A couple of months later a totally different issue occurred so I took it back to them and they fixed it, before I even left the shop a loud banging noise that was not there before, so I went back in and told him about the noise and he said to bring it In later because they were about to close. He said no worries it's an easy fix the latch behind the ac may have just cracked. It's common he said. I told him that I would bring it the following week and he said no problem. I brought it in the next week and another gentleman was at the counter. I don't know how but I knew he would try to haggle me. Which he absolutely did. I told him to just take the car out the shop since I realized I would never stop coming back. Never again!

I did all of…read morethe repairs myself, but needed the diagnostic scanner to do a vehicle calibration, which was the last piece to fixing this issue. I'm no mechanic, but I've studied the air suspension system on Benzes over the last 3 months, and have become pretty well versed in how this thing operates now. Initially had an appointment at KDM at Talmadge Rd. for 8 am. When I got there, I saw one mechanic who had like 3 cars parked in the bay, and a lady, presumably his wife, by the cashier. The lady asked me to park my vehicle, and come inside. She had me fill out a form, and then told me to leave the car. I told her that I spoke with the mechanic when I made the appointment, who said it would take 1-2 hours to run the scanner, so I planned on waiting for him to do it on the spot. She essentially told me that is not how they operate, and that they would call me to pick up the car when it was ready. I told her no thanks, and left. I then called Mercedes Benz's authorized repair shop, and they were all booked solid. I called about 12 shops that specialize in German auto repair, and most were either booked up or wanted to overcharge (one shop quoted me 4 hours!) By the Grace of God, I called Quality 1st Auto Repair and spoke to the owner. He told me to bring my car in this afternoon, so he could take a look. He ran the scanner, which unlocked the vehicle's suspension, and now my car is fully functioning again. He also only charged me for an hour of service, which was entirely reasonable. His scanner also picked up on another error code, which he voluntarily pointed out, so that I was aware there was some other issues with the car. He suggested that I have this other issued looked into ASAP, which could cause further problems if left untreated. Admittedly, I downplayed the error code, but I'll probably try to tackle this other problem as my next DIY. Anyway, cannot praise this place enough. They have a full-fledged operation, nice garage with several workers, heavy machinery, lots of nice cars they're working on, so these guys must be doing something right. They also carry state-of-the-art diagnostic scanning tools (which is key to helping you save money). For example, I brought my car to this other rinky-dinky repair shop who did not have a good scanner, and so they just kept guessing at what was wrong with the car, and telling me I had to replace different parts, so I took the car back to work on it myself. A telltale sign that a repair shop does not know what they're doing or are just guessing at the problem is when they keep asking for "more time" to figure out a problem. With the right diagnostic tool, a mechanic should be able to tell you what's wrong with your car in minutes. I guess this is all a roundabout way of saying that if I could do it all over again, I would have brought my car here in the first place. I will definitely be returning to this place for other work that needs to be done.

This shop looks for and performs unnecessary service work to pad its bill. It is unlawful under the Auto Repairs Deceptive Practices Regulations and the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act for an automotive repair shop to do any of the following: 1. Start work without first having received a signed written authorization from the consumer which clearly states the nature of the repair and the odometer reading of the vehicle. 2. Start work without first giving the consumer a written estimate. If Platt's Performance Plus violates the Auto Repairs Deceptive Practices Regulations or overcharges for a repair, you can file a complaint with NJ Division of Consumer Affairs, 124 Halsey Street, Newark, NJ 07102. They also have an online complaint form. If Platt's Performance Plus performs unauthorized repairs on your car or charges you more than the quoted amount you have two options: 1. File a lawsuit in Superior Court of New Jersey. The Middlesex County Small Claims Section is located at 56 Paterson Street, New Brunswick, NJ 08901. 2. File a complaint with the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs.
