Basically screwed myself buying a 22k car from there ,oh and the rear hatch piston snapped off,and the brake calipers basically rusted out. So I wont be purchasing another car or referring others . That is no longer the case as I recently discovered. Yesterday (Feb, 2024) at Star Auto it cost me $39.99 for a regular oil change. Today (July, 2024) I went to Pep Boys and it cost $35.99. Tomorrow if you go to Star Auto expect to pay $82 plus taxes and fees per a sign posted in their service department. Yesterday (Sept, 2023) the cost of tire rotation at Star Auto was $19. Today I had my tires rotated at Star Auto at a cost of $32.55. Tomorrow I will be heading to Pep Boys where there is no charge. Yesterday (Sept 2023) my wife had a synthetic oil change at Star Auto for $89.95. Today (July, 2024) my wife had a synthetic oil change for $78.68 including taxes at Pep Boys. Tomorrow if you go for a synthetic oil change at Star Auto expect to pay $115 plus taxes per a sign posted in the service department.

I had an 8:00am appointment and I was early. One of the service guys was outside and let me know before I walked all the way over to the door that the door was still locked and they would be sure to let me know when the showroom door was open. Just before 8:00am, Troy opened the door and motioned to me to come on in. Troy greeted me and took me straightaway. He greeted me by name, since he saw me in the parking lot and saw my 8:00am appointment. Troy checked my service record and explained what they would be doing today and asked if there was anything else I needed. My car was taken for service quickly and returned in a timely manner. After getting service at Gene Langan, they send a video to you in your email of the underside of your car and the service technician shows all the things they check - all 4 tires for wear, brakes, rotors, boots, etc. It's fascinating, and I really appreciate it. They also give you a little report on your car of what's good (green), what will need service in the future (yellow) and what needs immediate attention (red). They do a nice job, and they are a nice group to work with. I appreciate them and would recommend Gene Langan Volkswagon in Glastonbury for any VW Service.

Bought my last XC90 used from them, got 2 key fobs with the car. Within 6 months one of the fobs needed a new battery. Having changed my own fob batteries for the last 15 years, I opened it up and replaced the battery. A tiny (and I mean minuscule) piece of cheap plastic fell off that was tasked with holding the battery in a precise location inside the fob, rendering it useless! I used the second fob until it was time for service and then brought in the non-working one to them to look at. I was told it would be over $700 for a new one! The computer part of the fob was perfect-only a tiny piece of plastic to seat the battery was missing. Nope-need a whole new one! I spoke with the service manager, Peter, explaining what had happened, no deal. $700 for a new one. I explained that I have changed the fob batteries for years in my prior cars with no issue and was told that perhaps I should have called the service department to do it for me. I found that to be incredibly condescending. I asked them if they checked the fobs for issues prior to reselling a used car and was told that's not part of the pre-certified process. So no idea if the plastic was already cracked prior to my opening it. I suggested that they replace the fob for free, due to the issue and no guarantee the plastic wasn't cracked when I received it. After much back and forth, and a promise from Peter for a prompt return call, I had to call him back a week and a half AFTER he promised to call. Eventually Peter dropped the replacement fob cost to $375. I refused. I went to Mitchell Volvo and they were able to fix it no charge. After 15 years-Gengras has lost all of my business. I will buy my cars from Mitchell Volvo and I suggest others do the same.

Having to use the computer to control common tasks is dangerous. There's a real safety issue. The car manual on the computer is incomplete. There is no AM radio. Downloading an app is the fix. There are too many things to fix. The technology isn't convenient. The Volvo app is archaic. The dealership does not stand behind its love it or return it policy. The three day return policy was not honored. I called 18 hours after the purchase. I didn't get a return call. I reached out to the sales manager who would not honor the policy he states on the website. I was well within the return policy and he refused. I would strongly advise avoiding this dealership based on my experience. As for the dealership advancing a response to this review, please don't. The dealership's canned response cannot negate the reality of my experience.
