I'm sorry to report that everything has dropped at this place since my original review. Firstly, the amount of food has shrunk dramatically since last year. Secondly, the items in our favorite dish (Blackened Salmon) were not up to usual standards yesterday (May 17, 2025). The fish was overcooked and dry even after requesting that it be cooked "rare". The rice, usually very tasty was boring and also dry. The salad smelled "off" and the avocado slices were from the smallest avocado in existence. The chef omitted the usual chipotle sauce and I had to request it. The black beans were very good, but the portion was half the usual size. As for ambiance, the noise level was so loud we couldn't converse with our guests sitting next to us! Our wait staff person was well-meaning, but we had to wait for our orders for almost an hour!!! She told us it was because of a group of 8 people outside. When we arrived there was no one sitting outside. Totally inexcusable all around. We won't be returning. Sad, as all of our other experiences here have been great. read more

I loved this place!...when it first opened!! The decor is beautiful and the atmosphere is still great as well. The food was great too, of course, at that time. When I walked in, there was only two people in the restaurant sitting at the bar the waitress finally came over to take my order, and when she did she then proceeded to walk back outside and visit for another 10 minutes with the hostess.... My mother, my daughter, and I ended up at Z South when Z Café (across the street) was packed and had an hour wait for a table. I am so appreciative that the hostess directed us to Z South. Z South is very cozy and quiet, which is a great fit for my laid back personality. The staff was very friendly and personable. We started off with some chips and salsa. This was not your average chips and salsa. The chips were freshly made (there's nothing like warm tortilla chips) and weren't those thin tortilla chips that fall apart. The chips were just thick enough, but not too thick. There were no chips left behind...no broken pieces left behind in the salsa. Ohhhhh, the salsa. My mouth is watering just at the thought of the salsa! Honestly, I would have been happy with just chips and salsa; it was that good. I ordered a salad that seriously tasted like the greens, cucumber, and avocado had just been picked. My mother asked to try some of my avocado; she said it tasted like the avocado (or as they're called in Jamaica, "pear") back in Jamaica. Believe me, that's the highest compliment she can pay! My mother is a tough critic. She was a little disappointed that there were no burritos on the menu, but once she tasted the short rib tacos, all was forgiven. She even used her fingers to pick up her taco (usually a no-no in her book, as she follows the queen's etiquette...and then some). My daughter also enjoyed her chicken tacos. Z best!!! A blunder had our group of 20 descending upon this sweet, unsuspecting gem. Why there are two restaurants called Z in the same mall is beyond me, but today it worked to our advantage. The host had us wait while he expertly and efficiently prepared our tables. The server was unruffled, pleasant and overall amazing!!! Kudos to the kitchen for turning out the most delicious dishes in record time! The three fresh salsas to start with chips were all so very good and not too spicy for my delicate mouth. The beer list is limited. I ordered the chile verde dish. The fat to meat ratio was in excess of 50% with large globs of fat attached to small strings of actual pork. The rice and beans although pleasantly presented were bland and unnoteworthy. Wife had ordered two item combo and experienced same disappointment w/excessive fat and bland taste.
