Love love love the atmosphere of this place! The staff I've met have all been very nice and helpful. Food I ordered has been tasty, (breakfast bowl, smoothie bowl) nothing I couldn't make at home though. Coffee was delicious! I ordered a cappuccino and was very impressed by the quality of the espresso. I came here two times to get some work done. There is WiFi and lots of different seating. The garden is adorable (didn't get to see a cat ) but it's not great for doing work on a computer. Music was a little loud for my liking but overall I'd strongly recommend this as a hangout or work spot if you're okay with a busy, vibrant atmosphere. read more

This is for the brick & mortar store. Been there twice. Once a week after opening and recently. The first time I had chicken with black beans & rice and a side order of empanadas. I didn't realize how much you got so I had way too much food. It was good the next day. Plus it was a gorgeous day to sit outside. Recently, I had the Brazilian Burger. OMG! It was too huge for my big mouth so I cut it into pieces. I couldn't eat it all but it was so worth the attempt. I also had a large fry - which took up too much burger space in my stomach. Coming from NYC I can be critical when it comes to food, as NYC has everything and really good everything. With that, I was skeptical about trying Poke in South Virginia. However, this place did not disappoint. It is quite pricey though. For a small bowl of the Cali Poke with rice I paid $15+. In NYC that will get you a big bowl (bigger than the large one here). The large here is equivalent to a small there. And there's only tuna, no other option for the sashimi. Other than the price and limited options, the food is good; although it is pretty hard to screw up Poke unless the fish isn't fresh or you're lacking flavors. I enjoyed it! read more

I had the Southern Loco Moco and for $7 it was pretty good. The portion size was lacking. The actual food itself was tasty. The gravy was super flavorful and the eggs were cooked perfectly. Can't go wrong with chorizo. Small business size and the location is not that great. It's in the more artsy district but just outside the sweet spot. The parking area was sketchy because of the location and the inside of the shop had the vibes that your pothead older brother had opened a restaurant in his basement. It didn't feel very professional. If you're into a slightly overpriced hippie vibe, then this place is for you. It reminded me of my hometown, Asheville NC. Maybe that's why it felt so out of place in Norfolk. It also stays pretty crowded (because only 7-10 people can fit) and you won't be eating inside. Don't waste your time, go to Town Center Cold Pressed instead, they answer their phones, have a website for orders, and have a store you can actually walk into. I have been solely going to zeke's for smoothie bowls since before COVID but they have gone downhill tremendously since then. It's impressive how hard it is to place an order at the norfolk location, they don't have a website to place orders, will mess up orders through grubhub, and don't answer the phone. They let it ring once or twice without answering or will block well, then will pull the phone off the hook 30-45 minutes before closing. It's very difficult to place orders for offices or groups, let alone for yourself without going in person. Customer service at the door has worsened as well. Their hours aren't up to date on any of their websites. Only redeeming factor is that the bowls are still good, if you manage to get one. read more

My wife is from Hawaii and I was stationed there on and off for about nine years, so when we heard about this place, we just had to jump on it. I braved the spicy ahi bowl, while my wife had the O.G. and my son had the PB&J bowl. Besides the fact that it was all beyond delicious, the place looks great and has some really cool stuff sitting around. We chatted with the chef before we left and turns out he is from Hawaii, and you can tell he really knows his stuff. Some might say the price is a little high, but if you want really good grade ahi tuna, it is gonna cost you no matter where you go. We have definitely found our poke place! Besides the fact that this is one of the few places you can find good poke in Virginia. If you have never tried it, give it a shot and I am sure you will not be disappointed. Legit coffee for the noobs and the snoobs. Ron is super friendly, fast and helpful. Parking is ok. Pretty popular place. Food is 5 star. I have a neutral flavor palate (not too spicy and I'm not too big of a fan of exotic) but my tuna melt was AWESOME! Stacked with tuna steak, not canned or minced. Awesome flavor. Ok, so I randomly was looking through Yelp and somehow saw that this unassuming little spot has POKE! What?!?! I literally work and live a couple blocks away and couldn't believe I have been missing out so long. My clinical field placement is about 5 blocks aways, so after a particularly grueling morning I decided to treat myself (b/c treating yo' self is important) for lunch. I am familiar with the area because I live here, as I already mentioned, but because I frequent the Vape Shop a couple places down. Another reason why I was feeling stupid for not knowing poke was so close at hand. Anyway, the decor is quite cute--it reminds me of some of the spots up in Williamsburg in NYC. The staff was friendly and I guess the prices were decent. $10 for the spicy poke bull + $2 for rice. I left a $2 tip, although I rarely do for take out orders. I figured since it was my first time coming here I would do so, but I don't know if I'll do it again. That's just my personal philosophy. My maternal side of the family is from Hawai'i and Guam (my paternal side Japan), so poke has got to be good to impress me. I thought the poke was pretty darn good, but it was SO SPICY. Oh man, I know I ordered the spicy bowl, but this was like Korean level spicy not spicy tuna handroll spicy. The fish was fresh and the marinade well balanced. I'm pretty sure I would've liked it more if it wasn't so incredibly caliente. But that was my bad. The brown rice I got with it was a little hard, but hey, that's how brown rice. I think a better choice would be to use a partially milled brown rice, which is softer but still retains the nutrient content of the rice. That's what they use as brown rice in Japan, it is my favorite. Ultimately, this is a place I will return to with my husband who absolutely loves poke. I love Zekes. I love their coffee (always fresh and different types), their bowls, and their atmosphere. It fits perfectly in the arts district and it is trendy but very casual. I am regularly shazamming music I hear there and they are the reason I knew Marian Hill before it was cool (first time ever that's happened I think). One time, I was at the window bar and the server who brought my coffee over said "boop!" as he put it down. I finally got to try Zeke's, and I loved it! I was happy to see a location in Norfolk since it's close to where I work. Street wasn't too hard to find during this lunch hour. As soon as I walked in, I felt a cool and relaxed vibe. I love the hipster feel that many small restaurants in downtown Norfolk give off. The place felt old-school, but not in a bad way. There is a bat by the window for you to sit as well as a few tables. I'm glad it wasn't too busy because we were able to get a table right away. Their menu has a variety of options for bowls and drinks as well. It can be a bit pricy, but fish isn't cheap nowadays. They don't serve soda at this place, but do offer homemade tea and also have tap water for free on the side of the restaurant. After looking over the menu, I chose the small Keali'i bowl with no rice. It came out pretty quickly as well. I wanted poke, but I love seaweed, crab salad, and avocados. It was such a good mix! Everything tasted so fresh. I probably should have gotten the rice because I was still pretty hungry afterwards. Hopefully I'll get to try the Acai bowls next time. read more

I just developed a like for Poke recently and was researching of some places near my workplace to grab a bowl and head home and there it was glorious Zeke's. I've been twice since I discovered it and have had the Spicy Poke and the Sweet and Spicy Poke bowl and both were to die for but definitely really SPICY. But if you love Spicy then you will love it as much as I did. The service was also amazing and the staff is very helpful and friendly on any questions you have. If you've never been to Zekes or had a poke bowl it is a must try. The place has a really hip comfortable atmosphere. You order at the counter and then bring it out to you. Really friendly staff. The food is not cheap but you get what you pay for. Really good quality produce/tuna. The only negative is that you will get addicted . I crave Zekes poke bowl once a week now. So normally I love this place it's one of my favorites. I'm currently on night shift at the hospital and I love coming over here after work for their breakfast bowls. However this a.m. I waited outside for roughly 15 minutes and they did not open at 8 AM as their website says. They weren't even open by 815. it makes me wonder about the reliability. Honestly if you say you're going to be open you need to be open otherwise the patrons attempting to visit your establishment are going to be frustrated and upset as I am this morning.
