Was a rainy day and needed a place to stay dry and avoid World Cup crowds so I decided to finally try this spot, as it's been on my list for a while. The food was great, & loved the teas. Service was also on point.

Party of 2, walk-in for dinner. We were passing by and mentioned how neither of us had been here yet so we decided it would be good for dinner. There is a full selection of LAANKEE bubble teas etc. They should have more signage outside so that people know about the bubble teas! Plenty of seats inside, nicely decorated. The staff was attentive and it was easy to pay with toast. Bonus - free bubble tea with $30 purchase that my friend enjoyed. We each had the Mala Spicy Soup Rice Noodles with brisket. Less one star because the meat was very overcooked. Probably precooked to full temp then tossed in. The soup itself was a very good portion - plenty of noodles, good flavor without the mala flavor being overpowering, and I like tbe tofu skin and veggies that are included. I would come here again but not order beef.

I went to this restaurant based off of the reviews. It is very low key and there's no need to make reservations. They do have a lot of seating and people seem to come here just to hang out and chill after they order food. You can order a variety of stuff like noodles, soup dumplings, bubble tea, and etc... For the table we ordered the scallion pancakes, chicken popcorn and pork xiaolongbao. I enjoyed all the food. If you order $50 and above you can get one of their drinks complimentary. There are limited drinks that you can get. I got the jasmine lemon tea. I shouldn't have gotten any as they all had caffeine in it and I couldn't sleep afterwards. Lesson learned. I got the Beef brisket original bone soup rice noodles. Flavor wise it was too plain for me so I put a lot of chili oil in it and that helped. I thought everything was great, but the bathroom didn't have soap so that was a concern. I alerted the staff and they went out to purchase more soap. I wonder why they didn't have it in stock!

2 in 1 noodle restaurant and drink place that recently opened up in Astoria. Quiet and clean interior. Udon stir fry was perfectly seasoned and they were generous with the chicken portion. Enough to feed me for two meals! The mala spicy noodle also really hits the spot if you're looking for something hot, very generous with the fish filet portions as well. EDIT we had an unsettling experience with one of the staff members - the long haired ponytailed girl behind the boba counter. They have a promo where if you spend $50, you can get 2 free drinks. We were told we met the minimum for the drinks, so we ordered our two drinks. However upon receiving the drinks, the long haired girl told us that we were $3 short. We weren't informed that apparently, the total had to be $50 PRE TAX. She treated us very dismissively and was rude in telling us that we can either send back a drink or order something else to meet the minimum. I understand restaurant policy, but the message was delivered in the worst way possible. We ended up paying for one of the drinks, and this experience left a very bad taste in our mouths. The food is great, service can be MUCH improved. :-/

Absolutely INCREDIBLE clean, but casual Asian fusion dimsum spot. Looks to be family run - regardless, incredible quick and attentive service. I am so happy and excited to see this place be an Astoria staple after seemingly only being around for under a year and still staying strong with their reviews and s. Wishing them much success and will be back!

A welcomed addition to the neighborhood! Restaurant was spacious and clean. Food was alright, can't say it was anything to write home about. The soup dumplings didn't have much soup in them and flavor was decent.

The tables are clean and the atmosphere is very nice

Beautiful decor and great service. Food is delicious. Great selection of noodles dumplings and teas.

solid rice noodle place with pretty big portions. the fish did have a little bit strange if a texture like it was frozen and quickly defrosted. the laankee milk tea is decent too. nice to see a pretty authentic chinese place finally in this area. they have plenty of seating and service is fast and friendly.

Amazing service! The server helped answer some questions from the menu. I love the Laankee bubble tea brand. It is a legit Hong Kong-style shop inside the restaurant. Should be promoted more!! The food came out fast. Soup dumplings were yummy! Lots of soup in them. Spicy Mala soup was spicyyy but tingles well on the tongue. Udon was chewy, beef was tender. I'm gonna definitely come back, a staple now to the Astoria neighborhood!!

Beef brisket Mala rice noodles and fried gyoza

I had the Mala rice noodles and the fried gyoza, both were great. There was a generous amount of beef brisket. The broth was light and just the right amount of spice and numbness. The noodles themselves were soft and comforting. The gyoza was perfectly fried and the filling was delicious.

Great ambiance and service. Second time here since they've opened and glad to have found this Astoria local spot. I've had the ramen each time and it doesn't disappoint.

Soup dumplings. Tastes good, but many arrived broken.
    Billy W.

Went for the soft opening this past weekend. The veggie dumplings were great, but their pork soup dumplings were a little disappointing. The flavor was good, but the dumpling skin/wrapper was a little doughy and half of them arrived broken, which took away from the enjoyment. I am curious to try their other items and will try their soup dumplings again sometime in the future. 3.5 stars for now, but giving the benefit of the doubt since they just opened and I want them to do well!

Yesterday, along with a bunch of others, I braved the smog (blame Canada) to go to this Algerian…read moreseafood place. It was pretty quiet inside, outside of the TV playing somewhat loud highlights from the World Cup on loop (why,) with the servers and staff being helpful and friendly. In comparison to the other pick-your-own seafood spots like AbuQir or Hamido, the spices are a tad lighter here, being almost closer to Astoria Seafood, minus the olive oil. I didn't mind, though, as the fish was all fresh and perfectly prepared. To drink, our table stuck with water, though there are a few mocktails and some sodas, including some Algerian ones. They put down some simple bread with a bit of garlic and herbs, which was refilled. For non-seafood dishes, we had a few. The first was the $8 Hmiss, or Hammis, a dip made with roasted pepper, tomato, and garlic sautéed in olive oil. The warm dish was earthy and garlicky, and went perfectly with the bread, with the flavor reminding me of a warmer version of some Turkish eggplant dips. There was also the Peasant Salad for $12, with cucumber, tomato, red onion, and Kalamata olives topped with feta, oregano, and dill. If you're familiar at all with Horiatiki/Village salad, it's basically the same thing, though with crumbled feta instead of a block, and it was refreshing and tasty. Finally, we eventually got an $8 side order of Basil Garlic Mashed Potatoes, which were decent. The first seafood to arrive at the table was the $16.99 Algerian Sardines, which consisted of sardines from Morocco with a spice mixture. The man in front recommended them fried, and the portion was nice, and the flavor was excellent. The fish was fried perfectly, with the bones fried enough that the entirety of it could be eaten. This was delicious, and one of the highlights of the meal. As we loved these sardines, we eventually got a small order of the other option, the "Marinated Sardines" from Spain. These were a bit more expensive by weight, being $10.56 for 0.48 pounds, but by comparison, these were much flatter and larger. The half pound consisted of three large pieces, which were broken down and divided among the group. While I slightly preferred the spices from the Algerian version, I liked the texture of these more, as they were more meaty. I don't think you can go wrong with either, as both were excellent. There was also one pound of Mussels for $17.99, which was available in one of two cooking preparations, Moules Marinière or a version with tomato sauce, herbs, and feta. I went with the latter, and they were excellent, with all of the mussels being open. The feta added a unique, slightly salty touch, with the broth being delicious. They had brought us out some extra bread, and we made good use of it. If I were here alone, I might have this along with some sardines and leave very happy. We also got two whole fish, which were both ordered grilled and butterflied. First was the Dorado, or Orata, for $29.24 for 1.54 pounds. As is typical for this fish, it was delicate and light, but had plenty of flavor. The other was the American Red Snapper, which was a bit more expensive at $37.90 for 1.58 pounds. By comparison, this fish was a lot thicker and therefore, a bit more flavorful. We enjoyed both, with a slight preference going towards the cheaper fish for most outside of me and one other. Another highlight was the Scallops for $37.23 for 0.98 pounds, which came out to 14 large pieces. As recommended, we got these sautéed, with the scallops coming in a delicious garlicky juice on the bottom with plenty of other herbs. The scallops were tender while staying plump, though I slightly preferred the more caramelized tops at AbuQir, with these having a more uniform texture. The rest of the people liked what I couldn't eat, the $24.99 Octopus for around half a pound. The octopus came out pre-cut, which made splitting it very easy. I can't comment much on the flavor or saltiness as some other reviewers brought up, or else I'd be in the hospital right now post-anaphylaxis, but people liked it a lot. If you don't want to bother with the lines or crowds at the other fish spots, I would highly recommend going here. The fish is fresh, perfectly prepared, and seasoned just enough to highlight the natural flavors. I would go back.

They do reservations but there were plenty of tables available on a Saturday afternoon. The service was ok; they could have been more attentive in refilling the water. The chairs were a little rickety and the bathroom door would not lock. Food was pretty good though. Complimentary bread is provided with free refills. The eggplant dip was good and garlicky. The fried calamari had a light breading and was delicious with the two dips (no marinara though). I wasn't fond of the grilled shrimp as the char made it slightly bitter. Sauteed might have been a better choice. The grilled branzino was light, delicious and slightly garlicky. The sauteed scallops were delicious and were my favorite. It was cooked perfectly tender with a delicious sauce. The rice was nicely flavored and a good side dish for the meal. I preferred this to Hamido's except for the grilled shrimp and bread. The seasoning is lighter than Hamido's (which can be overly salty) but I think it compliments the seafood better.

The restaurant has about 20 seats (tables for 2 or 4) & more set up on the sidewalk. I got: $30.00 1/2lb Scallops (8 pieces) $18.54 1/2lb Tiger Shrimp (grilled, 8 pieces) $6.99 Side of Beets $6.99 Side of Babaganoush $2.99 1 medium 20fl oz. Poland Spring Water I was 1 of 2 early diners at the restaurant & everything came out pretty fast. The small cut up beets were delicious! There were big chunks of garlic marinated with it. Not a huge fan of Babaganoush, but wanted to try this there and it was very creamy & good too (no real strong flavor, a healthy drizzle of olive oil on top). IDK if the sides have been this size pre-NYTimes, but they are extremely small (6" diameter plate) for $6.99. The bread that came with it was either overcooked - or is this the typical style? It was EXTREMELY leathery & almost dark tan pita-cracker like. I ate it with the meal but got extremely tired of chewing. Not sure if you can ask her refills of bread. A google search for "Egyptian bread" shows some decent puffy pita. There was a case with drinks: soda, mango juice, mediterranean fruit juice, maybe beer? The seafood was VERY fresh. Scallops large, very Lightly seasoned with a reddish seasoning. Was just slightly underdone for me but still good. The Tiger Shrimp was Excellent & cooked perfectly. It comes sitting on top of a pool of oil and seasonings/parsley, but the flavor wasn't strong enough for me to make out. I'm not sure what Egyptian seasoning for seafood is or should taste like; it wasn't very noticeable in the items that I ordered. Seems like the freshness of all the dishes were the focus. Staff is nice & attentive. The owner was at the table next to me putting in weekend orders. Chatted with him about a new café on the block. A few solo diners come in casually & seemed familiar with the place. Glad I tried it, but probably wouldn't go back because of the price point.

It's a little overwhelming because there is definitely a lot of seafood to choose from. The fish selection looks fresh but they do have some previously frozen seafood like large prawns and lobster tails. They have the names of everything and the price per pound posted which can be a little intimidating because it's a bit expensive. We ordered a grilled branzino and asked for the large tiger shrimp. The staff behind the counter said it would be the ones without the head but when long at the sign, it said head on tiger shrimp so I was a little confused but we just went with it because we assumed the staff knew what they were talking about. We did also get the head-on large prawns. We asked for everything to be grilled and confirmed that they don't use butter or cheese or cream on anything and then we went upstairs to get a table. Upstairs by the window is nice because you can people watch on a good day. We asked the staff member if there were any butter or cream or cheese in the mezza or rice and she said no, so we proceeded to order those and also asked about the soup of the day. She told us it was a shrimp and corn soup and that sounded good so we ordered that as well. The mezza came and the babaganoush and moussaka were good. The lemon potatos were fine but other places have made it better. The tahini was tahini and nothing special. The soup came and we took a sip and it tasted like cream so we were confused because the staff member didn't mention cream when she was taking about it. We asked about it when another staff member came by to drop off the rice. The original staff member who helped us came back over and we asked her if there was cream in the soup. She told us that yes because it's a chowder and the chowder has dairy and told us that we ordered the soup. I'm not denying that we ordered it. My issue is that we specifically asked about avoiding dairy in other food menu items and she didn't even stop to mention that hey the soup of the day that you want is a shrimp and corn chowder and has dairy. She took it back but I felt like we were inconveniencing her because of her tone. The mains arrived shortly after. The head-on prawns came and then the branzino. The large head-on prawns were overcooked and a little rubbery. The branzino was a touch too lemony but that was probably my fault for squeezing lemon over it. The fish was firm and smooth. There wasn't a lot of flavor on either dish. By this time, our table is pretty full and one of the staff members came by with the tiger shrimp and he more or less just stared at the full table and then plopped the plate down right next to my husband's phone. We barely even had time to move plates around to clean up space for him, but I feel like they should have definitely looked a little harder because one of our plates was just full of bones and shells and could have been taken away which would have made room for the shrimp. They were also over cooked and rubbery. Throughout our meal, no one came to check on us once. At the end of the meal, I used my own hand sanitizing wipes and was a little puzzled that they don't give any to customers. We got the bill and were a little peeved that they charged us $3 to butterfly the branzino. We weren't told about that and we didn't particularly ask for them to butterfly it. There's individual hand wipes by the stairs and it's odd that staff don't bring them to you once you're ready to pay. Are customers expected to walk around with dirty hands to go grab the wipe by the stairs? It's definitely a one time experience and overall, I wouldn't recommend it for the poor service and seafood being overcooked and underwhelming.

I tried my friend's green beans which were not bad, but could use more flavor. He got something that he's unsure of, seasoned beef perhaps, and it was decidedly not good. I wish I knew what it was so I know not to get it....

The atmosphere is effortlessly comfortable -- the kind of place where you just know everything coming out of the kitchen will be fresh. And it was. We started with an assortment of traditional spreads: taramosalata, tzatziki, tyrokafteri, skordalia, and melitzanosalata, all served with warm, pillowy pita. Each one was vibrant and flavorful -- perfect for sharing (or not). Then came the feast: marinated and grilled squid, swordfish steak, red snapper, lamb chops, crispy potatoes, and more sides than we could reasonably justify ordering... but absolutely did anyway. Our waiter thoughtfully asked if we had any allergies. By the end of the meal -- slightly comatose, blissfully full, and having completely lost track of time -- we realized the only thing we might be allergic to is work. Bahari isn't just lunch -- it's an escape.

The whole vibe felt warm and made it a really nice family dinner. My grandma and mom both seemed happy and enjoyed everything, which honestly mattered most. We ordered two Greek salads (definitely could've gotten away with just one -- they're huge and very shareable). We also had the Mediterranean spreads: tzatziki, eggplant, and a spicy spread. Everything was solid and great for sharing. We also got grilled octopus as an appetizer -- super tender and really well done. For my main, I had the grilled deboned red snapper -- absolutely delicious. It came with a creamy lemon sauce on the side that you can pour over the fish, plus oregano fries and grilled vegetables. The veggies were amazing, especially the grilled onions that just melted in your mouth. We also ordered takeout: kefte kebab with fries, which was maybe smaller portion but it was good flavor. For dessert we had a baklava float (I think that was the name) with coffees to finish. Very happy with the whole meal overall. Drinks at the bar beforehand were also a highlight -- sangria and a gin, lavender, elderflower, cucumber cocktail that my grandma actually loved.

I'm so glad we did. It was wonderful. Some of the best greek food i've ever had. The service was lovely. Thank you to Daniel. My friends and I ordered a bunch of stuff on the menu and it was absolutely wonderful. There is also very delicious complementary dessert. It is a small restaurant so it's very tight. Everyone is kind of crushed together. The food is a bit on the expensive side but absolutely worth it. I can't wait to come back one day. Amazing experience with wonderful food and service!

If we wanted to get a table in the main dining room, the wait was estimated to be over 2 hours (we went around 8pm), so I highly recommend making a reservation if you plan to go. The staff were very quick with service and very friendly. We were offered toasty bread with some lemon and an olive spread while we waited for our food (which also came out super quick!). We ordered the octopus and lamb chops. The octopus was incredibly tender, the meat was very soft - I personally would've preferred a little more bite to it, but it still tasted good. The lamb chops were flavorful. The medium here is on par with medium rare at most other places, and one of our pieces was borderline rare. At the end of the meal we were also offered complementary desert, which was a pleasant surprise. We enjoyed our meal overall, but just know that it's a little on the pricey. The octopus and lamb chops came out to $80~ pre-tax and tip. Would recommend if you're a fan of seafood!
