A nice, intimate restaurant in Park Slope, we came because my daughter has been wanting to try it and we love middle eastern food. Our table shared the lamb sugar and it did not disappoint. Tender and flavorful. Our waiter brought out a second pita to help us finish the dish. The pillowy hummus was wonderful! My husband and I shared a chicken kabob meal and the falafel meal. Both were wonderful. The chicken was marinated and tasted terrific. Likewise, the falafel was really good. Service was good. The tables can be a little tight, but space is at a premium, so to be expected I guess. The table seated after us the back of the man's chair was hitting our table. For the price you would think that the salad would come with some pita bread...but it didn't. The salad was so small that it wasn't filling by no means. Like I had to choke it down a bit. The bottom half of the sandwich was fine so maybe they just need to distribute the sauce better? They also did not give my friend any utensils for his take-out bowl so by the time we got to the park, he couldn't eat his food. Came here for lunch around 1:30pm on a Monday. We're seated right away in the parklette area. It was nicely outfitted with lights, decorations and heat. Inside was full and half of the outside seating was available. Service was quick, on point and they did double check if we wanted more water or needed anything else. Both service area were clean and tidy. Food was served quickly while it was still hot. All was delicious. We ordered a sampler platter and all three varieties of meat were tender, juicy and had its own yummy flavoring. We also ordered a flatbread that was full of flavor and the crust was crunchy, just the right amount of char and salt. We left fully satisfied. It was only until we tried to leave and pay, we had to wait for our check which never came. We had to go inside to the counter and wait in line to pay because our server was helping customers at the counter. Not really her fault that she couldn't get to me but because of their business model some are left with unexpected waits. I would definitely return and i do recommend. Casual 'hole in the wall' sorta place. A friend recommended this for a quick bite while visiting Bushwhack Brooklyn. They have a variety of tea/coffee too. Happy to see lots of vegetarian food options. I chose the falafel sandwich and added feta. I wish I knew they charge and extra $2 for feta! The server never mentioned this when I asked if they could add it. Also, the sandwich can get a bit dry so ask for more tahini sauce on the side to drizzle. Another server came by with some extra tahini and that made the sandwich perfect. A filling meal under $10. Plenty of seating in two sections of the restaurant. They have free wifi. I had been wanting to try Zatar for the longest time and then last night when looking for a place to have dinner with my friend who owns Al Maktoum Goods (417 Seventh Ave), the nearby fair trade African goods store and who only eats halal, Zatar became a great choice. We ate outside on the 8th Avenue side of the restaurant which while having more traffic than the 11th Street side, is less crowded with diners. Being a Sunday night the restaurant while not sold out was nonetheless busy which was a good sign. The waitstaff was friendly and welcoming but as the meal progressed, it became obvious that they are shorthanded resulting in my getting up to get extra napkins (note to restaurant that you probably should automatically give extra napkins when serving shawarma as the table next to ours needed to ask for extras as well) and hot sauce we had requested but had not come. Again, this was not the result of inattention but of the waitstaff having too much to do all at once. Likewise our meals arrived at different times. The food was very good. I had chicken shawarma that was quite tasty. My dining buddy had dijaj that he enjoyed as well. Many of the other dishes on the menu begged a return trip to try. Stopped by for an early dinner while nearby. To begin, they had plenty of outdoor off sidewalk seating and the heat lamps were on! They also had a kids menu and high chairs which now is an important lookout for us. It's also BYOB and has some virgin cocktails on the menu that are quickly made alcoholic if you bring your own alcohol. I split the sampler of dips (Hummus, Babaganoush, and Muhammara with pita) for $12 and got falafel mezze for $7. The Muhammara dip is a tangy eggplant dip and was absolutely delicious with a great hint of spice. All in all - pretty flavorful and good quality for the price. They also do bowls, salads, and sandwiches ranging from $10-20 so there are a ton of options. We tried the chicken nuggets off the kids menu for our child and she was not a big fan, preferring to eat pita and the zatar spiced fries. read more

Being middle eastern I definitely felt at home waking in. Smelling the spices and hearing the music it felt authentic. Plenty of table space to sit indoors or heated outside. Loved the decoration. We came early in the morning so only brunch was being offered. Although the servers were a bit slow coming to the table the service was good. They were even able to let me order something off of the dinner menu - falafel and last minute switch in milk preference to my latte. For meal we had the eggs benezatar which was good - the middle eastern twist was that it was served on pita with zatar and tomato salad. Food was very fresh and tasted great but not mind blowing. Plus a chai adeni to boot. The chai itself: fragrant and not too sweet. The shawarma itself was tender and flavorful with big chunks of chicken. The tzatziki was herb packed and piled high with crunchy vegetables and the halloumi was salty and squeaky! Really, overall, a satisfying lunch. On my way out, got a glance of the pastries: some traditional, some not (hello pistachio croissants). Plus a slew of seasonal and unseasonal caffeinated beverages.
