, but the hibachi was 10/10 as well! The hibachi buffet had a good variety of veggies, noodles, meat, and seafood. Everything was fresh! I tried just about all the seafood and I enjoyed it all. They had a good selection of seasonings/sauces as well. The restaurant is open concept with large sized booths & tables to accommodate large groups. Very casual atmosphere. Prices were not bad at all. We were expecting our bill to be a lot more than it was! We also appreciated that we were given a little slip with hibachi instructions when we were seated. We were worried we weren't going to know how the hibachi works, so this helped a lot:-) Our only complaint was that the service was kind of slow. Believe the hype. Yummy Bowl is SO GOOD! We were pumped to see that a Yummy Bowl location went in close to home. We stopped in on a Wednesday evening and it was hopping. Once seated, you fill out a card with your table number, name, and choice of rice/noodles to keep with your bowl so they know who it belongs to. Go through the line of raw proteins, fresh veggies and other topping options, add your sauce, and they stir fry it on the flat top while you wait at your table. Folks REALLY got their pile on and I felt like I need to up my game a little. Regardless, I had enough leftovers for lunch the next day as well! We also ordered a California sushi roll just to try it out (it was like $5) and it was tasty. All in all, we WILL return and I will up my balancing game to get more bang for our buck, too. read more

I stopped by Yummy Bowl with my coworkers to grab a bite to eat at lunch. There is a parking lot outside, so that shouldn't be an issue. Inside, it's spacious and clean. I was somewhat confused on how the ordering works, but I was told to let the attendant take my order, then go over to get my food, and come back and pay (we did take out). When doing take out, you pay by the pound. I grabbed my protein and veggies of choice along with the sauces, and gave them to the cooks. I then waited and when I was told it was ready I paid fory food. Being that I was paying by the pound, I didn't agree with how the rice was incorporated into my price. With no prior knowledge of the rice amount, I felt that can jack the price up a lot. Also, it was yellow rice, which I was not expecting. I ended up spending almost $20 for my bowl and an order of crab ragoons. Unfortunately, I wasn't satisfied with my order asy food was burnt. It seemed they didn't clean the grill well. Our ladies night group decided to try out Yummy Bowl! It was quite the experience. Reservations were not needed for our group. I had called in a month prior to bringing our group and they said, just come in and we will accommodate your group. They pushed tables together for us. The staff was very friendly and attentive to our groups many questions. Only 1 from our group had been prior to know how to order. We were all learning the process together. The server took our drink order first and then placed cards on our table. You write your name on the card, pick your rice (fried, white, or brown) and table #. Then you take your card and bowl up to the window and start filling up your bowl with veggies (broccoli, onions, jalapeños, zucchini, etc) then you add protein to your bowl, (chicken, bacon, sausage, shrimp, etc) I wasn't sure if I was allowed to put multiple meats in my bowl. I was trying to watch others and see what they were placing in their bowls. I could not believe how some individuals stacked their bowls like it was a Jenga game until their bowl was so high and food items fell over like a tall mountain. I had requested my rice to be on the side. I also learned that there were eggs at the food bar for the fried rice. But, I didn't get it for my fried rice, so now I know. I learned a lot from the first go around. Your bowl is $14 and then they added gratuity for our group, which was to be expected. I look forward to going back with more knowledge and the challenge of adding more food items into my bowl. They do offer bottomless bowls for an up charge around $4, I believe. I also, learned if you didn't finish your bowl, you could take your leftovers home with you. Which I just wasn't sure the rules for my first visit. Second time visiting this location . The food is delicious and quick. I usually come around lunch during the weekday so it hasn't been busy. No long waits. Server will bring your drink to the table and give you a card to fill out. You can select one out of the three different types of rice with your bowl. You will bring your card up to the chef and pick your items. So many selections to choose from. The food is then delivered to your table within mins. It's a great spot to grab lunch. I rarely leave reviews, but this place was so disappointing I had to. From the moment I walked in, the staff looked irritated and unwelcoming. The restaurant didn't feel clean -- tables were sticky, the floor looked dirty, and not a single worker was wearing gloves while handling food. They tried to charge us dinner prices during lunch and made us feel extremely uncomfortable, like they didn't even want us there. When we questioned the prices and asked to see the scale, they refused to show it, which felt shady and dishonest. On top of that, they actually tried to force us not to share our food -- which makes no sense since we were paying customers. When we decided to just leave, the woman at the counter yelled at us in front of everyone. It was rude, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable. I've never been treated so badly in a restaurant. So I stopped in here yesterday by myself just to get a quick lunch. Everything was fine until after I finished my first bowl. And then the lady came and asked if I wanted to check I said I was wanting to get another bowl. She informed me that it was gonna be four dollars extra per bowl. That I wanted to get. I got one bowl and one drink. My bill was about $18. And I still left very hungry. I don't know how they're gonna say that is it is all you can eat. I've been waiting for Mongolian grill in Indy! It is very common and easy to find in west coast, but here not so much so I was happy to find Yummy Bowl. Fun fact, despite the name, this style of food is not actually Mongolian, it was created by a Taiwanese restauranteur. At time of this review, on weekends the dinner price applies which is $13.99 a bowl. If you wanna go unlimited it is $17.99. The bowl isn't big but they do serve it with rice so it was enough for me. I was excited to see white fish and salmon. Vegetables included zucchini, Napa cabbage, onions, mushrooms etc. there were many things. I was disappointed that the mussels were there, although there was a label for it (said it was dinner only, and I was there for dinner) From the time I left my bowl to when I received the cocked food, it was a little less than 15 minutes. This place was busy. I loved how you can choose from white, brown and fried rice. This place is not just Mongolian grill, they have a full extent of sushi and appetizer menu. All the Mongolian grill places I've been to, they only had appetizers, so it's great they serve sushi too. Will be back read more

Fantastic food! My girlfriend's a bit obsessed with this place now. We'd driven by it a thousand times, but didn't think to try it until we were invited to a party there. The staff are friendly and the food is as good as you want to make it. If you're unfamiliar with this style of barbecue, you fill a bowl with the meats, veggies, and sauces you want from a buffet line. Then they grill it and throw it on rice for you. So it's on you if you like the dish! Remember that they'll add rice even if you grab noodles in the buffet unless you tell them. Ambiance is a bit busy and cluttered. Walking in the restaurant's ambiance is a little unassuming, but the food definitely makes up for it. Our waitress was so bubbly and fun, I wish her got her name but she made the experience great. The concept here is you pay $14 to fill up a bowl as much as you want. I like that the rice options come on the side so it doesn't waste space in your bowl, I wish you could do that for the noodles too because I wanted the udon which took up most of the bowl. But you really can't mess up at this place and if you don't like the food it's on you because you basically construct it yourself lol. Honestly I was just dumping random stuff together that would sound good, and it turned out fire. I loved all the sauce options, and there were lots of seasoning options too although I thought it was weird they were straight up in the containers they come in from like Costco, I feel like they could put them into their own shakers and it was also hard to grab because it was under those plastic shields. Stopped in for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon. We were immediately greeted and seated. I chose an appetizer of spicy crab. It was good. Next up...diy bowls. After selecting fried rice on my card, I got in line to select my veggies and meats. This was my first visit, but it was pretty easy to get the hang of it. I did have some temperature concerns about the raw meat in the lineup, but helpfully the health department and the restaurant are on top of it. When I got to the seasoning, more came out than I expected and I thought I had ruined my bowl. But once cooked, it was really good. Not over seasoned at all. I really enjoyed my meal. You really cannot beat the price per meal at this place! You get to fully customize your Mongolian bowl all the way down to the seasoning, which is amazing for picky eaters. I love being able to try the sauces before committing to any of them as well. As of January 2024, it is $14.99 to build a bowl and if you want another one you can just add $4 for another bowl, but please note you cannot take anything to go if you order all you can eat!! I made that mistake (although, the first time the server gave me a take-out box). Make no mistake though, when you build your bowl people PILE their bowls up. Chef Joseph here. Ate lunch at 82rd St, castleton location. Nice place but they don't know how to cook Mongolian her as they are calling it stir fry. When people put their veggies in the bowl and then select the meat or fish that they want on it. You then move to the sauces you want on it. You have to put the sauce in a little cup instead of on your veggies and meat so I can marinate as a cook it. Instead they cook everything you put in your bowl and then put the sauces on so it doesn't burn the grill so they say this is unacceptable they need to learn how to cook Mongolian correctly. read more
