This was my first time at this restaurant since it changed to Z South-still a Mexican restaurant though. I THINK someone is supposed to greet you upon entering, but after waiting an awkward several minutes, my husband decided to go inside and look for seating. He found seats at the bar, so we made ourselves comfortable there. The staff was friendly but they could have used a couple more members to help. The used dishes remained on the bar counter the entire time we were there. Alcohol beverages are served here so we ordered the margarita. It was decent. I ordered shrimp tacos. After a long wait, I was pleasantly surprised at how good they were. It was a little greasy, making the taco shells fall apart, but the flavor was really good. If you're considering stopping in to check it out, I recommend you set your expectations low so you're not disappointed. read more

I have been here for lunch about a dozen times and it is the exact same story every time. Great food, terrible service but not the fault of the employees. There will be 15-20 tables with customers plus those at the bar and there is only one hostess and one server. Who is also the bartender. They need another hostess and server but I fear management is too cheap to do this as that would cut into profits. read more

We went to Z South and we're pleasantly surprised that they had a happy hour menu (although only from 2-5). We had Margaritas ($5), floutas (($6), rolled tacos ($5), Brussel sprouts ($10), wings ($8). Food was pretty good- especially for the price. I will write another review when we go back and try their normal menu entrees but wanted to share the fact that they do have some decent deals for happy hour since it does not seem to be advertised and there wasn't a HH menu on our table when we got there. Fawk This Place! Ive never in my life been treated with such disregard from a hostess. I pull up with my uncle and we are starving and ask to be seated. Hostess says 25 minutes and its not very busy. We say ok and we will be back in ten minutes. As we are walking away we notice 3 booths completely open. I stop and turn around and go back to her and tell her. She says that they are saving those for business that maybe will or maybe wont show up when it's a obvious nobody is showing up. I told her we will spend more money than a filled booth and she said,"Fine, ill ask my manager" and then she walks back outside two minutes later and doesn't even address me and starts bussing yet another table. It was blatant disrespect to a point where it was like, "Oh sh!t, she is punking my uncle and I"! So take my word for it.... DON'T GO HERE. This just happened to me 15 minutes ago and I went to an AMAZING ITALIAN restaurant across the parking lot and It was a blessing in disguise! Fresco Italian Grill is so much better and my night is filled with laughs again. I have never written a review like this as I want to pump up restaurants(check my other reviews) but man, the General Manager of this restaurant needs to re evaluate how he runs a restaurant. Great food - however there were some slip ups with service. We ordered two salads that sat for ten mins while they made the dressing. Then our entrees came. I asked the waiter to remove the salads from our bill. The Lime Avocado salads did look great (wish I could've eaten them.) we ordered vegetarian tamales and they showed up with meat in them. Not cool when you're a vegetarian who hasn't eaten meat in 15 years. All in all the issues here are with service not the food which was good. I'm surprised that Z south doesn't have a yelp yet because it's so delicious. I think it's an offshoot of Z cafe which is also excellent. This is in the same shopping center and has such a cute atmosphere inside. So far I have gone twice and would definitely go back. I hope more people will add pictures now that it's on Yelp! The service can sometimes be a little lacking if they are understaffed and it gets really busy but the staff tries their best each time. The wife and I felt like something different last night and we both agreed we wanted seafood. The reviews on z south got us there and we were not disappointed. We ordered the blackened salmon plate which included rice, black beans, and an avocado tomato salad. Also the sea bass plate in a red chili sauce with rice, asparagus with tomatoes and olives. We enjoy the delicious food, if you are looking to order take-out, this is the place you want. The poke tostada appetizer is always fresh with a tataki sauces served over it, the burritos are fresh and delucious ( if you need to adjust food items in the burrito they are very accommodating ), the nachos are delicious. The carnitas are excellent and both the Birria and Short Rib tacos are a welcome change to a usual menu. Portions are substantial. Being a fan of Z Cafe, I was excited to try the food at Z South. The first time we went it was closed, so I was happy to see it was open when we arrived on Sunday at noon. I also had heard great things about this place from my son who frequents it regularly. I don't know if they were having an off day, but frankly, my very high expectations were dashed once I got my cheese enchiladas with rice & beans. My friend ordered beef enchiladas. Perhaps my expectations were too high? The presentation was certainly gorgeous! But the food was just meh, for both of us. The rice was sort of gooey. The tortillas on the enchiladas were rather chewy. Not much flavor, sadly. However, on the plus side, the service was excellent and our server Kyle was very friendly. The vibe in the restaurant and decor is nice. The chips were warm & fresh & the salsas were tasty. My margarita was yummy. It was sort of far to travel but I would definitely try and it again to give their Chile rellenos a try as many folks have noted they are superb. It's hard to compare Mexican fare because there are so many great choices from hole in the walls to nicer sit-down places. I typically dine at Miguel's and Casa de Bandini so as I ate here, I was comparing their food. Maybe they had an off day? I really had hoped to give it 5 stars.
