Bought some food for the family and unfortunately we were missing some items from our order and didn't notice until we got home. Fine, I get it mistakes happen. We called and were able to figure it out. Although the staff were extremely apologetic and helpful, the actual food was... not great. One of our plates had the salad touching the meat and made it warm. The roast chicken was stringy and dry, not very worth the price. Kabob was good. At that point we didn't want to call back again, since we already had the mix up and didn't want to bother any longer. Will be back for our missing items and see if it's any better. If I could give 2.5 stars I would but leaving it at 3 for now. read more

I came where to order food for a work meeting and everyone seemed to like the food. Ambiance was clean, plenty of seats and decent price for the food. In a word...BLAND. I have heard about Zankou Chicken for years. I know it is a favorite of Adam Carolla's. Tonight, we decided to try it out for the first time. We ordered the family meal. The garden salad was good, but did not come with any dressing. The Chicken however was tasteless. Now I know why people rave about the garlic sauce, because it is the only way to enhance the flavor. (honestly, the garlic dip from Trader Joe's is better). Should I ever go back, I may try the beef, but will steer clear of the Chicken. We would rather eat at El Pollo Loco. Chicken tarna has too much fat, isnt crispy enough, is lacking flavor, and has this undesirable chewy/rubbery consistency. Hummus and tabouleh flavors are also bland. Zankou is a staple in my household. I usually go to the one in Anaheim, but this location is closer so I'm so glad they are open! The food was great as always. Fresh and not oily. I've tried other Mediterranean food places, but for some reason, none of them satisfies my appetite like Zankou. Service was great, you can tell the employees are new, but trying to give good, quality customer service. The vibe inside is somewhat modern, definitely more modern than the Anaheim location. It's finally happened- Zankou Chicken opened in Long Beach right off the 405 at the Lakewood Exit! I am so excited as this place is only a few miles from the house and a mile away from Browning High, and look- we already have an incredible Alumni working there, Katie! And while waiting for another teacher friend to arrive, I even ran into one of my current Browning students with her parents- it was like a whole Browning hangout/reunion! Of course the service was great (I'm biased, Katie is my "baby" what can I say), but honestly, even before I got to the counter, I could see how all of the members taking orders were smiling and socializing with the guests; and truly The food is solid, and consistent! The half chicken was so juicy, tender and flavorful; just as I had remembered it. We also tried the tri-tip shawarma plate which was piled high with crispy tender shavings of beef on a bed of lettuce, onions and tomatoes that I layered onto thin Lebanese pita bread with dollops of garlic sauce, and shmears of humus and mutabbal. And we couldn't leave without trying the kabob, so we got the combo. Grilled to order marinated beef and chicken kabobs sat atop some buttery, fluffy basmati rice that surprised all at the table. My favorite- which shocked this red meat eater- was the chicken kabob; the pieces were so tender and flavorful- I just wish they had a little more of a sear on them with crispy edges, but it was made to order and quite busy with new staff. The food at this LB location is fantastic and would ordinarily get 5 stars from me. But they insist on maintaining the temperature at about 60 degrees inside, maybe lower.
