I found Josette and her Brazilian blowout via a Groupon last December (2011). I'm so glad I did. The quality of the blowout was so good that when she moved to another salon, I had to follow her. She blew my hair BONE STRAIGHT and it lasted a good five months. I could easily last another month here in California weather but being I'm going to ridiculously-hot-and-humid Texas at the end of the month, I wanted to make sure I got it done before my trip so that my hair was silky smooth and easier to manage in the high humidity. I arrived and Joe-Joe, washed and prepped my hair. He was super friendly and easy to talk to, and gave my head a great massage. (In fact, all the people at this salon were very friendly!). Josette then adds the product in, blows it straight and then irons it bone straight. She has the whole process down and you'll be out the door with your shiny, super straight hair within two hours. It's cut my hair dry time down to half in the morning and my hair gets bone straight! If I just want my regular curly hair, I just add a bit of serum, crunch my hair, and I have great, frizz-free curls! The best of both worlds for this naturally curly haired girl! =) Make sure you don't use any sulfate hair products after your Brazilian. She has a tendency to forget to tell people that and the sulfates will tussle up the product that keeps your hair bone straight. Look on the ingredients on the back of your shampoo/conditioner. It's worth tossing out the product if it has sulfates and you're investing in a Brazilian. Most grocery/drug store products have it in there so you're better off buying salon brand or L'Oreal even has a sulfate-free products out in grocery/drug stores. read more

I was in desperate need for a trim, and the salon I was going to was closed for the holidays until the new year. I snagged this groupon and tried to make an appointment on NYE, but I couldn't get a hold of anyone so I left a message. I waited a few days and still hadn't heard back and couldn't make an appointment for a haircut on their website. I decided to call about 5 days later and was told they had called someone else named Denise back, but wasn't me. I let that go, and I was scheduled in for the next Saturday at 10 AM. I did get a call the day before if I could move it to 9 AM. I was a little bummed as I'm not a morning person, but it gave me time to do shopping nearby at Santana Row while it was empty so it all worked out. A very spacious salon with an old school feel of the old wooden vanity sets. I was greeted by the owner and Shalah who was going to do my haircut. I'm usually the easiest person to cut hair on (or so I think) of just wanting the dead ends trimmed, as little as possible. With the new year, I decided to add some layers in the front and Shalah showed me how much of the dead ends (a couple inches) she was going to cut off. I decided to be ballsy and said she could cut more if she wanted, that I trusted her expertise. I got my hair shampooed, very relaxing getting your hair washed by someone else! I started reading magazines and let Shalah do her thing. I realized when your hair's wet, it's hard to tell what's going on. Shalah gave me advice on keeping my hair more damage free and advised me to not straight iron my hair as much as possible. She proved her point by styling my hair with a blowdryer. Once all was finished, I was shocked at how short my hair was! I think she and the owner could tell I was about to have one of those "I'm going to cry" moments, but I knew I was responsible for it. They seemed concerned, which I appreciated, and I quickly left as 75 minutes flew by and I needed to shop before a brunch date! It quickly started to grow on me, it was a refreshing change. My friends and my mom especially loved it. My mom told me to only get my haircut there going forward. I do love my haircut, but it was just a shocker at first. I decided to come to Z beauty Lounge after reading all the raving reviews about Rachell. I had researched and wanted lash extensions for a while, and was quite nervous when I first came in. Rachell was very welcoming and I instantly liked her. She asked how I wanted to look, and I showed her my favorite pair of Ardell strip lashes that I usually wear. She re-created them perfectly, the full-set took about an hour and 45mins. She was so gentle, and always made sure I was comfortable..I think I almost fell asleep, I was so relaxed. I typically go for a fill every 3-4 weeks. The salon is pretty spacious with a large comfy couch. They also have tea, coffee, and water. The bathroom is super cute and always clean. I am writing this review for Josette (formally from metamorphosis salon). I came to Josette as part of her living social ad for a Brazilian blowout - she had just moved to this location a few days prior. While I was getting my blowout, I also opted for a cut & color. I really don't like to write a bad review about anyone, but had to write something considering I had only read gleaming reviews about her. Color: I was never asked what color/shade I wanted - Josette just mixed her own color preference and went with it. I had partial highlights, and she did not alter the direction of the foils around my face, so now when my hair is pulled back (sunglasses, or up style), you can see these horrible looking lines. I have attached a photo to show this. It's really embarrassing and I will have to go elsewhere to get this fixed because it looks ridiculous. I am also not sure what she did with the toner, but the highlights go a different color again before the roots - you can kind of tell this in the photo. Cut: we agreed on 1/2" off the length, but by the time she was finished it was at least 2-3" shorter. I had to get her to fix the cut a few times before I was happy to walk out. This might make it sound like I was hard to please, but believe me I find it very difficult to be honest and speak up while I am in the chair. The cut around my face just didn't flow. That being said, when it was finished, even though it was shorter than I had wanted, I did quite like the cut. 1 star. Blowout: I did walk out with slightly sticky feeling hair that looked fairly oily from all the product. I have walked out of salons looking worse than that, but have also had better. The true test is after a wash, and unfortunately it failed. Curls, waves and frizz are straight back (and yes, I did use the special pureology products). Usually the hair would be fairly tame after washing, after all, that is the reason we get this done right? Therefore I see the $150 spent on the blowout to be a complete waste. I have read other reviewers say it took 2 hours to do the blowout - mine did not, so perhaps that's why it wasn't as good? The Salon: no magazines, and no music. At one point the owner turned some music on (hooray!), but when she disappeared with a client, her husband turned the music off, put a car show on the TV, and then left with the kids 5 minutes later?! Strange. The owner genuinely seemed really lovely, but you really need to give paying customers something to do. Also kind of strange was another stylist who was sitting on the other side of our station who had no customers, and keep peering between the dividers every 5 minutes or so to sneak a peek at what was happening. Price: $150 for the blowout (living social special), & $65 for the cut & color. Josette tried to change the price on me when it came time to pay - whether that was intentional or not, who knows. I got a Yelp deal to get the eyelash extensions at this place. The location is kind of hard to find; it's definitely not in an ideal spot. The main problem I have with it is that I had to wait another half an hour after my scheduled time for my appointment to actually start. The lady that did the eyelash extensions was nice (I think she's also the owner). However, she spent way more time on my first eye than the second eye so my right eye ended up not looking as full as the left one. This was obviously because my appointment was delayed by 1/2 hour due to the person in front of me, which delayed all other appointments throughout the day. Overall, the eyelashes were really nice. I just wish she spent the same amount of time and effort on BOTH eyes, not just one. Also, she had her kids running around the salon for the entire 3 hours I was there for. I felt bad for them because they were so bored and would ask to play my Ipad games. I feel it's also unprofessional to have your kids hanging out all day in your business. read more

I went in yesterday to get a cut and color by Josette and LOVE the job she did. I have very thin/fine hair and it's always hard to find someone who can cut and style it well. I have gone to Josette a few times now and have never been disappointed. She is awesome when it comes to color, she dyed my hair a beautiful red and added in some killer blonde highlights. This is a few weeks late, but this review is for the Brazilian Blowout I had done by Josette. I have to say I was very disappointed with how this turned out. I've had the Brazilian Blowout done before at another salon and I was so happy with it, I obviously expected a similar outcome for my second one. However, after having it done and washing it (with sulfate free products) my hair was still frizzy! To be honest, there really wasn't much of a difference with my normal hair before and after the process.I have naturally thick, semi coarse hair but my previous Brazilian blowout softened my hair and completely got rid of my frizz. I called back telling her what had happened and she told me to come back in the next day, which was good. She had her assistant fix the sides of my hair where most of the frizz had come back, saying everything else was fine. I'll admit it made my hair softer and straighter the second time around, but it was still frizzy! I'm not sure if the product has changed since my last time doing it, but overall I am not pleased at all. If I'm paying $150 bucks for my hair, I expect to have it done properly. While I appreciate her fixing it soon after, I don't think it should've happened in the first place. She should have paid more attention to my hair texture and realized it would require more product. Also, can't say I was a huge fan of Josette, she always seemed to be preoccupied with other things. It came off as a little unprofessional at times. Had eyelash extensions done yesterday, they look great! She used a lighter color extension so it isn't such an unnatural contrast with my blond hair. Very happy with the lighter color!!! What I'm most happy about is the quality work Rachell performed. This was my 4th getting extensions but my first time here with Rachell. Previous place must have glued them to my skin, or something because they were REALLY uncomfortable for 3-4 days afterwards. I've come here for lash extensions more than a few times, so this review is long overdue but very much deserved. Rachell does an amazing job and certainly takes her time in making sure you look great. I've received many compliments on my eyelashes from women and guys comment on my eyes (without being able to notice they're extensions). I don't splurge often on myself, but this service is very much worth it. What I like most about Rachell is that she makes you feel very welcome. She gets to know her clients very well and establishes a friendly connection with them. Just a side note -- my appointments vary in time apart. Sometimes the lashes last almost 4 weeks! Other times, just 2-3 weeks. The price for retouch depends on how much time is spent fixing you up. You can ask for a natural look, or for special occasions (like Vegas) a more "Diva-licious" look. read more

I was looking for last minute eyelashes and when quoted a price I was not sure I wanted to spend that much. She said she has been doing them for years and is very professional. I made an appt for same day. she was nice the salon was clean and comfortable, but the eyelashes did not look good at all. They did not look anywhere close to natural they were not fanned out and looks like a short stubby caterpillar on my eyes. They were not even with long lashes in some spots and holes in others. No wonder she did not want to take an after picture. The first time I had them (from another salon) I did not even notice they were on. This time they were stiff and bothersome. I started coming here for eyelash extensions, this was my first experience with them and I didn't kno what to expect. Rachell was very kind, however when I got my lashes done they were gone within a week. LAME for the price u pay. Let's just say what u pay isn't worth a week! Just saying! I've been getting my eyelashes done for 2 years. I decided to try this place a couple months ago since it's closer to my parent's house. I really wanted to like Rachelle so I gave her 3 chances to work on my lashes. Each time I went to her, she would use some oily stuff to "clean" my lashes and then harshly brush them out, which would take out dozens of extra lashes. Then she'd overcharge me because my lashes were "pretty bare". She used that exact term every time I went there. She claimed that she was brushing out lashes that were about to fall out anyway, but strangely, lashes done from her don't last any longer than the ones done from my regular lady. The service was fine. However, don't give them your credit card! A $240 charge on my card on 7/6 for what was supposed to be a $120 transaction has not been corrected as of 7/29. I emailed the salon about correcting the transaction. They told me to call. So I have called. She said we are busy, and had not had a chance to adjust the charge??? Now the charge is still sitting on my card. Its been 3 weeks??? This isn't a big business that has to request a refund from their corporate office. Sketchy at best. read more
