Za might just be the best pizza in SF. Nice thin crust, large slices, and great topping combos. Try the honey mustard, it is elite.

I've been coming to see Brooks and his pizza since he was on Polk St 30(?) years ago. They make 3-4 different slice options and the cheese or pepperoni options are THE BESTin The City!!! I used to come here for hangover cures but for the last 18 years have been coming with the fam. My oldest just graduated from HS and wanted ZA. It is that good!!! Brooks you are the best. Repetition creates excellence and you my friend are a master pizza maker. THANK YOU!!!

1/2 Potesto Pizza and 1/2 Vincent Van Dough Pizza - large pie

I ordered from here today on Super Bowl Sunday. As a former New Yorker, I am always on the hunt for great pizza, and Za's always brings back warm memories of my childhood neighborhood. It is easily one of the top spots on my list. My favorite is the Potesto. It is topped with roasted potatoes and roasted garlic, with a fresh pesto as the sauce. It is rich, comforting, and packed with flavor. My second favorite is the Vincent Van Dough. This one is made with tomatoes, basil, and roasted garlic. It was love at first bite when I first tried it about 20 years ago, and the flavor is still just as good today. I usually add chicken to this, but today is I ordered just as how it is. Prices for a whole pie have gone up a bit over the past years, but you can still get a large pie for around $35, which comes with eight big slices. If you are ever in the neighborhood, or simply craving a solid New York style pizza, this place is definitely worth a try. They actually stopped taking new orders right after mine because they were fully booked with orders for the next three hours. That says a lot about how popular this neighborhood gem is.

The place is a small, cozy local spot. The people working are nice and the area is great. In terms of pizza- 2.5/5 I got the scaliano and honestly wasn't really too impressed. It wasn't terrible but not good. The crust doesn't have a solid texture, crunch or softness of a great Za. There's not much sauce and the cheese isn't stringy. The ingredients in general were a bit too bland for my taste. As soon as you need ranch/sauce to enjoy a pizza, you realize it's not a good pizza - and at $30 for a medium pizza it might not be worth it, especially with all the great options nearby in north beach. But maybe I'll try another considering it's so close to me and the locals love it.

San Francisco Foodies MeetUp at Za Pizzeria about twenty of us showed up and had fun chatting and eating hot, cheesy, great pizza. A mainstay in Russian Hill for over 20 years. Say Hi, tip well, Friendly, fast, and always has an answer. There are a few secrets about their restaurant.. maybe if you go twenty or so times in a few months they'll tell you too. I had three slices, their cheese, pepperoni and Bluto. #SanFrancisco #SanFranciscoFoodie #sffoodies #SanFranciscoFoodies #sffoodie #nofilter #foodie #EatSanFrancisco #SanFranciscoFood #ItalianFood #Pizza #Za

Delicious veg and non veg pizza! The reheated slices are super crispy and loaded with delicious toppings. They are also huge - one will fill you up. The servers are friendly and there are topping dispensers available for oregano, cheese, and chili flakes. The interior seating is limited, but there are outdoor tables available.

Za pizza is a neighborhood gem. Located in a real sweet spot where you can't get a slice anywhere else in the area. Za does solid Za. Plain and simple. It's not going to knock you off your feet but you are going to be very aware that you are eating tasty pizza. I got the Da Vinci palate recently and oddly enough it does look like an original Da Vinci if you squint when you're looking at it. A real piece of art. They go real heavy on the toppings here. It's hard to complain about that, but I liked the sauce so much that it didn't get to stand out as much amongst the 43 pounds of toppings. Also, with so many toppings it's hard for the structural integrity of the pizza to stand up upon pick up. But who am I to complain about too many toppings? That sounds absurd. I've also had a pepperoni slice. Also, very solid. Overall you can't help but like this place. Quality pizza in a quality neighborhood. (4.2 stars)

So pizza in Cali has a cap at 4/5 this gets a solid 3.2 for me. When I'm in SF this is one of the spots I always visit as it's a local joint with a great vibe. The pizza has quality toppings from the meat, to the cheese, and the crust. I enjoy the full pie but for some reason ordering the slice gives the pizza a better stiffer undercarriage. Maybe as for a little well done if you want less "flop" But it's a a good joint in this neighborhood!

Thin, crispy crust with emphasis on toppings. Wasn't greasy, overly cheesy, nor loaded up on cheap tomato sauce like many other places. Thought it was a great slice! Just wish it were a little less than $7.50 a slice. Next time I'll just get a whole pie!

Great vibe and fun owner! Pizza, so good! That sums it up really. The owner was super nice, chatty in a good way, super community oriented, and very friendly. I'd be him if I owned a joint like that myself! Super passionate and happy doing what he does and running a pizza shop. The pizza was truly flavorful. They used corn meal! You don't see that much anymore. I'm def returning.

Smooth pickup process and delicious pizza! Probably some of the best pizza I've tried in SF, wish I had tried it sooner!

I ordered the - Buffalo Wings - How Mushroom The buffalo wings were delicious and although on the pricier side, was just good enough for me to overlook it. It comes with green onions as a garnish with a Bleu cheese dip and carrot sticks. The only negative thing about this was that there wasn't enough carrot sticks. The How mushroom was recommended to me by a staff member and I thought was just a little plain; it was on the more bread side which I'm pretty sure is the standard for Detroit style pizza. In all honesty, I wish there was a bit more toppings to accommodate the amount of bread to topping ratio as this felt more of a cheesy bread sticks from Pizza My Heart. My favorite thing about this place is there were chilled glasses with taps for still water and sparkling water, which was free. In honesty, the sparkling water is an essential need to kill the grease in our meal. Overall, the staff were pretty friendly and helpful during the ordering process, the pizza itself wasn't for me. Would I come again? Only if I'm craving pizza and happen to be in the area.

Service was generally polite but a bit sparse given how busy it was. I specifically asked whether the kids' pizzas were small personal sizes or large enough to share, and was told they were personal-sized. Unfortunately, we ended up with more food than we could realistically finish and essentially paid for a pizza that went to waste, which was frustrating. The food itself didn't quite meet expectations based on the reviews. One of our pizzas also came out slightly undercooked, but the kids were too tired for us to send it back and wait for a remake, so we just made do. Overall, the experience was just okay, especially compared to other pizza spots we tried during our trip. After visiting places like Tony's, which we loved, this one fell short for us. The restaurant was busy and had a decent energy, and others may have a better experience depending on timing. For us, though, it's not a place we'd return to.
