The store manager was extremely rude accusing me of wearing a pair of pants that I just bought and needed a smaller size. I wasn't even trying to return them-just exchange. Worst customer service! My rating is 0 stars but yelp doesn't let me. I have items from multiple online and in store orders to return. My dress size has changed recently so I was ordering clothes at different sizes online and keep the ones that fit me. The sale woman at the register did not look pleased and apparently showed her ungrateful sighs the whole time. Near the end, the line got so long because the other register was working with a large purchase. To make the matter worse, she was calling for help to another sale associate nearby saying out loud I got a big return here. I don't see any point of her saying that. I have been wearing Zara clothes before they entered the US markets. I have been to their stores all over the world and the US and i have to say either something has drastically changed in their company culture on the customer service, or the 2 shops in Chicago would get the medal of WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE!! I am baffled and astonished as how they can get away with it! I had a return with no reciept and after the cashier called their managers, she just had to say (by close talking and over doing her words) that I can only do an exchange! HUM! OK!!!! why did I have to wait more than 7 minutes for the manager to be dragged to teh front desk!? if that is the policy why wouldn't the cashier just tell me?! It was so shocking that I thought maybe it is some sort of practical joke!!! This is where I get confused as I can't assume that the Chicago mediocrity of customer service is not a companywide culture. The Chicago staff (at both stores) seem to operate in their own world. They have zero connection with the customer. There is no human connection. The way they interact makes the client feel as if they are asking for the impossible. The staff is cold, ineffective, and on one occasion last night, the cashier had to call her manager for the simplest and most obvious matter. I had an item to return/exchange but had no receipt. She called the manager twice, took 10 mintues for the manager to come down to tell me: "We don't refund an item without a receipt, you need to pick an exchange right now and not later." Why did the cashier just not tell me that? Isn't that the store policy? or is it a case-by-case decision? Either way why didn't the cashier just explain why she had to call her manager and make me wait? Machine-like treatments do not work in our world of today, even on the internet you get a human being chatting with you on retail sites! why are the staff in Chicago Zara stores so out of touch? so remote and so unhelpful? The staff here has an attitude, is rude and arrogant, and rarely use their judgment. I ask you, is the staff in Chicago treated differently than their peers in other cities? is something different in the Chicago stores' culture? Please help me understand. Many of the Yelpers below write about the rudeness of the sales associates.After my interaction today, I would not say that they are rude, but rather incompetent. I brought in a scarf that a friend purchased for me online as a Christmas gift. It was a thoughtful gift, but I wanted to exchange for something else. As I approached the till, I very clearly told the sales associate that I wanted to exchange my scarf. So what does he do? He refunds the entire purchase...back to my friend's credit card! And now the store manager is telling me that there is nothing she can do once a refund is issued. My friend will receive an email notifying her of the refund and she will see it in her credit card statement. She kept apologizing for how embarrassing this is for me. I am slightly embarrassed, but I am more embarrassed for the store that they can't teach their associates the difference between a refund and an exchange. read more

I LOVE the fashions and clothes here. I shop here for myself (late 20s female), my baby, and my husband. We all find amazing styles that we love here, and the quality is decent. Its not high end and its not cheap like H&M. Prices are fair. I do need to note that the service here is pretty lacking. Every time i am in the kids section, there is no cashier and very few sizes are ever out, so when I need to ask about other sizes available they look at me like I am bothering them or something. This has happened the past 2 times I went. Today I went to the cashier and asked if they can check a size for me, they paged the manager and she asked me if I checked at the kids sections first. Then instead of going ahead and helping me the MANAGER told the cashier to tell the chidlrens dept to check. I know she's probably trying to get other employees to do their job but it shouldn't be at a customers expense and make them wait. I waited at the desk for about 20 minutes for that and a pant size check. I wanted the pant size when I was in the fitting room but nobody checked and asked if I needed assistance. Every single employee that I interacted with was pissed off about something and did not look happy to help me. So id rather shop elsewhere bc with a baby and limited time to find what I need, I cannot afford to wait, look for help, search for sizes, etc. I can get that experience at Marshalls or TJ MAxx but at much lower prices! read more

Worst customer service EVER! I have been there 3 times in the last 3 weeks to purchase and return baby clothes and it takes me at least 30 minutes to check out. The staff seems to just mosey along and take their time (a little chitter chatter here and there with other staff members). A manager had to approve my return today and I mentioned how long the wait has been and she could have CARED less. That's it for me ZARA - you should have kept a good thing going and stayed in Europe. Quality was much better and customer service was stellar. Unhappy with N. Michigan avenue store and customer service- at checkout prior to purchasing I asked clerk if items were exchangeable/returnable online because the only stores near me were 2 1/2 or4 hours from my home. I was assured by the cashier that everything I was purchasing could be returned or exchanged on Zara.com. That turned out not to be the case and customer service both for the online and store were not any more helpful to remedy the situation even when offering to pay for shipping. So, if you purchase clothing here and don't live near a store, just know that they are not returnable online/through the mail if purchased in store no matter what the clerk tells you. Like the clothing, but their customer service just full of empty words and a waste of time calling. They ought to just delete the department, they are not helpful at all. i really like the clothes here, as they are slightly more unique than that of H&M and seem to be better quality, but that is yet to be determined. The prices, however, are a little steep for what you get. Too bad that the customer service is absolutely ATROCIOUS or you may have gotten a great review. The bitchy queens who work in the mens department are laughable at best. Poor things. Hmmmm. Went on the opening day. Raining and muggy outside which meant the store was just as hot (not really their fault since AC season is over) Anyway, store laid out nicely; not too crammed but long lines for fitting room & checkout. Ok, went to return some items the following day that didn't work out. Wow, they need to change the process of returns (15 agonizing mins) plus the sales associates all seem like they are clueless; not throughly trained; & major lack of customer service. So bad I question whether I'll return because I was anxious of the store opening since I've visited one abroad. Hope they get it together. Prices are decent & clothes are cute. I have been a fan of Zara for a long time. However, I recently made an online purchase of a few sale items. After being informed by Zara Customer Service that the online order did not get processed, they refused to honor the purchase stating that the "sale is now over" despite the fact that the order was placed within the sale dates. This ZARA location has horrendous business practices in customer service. I was highly disappointed in the type of response I received when attempting to purchase a coat at ZARA today. It was a very simple request: here's the coat, the size, the color and my AMEX card. Unfortunately, not a single clerk answering the phone at the Michigan Ave. store in Chicago, IL USA, nor State Street Store, Chicago, IL USA, or Skokie, IL USA would take my order??!! At first I thought the salesperson was joking, because I have never in my life been treated so poorly by a sales associate or declined assistance when asking if the store had the correct size. Apparently, the store won't look up an item for you because they are " too busy". Also, if an item such as a coat was marked down after Christmas, the associate will not look for the item even if you would like to purchase it while on the phone! I didn't bother to tell them, I was actually a shareholder in ZARA stock, but I did purchase a similar coat from their competitor down the street! Very Disappointing experience! It does not seem to matter which location you are in either... I was in the Scottsdale AZ store recently and Oak Brook, IL- both are pitiful. The line in AZ was 30 minutes long to return 1 item! As well, I called the corporate office searching for an item on line and was given the worst service ever. Had to call each individual store myself and each one was a very unpleasant experience. No stars if that was an option. "Cecilia" was incredibly rude. Love Zara but this location almost makes dislike Zara for having employees with such bad customer service. Not exaggerating but this was my experience. I came up to pay with my card. She stated the total and I inserted my chip card into the machine. She then said its in the wrong machine (should have given the customer directions because who would have known). Ok fine, so I stuck it into the janky machine next to the bigger one. It said, "remove card", so I did. She then said somewhere along the lines with the snottiest tone, "You need to leave your card for the entire transaction until it says REMOVE CARD". Well duh. I know that. So then I put it back in again but this time I accidentally did not insert the chip side. She clearly got annoyed and said, "Now I have to start the whole system over again". I get it, it's upsetting but still not the end of the world and should still give top notch customer service. She then waited for the machine to start up and was slamming drawers, punching stuff on her screen so hard that it was tipping backwards, etc. She then shoved my card back in, printed the receipt and handed me my card without even looking so I couldn't even get it properly. Then threw my bag over the counter. ZERO WORDS. I didn't know when I was done. Then I realized I was after a phew seconds. I asked for her name because I was so upset. She stated "Cecilia". Maybe it's true, idk. But seriously, boohoo for you if you can't do your job properly. I don't care how bad your day or life is, you should not be disrespecting other people like that. Either Zara is treating their employees badly or they just hire the most rude, oblivious, and unfriendly humans. You need to do something about this Zara. I would not shop at the Zara on Michigan avenue. The staff and employees are not friendly. I wanted to buy a top that was a little damaged. The staff refused to sell me the top. Next day, I found a bunch of those similar tops- damaged and up for sale but they were not my size. When I approached the manager, she was indifferent and didn't even bother to check to see if the top from yesterday was still there or if she could get me my size. She also made no effort to find out why the check out staff did not sell me the top the other day. Over all, not a fan. Until I went in I bought about $200 worth of clothes.I paid cash and put the money in the cashiers hand she put my change and receipt on the counter and pushed it towards me on the counter! I went back to work and called and spoke to a Manager that made an excuse that the young lady was new and she was trained properly and she apologized. I used to LOVE ZARA in New York, low prices for really stylish items. Although I havent been to a Zara since leaving NY 2 years ago, I was excited for it to come to Michigan Ave. and visited a month or so after it opened. What a disappointment! Although the layout and store is beautiful, the prices have skyrocketed (if I want a $160 blazer, Ill wait for a properly made Ralph Lauren one to go on sale!) and the quality is dismal. Most of the shoes and even some of the clothing I checked out was glued together, not sewn, which means it will fall apart rather quickly. Even some of the sequin skirts which are ever so popular right now were unraveling on their hangers. The one decent thing I found was a great over sized sweater for around $30 but upon closer inspection the sweater, and its counterparts, all already had some pulls. This place is an optical illusion and is way overpriced for its shoddy construction. Steer clear or your closet will pay later. read more

3pm out time on Christmas Eve is hard fast and rude. But closing time is closing time regardless if something is on hold. That was my experience at 3:18p. I had been at the Oak Brook location but the Christmas present I wanted to purchase was out of stock. They put it on hold at the Block 37 location and I drive downtown, paid for parking and ran to the store with my daughter. It was locked. I called from outside the doors and the young lady was trying to be helpful. However her manager Lauren got on the phone, refusing to acknowledge I was standing 20 feet away outside and was rude. I mean unbelievably rude. She did acknowledge they had my present on hold but she refused to open the door for me. Then to add to insult, the day after Christmas my wife went into purchase the bag and it wasn't there!! My wife approached Lauren and she said a similar bag was "mislabeled" and wouldn't sell it to her!! I am not the type to Yelp or go after someone as I'm in customer service (I'm GM of a multimillion dollar restaurant company) so I understand mistakes. But the manager Lauren was so overwhelmingly rude and insulting I have to post this. Btw the staff mentioned to my wife that this type of attitude from Lauren is par for the course. i have neve written a review on anything because even in the worse situations i can always find a good in my shopping experience, unfortunately this was not the case for Zara. today 1-13-2013 I called looking for a basket bag for 79.90 i talked to Victor,Ashley and one more sasles associate before i actually got through to one who finally checked for me. the fact that i had to call 3 different times upset me but i quickly got over it. when the last sales associate said they had it i asked her to set it aside for me she asked the color and i told her i would be there in 5 min because i literally work a block away. She said ok and hung up the phone. i didnt catch her name nor did she ask for mine. so i walked to zara and when i got there i quickly realized this would not be a fun shopping experince. i went to a sales associate asking for my bag and one the girl never put it aside so i had to wait for them to find it. when the girl on the phone came up with the bag she handed it to me and that was that, no hello nothing. i stayed for another 10 min and when i finally was ready to check out i went downstairs and was disgusted by the behavior i saw. both cashiers were busy so i waited in line ( no biggie) but what i assume was a manager or assistant manager ( and i only assume she was because she was the one signing the cashiers slips of some sort) was all over an older gentleman flirting with him her boobs almost in his face and the cashier taking her time with him giggling and flirting as well.. meanwhwile the one i believe is the manager or assistant manager is looking at me up and down. i smiled at her trying to be polite and all i recieved was a cold stare no hello no smile, nothing. finally she moved and it was my turn to pay the cashier didnt greet me didnt say how my shopping experience went not like i was expectiong her to anyway. at the end i didnt get a have a good day or thank you for shopping with us.. if i didnt like that bag so much i wouldve thrown it at them but with that being said i will no longer shop with zara not even online its so upsetting that they actually hire girls like that.. i myself work in retail luxury retail to be correct a block away from them and the fact that i saw this, it's digusting in a shoppers point of view and as a person who is a sales associate. read more

My experience tonight was absolutely discouraging. I went into the store with intentions to SHOP! The merchandise is great-for women,child and men. With that being said I came in with my husband and child. In the middle of our shopping my child had to use the restroom. I asked an employee where the restroom was and she said "don't have one" and walked away. I went to meet my husband on the top floor and requested the manager. Once the manager came I asked her if my child could use the restroom because it was an emergency. She said "sorry but no because our stock is there and it's for employees" I come from a retail background and we also had a policy as far as customers using our restrooms. We made exceptions for expecting mothers and children. I was hoping for the same appreciated customer service but there was none to be found. The manager went on about how it's store policy and that only the GM could over rule that-I requested the GM-the manager said " I don't know where he is. " I can't lie I was EXTREMELY upset. Here my son had to use the restroom and the manager who clearly has the power to walk us through the stockroom was being completely incompetent. I understand they can't do this for every customer but literally we were the last customers of the day. Give it a break We left and will not be shopping at this location. read more
