I came to Yuri's to get a crystal for my grandfather's Elgin pocket watch. (it had been missing one for years.) At first everything was fine--Yuri was fast and courteous (if quite expensive), and installed the crystal and sent me on my way. Upon examining the watch the next day, I found that the new crystal had cracked while the glue holding it in place dried. I took it back to Yuri, who (to his credit) replaced it free of charge, but instead of using another period-and-piece appropriate glass crystal, he replaced it with a huge, bulging, PLASTIC fake crystal, and a scratched one at that! He's probably fine if you need the battery in your Seiko changed, but if you have a watch that is old, valuable, or complex, go to a professional. read more

I've brought two watches to Yuri for repair as of this writing. Both were repaired well and are working fine: 1 - Komandirskie (Soviet manual-wind watch from the 80's) This wasn't running unless I advanced the regulator way too much. I brought it in, and he had it fully disassembled, cleaned, oiled, and reassembled in a couple of hours. Perfect amount of time to run out for a nice lunch. Cost was about $100, which he advised me might not be worth it versus the cost of the watch itself. I wanted the repair anyway, and he obliged. I was also able to choose a new band which was far superior to the original rubber one. Added a little cost, but to have such one-stop shopping is great. 2 - Seiko 7A28-7029 A much more complicated watch, which my parents were told couldn't be fixed (they went to a cheap mall watch repair place). I took it to Yuri, and it ended up needing the same disassemble/clean/oil job as the Komandirskie. Again I was warned about the cost of the repair versus the value of the watch. This being an heirloom (grandfather's watch I was repairing for my Dad for Father's Day) I went ahead with the repair. It was dropped off Saturday and ready Monday. All functions now work and it will make my Dad very happy. Yuri warrantees his work for one year. And it's good to know that he'll work on anything from cheap to high-end. read more

Worse experience. I went to get my Tag bands adjusted and he literally looked me with disgust as he was on the phone. I was flabbergasted, but thought maybe he was on an important phone call. So I waited. Then he took out a couple of links so that the watch fits better, but I thought it was a bit too loose. He said it looked fine but took another link off. Now it was too tight and when I told him so, he said in an annoying voice," you just said it was too loose?" Anyways, my bands still need adjustments, and it looks like I'll need to check out another watch store who is meticulous and treats customers with some form of dignity. I don't know about other people, but I did not have a pleasant experience here. I will never go back to this place, where it seems I have to beg someone to adjust my watch. read more

I came to Yuri with a complex watch problem. The keyless works needed to be replaced and he did it extremely quickly. I didn't even have to leave! I watched him work on my watch for about 20 minutes and presto! Good as new. He charged be $80 for the repair, which I though was fair considering it was a complex fix and he had to disassemble the watch. He even took the watch apart again after I noticed some dust and thoroughly cleaned it. Even though he is not much of a talker, he is extremely efficient. The cherry on top was that while I waited for my watch, I was able to see some very nice pieces Yuri had on display at his store like Omegas and Rolex. I will definitely be back if I ever have watch problems. read more

I just had my old Bulova in for a new battery, Yuri also noticed that the second hand had fallen off of it's axle/post (he was correct) and that the winding crown was loose and falling off. Yuri not only replaced the battery, but re-attached the second hand and replaced the crown that was coming off it's stem as well. He did all of this for $40.00 and I had my favorite old watch back in a couple of days. Yuri is a master of his craft. He would not have lasted as long as he has on the 2nd block of Newbury Street if he was not. I trust him. read more

I would like to mantion here one thing ..I know it's a store for high end watches and I came there considering purchasing my first watch after closing a deal and wanted to get some information, Mr Yuri the sales rep. was supposed to help but the only thing I got from him was disrespectful attitude probably because I wasn't dressed good enough or that my English is not perfect and I know it was only a Rolex for around 6 k but I was expected to get at least a nice service especially after I heard good things about the store ... now im enjoying my new watch from Tourneau after getting there a good service and knowledge about the watch and for the future as well. read more

After having read all the rave reviews for Yuri's Watches, I was excited to be able to have the batteries replaced in two of my watches so close to my house. Let's just say that my experience was radically different than all those who have previously posted. Upon entering the store, I was pleasantly greeted by the gentleman who owns the jewelry store. I inquired about replacing watch batteries and he directed me to Yuri who said not one word to me, just held out his hand for the watches. He went to his work station again with nary a word, no price estimate, time estimate, whether I should wait or come back, or even whether it could be done. After unsuccessfully trying to engage in polite conversation including mentioning the wonderful reviews here on yelp, I waited in awkward silence for 15 minutes. When the replacement was complete, the only bit of conversation was, "thirty dollars." Again, having read the reviews I assumed it would be $10 per watch not $15, but not a big deal, an explanation would have been nice (batteries were more expensive, it was more difficult,etc). Again, I tried to engage in conversation while my credit card was being run through, inquiring about possibly restoring a set of Omega watches from the 60's. Again, just a gruff one word answer. For this "level" of customer service, I would be better off at a kiosk at the mall. I will NOT be bringing in my Omegas for servicing nor will my husband be bringing in his Rolex, Tourneau, or any of his other watches to Yuri. Oh and to top it all off, now the chime function in one of my watches does not work, so I will have to bring it to another watch shop. Thanks for NOTHING. read more

Quick and easy! Got my watch battery replaced in about 2 minutes. Cost $15 flat. Very efficient. Owner was not friendly (very gruff) and it seemed like I was bothering him with my service, but I'd probably go back since I don't have any better place to go. read more

I went in to get a repair made on my boss' watch - tighten the clasp - and it took ten seconds. I wish it had taken a bit longer so I could have looked around the little store, because there was some really cute stuff in the cases. I like small, private shops, you usually get the best service and value there. Went to Yuri a couple of times before for battery changes, priced at $15-20 per job. Never a friendly attitude on him, but one wouldn't care if you only want to get a quick service done and be on your way. Just recently I needed to have the leather band replaced on a mid-market Italian watch. Went to Yuri, the usual look on his face as in "what do you want?"; I explained what I needed. "$30 dollars........ no $20 dollars....", 5 seconds later, "25 dollars...". Interesting how the price got adjusted instantaneously - a very unusual practice but I agree and he gets to work. He has problems finding the right tools and visibly struggles. Few minutes later he presents the watch, job unfinished; he broke the screw and pin securing the band to the case when wrestling with it. Naturally he doesn't openly say that (!) but states in a passive statement "The screw is broken", and starts complaining about the quality of parts/watch - great way to talk to a client, btw (I'll mention the watch was close to $700 at retail price). No apology for messing up the job and breaking the pin pieces, no explanation of why it happened or how he intended to remedy it. I took the watch back, sent it to the manufacturer who sold me the new band and got it replaced at no cost. I will not be going back to Yuri. His practice and demeanor are unwelcoming and unprofessional. Given this experience I would not trust him with anything more than a battery change. Also, to echo other reviewers - good luck communicating in muffled half sentences. read more

But VERY unfriendly... borderline rude. All in all, good what I needed quickly and at a good price, but definitely not a pleasant interaction with Yuri! read more

If you want to replace battery or fix whatever simple problem, I do not care. But if you want to more sever problem and are concerning the cost, I can't recommend here. I went there to repair my watch which had pulled-out stem. I already knew my stem was not broken and just pulled out. When I went there he just tried to open my watch without asking. When I asked the price he said the stem is broken and it is approximately over $200. I already quoted it as $45 in the other store. So I did not want to fix it there try to get back. That moment, I so surprised because he just shoved the stem to watch so carelessly. Even it was not on correct position. If the stem is broken, the price will be almost over $200. I do not know whether he tried or know. But I was little bit scared. Finally, I went to the other shop and repair it only $45 and now it is working great. I am not sure. But it was definitely over priced and not reliable in my case. read more

After reading the Yelp reviews we decided to try Yuri's. We had the BEST experience. We went in with two watches that needed new batteries and walked out 5 minutes later with our watches fixed. I am delighted. I took a stopped 50-year-old Rolex to him--a watch which two others had told me was "VERY hard" to find parts for and then declined even to try. He stopped what he was doing, took the back off, stared at it, and said, "new mainspring and a bit of cleaning--I'll need a week." I got it back in less than a week, and it works perfectly. Needless to say, this guy gets the job done. He is the true definition of professionalism. I went in to get one of my expensive watches fixed. He was able to locate the problem immediately and had it fixed in a short period of time. This guy is GREAT! Needed replacement battery for 5 different watches (most jewelry stores won't replace batteries any more.). He did all 5 as I waited in maybe 10 to 15 minutes, tops. I didn't expect this, I thought I'd drop them off and return in a few days. Yuri couldn't have been nicer - said "I'll do them for you now - why come back when it's so cold outside" . Based on all of the reviews, I took my watch to Yuri to get the band adjusted. I walked into the store and they immediately directed me to Yuri. He was friendly and asked me what I needed, figured out how many links needed to be removed, and told me it would be $10 and two minutes. He was true to his word and I was pleased with the result! The next day, I discovered that the way the clasp was so huge coupled with the size of my wrist made part of the watch jut out. I took it back that afternoon and Yuri said "oh i should have seen that" and fixed it in a minute with no additional charge. This was at no fault to him, as I should have noted how the watch fit when I got it back instead of rushing it, but he was so nice and helpful. I absolutely recommend him for any watch needs and will be going back to him in the future. read more

I am very disappointed with the experience at "Yuri's Watches." He was rather rude and unhelpful, said that my gold mechanical watch need a "head" replacement (turns out it does not). Didn't even bothere to turn around and actually listen to me. Boo. read more

I usually never write reviews....but I have too. Despite all the great reviews on Yuri, I had quite the opposite experience. Not only was I treated by this man like an idiot, but I felt like he was judging me and my watch. I felt he didn't even want my business as soon as I walked in. I called him rude to his face, which I rarely do to anyone, and he quickly proceeded to work on my watch and said nothing. I was running late for work so I left it with him. I came back today to a broken watch and no explanation. Just a turn of the head and the words "10 dollars" out of his mouth. I was so over it, I gave hime the cash and I walked out with writing this review in mind. If you read this Yuri, thanks for nothing. The key point here is that I truly felt unwanted by your services and you can shove every watch in your store up your ass. Enjoy the 10 :) read more

First of all, Yuri assured me that he could fix ANY kind of watch (otherwise I would not have trusted him with this delicate task). So, I took my watch in for a repair, and was quoted a price for repair that I had agreed to. When I returned to pick up my watch, Yuri claimed that the watch needed additional repair, and the charge was therefore $60 higher (meanwhile, he hadn't contacted me to let me know this much prior to beginning repair). Reluctantly, I paid the higher price and left with my watch--and a one-year warranty on the repair. My watch stopped working almost immediately. I returned to Yuri, who took the watch back in and said he would take a look. When he called me to let me know the repair was completed, he said that the watch was in need of additional work (it wasn't), and wanted to be paid for this additional work--which, it turned out, was necessary because he broke the winding mechanism. This was an antique piece with tremendous sentimental value. The "job" costed me $100 and the watch still doesn't work, and meanwhile I've had to deal with extremely unpleasant attitude from someone who's damaged a very valuable piece and has acted in an entirely unprofessional manner (i.e., slammed down the receiver when speaking to me). read more
