I used to frequent The Madison Bar & Grill, but then it sort of fell off my radar, particularly after my mediocre visit last year. However, I was recently in the area and searching for a brunch spot, so I decided to give it another shot. The restaurant was crowded, but we were able to grab stools at the bar. The female bartender immediately came by to assist us and was a complete sweetheart. We started by ordering drinks, and I went with a Bloody Mary, which I had seen my neighboring bar patron order, though it was not on their beverage list. I was worried that the juicy mixer might not be that great if they were not promoting it, but, boy, was it excellent! The Bloody Mary mix was packed with fresh horseradish and pepper, giving it the real kick I yearned for. In terms of the food, I opted for a Three Egg Omelet, but using egg whites. I was able to choose 3 fillings and selected tomatoes, mushrooms, and red peppers. First off, the eggs were cooked perfectly; they were not runny at all and had just the slightest hint of a golden brown color. They were served with tasty breakfast potatoes that were cooked with sauteed onions, red peppers, and scallions, which were a wise inclusion. While I typically try not to finish all of my fried breakfast potatoes, these were too good to leave any behind! The meal also included my choice of toast, so I went with whole wheat, which was fine, but standard. Overall, I was so pleasantly surprised by just how delicious everything was, and I would certainly return, especially for brunch! Sitting at the bar also added to the upbeat atmosphere. read more

Family friendly but keep in mind you are at a bar in Hoboken. French onion dumplings TO DIE FOR. I live in NYC and I would go back just for these dumplings. They are THAT good! Since we were only doing appetisers I cannot speak about the entrées but the fries, steak sandwiches and burger sliders delicious. Parking was validated which was greatly appreciated. Solid traditional NY style bar in North of Hoboken! Bar tenders were super friendly and efficient! Popped in on a cold, late night around 8:30pm and ordered the tomato pie off the vegan menu. I didn't think I was hungry but ended up finishing the whole thing! Great music, Christmas decor for the holiday season and fair prices for the bar. The menu was solid and I'm not sure what it was missing but maybe I came too late and night or alone but the vibe, although cool, maybe was petering out by the time I got there. A chill place to have a meal, nice bar area. We didn't order drinks but went straight to the appetizer, sriracha mac and cheese balls (1/5) which had a flavor more of buffalo sauce than sriracha which I am personally not a fan of, they were ok-- sounded better on paper than it tasted. For my main meal, I ordered the Madison Cobb Salad which tasted so much better than it looked(iceberg lettuce doesn't always look as vibrant and appetizing but the texture and overall flavor is perfect for this salad)! It was dressed well with spicy honey and I loved the kick of the blackened chicken along with it. I also had a side of the sweet potato fries which hit the spot with it's maple pecan aioli, even better than the truffle fries my partner had with his burger. Overall, I enjoyed my food besides the sriracha mac and cheese bombs--server was just ok, could've been better with attentiveness but overall service was good--pretty quick and punctual. read more

Food was pretty good. Their signature burger was better than most steakhouses. I give them a lot credit for that. Really good seasoning, even f it was just salt & pepper- the meat was great. I ordered medium rare, came out medium. Hungry gusset don't usually mention it. I didn't. I was hungry. The French onion soup dumplings just do not work in the escargot tray. It's clever but doesn't work. The dumplings were not easy to remove from the tray or eat. They immediately open as you remove one and all the contents fall out all over the dish. After about 3 we asked for some bread so we could try to soak up and salvage all the contents that were on the tray. The bread took 15 mins. We asked one server, she told our server, who probably forgot. We asked again and a few mins later a 3rd person ran the bread out. Also- not all the holes on the escargot tray were filled. 2 were empty. I'm not sure if that's by design or what but it was not cool. The cheese on top was the best part. The contents were tasty I guess, but by time the bread arrived it they were no longer hot. Luckily the bread was. I will say the service was pretty "eh". Slow, and kinda tired. Maybe it was a busy brunch and they were on a doubles... but I don't see how that should be my problem. BUT the bread was outstanding. Either freshly made or darn close! Was hot and garlicky and delicious. It helped with the dumplings. But the dumplings were a bust. We ordered 2 orders of the clams, which is the only reason we came. 10 or so minutes after placing our order the server came over and told us they were out of the clams. So, all supermarkets and Costco's and Restaurant depots, Wholefoods etc.. were all closed? No. They weren't. Go buy them! Or take it off the menu. Or train your servers to communicate this type of information to guests before they order. We could have left and went to any of a dozen options for clams. I could have bought them my self and went home and made them. Ridiculous. Look, if you tell us when we are sat what is 86'd (not available) that's one thing. But allowing us to place an order and then return to tell us "we are out of the clams, we sold them all at brunch" is unacceptable. Brunch was over 3-4 hours before we arrived- buy more! Or take them off the menu. Or tell us when we are sat what's on the menu BUT not available. I don't think I'd go back here. It's seems more like a neighborhood "dive sports bar" that caters to a local undiscerning bar crowd and all that...which is a shame become the food is way better than that! the food as a whole is better than the service behind it and better than the "sports bar" atmosphere wrapped around it. read more

We went to the Madison last night for dinner and all of our food was very good! We started with the wings, which were spicy and had good flavor. For entrees we had the Mac and cheese, spaghetti bolognese, and the short rib grilled cheese sandwich. All of the dishes were very tasty and came out quickly! I came from Long Island to visit a friend and they chose the place. When I arrived they said that we had outside dining. I'm thinking, nice weather. As we headed toward the outside dining area, I saw several dogs. I was not easy with that and I received displeasure from another guest that gave me non verbal communication. I ordered the hanger steak with rice, black beans and home fries. They didn't have rice not the home fries. The steak was cold, with no exaggeration of the temperature of the steak and it was really chewy. The salad was pretty plain but delicious. The black beans were hot and dry but the service was EXCELLENT! We went yesterday for a brunch with family, 8 of us. We We're seated inside. We had a 2pm reservations for 8 of us (2 were children) there were only two other tables in use on inside dining room. Mostly everyone was out side. After 15 mins of sitting, no one had showed up to,take drink or food order. I went to desk to advise of this and promptly a waitress appeared. We gave her our drink and food order. It took a while for our drinks to get to us, but we understood this since it was busy both in the bar side and outside area. The food came and I will admit it was very good. Everyone seemed to enjoy it. We completed our lunch and asked for check. We unfortunately did not notice they put a tip on for us already (20%) and we paid the bill by credit card and advised our waitress we would be leaving her tip in cash, she said ok. That night when reviewing the bill we noticed the tip was included on our check which was a $60.00 tip. We gave her an additional $80 tip in cash in which she said thank you and left. It would have been great service on behalf of the restaurant if the waitress would have mentioned when I said we will be leaving her tip in cash that the tip was already on the bill. I know this was our error and we are at fault in not reading the bottom line, but we are not really restaurant goers so we were not used to tips being added .....I'm sure somewhere on the menu it did advise us of tips added for certain amount of people served. We figured out on a $305.00 check, the tip we gave her amounted to 46% of this bill ($140.00) Otherwise this place was nice and relaxed with good foods and drinks. The service : not exactly the best , we sat at the bar and the bartenders weren't really very attentive . Please know the bar wants crowded . Than they switched bartenders and they weren't much better either . So I'm disappointed about that .1 The food : the grilled chicken was every good however the salmon was way to dry and I couldn't even finish :( because was just that dry .. The bathroom : definitely not the cleanest bathroom for a Thursday evening when they weren't even that busy . So someone definitely need to address this issue . More elevated menu and experience !! Have lived in the area for 6 years and eaten here multiple times. Years ago it was a go to bar spot and didn't choose to eat here often. I've dined twice here in the last 2 months and had an amazing experience both times. The cocktails have been updated and are very tasty. I love this restaurant! They do an awesome brunch and offer delicious food. I was blown away by their Bianca Veggie pizza. The chicken Cesar salad was standard but very good. They offer a very large outdoor dining space that is beautifully decorated with planted flowers. Good place for brunch. We made a reservation to come in on a Sunday morning and were seated in the back room immediately. Despite not being overly hungry, I couldn't turn down the Chicken and Waffles. The fried chicken breast was very good... super moist and flavorful. The drumstick was also okay despite the slightly gray color that was initially unappealing lol. The breading wasn't the best, but still a good Chicken and Waffles dish. This is our second time coming to the Madison bar and grill and it did not disappoint in the food and drink department. Pros: - Love their outdoor seating. Nice ambience and has a smaller enclosed seating area off of Washington. - Service was good but our original server either left or switched off our table at some point and never said anything. While she was good, I found it odd that she didn't say anything, she just disappeared. - Drinks were very good. I had the Diablo which I very much enjoyed. I love the fact that they have CBD mock tails for those who don't drink. Cons: - A bit on the pricey side. Perhaps this may be a con and normally it's not for me but after paying the bill we questioned how it added up so quickly. With that, I recommend the Madison and we'd certainly come back!! read more

We actually made reservations at Bin14 next door, but due to some confusion we didn't get indoor seating like we initially hoped. At the time, Madison Bar and Grill had an opening for a table of 5, which saved us from sitting in the cold. Food: - you have to try the Mac and cheese bites. They were perfect on a cold winter day. - the French Onion Dumplings were unique. It had a lot of cheese and a lot of onion. Still tasted good overall and nice to share between multiple people - the omelette is hefty and tastes great. I got it with the goat cheese because that's my favorite. - the veggie panini was a little underwhelming. Would not recommend. - the Bellinis are better tasting than the Mimosas - on the more expensive side for brunch. But it is Hoboken. I had a great dining experience at the Madison! My friend and I came for dinner and we were seated promptly. I recommend making a reservation for weekend nights since it was so packed. We both started off with the all my exes cocktail and it was delicious but strong. For apps we got a side of fries that came with ketchup and an aioli sauce. I ordered the burrata pasta from the restaurant week menu and it was absolutely amazing!! The pasta itself was herby and garlicky and the burrata added a nice texture to the meal.
