Omg this spot was bomb! Stopped by for a quick lunch and was really surprised by how authentic everything was. We got the beef noodle soup and the spicy eggplant rice bowl with edamame. Both dishes were full of flavor and spice. The boba was great too. Would highly recommend to anyone in the neighborhood!
I love yumpling! The chicken sandwich is AMAZING- crispy, juicy, and flavorful. The yumplings itself are juicy and the right proportion of doughy and meaty! I also tried the Lou rou fan, and it was the perfect cozy meal. Service takes a few minutes but the staff is so sweet and welcoming!
I've been wanting to try this spot out for a while but only got around to trying it recently. They have a fairly simple menu with some rice options, two noodle dishes, small bites, and dumplings. I tried their pork and chive dumplings. While I really hoped to like this spot, I found that the dumplings were way too salty and not that great. Maybe their other dishes are better?
Friendly staff & tasty food! The basil aioli was so flavorful and I always love when french fries are available with dumplings or sushi. I got the 1/2 pork 1/2 chicken alongside the fries (8 dumplings total). The dumplings were good, but I liked them even more the next day after the seasoning set in. They had a nice seared bottom, but not hard or chewy. About $22 for all.
Yumpling is one of the more authentic Taiwanese restaurants that I've been to in NYC, and I do like to stop by for a nice meal whenever I'm in the area. The restaurant itself is a bit small and doesn't have the most seats, but the counter service and food prep is pretty quick, and table turnover is correspondingly quick, too. I usually order one of the bian dangs here -- I was admittedly a bit put off by the DIY nature thereof haha but got over that. I really like their fried pork chop (classic Taiwanese bento) -- nicely fried without being too salty or soggy -- and I almost always opt for the lotus roots for the veggie side (really crunchy and delicious). The braised egg was a particular highlight :) I've also had the lu rou fan before (another Taiwanese classic) and while it was fine, I did find it to be a bit salty/oily, esp as you get to the bottom of the rice. Price point is a bit high, but not too crazy for the neighbourhood/NYC in general. I also have seen them post some (maybe seasonal) shaved-ice-esque desserts (which look pretty authentic haha) that I'd love to try sometime!
Tried the pork and chive dumpling, Lu Rou fan, Taiwanese popcorn chicken, and the beef noodle soup! I love the noodle texture a lot in the beef noodle soup! My favorite was the beef noodle soup and the popcorn chicken! All were very delicious!
Quick and nice service. Ambiance leans more towards a quick bite to eat. We had this as a late lunch snack and it was perfect for two people to share! We couldn't decide which was better between the pork and chicken and we'd recommend both!
Pretty pleasantly surprised by this place. I could not fathom a better fried chicken sandwich. I kind of like how monstrous the fried chicken patty looks in this bun. The fried chicken was moist and so on point. The fried pork chop, we got on the side, and it actually was not that great. The fried chicken was definitely better. The beef noodle soup was also unexpectedly great. The beef, which there was plenty of, was actually quite moist. Usually it is very dry because of the hot soup, but here it was not. The noodles were also so soft. Win all around. Next time I want to try the friend chicken/pork chop rice combo.
Recently ordered DoorDash from Yumpling and wanted to love it, but sadly wasn't a big fan! I got their chicken dumplings (pink color) and veggie dumplings (green color). I felt the dumplings were kind of ?stale and the skin was very thick/heafty. The veggie dumplings weren't very flavorful and it didn't come with dipping sauce. Maybe I'll come back to try some of their other dishes, but the dumplings really didn't hit it for me.
My friend found this little Taiwanese cafe in LIC for a quick bite and we devoured their popcorn chicken and dumplings. Their popcorn chicken was so crispy and crunchy and my favorite was the basil aioli we had with it. Chicken dumplings are also so good but I would pass on the veggie ones (they were too seaweed like for my taste). Fast and speedy service and they serve Boba!
I came here recently and I am so happy to know that it is still delicious and the employees are still friendly and welcoming. I was so happy that they were still selling their shaved ice and that is what I ordered. I made my own and I am still thinking about that shaved ice; it was so good. I put passion fruit on it with some condensed milk and a coupe of other items. Then I ordered the dumplings which were as delicious flavorful and juicy as I remembered. Everything was great and yes they are worth the trip to Long Island City. The place is nice and has a couple of tables and the place is open. I would definitely come back to try other items or go to their other location.
Solid place for beef noodles or a rice bowl with chicken cutlet. Reasonably priced and it's good for a nice hot meal but it's nothing special either. I would say most of the reviews are incentivized but they're pretty good. Good amount of seating and a clean bathroom.
We were in Long Island City for a Yelp boba crawl event and as luck would have it, Yumpling was one of the stops on the crawl. Lucky for me because I had always wanted to come here for their yumplings and Taiwanese popcorn chicken. Unfortunately the Yelp event only included a free side order of shoestring fries with any order. I was thinking Sam the community manager knew me so well because I needed something savory to offset all the sweet bobas and teas. We ordered the yumpling trio do we could try their pork, chicken and vegetable yumplings. It comes with a dipping sauce and I was going to get the spicy mayo but when i told the order take I wanted a spicy sauce, he suggested the basil aioli. The chicken itself had a nice kick as well, and the combo was pretty good. The yumplings were good as well and reminded me of homemade Korean mandu dumplings because the wrappers are thicker and chewier than typical Chinese dumplings. Unlike mandu, these are topped with chili crisps and scallions, which I really enjoyed. Are they worthy of being called YUMplings, which should mean they are better than other dumplings?? They are good but I think I have to say no. I am a sucker for soup dumplings and pan fried mandu dumplings. I just have to bring chili crisps next time I go for other dumplings. Of the trio, liked the pork ones the best. The shoestring fries were thin and crispy as you would expect but nothing special. They did have boba too but since we were having so many others that day, we did not want to use any stomach space for that here. There are not a lot of tables so would not come here with a big party to sit and eat there. But if you are doing takeout, maybe open the containers if you get the popcorn chicken or fries because the texture of those are very nice and crispy, and it would be a shame to have them lose those characteristics by keeping them in closed containers.
Value of food was really good. Tried the chicken and pork chop. Both were delicious. The chicken was tender and juicy. Not dry at all. The pork was flavorful. Both were decent sized pieces of meat. Sides were yummy as well. The only downside would be the meat sitting on the sides caused them to be soggy on the bottom. Cucumbers could have been crunchier and needed more flavor. Food was prepared quickly and delivered through Relay in a timely manner. read more

Staffs nice, place is as small as the menu, not sure how I feel overall, I'll say the popcorn chicken was good with the basil aioli but the yumpling really should emphasize the DUMPling if ya catch my drift. They make your mouth taste like dead farts... like they dumped way too much garlic powder in by accident and just went with it. Nothing special in my book. The fact they have a fish bowl and a chicken sandwich but don't make a dope fish sandwich with some of those veggies... just seems like a missed opportunity. The Taiwanese eatery is right by the 7 train as it's very easy and convenient to get to. You'll see it as soon as you walk out from the entrance of the subway station. Very quick service from friendly staff. Ambiance wise is pretty peaceful and laidback with these huge scenery photos of Taiwan on the wall. There's also a Taiwanese food map by the entrance of the shop. Yumpling tends to get quite a lot of business while I am eating. I keep seeing food delivery people come by to pick up customers' orders. Very spacious and clean plus there's definitely enough space within the seating area altogether as it isn't cramped in any way. They actually do have a water dispenser for customers to pour water for themselves. Generous of the owner to provide complimentary cold water to wash down the food. Paper napkins and utensils of chopsticks, knives, spoons, & forks are provided in the self-service metal container. If you happen to leave a review on Yelp/Google, you can receive a free drink offer. Customers can sit down comfortably to enjoy the food and chat with friends without being rushed to leave. Ordered a regular box of 8 pork + chives dumplings for a late lunch. Haven't gotten drinks or desserts because don't want to be too full. Paid $13.06 in cash, they do accept credit/debit card as well. I plan on coming back next time to try out the house-made boba tofu pudding or braised beef noodles as they've a variety of dishes, snacks, and drinks from the menu. Overall, the delicious dumplings have decently good flavor and very meaty as the filling on the inside. The dumpling skin is pan-fried until golden brown and crispy on the outside. Sadly, I'm not sure if staff or owner has put too much salt or seasonings for the pork filling because it's just overly salty for my palette. Such a shame that I keep drinking cup after cup of water trying to wash down the extreme saltiness in my mouth. Therefore, I have to take a star off for taste wise. I would suggest to whoever's in charge of the dumplings next time to please go lightly on the seasonings in the future. Super clean and spacious restroom for customers to use. Love little details like its black-and-white newspaper themed wallpaper inside the restroom btw. Yumpling has some typical Taiwanese food that are not commonly found in a neighborhood like LIC. The noodle is chewy and the soup is flavorful. The bian dang is packed with flavor too. We came here to celebrate the Lunar New Year today and are hooked! This place is literally right next to the 7 train on Vernon Blvd/Jackson Ave. The service is amazing! The fried pork chop rice bowl is out of this world! The flavors are so good. The bowl is a good size and I could share it with my husband. The popcorn chicken was the icing on the cake! Always a sucker for a good Taiwanese spot. In my opinion Taiwnese food is not too salty, not too sweet, not too hot, not too boring and just right. I'm biased I know. But at least I can tell you when I come across a gem, it will be for real. Yumpling seems to feature Bian-dang, mandarin for bento equivalent. It's super popular for all workers who want a quick and well balanced lunch (mostly, but of course enjoyed anytime). I got the pork chop biandang and Lu-roe fan, which is the meat sauce with rice. Both smelled sooooo good! The meat sauce gets used in many occasions and it's very authentic. I am more of a short grain rice fan so I was missing that softness just a little. Boba is another thing - to make boba just right is tricky. I think the boba was a tiny bit overcooked but still very yummy. Perhaps it was timing. Right at 12pm on a Sunday the place was hopping and the phone won't stop ringing so the guy had to take a couple of orders before we can be helped. But no problem because we also needed time to study the menu. Can't wait to try other things on the menu! read more

This Taiwanese restaurant in Long Island City is a hidden gem! I recently tried several dishes and everything was delicious. what we ordered: Pork & Chive Dumplings: These large dumplings are packed with flavorful pork and chive filling. The pan-fried bottoms add a delightful crispy texture. Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken: The chicken was crispy and seasoned perfectly, and the basil aioli dip was a great complement. Beef Noodle Soup: The rich broth is packed with flavor, and the beef is melt-in-your-mouth tender. The noodles have a satisfying chew, and the optional mala chili oil adds a nice kick. Strawberry with Mango Sorbet Shaved Ice: This is a must-try, especially on a warm day! The portion is huge, so it's perfect for sharing. The shaved ice is topped with a delicious mix of fresh fruit and other toppings, creating a perfectly balanced and sweet dessert. I've known about this place back when they were a food truck (I used to get lunch from them). Now, it's a smaller brick and mortar on Vernon where we've gone to get pickup a few times. We've tried their Taiwanese fried chicken and their beef noodle soup. Though sometimes the noodle soup can be on the slightly saltier side it still has a very flavorful broth and good beef. If you do order pickup, they package the noodles and soup separately and even put pickled veg and toppings like cilantro on the side. We've ordered their garlic cucumber appetizer, beef noodle soup and different rice bowls. Last time we got the beef rice bowl with lotus root on the side (the pictures are items from their menu a while back so things may have changed since then). You do need to double check their hours since they're not open every day of the week but it's worth stopping by if you're in the area when they are! read more
One of my favorite Taiwanese restaurants in New York. Worth putting up with any 7 train delays to get to this wonderful spot. They serve a lot of classic dishes, as well as dessert which is quite good. The space is a bit smaller, so not as much seating if you want to bring a large party. Other than that, service is always excellent. and food is consistently good. read more

Super close to gantry park and we walked in on a Saturday around 7:30 and there was an open table. A very fast casual place where you order up at the counter then seat yourself and have a number. My group of 4 ordered a lot of things: Chicken sandwich - best thing with the juicy crispy chicken, sweet and soft potato bun, the cilantro spicy dressing was great, overall so good just not a classic Taiwanese dish I'd say Sesame cold noodles - very flavorful and had a good amount of cucumber and carrots, the noodles were a bit too al dente Lotus chips - tasted like potato chips but healthier Veggie dumplings - loved the dumpling skin and lots of filling, just not much flavor Pork chop biandang - the rice was kinda cold but the pork chops were very flavorful and crispy! Cod biandang - not much flavor and the cod was too crispy Eggplant biandang with edamame salad - the eggplant was sauced well but I wouldnt order it again The service was also great, I would definitely come back for the sandwich and the pork chop biandang! read more

I've been wanting to try Yumpling for the longest time but hadn't found myself in LIC let alone Queens for a while. Finally was in the area and picked up a late lunch to go. Got the crispy chicken bian dang. Lu rou fan itself didn't have too much flavor, but the fried chicken was amazing. The batter was light and heavily seasoned. The chicken was juicy. The pickled mustard greens really cut down the fattiness of the meal, and the garlicky cucumbers were crisp and super garlicky. Egg was a nice add, it didn't do much for the dish, but I always appreciate a good marinated egg. The pork and chive yumplings were also pretty good. They had a nice crispy bottom and a good wrapping. The filling was seasoned really well. A solid spot to get food. I ended up splitting my meal with a friend because it was a lot of food. Definitely check it out if you're in the neighborhood. read more

A nice addition to fast food choices, but I was disappointed by their Lu Rou Fan. The flavor of mushroom and spices were overpowering. It tastes bitter at times. Too much broth made the whole dish watery and salty. read more
The location ran out of egg when I came. Even though they did notify while ordering, they simply said we no longer have eggs and did not offer any substitution. I believe that they should have at least tried to substitute the egg with something else. Got the crispy chicken bento and it was ok. The chicken's breading was thicker than I'd prefer. The pickled cabbage was drier compared to other places as well. read more

Great ambiance here, food was amazing!!! Ordered the dumplings and popcorn chicken. I especially like that they have high chairs and they are very very clean. Workers are friendly! So the dumplings come with two sauces, I generally can't eat spicy. I tried their chili sauce and it was doable and also pretty tasty, kinda like laoganma but better. Their popcorn chicken was a generous size, the best I've ever had so far! I highly recommend !!!!!! I also tried their hibiscus rose soda because I rarely see that, very good choice! read more

My family just came back from Taiwan and was searching for any Taiwanese food spots nearby. Saw this on Yelp, gave it a try and dined in. Now I keep on coming back for their lu rou fan, Taiwanese popcorn chicken (spicy with spicy aioli) and best paired with matcha boba. I tried other Taiwanese spots here in Queens but I keep on ordering here. Even having it as my work lunch too. read more

I've been singing my praise about Yumpling with everyone after my visit. It's a casual Taiwanese grab-and-go spot with spacious and clean dine-in area. All the food I tried are straight up 10/10. Unlike other fancy fusionized spots, they take your taste buds to Taiwan with the authentic recipe and friendly service. They played Jay Zhou's music in store which brought the nostalgic millennial vibes lol ＊ Pork & Chive Dumplings Literally love at first bite. They named the restaurant "Yumpling" for a good reason--legit these signature dumplings are YUM. A regular serving (8pcs) can fill you up easily as each is generously stuffed with meat and chive. The bottom had the perfect golden hue and crispiness. My tongue tingled with the salt of the soy sauce and the pungency of mala chili oil. ＊ Fried Pork Chop Bian Dang w/ Garlicky Cucumbers This bento was brimmed with hearty portion of pork chop. The crispy skin was very delectable, coated by toasted sesame, pepper and five-spice powder. What surprised me the most was the braised pork and pickled mustard greens spreading over rice. It gave a wealth of savory and sour flavors that made my taste bud sing. ＊ Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken Very well seasoned with fried basil. I was skeptical about dipping popcorn chicken in sauce, but basil aioli here seriously took it up a level. ＊ Beef Noodle Soup This soup got its richness from meltingly tender braised beef shanks, while the noodles were cooked to perfection and absorbed the essence of the soy sauce based broth. ＊ Fried Chicken Sandwich Once again, this American fusionized burger exceeded my expectation. The size of the chicken cutlet was HUGE! It was nestled between the buttery brioche bun and fresh basil leaves. A thick layer of my fav basil aioli was spread on the inside of the bun. ＊ Taiwan Beer, Apple Cider Enjoying Taiwanese food with Taiwan Beer is the best feeling ever. Yumpling is amazing and I highly recommend to anyone coming by this area or hasn't checked it out yet!!! We had an order of the pork and chive Yumplings- AMAZING. And they are so hearty with the meat so it can fill you up. I recommend ordering another dish along with the dumplings though to balance out the flavors. I ordered the chicken Bian Dang (rice bowl). And it is SO worth it. Not only is the chicken soooo crispy and flavorful, but the chicken is placed over lu rou (braised pork) and the mix of flavors is HEAVENLY. Service is pretty quick. There is limited seating but the Gantry park is so close so bring your food over to the waterfront and enjoy there!! The wait for the food went pretty quickly too, and the food is served fresh and hot. My boyfriend enjoyed the fried chicken sandwich, and he ordered as side of the lotus root chips, which tasted like potato chips, with a good amount of salt, just prettier :) Yumpling, I am definitely coming back to you!!! read more
