Honestly this place is amazing. The ambiance left me speechless it's absolutely beautiful! It's very intimate, perfect for dates. They start of off with fried corn kernels which i love so much i could eat a whole bowl of them. For app i started off with the yuca ball and the fried pork the yuca balls where perfectly crispy and had a amazing cheese pull. The fried pork was flavorful and crispy and when eaten with the sweet potatoes it had a very flavorful contrast that i really enjoyed. The rice was amazing Full of flavor. The only thing that left me disappointed was my meal the octopus, don't get me wrong the octopus was perfectly tender but the flavor was just not there for me just bland, the chimichurri sauce gave it a hint of flavor but not enough. the octopus also didn't have any kind of crispy or smoke flavor which i was looking for because it was grilled. Also the potatoes where served to me cold the waiter fixed the problem without an issue and when i received the potatoes they where pretty basic the sauce that comes with it is very good but i wouldn't recommend this dish i wish i would have picked something else. As someone that had been to Peru i can definitely say they brong in the Peruvian flavor with the other dishes i would like to come back and try other items. read more

Just got home from an early dinner here and wow! Ambiance and overall vibes are impeccable. A lot of thought was put into the decor, lighting, staff appearance, etc. We ordered the edamame, tigers milk ceviche, uchu sushi roll and the hotate (scallop nigiri). It was insanely good. The flavors of every dish were an experience. I actually wanted to take my time eating because there were so many different flavors going on. The ingredients all tasted insanely fresh as well. You have one server but everyone seems to work together as a team to tend to your needs. The manager (a tall blondish man whose name I did not get) was also incredibly kind. You can tell that management is great because of how smoothly everything flows and how pleasant the staff is. Cannot wait to come back to try more dishes!!! read more

Me and my wife went here for our 1 year anniversary. Here are my overall review on service, food and vibes. Service 9/10 - service was great. Our server was always there but not hovering over us which was nice. Food 7.9/10 Yuca balls - amazing but wish we had a bit more sauce Chicharron - perfectly cooked and crispy Tostones - we actually ordered these because I'm a fan of something crispy when I eat ceviche. Yunta ceviche - It was refreshing and was overall very good quality. Wish it had a bit more catch of day within the dish Acevichado Maki - This was a pretty good roll. The only thing I would change to this dish would be putting the sauce on the side. It was a bit too much sauce that already went on it. Made the roll a bit too moist and saucy. Sorry for using the M word. Lomo Saltado - the meat was cooked perfectly. A side of sea salt would have made this a 10/10. Cocktails I got the Mancora Margarita. I really enjoyed it and it was very refreshing. Perfect amount of sweet that paired well with the black mint. 7.9 is very high for me so I don't want people thinking the food wasn't amazing. My wife said 10/10! Food is very culturally important to me so I'm a bit more critical. Vibes 8.5/10 I like the music a lot. It was a bit loud for a nice dinner vibe because I almost wanted to start dancing. With the overall space they have I think they did a good job arranging the tables. I'm going to give Yunta 5 stars because it won't let me do 4.5 stars. Definitely worth a try. read more

We booked yunta about a month out after hearing all the amazing reviews. We started our dinner off with some drinks, and as someone who doesn't drink alcohol I love that they had a mock tail section. As for food we got the yunta balls, yunta Ceviche, and the purivian fried rice. All of it was amazing but out of everything I would recommend the ceviche. It was so fresh and flavorful. On the down side I was excited to try a dish that they have on their online menu, but when we got to the restaurant they no longer had jt. For such a popular and well run restaurant you would think they would have everything align. Overall really good food and great atmosphere. read more

The atmosphere, the service, the food...top tier We went in around lunchtime on a Saturday not knowing we needed a reservation. The hostess was very nice and accommodating. She seated us at a reserved table but reservations for it was an hour out. That was plenty of time for us to enjoy the delicious food and classy atmosphere. Our waiter clearly explained the most popular dishes on the menu so we weren't clueless as to what we ordered. If you're looking for tasty unique food please visit this restaurant. You won't regret it! read more

Trendy restaurant with modern and aesthetically pleasing decor. I love the fact that they're a fusion restaurant with a mix of Peruvian and Japanese influence. They have plenty of options for non-drinkers which is a plus for me. They have a great selection of mocktails and juices. The only draw back would be the fact that you need to reserve well in advance for prime time. When we arrived for our reservation I wasn't too pleased that we were placed in a corner and crammed table. In their defense I should have spoken up but since I was in a cheerful mood I decided against it. But overall, pretty solid place with great attention to detail and attentive service. read more

I had such a great experience here. It was one of the more elevated restaurants I've been to in Charlotte, I enjoyed the ambiance and food and had an overall great time. The plating and cocktails were fantastic, and the food has a beautiful blend of flavors. Unfortunately, after leaving the restaurant, within 2 hours I became extremely sick. I was shaking, heaving, etc. and quickly realized I had food poisoning. I'm very familiar with raw food so It was something vastly out of character. After alerting the restaurant of this, they said, "they take very good care of their food". The manager/host didn't offer to refund me, or comp my next visit. I was extremely disappointed and expected better from a restaurant of this caliber. For those reason, I am leaving a 2 star review, and likely will avoid come back in the future. read more

We had the absolute best time at Yunta. I've only ever heard great things and this place did not disappoint! We didn't have a reservation (which I highly recommend making), but the staff was still super friendly to us and got us seated as quick as possible. The service was incredible from when we walked in the door to when we left. We had the hamachi tiradito, tuna ceviche, and the octopus. It was all incredible! The drinks were delicious as well. Yunta was my first Peruvian dining experience, and I fell in love! The combination of Japanese and Peruvian flavors seemed effortless. We were seated inside next to the DJ booth, which made it feel like we were in a mystical underground restaurant. We started off with pisco sours (first time trying, amazing!) and then just ordered many small plates for a tapas style dinner. My favorite dish was the yuca balls! Overall: not only the most underrated restaurant in town, but likely the overall best. From the experience to the food, you can't go wrong. One minute you're walking past Lowe's as cars fly by on south Blvd, the next you're in Yunta wondering if life really is a simulation. A fabulous fusion restaurant that blends Peruvian and Asian influences to produce flavors so amazing you'll think they were made to be paired this way. Bring friends for the shareable small dishes, and dive into a culinary expedition you won't soon forget. We started with delicious plates of Chicharrón (a crispy pork belly appetizer) and Yucca Balls, Andean cheese balls in a succulent Carretillero sauce. Paired with a spicy Peruvian Pineapple or Chicharita cocktail, you'll probably think the meal couldn't get any better -- but you'd be wrong. For our entrees, our table shared the AMAZING Arroz con Mariscos (a Peruvian Seafood Risotto), along with a delicious dish of Arroz Chaufa (a Peruvian Fried Rice), and Tallarin Saltado (a Peruvian Lo Mein). We also dove into a delicious pair of Maki Rolls: the Acevichado and the Parmesano, all paired with a delicious bottle of Spanish Red from their perfectly curated (and surprisingly affordable) wine list. I can't say enough about Yunta -- the service was first-rate, the food and cocktails outstanding, and the atmosphere energetic without being overwhelming. Great first visit - tried a sushi roll, tuna nigiri, fried rice, shrimp croquettes, and two cocktails. Absolutely worth trying a variety of items. Cocktails were creative and delicious. The sushi came with Peruvian Amarillo sauce and the mahi (catch of the day) was torched at our table. The nigiri was my favorite and I can't wait to order it again! Very well decorated interior and great atmosphere for a dinner date. Service was great - especially the gentleman who worked extremely hard to keep our water glasses full. This was the best meal I have ever had in my life. Im a bit late writing the review but it's still fresh as ever in my memory. The food was flavorful and unique. The staff were wonderful and the atmosphere was lovely. When I first arrived with my family we were greeted immediately, drinks and food always came out fast. The food was unlike anything I have ever had. The ceviche was an explosion of flavor and delight. If you can only eat at one restaurant in charlotte, I recommend coming here. read more

People don't call it the best new restaurant in Charlotte for nothing! Everything we had was delicious, the ambience was amazing and the staff was so friendly! All of the food was incredible. My favorites were the ceviche, paradiso limo Tiradito and the Arroz con Mariscos. The yuca balls were yummy but probably wouldn't get again just to save room for all of the other food! The gratin was highly recommended on Yelp but it was a bit salty for me and didn't seem to fit with the rest of our courses. The Arroz con Mariscos is deliciously seasoned with all of the warm spices you want in a paella. The seafood was all cooked perfectly within the dish. All of the raw fish was incredible. I think ideally you'd come here with a group of 4-6 and share 6-8 dishes! There were just two of us and it was a ton of food and there was more we wanted to try. The cocktails were great! I love that they heavily feature Pisco because it feels so unique to Yunta! The Pisco & Smoke was our favorite! The desert was also amazing - I love that they bring options over to the table to see! read more

I enjoyed a lovely meal at Yunta our wait person was very polite and attentive. The food came out in a timely manner and was well worth the wait. The Peruvian menu options were quite flavorful and tangy. The sushi offerings were good but not as good as the Peruvian items. Cocktails were lovely albeit not very strong but they were tasty. Per our wait person the restaurant gets louder after 7 PM on the weekends as they have a DJ so if you are looking for an intimate setting I suggest doing it earlier in the night or during the weekdays. That all said, this place is well worth fighting through reservations to get a table. read more

Went over the weekend perfect for date night. Food was tasty and different from most of what's around in charlotte. Glad to step out of my comfort foods for once. Nice to see your food being prepared in front of you if you're seated at the bar top. Server was informative about menu choices. Was pretty busy when we arrived but not so bad of a wait for the food to come out. Not sure if they're having ac issues currently but it was miserably muggy inside. read more

Great vibe, great food and great service. One of the best restaurants to come on the Charlotte scene in quite some time. Nikkei is a particular area of Peruvian food derived from Japanese immigration into that country as much as a century ago. The primary common element here is seafood, in the form of sushi and in the form of ceviche. Having been to a few ceviche/nikkei places in the Miami area, I found this to be very authentic and quite reasonably priced. There is a three ceviche sample for $36 which provides substantial food in each sample. One is a mixed seafood, the other is tuna and the other is yellowtail. All in different sauces which you will use the cool looking black metal spoon with which to taste every drop. There is a cauliflower tempura at only $7 which is perfectly cooked. We ordered it with a hotter sauce that was spicy and complex, yet forgiving. There is a sushi roll topped with chimichurri. So savory. Service is outstanding. We had a couple of vibrant young men who took the time to explain every dish. Don't miss dessert. The only miss the whole night was the coffee which I expected to be rich and dark but it looked like something run through the filter a couple of times. That said, this place is a five star all day long. Other notable dishes: croquettes, ciccahron, crabmeat in a delectable potato puree. Be sure to get dessert- so good and refreshing. The specialty drinks looked amazing. read more

A lot of the food in charlotte is pretty basic or disappointing. This place is not! Almost everything we've ever ordered is really good. It's some of the most flavorful civeche I've had. Only thing I did not like was the risotto we tried last time. The service has been great everytime as well. They do book up, especially for Friday and Saturday evenings so make plans ahead of time. read more

There aren't many restaurants in Charlotte that I've immediately said "we gotta come back here." This, however, is one of them. We came in early on a Friday without a reservation (you should make one, for sure), hoping to get seated. We got lucky. They had a table way in the back, but we opted for the bar. Wife had a Pisco Sour and a Pisco punch of some sort. I had a Peruvian lager. All were good. We ordered the yucca balls - nice texture with a great dipping sauce. We shared the Beef Nigiri and Parrillero Maki based on the bartender's recommendation. Both were exceptional. I would have eaten 50 Beef Nigiris if my budget allowed for it. Incredible staff. We will definitely return. read more

Absolutely delicious. Service was excellent. Best service I've experienced in years. Decor is cool and there was a DJ (on Saturday). Every item was flavored perfectly. Lots of plant based options. I had Yucca balls and tostones to start. The dipping sauces are gold. My friend had the croquettes and ramen soup, which she devoured. The mushroom ceviche was very unique and so good. We stepped into Yunta, a Japanese-Peruvian fusion restaurant, unsure of what awaited us. The lively bar caught our eye immediately, with the open kitchen behind it radiating energy and promise. Since Yunta specializes in pisco, we began with their signature cocktails. The Pisco & Shiso and Pisco Punch were both expertly balanced and refreshingly bright, setting a high bar for the meal to come. For our appetizer, we ordered the Ceviche Trio: Tuna Nikkei, Tiger's Milk, and Yunta Ceviche. Our waiter recommended using a spoon to savor the full depth of the broths; this advice proved spot-on. The Tuna Nikkei was the standout, combining silky fresh tuna with a salty, acidic broth. The Yunta Ceviche followed closely, its subtle sweetness and gentle heat playing beautifully against the catch of the day and tender octopus. A most bizarre experience for my daughter and I, celebrating a birthday. The food was fresh and phenomenal; the servers were knowledgeable and experienced. It wasn't until later we were made uncomfortable when the bus employee began removing the items from the table, and our main server didn't return with a dessert menu despite the fact when we arrived we were asked if there was a celebration, and they wrote "birthday " on the slip I thought they might have given to the server. Added to that, a lady who appeared to be a flow manager appeared at our table a gave us a "gentle" reminder that other diners were waiting! Came into YUNTA earlier this week with my wife for dinner and sat at the bar as the restaurant was busy and we had not made a reservation. From the food, to the drinks, to the service.. everything was amazing. Val took care of us and had us try some awesome drinks. My Peruvian friend told me about this place and I'm glad I took his advice. We ordered the classic ceviche and the tigre de leche - Best decision we made. It was very delicious and fresh, it was so good that we actually ordered another round of the classic ceviche. Service was great too and we didn't have to wait much to get a table. I've actually picked up sushi to-go from here at night in the past, so I already knew the food was reliable, but sitting down during the day let me appreciate how nice the space actually is. At night it has that dim, moody lighting that makes it a great date-night pick, but brunch was relaxed, bright, and didn't feel rushed at all. Definitely a spot I'd come back to whether it's for casual weekend brunch or drinks and sushi on a night out.

When we arrived, there was a nice card signed by all the staff. The server was friendly and upbeat. We placed our appetizer orders and upon taking our first bite of the ahi tuna, which is not tiny and you get a mouthful, the server asked us to order entrees. Timing was really awkward, irritating, and just uncomfortable. We were trying to get out our order while our mouths were stuffed from the app. So we didn't enjoy the app and were forced to put in our entree at that moment in time. He couldn't have waited say, "an extra 15-20 secs?" North Carolina Dumplings were one of the best apps I've ever had and I'll be thinking of that one for a long time. When we got the entrees, they started clearing them one at a time, even though some of us were still eating. Worse than that, I was still eating my entrée and they were pushing the desert menus on us. I literally had to say, "I would like to focus on my entree before thinking about a dessert." I'm not sure I've ever had any high-end restaurant do this. It was just so obnoxious and you could feel they were just looking to do super quick turns. I've never been that rushed and this place isn't inexpensive. The Peach Palmer was very good. He brought my father a decaf cappuccino 3/4 of the way through the dessert and then proceeded to bring the bill moments later. Clearly, the chefs are extremely talented and the servers enjoy working here, but feeling so rushed is why I won''t ever come back again. The timing throughout felt extremely off and took away from what otherwise should've been a top notch meal and dining experience. Such a shame, and one that could've easily been avoided by potentially giving us a total of 10-15 extra minutes of time to move through our meal. Instead, it seemed like the goal was to get us in and out and rush everything. Not exactly the memory you want to have on any occasion, let alone an anniversary one at over $100/person.
