We went with bowls and chose between white rice, brown rice and noodles. For proteins they offer chicken, steak, meatballs (chicken/pork) and tofu. We chose teriyaki sauce and chicken but they had several other options. Then you choose from a selection of vegetables and other toppings to round out your bowl. There are a few times I felt like the way I did on my first trip to Zao. One was when I had my wisdom teeth pulled and because the drugs were so heavy, the doctor made welcome to my back pocket and took my money. The other is every time I go buy a car at a dealership. You know the feeling. You know it's going to cost something but when the experience is over you somehow feel violated by the experience. In this case, I picked a bowl, they guided me through the choices and before I knew what hit me the cashier was asking for my right leg as payment! This is probably one of my favorite places to get a fresh and quick meal! I absolutely love their chicken salad and their chicken rice bowl! I like that they have brown rice as an option and lots of yummy veggies to put on it! The salad dressing is also really good! Zao reminds me a bit of an Asian chipotle. 4-5 dishes that can be mix and matched with different ingredients to make each dish your own. I ordered a bowl with white rice, tofu, yellow curry sauce and various toppings. It has a good kick, lots of flavor and is super filling. They have great vegan options too, which I feel is sometimes hard to find in Utah county. Overall, a really good place to go for lunch or dinner. read more

Got the rice bowl, super yummy. Clean, crisp and fresh. I got all the toppings except fried onions and peanuts, with the green curry sauce. They said that the green curry sauce was the spiciest but to me it wasn't spicy at all just an amazing flavor. After eating here you leave feeling great, not sluggish from eating crap. Honestly couldn't get fresher ingredients. I also appreciate that they have a sign on the windows that inform customers that there are peanuts in the restaurant, I am not allergic myself but know people who are and this is very helpful when trying to find a safe restaurant. read more

Zao's is really good if you go when they're not busy. Every time I go and there's a rush the service Has not been very friendly and anytime I ask for extra sauce even if I say I'll pay for it they get really annoyed and only filled up my sauce half way. There's been times I go and it's amazing but honestly I've had a couple not so pleasant workers there that are so rushed maybe cause they're short staffed but it's happened more than once so that's why I'm writing this review. I won't stop going back I'll just pick less busy times I guess. But really they should be trained and ready for rushes. read more

I went to this place twice and enjoyed it (3/5 stars, nothing spectacular, suitable and seemingly consistent), but the third time I was confronted by rude, clueless employees and dealt with flavorless, mediocre food. I ordered a salad, and the girl was putting such a minute amount of lettuce and chicken that I had to ask for more--I was basing the portion size off of my prior experiences, so I don't think it unreasonable to ask for consistency. The girl snottily obliged, and once I asked for asparagus, she put two pieces, literally two tiny pieces on, and I kindly asked her if she could put more. She did, and then she said I would be charged extra. For what? Extra asparagus? I disputed it because nowhere on the menu does it say that I would be charged for asking for extra vegetables on a SALAD. The large/rotund girl at the register gave me such an attitude that I said this would be my last time. This type of crap would never fly in California, New York or any real, relevant market. And on top of that, the chicken was dry as a bone and the lettuce tasted soiled and everything was soggy. Save yourself the time and disappointment and go across the street to Aubergine for actually healthy and consistent food. read more
