I've never felt so ripped off. Got a breakfast bowl at the farmers market and asked for double the eggs for a bit of extra money. tipped well when i ordered but shouldn't have. With the tip cost me $13.50. they then took 25 minutes even though there were only two people ahead of me in line to cook the food and present me with the smallest portion I've seen. Just awful. Avoid. My boyfriend and I ordered takeout from this place. I'm vegan and eat gluten free and he's an omnivore. We've experienced our share of bad food trying out restaurants that meet my dietary needs and satisfy his tastes, but this was by far the worst food experience we've had across multiple states. The ordering experience: We ordered three items for takeout with an estimated 20 min wait time. We show up a couple minutes after the estimated time and our food isn't ready. I'm usually pretty lax about these things but we ended up waiting an additional 30 minutes, so 50+ mins in total for two entrees and a side with not even an apology. If the food were good, maybe I could overlook that, but it wasn't... The food: The "mighty bowl" is pictured as containing a mix of beans and veggies and grains in a sauce. The description includes hot sauce. What I got was a mostly a container full of rice and little veggies. There was no sauce to be seen, hot sauce or otherwise. The description included chickpeas, mung beans, and pepitas, and if those were there I missed them. This was bland, dry, and unappealing mix of rice and clusters of some other grain. The side of the mac and cheese was already cold. Many of the noodles didn't have sauce on them. I thought the mushroom flavor was nice but didn't really get any of the pesto. My boyfriend thought it was tasteless. My boyfriend got some kind of pulled pork sandwich which was missing the slaw and looked completely dry. Meat aside the whole thing looked unappetizing. There was also a huge bone (about the diameter of a quarter and width of a dime) in his sandwich that he fortunately noticed while trying to add some kind of sauce to it that I'm glad he didn't choke on. He called the restaurant to express concern about the bone and they brushed him off. Never again. read more

The smoothies from here are excellent! My husband and I ordered some to be delivered, and they came in a sealed glass jar like juice. I appreciated that both had just a hint of sweetness. I visited the new Zeal location for lunch (while on vacation in Estes Park) and give them a 3-star rating based on my overall experience, with a focus on COVID-19 procedures, quality of the food, and service. COVID-19 procedures: They do ask screening questions upon arrival and have the option for a digital menu. The QR code didn't work for us so we got single-use paper menus. The host and our server wore masks that covered both their nose and mouth. We sat outside, and the tables were well-spaced. They were clear that if we used the bathroom inside the restaurant that we needed to go in a specific entrance and wear a mask. It was very hot at our 2 pm lunch so some fans would have been nice. Food: We are dairy- and egg-free but do eat meat. We were vegan when we previously ate at Zeal in 2016 and absolutely loved this place. I am comparing the food from 2016 to the food today in 2020. Since 2016, Zeal has changed locations (see below) and chefs. We ordered the lavender lemonade which was very good, not too sweet. We skipped the booze, but it looks like they had some decent options. We started with the fried guacamole which was awesome. I ordered the vegan mac n' cheese with chix, and my partner had chicken tacos. She liked her food quite a bit. The mac n' cheese was pretty good. It is supposed to contain pesto, but the dish had very little flavor. I didn't taste any garlic or basil; I guess it just wasn't that kind of pesto. The bright spot of the dish was the roasted mushrooms. I asked for more, and they were provided free of charge. The chix turned out to be real chicken (thought it was going to be fake chicken given the spelling and vegan-friendly lunch menu). Even though I eat chicken, I prefer the fake stuff from my vegan days. The chicken had very little flavor. While we're talking about being vegan-friendly, the dinner/entree menu had no vegan options, but the dessert menu seemed to be all vegan. One more note about the food: I came to Zeal planning to order the vegan caesar salad that was so delicious in 2016, but it's no longer on the menu. Location: I liked the old Zeal location more as it was more in the middle of things. The new location was kind of isolated, and there isn't much to look at except a construction site and residential building. Not ideal for date night. Service: The whole experience was snappy because of our server and the fast food prep. Probably the best part of the experience. Overall: This place is solid from the standpoint of COVID-19 procedures and service. Food is pretty good, but I bet there is tastier vegan, dairy-free food in Boulder. read more

I liked the falafel plate with hummus and a small salad of cumber and some pepper, pieces, too. I also ordered bowl of the Tom Gai Kai soup, with chicken as my option. The soup had a yummy taste, BUT, the chicken was one lone chicken wing in the bowl of soup. I guess I was expecting small pieces of chicken, not a whole wing with the skin still on it. At first I thought, well, ok... I'll go for it! I picked it up and tried to eat it, but gave up immediately after my first try. It was just... too... something. Slimy? A small plate with two decent sized pieces of tofu. I tried again! Nope. I ate a small piece of it, and gave up. I drank the rest of the soup down (sans protein), gave the tofu to my friend (who said she'd eat it later), paid my bill, and left with my friend. Zeal is just incredible. We celebrated a birthday dinner there the other night and had such an amazing time. The atmosphere is warm and the menu is FULL to the brim with creative, intentional, and delicious food. We couldn't help but order (almost) all of the small plates and even threw in an extra main dish to share for the table. The vegan mac and cheese is DELICIOUS, and the tofu was locally sourced. You can so easily tell that so much love, intention, and thoughtfulness is infused into every dish on Zeal's menu. Cannot wait to go back and try something new! read more

Avoid their fried foods and sandwiches. They are made with awful smelling rancid coconut oil, which is highly toxic. Their tostones, falafels and quinoa balls! They taste like vomit, due to rancid coconut oil they are fried in. This is not an understatement. Also, my husband got indigestion immediately after eating his quinoa Veggie burger. My wife and I went for a meal early Saturday evening. Food was OK, a bit pricey, $21.00 for a bacon cheeseburger. When we got the check we tried to pay with a Zeal gift card , and were told the restaurant doesn't honor them since they moved from their previous location on Pearl Street. So all you have to do , is move your location, get a different partner and keep your restaurant name, to get out of your financial obligations. I don't think I will ever go back. read more
