I visited Zara at the FIGat7th location in Los Angeles on Thursday, January 22, at approximately 2:15 PM (Pacific Standard Time) to return or exchange a Christmas gift (shirt) that didn't fit. Unfortunately, I did not have the gift receipt, and the original purchaser's phone number could not be located in the system. I was told that without a receipt, phone number, or account lookup, there were no options available -- not even an exchange or store credit. What made the experience especially disappointing was not the policy itself, but how it was communicated. When I expressed concern, the associate stated that the policy had changed three years ago, implying that I should have known this. As a customer, that felt dismissive -- I don't work here, and policies like this aren't always obvious. When I suggested that customer feedback should be shared with management, particularly since policies are often shaped by in-store experiences, the response was simply, "I just work here," with no acknowledgment or empathy for the situation. I fully understand that employees must follow company policy. However, I would expect a brand like Zara to train staff to show basic empathy, take some ownership of the customer experience, and communicate policies with professionalism and understanding. Bought a coat for my daughter in late November as a Christmas gift as I like to do my shopping early. She received it on Christmas day and unfortunately the color was not what was shown on Zara's website. We made a special trip to L.A. (drove almost four hours) to return the coat. Unfortunately we were 2 days past the 30 day return time becauseI had bought it so early. We tried to explain the situation ( it was purchased early as a Christmas gift, the color was not as represented) but were met with a snarky, rude sales associate whose only response was that there was nothing he could do. I had a wonder and easy time picking up my online order. I placed an order online to pick up at this location. I went in and headed for the kids department. I was greeted by a team member (didn't get his name but he is training to do visual) He didn't have any problems locating my order. This is the second time I'm being met with disrespect at Zara by store manager Wendy. Before she even knows the matter she comes with a terrible attitude and energy. I tried to return a defected item (within 30 days from I bought it) she disregard me with disrespect and disgust and didn't listen or take any concern to my problem. ::le sigh:: I am a (for the most part) satisfied customer of Zara. My sister-in-law had a travel scent of Twilight Mauve. I was sold the instant I smelled it, so I went to the store to buy...Friday afternoon, I purchased a 2 pk of Twilight Mauve and Femme not realizing the volume was 100 ml. As I walked out the store excited for my purchase I opened the packaging and found it was huge! And I didn't care for the Femme scent. I was tired after waiting in a long line and proceeded home, thinking I would just return it the next day. The next day, Saturday, not even 24 hours later, literally around noon I was told by the cashier I could not return it because I opened the plastic. I tried to explain I would gladly exchange, "no but I can get a manager." I asked what could a manager do? I purchased this not even more than 24 hours ago, I haven't touched the perfume except to examine the size, she replies "let me call a manager." "Sam" the Operations Manager, hears my story and quickly says "there's nothing I can do today." I explain again that yesterday there was a long line, the cashier was quickly getting people checked out, they did NOT explain that perfume has a specific and separate return policy. I also describe the setting of the store the previous day when I was basically rushed out and the cashier SHOULD preface "special" purchases with DIFFERENT return policies. Zara's return policy is simple (return with original receipt) with the exception of perfume--don't you think if someone is buying that they should know. If your a lover of this store and shopped in this store then you must have heard about the issues they had regarding prices. Most of the stores in Los Angeles, if not all, was accused of jacking up their prices. Of course, when we shop, we don't think much of paying for an item that's five or ten dollars more. This location ripped off so many of their customers. I am pretty sure I got ripped off a few hundred. Also, the customer service. I never ever had anyone come up to me and ask to help me. And when i usually check out, I feel like I am interrupting a personal conversation between two workers so I am not sure if I should feel bad or not. Plus the people who does check me out usually never ever EVER said "if I found everything alright?" (This is what your usually asked when checking out) or even a smile! Yes, I never seen them smile or greet me! So imagine my surprise when I go to the Glendale location and I am treated the complete opposite from this location. This is one of the worst locations to shop in. The employees here are extremely racist and rude Zara has completely changed from the helpful, inviting, fun shopping place they used to be. I will NEVER give this store any of my money. I used to shop at this store twice a week. I'd go in every Sunday after church and normally have an ok experience. Recently 8/25/2024, I went to this location to purchase a couple of shirts and was aggressively approached by a security agent expressing that one of their employees claimed " I'd stolen from the store before and if it wasn't true then I am ok but if it is true, I should leave the store ". I thought the accusations were completely disgusting because, as someone who frequently shops at this store MOST of the employees know me. I'm always in the store ALWAYS THERE! I asked to speak with a manager (with the shaved head everyone's commenting about. It seems to me that she has a propensity to being rude with guests) She was also rude and then I questioned the employee who always sees me in the store asking him "You see me here all of the time, have I ever stolen anything " The employee shook his head no but was silenced by the aggressive security agent and the " manager on duty ". I was then accused of " pretending to be bigger than I am " by the security agent when I offered to show my bank account which would show they I don't have a reason to steal from Zara. I was then told by the same security agent "Because of how you're acting, I would have to believe that you did steal from us " My question would be "How should one act when they're being accused of stealing from a store IN MY NEIGHBOR that I frequent often?! Am I supposed to be ok with being called a thief? Instead of understanding me, I was falsely accused of stealing, extremely humiliated, and disrespected. If this is how Zara treats their customers, why would anyone want to shop here?! As someone who has worked in retail for most of my career, I was never trained to treat customers with disrespect or walk around accusing people of stealing when they've never done that. I've shopped at Zara ALL AROUND THE WORLD with receipts to prove so. I've been an employee with Zara (2015). I don't have to steal from a place I enjoy shopping at. I absolutely hate the lines at this store. The wait time is always around 40-50min and forget about the return lines. They are always short staff. The poor cashiers are overworked and overwhelmed. The cashier was the the store manager who was training 2 other cashiers while she had this long line to deal with. When it finally was my turn, her computer crashed. She didn't even apologize for the inconvenience. I was standing there for another 15 min for her to restart her computer and re-ring every item. I have been extremely careful about going shopping in certain areas in order to avoid traffic and any type of intolerant behavior. I shop in areas sometimes out of my way because I form a bond with people who have shown me care. I appreciate that I can trust and enjoy my safety while shopping. I have been loyal to stores due to their customer service. I recently shopped with my granddaughter, who is on her way to college, and two women had a dispute over absolutely nothing. Sales brought out the worst in people. I watched as well as many people who were disgusted by the behaviorthe profanity being thrown back and forth along with threats of violence. Women clearly on vacation. Little did we know the manager was informed and heard enough, the manager came out respectful, and said ladies, please keep it down. I normally go to different locations to avoid this type of problem. However, the location is convenient, and the location is amazing to shop. Staff opened fitting room curtain on me and kept it open and walked away while yelling "were closed". I had my headphones in and didn't hear her initially. Yeah maybe I lost track of time and didn't realize it's already 9 but that doesn't mean it's ok to open the curtain while I'm in my bra and walk away leaving the curtain open. I waited 30 minutes to pay for a pair of pants, there was one cashier doing returns and on cashier checking people out and both lines were extremely long. This Zara is hit or miss. The main issue is the employees gossiping and inconsistent customer service. Today for example they were closed 15 minutes before closing hours. Inconsistent business hours create a real inconvenience for loyal customers. This is especially bad during the holiday season. People drive long distances to go to this large location. Numerous employees walked past us more than 5 times throughout our visit, didn't ask if we needed any help, no acknowledgment at all. We stood at the register for 10 minutes while a trainee sat there and told us someone would be with us in a few, nobody ever came, so she asked another employee who walked past us 3 times at the register and she finally came over to the register, then one of the guys who was at the main entrance when we first walked in comes up and takes over, we made our purchase, and left. Despite all the negative reviews about customer service, I have to say this is the cleanest most organized Zara store I've visited...and I've been to most stores in SoCal! This is how I deal with the issue of customer service, be self sufficient! Don't rely on them, have low expectations, and go when it's the least busy time of the day (when they open or when the lunch crowd have left). Oh, be sure to get all your shopping done in under 1 hour with time to VALIDATE then PAY $1. You have approximately 10 mins to get to your car, navigate the structure and be out the exit gate. Otherwise it's $2.50 (2hrs), $4 (3hrs) etc. Of all the Zara's I like this place cuz I always find something to buy. read more
