Space in the back is really cute, feels like you're in a little cabana. We tried a variety of tacos including the pork belly, carne asada, carnitas, beer battered fish, and black bean. My favorite was the beer battered fish by far, followed by the carnitas. Pork belly had a nice smoky flavor but was a tad too stringy. I also tried the sangria, which somehow tasted like a margarita (there was definitely tequila in there) - maybe something got lost in translation? First place we ate at when we landed in Culebra just after noon. Got beer battered fish taco, pork stomach taco and shared a beef nachos with my friend. Atmosphere was very laid back. The owners seem to be expat Americans. Service was a bit slow but I think it was because our nachos took so long to cook. Overall the tacos were very good. Slightly larger than the LA roach coach tacos they were a bit more expensive ranging from $2.50 to $3.00 but I think that's just how it is when you're on a small island. Nachos were great too, just a nice melt of the cheese where it was still gooey and not burnt. I would eat there again and recommend it for people visiting the island. read more

SO glad we made a point to come to Zaco's after a long day at the beach! Just a 2 min walk from the marina, Zaco's is definitely worth a trip if you are in Culebra. We sat inside, but they have a really nice deck out back. Bartender is really nice and laid back. The whole place has such a nice neighborhood feel where you can just hang out and enjoy some awesome food/drink. We had: - Coco Lime daquiri (no alcohol- Im allergic)- tasty, but would be better if i could have alcohol! - Homemade hibiscus tea- really good and super refreshing - Chips and salsa- chips come out piping hot! - Pork belly taco- Sooooo good! Must try! Absolute best vegetarian tacos I've ever had in my life, and with so much variety! Friendly staff and charming decor as well. Only drawback is the thieving roosters on the back deck. If you don't watch out, they'll hop onto a chair and yank any unattended tacos onto the floor, and the rest of the chickens on the patio will descend to peck on it until someone shoos them away. This place is not what it's cracked up to be. Our server was a surfer-guy type and seemed uninterested in his job. The food and drinks were overpriced, but the Pina Colada was good and strong. The atmosphere is cool but it's definitely catered to the middle-America people who are on cruises, instead of being billed as authentic Mexican food. The fish taco I had was actually pretty good. I enjoyed it but then it was gone. The carne asada taco on the other hand was not. It came in a bland flour tortilla (?) and had a tiny hunk of lime to attempt to brighten up the flavor. For the 4.5 star rating this place has, it doesn't make sense to my wife or me. The food was aggressively mediocre and overpriced, and we'd rather stay in and cook ourselves at our AirBnB than spend $35 on mediocre food and service. This is not a must go. If you don't know Mexican cuisine and don't mind shelling out for it, I guess. But if you've EVER had authentic Mexican food, this is a hard pass. read more

In short, the best tacos I have ever had. Zaco's Tacos is a low keyestablishment located on the small island of Culebra. Like many of the restaurants on the island, the place has a very laid back, tropical fell to it. The building is painted in bright colors and has most of the seating is located on the back on a deck. We tried 4 different taco in all; Chicken, black bean, carne asada and a special chorizo taco which wasn't on the menu. All of them were delectable but the chorizo was superb. This place is so good, I can't help but taco bout it. The atmosphere is festive and perfectly suited to caribbean island life with its indoor-outdoor setup. Roosters roam all over the island of Culebra, and Zacos Tacos is no exception. You may also find some cute dogs hanging out on the back patio. Service was very friendly and competent, but the stars of the restaurant are the food and drinks. Everything we had was delicious (tofu burrito, black bean taco, fish taco, ahi tuna taco, pork belly taco, and carnitas taco). Actually, so good that we ate here twice in the course of 24 hours. If you like fish, the ahi tuna and fish tacos are my favorites. They are to die for. The beer batter on the fish was some of the best I've ever had! The piña colada and mojito are delicious and strong here. I could have that piña colada for days. For beer snobs there are a few imported craft beers available, but watch out as they are sometimes not super fresh. Come once, come twice, whatever floats your island hopping boat. I'm sitting in this place right now but had to start this review! Everything is super fresh and delicious. I had the pork belly taco, the ahi tuna, and the fried fish. All were cooked perfectly. The pork belly was tender and juicy. The fried fish was perfectly crispy and the ahi tuna was sushi grade fresh. They also have a great selection of salsas to accompany the tacos. Have you ever wanted to waste your time as others walked through and got their food without a care and you stood in line for 40 minutes as all of waiters literally looked at you and ignored you then this is the establishment for you. There is no sense of organization here I would have tried the food if someone allowed me to order it. If you are in a time crunch better yet if you aren't don't even go here. Great big burritos, crazy strong spiked lemonade' I chose some unique tacos and chips. 1) chips needed more salsa; very small amount given 2) pork belly taco was superb 3) a taco on the specials board that was steak seaweed kimchi. My big complaint on this is that there wasn't kimchi= it was cabbage! I still enjoyed it, and it's forgivable considering all the challenges of island food, (supplies can be sporadic) and how tasty it was regardless was great. I don't know how they get all those good reviews. It took 10 minutes to get us seated. They only got one waitress tending the bar, assigning table, taking order, bring out food and get the bill. So it took more time than a normal restaurant. And she was persistent about taking the order first from the previous table even we have already decided on our order. So after waiting for 6 people to decide for 40 minutes, we can finally placed the order and then luckily the table ordered after us got the exact same appetizer prior to us. It was a chaotic system with lots of waiting time. If you are hungry or in the mood for a quick bite, DO NOT COME! The tacos are ok, the butter milk fish was my favorite. Beef was a disappointment, tuna and pork belly are mediocre. Well, the key lime pie was good, maybe best for the meal. My suggestion is to hire more people in front, avoid the chaotic management, will definitely improve the dining experience. read more

We ate here and it was pretty good, but the menu was limited. Maybe it was the time of day we came, but there was 4 taco choices (tuna, fish, pork, bean) and not many other dishes available. We chose the nachos The bushwhacker drink was really good, the carnita nachos were good but pretty basic - you get the same dish with cheese only, or beans, or with shredded pork. It was good though. We had the pork tacos too and they were good, small for 4 bucks each, but tasty. Overall it was good, not spectacular, but we'd go back and it was a nice meal. Went back for the second year, and our third and fourth experiences with zaco's tacos knocked my previous review down to 4 stars. While most of the food was delicious (especially the burritos and the carnitas taco), my second pork belly taco was tough and gristly. I had a mojito which was delicious but very light on alcohol, my fellow diners reported their drinks were also weak. Finally, there are no high chairs in the restaurant. the first time i visited culebra in 2006, zaco's was not there. but zaco's was the first place i hit in my 2012 visit to the tiny, beautiful island. situated at the top of the hill in town, zaco's serves a mean hibiscus margarita, yes please. perfection for a cold northeasterner in march. pina coladas, divine. tried the tuna taco, the carnitas, the pork belly, and the prime rib taco. all were delicious, as were the assortment of hot sauces available for sampling. and zaco's was extremely accommodating to my dairy allergy, and my partner's gluten allergy, by using corn tortillas and giving us cheese and sour cream as a side. it seemed most of the employees were transplants from the US, charming, attractive, and full of good energy. but what zaco's needs to cash in on are those desserts! i have never had turtle pie so rich and fudgy and perfect and amazing. there was probably dairy in it and i didn't even care. the turtle pie was so spectacular, we returned the next night for another slice. zack needs to distribute those internationally. i'll help. i've got ummm, pie connections...just send me a few and i'll make a press kit.. read more

Totally do not get the hype on this place. If it were representative of the island, I'd bring my own food or eat MREs. High prices, bland food, and the stale contrived ex-pat 'living the island cool' attitude. I think they thought they were on Vieques when they opened the place, as this is way out of step with the rest of Culebra. Food-wise, this is the same you'd get off of a food truck in any US city. Literally, since all of their food comes out of the grocery store; inexplicably NONE of the seafood is procured locally. Flash frozen mahi-mahi taco on an island surrounded by fish, are you serious? I mean, if you are dying for a taco for some reason then yes they will sell you tacos, but it will taste exactly like any taco you had at a street stand at home. The staff is terrible, I couldn't tell if they were idiots, jerks or some combination. The place was absolutely empty and the imbecile wouldn't put a taco ingredient on the side, or add rice to a dish. Apparently they're under the delusion that they're producing haute-cuisine that doesn't suffer to modify for customers. Another staff communicated only by mutely pointing at things when responding to questions. Don't confuse the standard 'island slow' with what goes on here. Culebra is a great island with really neat options, don't waste your time with this frat house retirement home. read more

Perfect place to crash at, after a long ferry ride, kayaking, snorkeling, and beach day. The decor is very cool and welcoming. Open outdoor seating is great for any weather. We got some delicious Horny Mojitos and great seasonal drafts. Our waiter was very friendly and provided great suggestions. The food was finger-liking-good. Shrimp and crab nachos were to live for. Super tasty tacos! Not exactly "authentic" Mexican but delicious anyway. The tacos are fairly large but I was starving so I ordered 3 different ones (my fave by far being the fish taco with beer battered Grouper). Then I was still hungry so I ordered another fish taco. Then the next day after dinner I went back for another one as a snack. They were that good! Service is Caribbean style (meaning slow) so we opted to sit at the bar where we could easily get the server's attention vs. the back patio area (although it looked nice back there). They stop serving at 8pm which to me is extremely early but not for Culebra I guess. If I were to go back to Culebra for vacation I'd probably just eat here every night. read more

I was more than pleasantly surprised when I walkef into this place. Parking was strange.... n the block for that matter was strange, then I walked into an oasis. After arriving to Culebra we were famished and went to zacos tacos for an inexpensive ( we have two kids) and yummy lunch. we ordered bean tacos, fish tacos, pork belly tacos, and sangria. the tacos are super tasty( fish taco was our overall favorite, though my 3 year old son scarfed his bean taco), the three sauces are a must for a perfectly spicy and flavorful taco. the sangria was the best I've had in Puerto Rico so far! cool and chill atmosphere shaded by trees and vegetation, a tree swing!( perfect distraction for a little one) and roosters and chickens running around and eating people's leftovers. overall, great place to stop for lunch and would recommend to friends. read more

I LOVED this place. I was in Culebra for 2 nights and 2.5 days and I came here 3 separate times and brought some people I had met at flamenco beach to zacos for a good meal and night out. Great selection of tacos. I had the carne asada, pork belly, seared tuna, and beer battered fish as well as a carne asada burrito. My favourites were the beer battered fish and the pork belly (not to say the seared tuna and carne asada were bad at all but the first two were next level) All of the proteins were so delicious and had appropriate condiments on each of them. Came here for the tacos and was pretty impressed. We started off with 2 house margaritas and they were pretty damned good. For appetizer we chose the crab and shrimp tacos, these were actually pretty good. I chose the fish tacos and the carnitas taco for the main course, these were actually really yummy too. We heard this place had the best tacos in town, so we came here straight from the culebra ferry terminal before heading to the beach. The atmosphere is pretty cool -- the bar and seating area is in a covered outdoor open space in the back with pretty greenery. There were a couple of roosters hanging around which was a bit odd, but they were harmless! The drinks were great. Two of us got the hibiscus mojito (amazing - so refreshing, great flavor, and not too sweet), and one friend got the passion fruit mojito which was also great. I highly recommend the hibiscus one! The tacos were quite good, although not out of this world as they were advertised to me. I really liked the seaweed salad atop the ahi tuna taco. The service was a bit slow towards the end (getting the check and paying took a while and we were itching to get to the beach), but I think that's just part of the relaxed beach town vibes. Zaco's doesn't look like much from the outside but once you step through those doors OH MAN you are transported to such a cool vibe and great music going on in the back. We were immediately greeted by the nicest hostess who showed us over to the bar where we proceeded to get the BEST margaritas to go are you kidding me we could take our drinks to go my boyfriend and I was so thrilled, I had the Jalapeno margarita which was so tasty and refreshing, its a must try. We ordered the carne Assad taco, chicken taco and seared tuna taco and lastly the crab and shrimp nachos. Believe me, everything was so tasty and cook right down to perfection! I cannot stop dreaming about those beer battered fish tacos. By far the best quality and tasting food on the island. The Carne Asada tacos we're also incredible, my boyfriend had the carnitas which he also loved. Hot sauces we're flavorful and powerful. We dined at Zaco's twice while visiting this trip and service was great. We needed a quick bite before taking the ferry and the owner was awesome and slipped our order in first on busy lunch hour so we wouldn't be late!
