1: Spent 7 hrs just for color and highlights, owner doesn't respect appointments that were made, she will take a walk in and have you waiting. 2: I informed I didn't want to spend 3-400$ on highlights, she assured me that she was gonna give me a "good price". After spending the whole day she charged me $500, on top of that she damaged my hair by adding super blond streaks on my bangs, till this day they shred like cheese! :-/ Will never go back. read more

There is usually a wait if you don't get there when they open so plan ahead. Would be a five star but the prices do change for the same style and treatments. Went in on 12/26/20, came home for the holidays. I wanted a simple wash deep conditioning. The stylist talk me in to a "Silk press"! She burnt my natural hair. It will not go back to its natural state and it smells burnt every time I wet it. I am so disappointed. I don't know what she put in my hair but I will never go there again. I sent a message on FB messenger being no one will answer or responded. I am so upset. My hair was beautiful until I let her silk press it. Now I have to cut my hair off and start over. If I could give zero stars I would. Natural African-American ladies, stay far away from this place. I had been natural for 2.5 years before I went to this salon. My hair was long, full, and beautiful. After getting my hair done twice by them, I began to find patches of my hair completely broken off. I have never in my life dealt with hair breakage. What is most upsetting is that my hair no longer curls and it looks damaged unless I straighten it. I am convinced they put a perm in my hair without my consent. read more

I got to the salon about 12:20 on a Saturday afternoon. There were plenty of customers, but I was still able to sit down and get helped right away. My stylist was Angie. She was very careful to make sure she was gentle with me and my ratty hair. She also thoroughly explained the different services that I was interested in. I heard the owner (I believe it was her) tell Angie to make sure that I was OK, comfortable, and that I was aware of different prices for different services. I actually came out looking pretty darned cute (I'm too short to be "hot"). I got tons of compliments on my hair and my eyebrows (Angie did both). The hair prices were reasonable for a salon in general but a bit high for the Charlotte Dominican Salon standard (which I gather from my previous experience at another salon and from my Dominican friends yelling at me for paying so much). Perhaps it was because of all the other services offered? I have never seen eyebrows for only $6 anywhere else though, so that is a definite plus for them. Remember to stop by an ATM on the way though. It's cash only here. Anything you want done, you can get it done here; highlights, cuts, perms, relaxers, eyebrows, manicures, pedicures... There were men and women, black people, white people, latin people... it was like a sequel to the Red House commercial. I was just waiting for Angie to tell me she liked pumping rollers into people's heads. The women were definitely more amicable than the men, but everyone (except for one woman) shot me at least one smile. I will definitely go back even if only for the eyebrows. read more

I called before I went and asked them for their prices for natural hair but I was told that I had to come in for her to look at my hair. So I went a little earlier and Yvelisse looked at my straight hair which is down my back and ran her fingers through I'm assuming to touch my roots. She told me it would be 50 bucks just off of that assessment. I was expecting between 40-50 so I agreed to the price and had my hair washed/conditioned, then deep conditioned under a dryer for about 15 mins and then rinsed again. The person who did my hair spoke very limited English (which was expected) so I told her I wanted it blown out no rollers and that's what she did for the next 25 mins. I was in and out in about an hour and a half which is pretty good for my length of hair. I was pleased with my hair and it stayed straight for almost 3 weeks (meaning no water on my hair, minimal exercise and no steaming) . Yvelisse did tell me before I left that instead of using a shower cap in the shower to just wrap a towel around my head . I actually googled this b/c I wasn't sure what she was talking about but who knew I was creating a mini sauna up under my shower cap which is a no no if you want to keep your hair straight. So from now on I will be using a towel instead of shower cap! The salon was very clean which is a plus but I believe they only take cash. The price which some people may have issues with seems comparable to other salons in the area . I love this place. It is definitely geared for ethnic hair but if you are a white girl with naturally curly hair this salon can do wonders for you too. Really, they have something for everyone. They do a great job with color, deep conditioning, haircuts and styling. There is a bit of a language barrier but now they see me and know what to do with my rat's nest aka my hair. They do the BEST blow-out in Charlotte...no joke. I'm not telling you they won't yank and pull but the results are like none other and I have been to a lot of places...high end and hole in the walls... The salon is clean, top of the line brazilian products, nice service. The only reason they get 4 stars is for the pricing...they definitely overcharge. I paid almost half the price at the dominican salons in NY...They don't have enough competition yet so they jacked up their prices but hopefully that changes. I went to the salon five times while on a five week assignment in Charlotte. The salon was super clean and the stylists were extremely knowledgable about all types of hair. They deal with black hair, natural hair and Dominican hair. There is also a nail salon so you can dry your hair as the manicurist does your nails. She uses all OPI colors and my manicure lasted for two weeks. The staff is very friendly and I never had to wait to get someone started on my hair. One lady washes your hair, another may put rollers on your hair and the last will blow dry your hair. They're fast, efficient, experts in what they do and the prices are fair. read more

I have been going to Yvelisse Hair Salon, since I've been in Charlotte. I have to say that this is my favorite salon by far. I get my washes and chemicals by Ana, and Clara does by blowouts. This salon is walk-in only but I never have to wait more than maybe 5 minutes to get in the chair. The decor is nice and warm, and the shop is always clean. I have been there on several occasions when they would provide food ie pizza, donuts, drinks ect and it's all on the house. It's hard to find a salon that you can be in and out of in less than 3 hours but that's always the case here. When I first came here, they told me that they would have my hair growing and healthy, and the lived up to their word. I started out with shoulder length hair and it is now bra strap length. Everyone is polite and professional and they do the best dominican blow out in Charlotte. It is a good driver away from my home and one day I decided to try my luck at another salon closer to my house. BAD IDEA, I will never cheat on them again lol. Ok so my hair looked good BUT... a chunk of my hair broke off in the front near my hairline also I didn't realize until a few weeks later because I didn't know it was "a thing" to mix relaxer in with conditioner but i definitely think they mixed chemicals in my conditioner because 1. My scalp was burning after she washed my hair (I thought at the time it may have been because she was scratching my scalp so hard) & 2. I had a headache afterwards. I didn't put it all together until I read a review from another girl that said they messed up her curl pattern by putting relaxer in their conditioner & I began to research & found that a lot of salons do this. So if you're natural & don't believe in chemicals like me please just be aware. I definitely feel bamboozled. This was my first trip to Yvelisse's Salon and I loved it! I recently moved to Charlotte and was concerned about finding a new hair salon to care for my natural hair. My last hair stylist pressed my hair with the old fashioned hot comb and hot flat iron (not the ceramics, but the ones that actually go on the hotbed). She advised me to try a Dominican shop after I moved, so I did. My mother suggested I try Yvelisse's and I was able to walk right in to have my blow-out done within an hour, but it was on a Tuesday. The salon itself is beautiful and I was greeted and treated kindly from the moment I walked in! I would have given them 5 stars, but I felt the services were a little more costly than what I'm used to. I paid $55 for a wash, condition (I got the $5 one), blow-out and my ends trimmed. Yvelisse actually gave me the conditioning for free, so it would have been $60. However, I will definitely go back because my hair looks and feels wonderful! The inside of the salon was decorated very nicely, and the people who worked there were very nice as well. I have extremely thick hair and it is about shoulder length so I really appreciated the stylist taking her time with my hair. After the stylist finished my hair, I was so in love with the shop. My hair turned out amazing! And I cannot wait to return to the shop. I recommend this shop to anyone who needs their hair done & is looking for a Dominican blowout. I have not had a relaxer for 4 years. I have had the same dominican stylist in Houston for years. I moved to Charlotte and this place was highly recommend. I asked for a roller set and was told because I don't have a relaxer I cant get a roller set. I agreed to try it her way out of desperation. The stylist then pulled my hair drying it with the blow dryer while it was wet and continuously burned me. She had a very unpleasant attitude. I cant spend my money here. I now fly back to Houston for my regular stylist to repair my once beautiful tresses! (And its actually cheaper in Houston). read more

Just before I was going to say something, that's when she called me back. Mary does a great job and seems to be the only one that has etiquette in customer service. I have been going to Dominican salons all over the country for the last 7 years. This was BY FAR the best the that I have ever been to. My hair is natural and it can be challenging. I asked for the owner based on one of the reviews below. She looked at my hair, evaluated it, and did exactly what I wanted other stylist to try and they would not. My hair was fabulous. I have been back once a week since my first visit. The process of going and waiting is one that is found at ALL Dominican salons. They get you into a chair quickly and the service time is also quick. It is a lot of direct heat but they deep condition and the results are worth the price. read more

A little pricey but I feel as if I'm finally getting my hair right on track. I get a relaxer every 2 and 1/2 months and it cost about $60 then you can choose your choice of deep conditioners, I usually get the $15 one. When I come in between getting my hair relaxed its about $40, I might get a wash then pin-curl, sometimes a roller set, whatever I'm feeling at the time. Everyone is nice and accommodating and they get you in and out in a relatively quick time, no wasteful waiting. And they have plenty of girls on hand to get the job done. read more

I have frequented the shop on 2 occasions. My first experience being better than the last. I have natural AA hair and I only go to the salon when its time for a trim. However when going to the salon I also get a blow out and a deep conditioner. Because my hair is natural I know to expect a certain level of discomfort when having my hair straightened but I had one of the most painful experiences in my life at this salon. As a point of reference I have my straightened about 4 times a yr by professionals, so I know what to expect. The 1st time I went it was a slow weekday morning so one of the girls washed, conditioned, and preped my hair for the blow out by combing through what looked like some kind of keratin product with a small toothed comb! I reached in my purse and gave her my handy denman brush to detangle my hair. Then she began to blow out the back of my hair (this was moderately painful.) and then when the owner became available I sat in her chair and she finished the blow out. The owner did a far superior job in straightening my hair quickly and with little to no pain. The owner also flat ironed and trimmed the ends. My hair looks and felt perfect! The second go round it was a little busier so this other lady blew my hair out by focusing most of the heat directly on my scalp (ouch.) I later found out that she was applying oil to my hair as she was flat ironing (which is damaging bc its essentially frying your hair.) She trimmed my hair however it later seemed she only trimmed the frame of my locks. The inside was very uneven and had never been touched by scissors. The only experienced professional seems to be the owner. Granted I haven't let the other women do my hair but my scalp and hair just can't risk that kind of damage. I have called and tried to set up appointments with the owner but they don't take appointments. I have since decided to straighten my own hair (an expensive flat iron is a great investment) and then go to the salon to have the trim. It just won't be at Yvelisse salon. read more
