When I went into Islamorada Fish Company I was completely aghast with amazement to see the Zane Grey Long Key Lounge. The rich club like décor I am guessing was inspired by the Long Key Fishing Camp built by none other than Henry Flagler and a favorite stay of Zane Grey. Until I read Grey's 1919 "Tales of Fishing," I had no idea of his interests in fishing and generally attributed all of his writings as boing and rather mediocre westerns. But in fact he established the legendary "GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP Does Not Consist in A BIG CATCH. But in The Use Of Light Tackle and a REASONABLE CATCH" moto. He also implemented the world's first catch limits and catch and release programs. But of all fishing, his obsession was with Bonefish of which he wrote: "If I spent another month bonefishing, I would become obsessed and lose my enthusiasm for other kinds of fish. Why? My reasons range from the exceedingly graceful beauty of the bonefish to the fact that he is the wisest, shyest, wariest, strangest fish I have ever studied . . . As for the speed of the bonefish, I claim no salmon, no barracuda, no other fish celebrated for swiftness of motion, is in his class. As for the strength of the bonefish, I actually hesitate to give my impressions. As for his cunning, it is utterly baffling. As for his biting, it is almost imperceptible. As for his tactics, they are beyond conjecture." So, if you have a love of the Keys, its history, unsurpassable water views, good food and good service, a stop at Zane Grey Long Key Lounge is a Five Star must. Oh, and when I was there I had, and would suggest you try their Signature Margarita, and by all means, their Smoked Wahoo Dip which really has the true taste of the Keys. read more

This is a great hidden gem! The restaurant is located on the second floor of a Bass Pro Shop. It has an amazing view of the water. The service was friendly, and you can't beat the happy hour menu! The prices for drinks and delicious seafood are hard to beat! There are also chickens running around below and sometimes, Fred and Wilma make an appearance on the second floor- adds to the fun atmosphere and flair of the place. Great to visit at least once and enjoy the island vibe. read more

If they fix these two details you have a 4-5 star spot! After posting this we hung out at the bar, and a waitress explained the restaurant next door had sent them a lot of people since their system was down, and this restaurant wasn't ready for it staff/ bar wise... This is the best homage to Zane Grey, who's early 1900's published accounts of Keys' fishing are believed to have influenced Hemingway. There is a display case with museum quality artifacts of Zane Grey's time in Islamorada. Wood paneled walls and a second floor view of the sunset over the far Everglades are really special for enjoying a drink. They're good pours. I wasn't impressed with the unimaginative apps. A bowl of chunk cheese & that's that. Or the requirement to both arrive and exit through an angler's bloated gift shop. The ride up in a fine glass caged elevator with an inlaid wood marlin on the floor was a treat. read more

If you have a small group and don't mind not sitting right on the water, skip the Islamorada Fish Company and head upstairs Bass Pro Shop to Zane Grey. We sat outside on the patio and enjoyed a better view of the sunset. We only had drinks, but they had the same food menu as the Fish Company. Their bar is Top Shelf! They stocked a Bourbon that I've only found at one other bar since I moved to South Florida. If you are into cigars and Cognac, they have a humidor and some cognac's I've never even heard of. One was $240 for a 2oz pour!! They also had about 12 different types of Scotch. We will be back often. Their sign said they were open until ?, we left at 9pm and it was just starting to pick up. read more

Came here to catch the sunset from the balcony and it was spectacular. Monday through Friday from 4-6, they have a great happy hour with $5.50 martinis (get the watermelon!), cheap beer and wine, and good appetizers, like coconut shrimp for $1.25 each, minimum of six. They were big, crispy and came with an apricot horseradish dip, like Outback Steakhouse. They also do cheap wings (.75 each), Jalapeño poppers (.75 each), conch fritters ($1 each) or an onion ring tower for $4.95. We had great service, great apps, delicious cocktails and a fantastic view. read more

Apparently this bar closes before 8pm. While waiting on a table at the attached restaurant (which was a two hour wait) we came upstairs to this lounge to have few drinks and relax while waiting. We were first told we couldn't sit inside sit it was late. No big deal. We wanted to sit outside anyways. And that was plate to fine. We all sit outside and the quarrels come five minutes later to say the manage told her she couldn't serve us at all. So basically a great view and great place with terrible service. read more

Had lunch there with a party of 6. Beautiful view from the breezy second floor porch around back. We got a table in the corner, where the guy who was bussing seemed to hang out and stare at us a lot. Everyone ordered, and my husband asked for Splenda for his ice tea - twice. Finally, we got up and got it ourselves. When the food came, there was a long, curly hair in the shrimp salad. Rest of the sandwiches were OK, but my friend with the salad didn't want to eat anything else at that point. Obviously, we sent the salad back, but we had to get the busser to track down the waitress. She brought out the manager to talk to us. He was apologetic, removed the charge for the salad, and gave us a discount. The reason I am giving 2 stars and not one is because at least he did the right thing. read more

A great place to take a break on the drive to or from Miami. Magnificent view and the added bonus of generally being high enough up to avoid the summer bugs. Bar tenders know how to make a perfect martini. Great decor if you like the old-school London club reading room / bar (I do). Service runs the gamut of great to deplorable on what seems to be a daily basis, with no way to predict which one you get. We must have came on a bad day. Service was very slow and our server had this discussed look on her face the whole time. It wasn't very busy. We ordered the lobster sandwich on a croissant. It was very tasteless. Bad choice on our part. We will not return. read more

This is a really cool lounge. The balcony seating probably has a very nice sunset. I didn't try the food though, so I can't comment on that.

All I can say is it took us 30 minutes to get a beer. The bartender did come up and apologized saying that she had to change the kegs after the fact. 2 seconds after we got our beer we got our food order. The food was excellent really hit the spot. It took us forever to order a second beer and even longer to get our check. The poor bartender was running the whole show upstairs and obviously not able to handle three tables and four people at the bar. My advice to you is to hire a waitress. Somebody polite and nice that obviously wants to work there. The apathetic attitude of the bartender was a little much. read more

We read the reviews and were prepared for a beautiful view but indifferent service and food. That was FAR from the case! We seated ourselves and were promptly given menus by Amanda. She was attentive, friendly and skilled. We were not particularly hungry but ordered the conch fritters and enjoyed them (spicy, but a bit mushy inside). After two drinks each, we were pleasantly surprised by the low total on the bill. Overall, we really enjoyed Zane Grey and will return very soon. read more

Had lunch here today. What a disappointment. The food took forever and there was only two other tables sat. We both got a hogfish sandwich. The lettuce on my sandwich was old and brown. The bun was so soggy it was falling apart. It was over $50 for crappy food. We won't be going back, that is for sure. read more

I have to admit that some of the reviews about service were on target. The waitress wasn't the best and the food was pretty average. That being said, we had a really great time. The veranda was beautiful with a view that's tough to beat and an incredible sunset. They also had a pretty good two piece band that made the experience even better. Food was ok. Had fish tacos. They were good but not great. But you just can't beat the view from the islamorada Fish House. Also had a Bahama Mama and the drink was really good especially for down here in the keys where they tend to be overpriced and watered down. Tried to eat here for lunch...only one bartender and one waitress..granted we were warned but we sat for 15 minutes and were only given menus....no water or anything..the veranda was fairly busy but many without food and then 8-10 people arrived at the bar...a 2-top who had been sitting prior to our arrival left 5 min before we did...the menu had changed from the dated longstanding one and did have some appealing items but super pricey..and not sure how they would taste...and we will never know..we got up and left and dined next door at Morada Bay and had a fabulous time...sorry Bass Pro and Zane Grey Lounge...with a multi million dollar corporation backing you you should have adequate staff especially in season...and try smiling and attending to patrons who are willing to spend$$ both in the store and dining establishments....there are many other great places to eat and shop in Islamorada!!!..and I will be there!!..Will NOT be back.... read more
