I used to eat at Zaika regularly but got out of the habit during the pandemic. I'm glad to see that little if anything has changed. Most people chose the buffet which in January 2023 was $23.00 per person at lunch time and $32.00 for evenings. That's quite a difference and as far as I know the supper buffet is the same as the lunch buffet . Zaika has been around for a long time so they are doing something right. I've been to other Indian buffets and still like Ziaka best. It's not quite as spicy as the others but the food is certainly not bland. The round buffet table is always remarkably tidy and has all the main dishes that you might want. Beside the round buffet table is a small dessert and salad bar. I've rarely found anything I like at the salad bar but the mango pudding from the dessert bar is quite good. The service is always friendly and fast. Every time we got up for seconds our plates were removed before we returned. If you enjoy Indian cuisine I would certainly recommend Zaika. I came here for a dinner party a few weeks ago. Prior to coming here I had never heard of this place before. We were treated to the buffet. The food was delicious, hot, and fresh. They did a good job replenishing the items as they got low. The garlic basa and goat curry were my favourite dishes. Very flavourful and the goat was so tender. As it was a buffet, the options were limited when you compare it to their a la carte menu which seemed to have a large selection of items. They even have a happy hour menu. So I gave this 4 stars in an earlier review, but i am not sure if we hit it on a bad lunch time, but the food wasn't hot and it wasn't good. The selection was limited. Some things were good. The fish pakora was tasty. But the rice was hard. The lamb needed a lot longer to cook - if you look at my plate you can see that. We just both shrugged as we ate. It definately wasn't up to par. Lamb Korma $25 Zaika 2303 Ellwood Drive SW Zaika must scour the depths of hell to make their Lamb Korma. I politely asked the restaurant to give me a spice level corresponding to femme-fatale Bipasha Basu's movies. However, I think her terrible films must be under Zaika's radar because they ignored my request and taunted me with more spice than a Michael Douglas erotic thriller. Sweating profusely, with a burning tongue, a tinnitus-like sensation in my ears, and a numb right nostril, I tried to power through the korma, but it features the kind of fiery heights that local Indian restaurants don't touch because they're sycophantic caucasian-pleasers. I don't know what it is - maybe it's the immigrant beatings of my childhood that turned me into a masochist - but I love painful amounts of spice. And Zaika pushed my nociceptors to their limit with this satanic product. At times, I felt like I was dipping my naan into Mola Ram's lava pit. And no amount of Om Namah Shivayas will save my chittar-hole from a legendary punishment tomorrow. Zaika's chunky, sturdy, and delicious lamb cubes - they don't rely on that stringy, fatty, and flavourless low-quality crap at my dad's favourite Indian restaurants - are immersed in a superb curry, featuring the perfect balance of mirch and masala. Yes, the korma is stupid-hot, but that's my personal preference. And the spice level doesn't prevent the korma from delivering the Zaika flavours that have enchanted Edmonton for over a decade. Unfortunately, I now feel like I've unleashed cenobites in my stomach and dread the afternoon #2s that await me tomorrow. My stomach is rumbling harder than the WWE in January. A bit far out of town but good none the less. However, due to it being on the South side it has ample parking and the space is very big. I believe these are the same owners that opened up Tiffin, which is cool so I'm glad to see that they're expanding. I love the layout of the place and the circular buffet. My wife and I ordered take-out the other day and the service and experience was exceptional. The person on their telephone was very helpful, as my wife has some allergies. We ordered the somewhat safe options, as we had eaten there before, but only tried their buffet. We ordered the Vegetable Pakoras, Butter Chicken, Aloo Gobi and two orders of Naan Bread. I'm so glad to see this area of the city growing. Although I do not live remotely close to Zaika (it takes me 30+ minutes to drive there, actually) I love that there are people making things work in new areas that aren't chain restos! Zaika is owned by a young couple who got their start under the people at India Garden I believe. It's in a new suburb as I mentioned, next to a south asian grocer (owned by the sister of the woman running Zaika) and a few other interesting shops. This is an area growing up quickly! When I first entered Zaika I was worried it would be all style and no substance. This is not the case at all. The food is well flavoured with fresh ingredients. Even their buffet is top notch: no dry, gloppy, recycled foods here. There are old favourites, but also some new dishes that may be new to you, or twists on those old favourites. I finally made it back (for only the second time) for Zaika's lunch buffet to celebrate a birthday. There were 6 of us total and all of us, of course, went with the buffet. Price is very reasonable ($14/person) and the menu has something for everyone. BONUS: For those people that are gluten free/can't eat eggs/whatever, you can eat pretty much everything that they offer. Just ask the hostess or one of the waitresses. They were even so nice to make my sister a gluten free/egg free roti! Amazing. Anyways, everything we tried was delicious. I really enjoyed the potato cakes (nice bit of spicyness to it), tandoor chicken (super tender), fish pakoras, curry goat, butter chicken, naan bread (don't get too many as it gets cold quick). There was also an eggplant dish, yellow daal, spicy chickpeas, two types of rice and a soup of the day. If you still need more food, they have a salad and dessert area. Mango pudding was SO good and fruit was a nice way to finish off the meal. Excellent, awesome place for Indian! When it comes to atmosphere and looks, Zaika has hit the nail on the head. From the moment I walked in the mood was very relaxed and welcoming. I could instantly tell that there was a lot of thought put into the design of this restaurant and it paid off. It has a very classy, urban design that keeps things simple. Like most Indian restaurants the menu has a better than average butter chicken but I was impressed by the mint chicken. It was something that is not normally found at these types of places. The food is priced fairly and no price on the menu struck me as over the top. The dining area and the lounge are divided by 2 midsized walls and have a buffet table in between them. I specifically enjoyed the lounge. It is the perfect size and allows you to feel comfortable. The staff was very pleasant to deal with and they did their best to make sure everything was perfect. The bartender/owner Shawn is really outgoing and makes you feel at home. Be careful though he can smooth talk you into drinking more than you want! My few concerns are that it is located in a bit of an industrial area but it looks like there are other restaurants and stores going up around it immediately, so it's not that big of a deal. I would also like to see a few finger friendly items in the appetizers (ie. nachos, wings etc.) for people just hanging out. They do have wings on the menu but they need some work. Parking can get tight in evenings as there are other dining locations in that same area. Came with a group of 20 without reservations before 6pm on a weekend, and we were seated immediately. Modern decor, slightly dim, states to be child friendly, but there wasn't a change table in the washrooms and only a couple of high chairs. We were seated in the bar area that had a long bench which was able to seat lots of kids and my little one didn't need a booster. Women's washroom was very clean & stylish despite being extremely dark inside. Looks like there was supposed to be a TV in the washroom, but it wasn't on. Bar had a few TVs playing sports channels. Buffet is a round table with plenty of food options from paneer, chicken, lamb, fish & vegetarian with dessert and salad bar at the back row. Kitchen constantly kept refilling the food & keeping everything fresh. Food tasted really good, but I'd avoid this place if you're not accustomed to spicy heat as all the kids at our table complained that most of the food was too spicy and only ate plain rice, naan, a bit of salad & dessert. However, kids aged 3 & under eat free, so I don't feel like my money was wasted. Server was attentive, constantly clearing dishes from our table and refilling water glasses. I don't have a lot of experience with Indian food, so Zaika was a delight! Their buffet has a variety of foods, both hot and cold. It was great being able to take little samplers and test everything out. I fell in LOVE with the spinach paneer (I think?). It was so yummy and creamy and I wish my stomach was larger and could fit more in. Prices are very reasonable. For an adult buffet, it was only $23/person. Which is cheap compared to some other all you can eat places and you leave Zaika feeling FULL. I'll be back next time I'm down south! read more

Marvelous Indian buffet restaurant. The buffet is well stocked with many tasty items to choose from. There is even a fruit/salad/dessert bar. The food quality is quite good for the $23 price tag (one of the best rates for a good buffet in the city). I always load my plate up and need to head back for the butter chicken.....which I usually regret because I am overfull and their butter chicken is one of the only item menus sort of lacking. Awesome lunch buffet, and fairly inexpensive at about $15 per person. The staff are friendly, the atmosphere is great, and the food is delicious. They seem to change up some of the buffet dishes from time to time, but there's always something I really enjoy, and their naan is better than most other Indian restaurants I've been to! They also have really good pudding/custard for dessert! If I had to point out some faults: if you're not sitting in one of the booths, the tables are a bit dark. The washrooms are also a bit dimly lit and odd in general. If you like Indian food, this is definitely a good place to try. read more

Zaika is one of my favourite Indian restaurants in the city. I'm sad that it's so far away from the downtown, but that's about the only thing it has going against it. The interior decor of Zaika is modern and inviting- it has the dark feeling of many Indian restaurants, but the colour scheme, art and glass chandeliers are appealing to the modern audience. Zaika's lunch buffet has yet to disappoint- favourites include the always-fresh soup of the day, butter chicken, potato cakes and of course the garlic naan bread. The dessert buffet is typical of most Indian buffets, but tasty and fresh nonetheless. The service always seems to be be very attentive, with regular water refills and table clearings. The only thing that would make me love Zaika more is for them to open a location closer to the centre of Edmonton! read more

From the uber hip and modern art to the lounge-type seating, I would never expect to be going up for my third, fourth plate of buffet food. I expect to be heavily charged for my moderately sized meals (I'm looking at YOU, GURU) but oddly enough, I paid the usually amount for eating at an East Indian Buffet. The tandori chicken was flavorful. Fried fish was your usual affair. Naan and butter chicken was an instant winner for thirds and fourth. Their drink menu is of the lounge-y affair with flirtatious names but the taste lived up to the name. I had the mango lassi which is mango mixed with yogurt drink. Perfect compliment to a medium spicy meal. This has to be my favorite place to eat East Indian food. We had gone during the summer and they really had an off night. My sister spoke to the owner and she apologised for that. So we decided to try again on Christmas Eve for our family dinner - which we normally do every Eve If you haven't been to Zaika, I will note that it's busy even on Christmas Eve! Our service was excellent, we had about 40-50 people there and were very well taken care of. The food was back to the superior level that we were used to eating at Zaika. I LOVE Zaika!!! If you are looking for a great Indian restaurant then look no more! I am so thankful that it is located super conveniently for me, just off 91 street, south of the Anthony Henday. I frequently go in and pick up their 'to go' boxes, where you fill a box from the buffet and take it to go. It is very reasonably priced. The only problem I find with eating in is that I OVERSTUFF myself because the food is so good. Do yourself a favor, try a little of everything... even if you aren't sure what it is - it will be delicious. read more

The buffet is amazing - if you are lucky their trademark mango chicken will appear once in a while- and the decor is nice, comfortable yet hip. They have one of the tasier Indian buffets in Edmonton that I've tried recently. The place is swanky on the outside and the inside, very different then many other Indian restaurants in Edmonton. If you go for the buffet, it's well organized and maintained. Located at the centre of the restaurant, it's organized in a circle, well labelled, with staff constantly cleaning and refilling the buffet station. The dishes are slightly on the spicier side, but are well seasoned with a good flavor otherwise. Be warned almost every sauce is quite creamy and rich tasting, so it fills you up quickly. The only hiccup was while paying the bill. They said they would bring the wireless debit machine over, but returned saying it was out of batteries and we would have to go to the front. When we went to the front, they were utilizing the wireless debit machine which was not out of batteries, as opposed to the wired one attached to the computer. They also tried charging us for 3 adult buffets when we only had 2, even though I presented our bill to them. Then when they finally punched in 2 adult buffets, the 15% service charge they had tacked onto our bill as we were a large group was somehow tripled. Least to say, it took a while to convince them to add the amounts manually to prove that they were charging us too much. So if you go, go for the food and be prepared for some less than desirable service. read more
