RUSHED, INCONSIDERATE, & FLAT OUT RUDE. If you don't care about getting the right tux, go here because you will be met at the door with a crotchety man who seems like he hates his job and life in general. For my senior prom, I went here to get my tuxedo and I wanted it to be perfect. To ensure I got everything right, I asked Mr.Zemo if I could try on a couple different jackets and shirts. Every single time I asked for a new one, he groaned and acted like it was so physically taxing to take a jacket off the rack. Isn't that your job? Why should you make the customer feel badly for wanting to try on other options? At one point he even said to me, "the faster you try on the jacket the faster you get out of my store". Dude, I understand acting a bit offensive as part of a gag, but Mr.Zemo continuously crossed the line as it got to a point where I genuinely felt like he didn't want my business. I kept my composure throughout the entire experience which was hard because he was getting on my nerves, and I made sure I was respectful, but I was just interrupted with "WHAT?" Or some other bitterness. The quality of the tux itself was good, aside from some broken buttons on the shirt sleeve. In my opinion, I just regret giving this business my money because Mr. Zemo does NOT deserve it. First time customer. My son and I needed tuxedos for my oldest son's wedding. We received prompt help, and each had an excellent fitting experience. Both tuxedos were virtually new, we each left with confidence we had the goods needed for a formal wedding. It's nice to get it right the first time!! His inventory was truly impressive to see. After reading the negative reviews, I was hoping they were symptomatic of indecisive customers or those not familiar with formal wear. After visiting the store, I am disappointed to report the problem stems entirely from the sales person. Rather than taking measurements, he asked me to try on tuxedo shirts from the rental supply (and admitted they have shrunken from repeated laundering and may not be an accurate gauge). When a shirt ran large, he suggested I would tuck in the extra fabric rather than find the correct fit. The sales person continued to demonstrate an absence of knowledge on current trends by exclaiming that 'nobody wears cummerbunds and bib shirts are only for white tie'. After I was shown low-quality, cotton blend and microfiber, tuxedo shirts, I decided to leave. The sales person assured me that he sells enough shirts to not need my business. Luckily there are an abundance of quality retailers in Greenwich, Darien, and Norwalk. read more

Definitely nice store. Owner was very rude. I really dont care if you own the store. Dont be a butt hole. Me looking to purchase and asking from him how his services worked made him feel that I was being defensive. He immediately stated that I didn't like him or the way he runs his business. I went to Zemo's in Stamford with my 17 year old son to pick up his suit for the prom. I walked into the rental shop and it looked as if you walked into a time warp from 1969, very dated, but that was not the problem. As we waited to be served by the one man shop, I heard him talk rudely to 3 teenagers also about 17 years of age,"wait there you schmucks " which surprised me that the owner would call a customer a schmuck ! When it came to our turn I told the owner of the shop I would like for my son to try on the suit and shirt and that is when he became rude to us. He told my son to be careful with the hem when putting on the pants and he became very nasty when he had to redo the pants leg hem-it seems they fell down when he tried the pants on. I could hear him in the back room complaining out loud to himself! I then stated to him if your hem can't hold by just trying on the pants how will hold up at the prom night! He became very rude and nasty and was talking down to me in front of my son ! This is not the way an owner of a shop should talk to their customers. Joe Zemo is a "different" kind of guy. He is not your expected pleasant mildly obsequious tailor. If anything he's a bit of the opposite. He is opinionated and often loud and even may appear to some to be arrogant. He really isn't, he cares about his clients and their appearance. He has definite opinions but he is very often right, and he will do right by you. His main business is formal wear rentals but he has a made to measure service which is very good. And he utilizes very good companies to produce his piece goods. I have never done a suit with him but I would imagine it would be a successful project. I am overall pleased with my experience with shirts and trousers. Don't let the mid-60s (mid-50s?) look of the shop or Joe's demeanor stop you. If you are pleasant to him he will be to you, even if at times he remind you of a football or basketball coach. He maybe the only old-style men's clothing store left in Stamford, and he is with a visit. read more

First impression is the most important. Due to the many different Covid restrictions for businesses I called to see if an appointment was needed or if I can just walk in. The guy who answered the phone not sure if name was Joe but let me tell you rude is not even the word. All I said when he answered was hi as you know prom is coming, he goes I know I'm very busy get to the point. Again all I wanted to know was if an appointment was needed or if I can just walk in, I wasn't going to talk his ear off with questions. I understand places get busy and it's stressful but who the heck do people think they are talking any way to others like excuse you, I understand if I was nasty or rude on the phone but I wasn't. I will take my business elsewhere, my son is a junior so I will be doing 2 proms, this month and next year so someone else who is friendly and wants my business can get my money. Don't waste your time here you don't need extra stress, getting prepared for prom is enough. Just because owner Joe said thank you as a reply on google review I'll be sure to place more of this review on the internet just to match his pettiness. If you're looking for a place to rent a tux, walk RIGHT past Zemos, go to the bar next store for a beer and look up a different rental spot. I was fitted there for a tuxedo because I was in a wedding party and each groomsman got fitted there as well. The fitting was painless, in and out. Went to pick up the tux's the day before the wedding and basically had to be refitted then and there because none of our measurements went right the first time. Now the day of the wedding. Zemo forgot to put in the buttons and cuff links, and the wedding was on a Sunday so I was shit out of luck. The grooms fathers cuff links were broken, another groomsman had a huge rip on his shirt, another guy had a rip in his collar. And these are apparently $1500 tuxedos as Zemo mentioned atleast 10 times. I would've been better off getting a tuxedo from Goodwill instead of this pinhead! Oh it gets better! During the reception after I used the bathroom, the zipper broke and I was unable to zip my fly back up so I had to bobby pin my fly together in the middle of the reception which looked absolutely ridiculous. I was furious and cautious the rest of the reception because I was afraid of an indecent exposure incident! $220 dollars for all that headache. Go elsewhere if you're a fan of spending your money wisely. read more

I have never purchased custom clothing before going to see Moe's to get a suit made for my wedding... It was an effortless painless experience that I would love to duplicate should I have the means and need for additional custom suits. The sales rep Joe is courteous and helpful. He broke down every aspect of the suit every aspect of the suit from type of pockets, number of pockets, weave, color, Cuts, style everything. The best part about this experience was the fact that the only time I was in the store for more than 10 minutes was while we were initially going through the design of the suit to the ordered. Every other time that I came in I put on the suit he made adjustments we talked back and forth about what needed to be changed and I was out. I would recommend this place to anyone who has a budget between 1,000 and $2,000. read more

Renters beware of Zemo's. The owner Joe comes off as an honest character, but I found myself taking a lot time fighting for $250 after he convinced me to leave the total amount of $1079.00 for 5 tux rentals. I was on the fence whether to rent or buy, so I decided to see what it would cost to rent vs. buy. I visited Zemo's with three of my grooms men and charged my card to hold 5 tux rentals after Joe assured me he would refund my money if I decided to buy my tuxes. After a week I found tuxes and called Joe. He said he would refund immediately. After two weeks of not seeing the refund on my card I filed a dispute. After filing the dispute, Joe sent in false documents to the credit card company showing a $50 cancellation fee for 5 rentals. The truth prevailed in this case, but it was a very frustrating and annoying thing to go through. It's sad that someone would take advantage of a person especially for an occasion like a wedding. I have enjoyed the experience and the product delivered (always on time) has always been of good-to-very-good quality at reasonable prices. It is not a "up-to-date" looking shop by any means, it's old school, but what you get it worth it. I waited last minute to get a tuxedo for my company's holiday Xmas party. I had a week before the party and ran to Zemo's. Not only did he get the job done in time he exceeded expectations. I walked in a few weeks before my company's holiday party to rent a suit. I spoke with Joe and he had me try on different jackets and pants. The whole time Joe rushed through everything and would not here you out as to what your expectations were as a customer. Joe kept handing me pants and jackets that were swimming on me and insisted they were appropriate. I've never once had this experience anywhere at a men's formal rental store. After going back and forth I finally got him to agree to the pants and jacket that fit nicely. He advised to come in a week later a day before my holiday party to try it on, however he charged me on this day. I come back a week later and all a sudden he's back to the pants I had said no to, and he pretended like these were the tapered pants and I had tried on.. mind you their about several inches wider at the heal, make no mistake they were the wrong pants and he knew it. He advised to come back again the next day, the day of my holiday party to once again pick up the suit and he'd have the right pants for me. He rushes me out as he is with other customers. I get home and there is holes in the pants, the jacket is three sizes to large. When his store was finally open again I immediately came in and advised Joe I couldn't wear the suit and had asked if he could issue a refund. I even showed him pictures of the holiday party clearly not in the suit. Even though he saw how big the jacket was because I tried it on right there and saw the rips in the pants, Joe refused and said nope you took the suit, not my fault. He then went to say unprovoked, you can try to take me to court but I've gone to small claims court several times and trust me you won't win. Clearly he's had this experience over and over again. I don't generally write reviews but I'm hoping this will deter other people from having to go through this experience. He doesn't replace suits that are damaged and will lend them up hoping you don't notice. The prices are the same as any other rental places so you don't save money going this route. It cost me 200+ for nothing. His business practices are unethical and I'm sure he'll reply below saying he takes this seriously, he doesn't! Go somewhere else! read more

These guys are the best - top quality clothing fitted by 1st class professionals. No one else that I am aware of will alter a rented tuxedo, but Zemo's did. And I had an issue with the tuxedo (entirely my fault) and Zemo's addressed it professionally and immediately. I think that's the difference between working with an owner who takes pride in his work versus an employee working at a chain store. If you need a good tuxedo that is properly fitted - go to Zemo's! If quality and fit are not your priorities, you need to ask yourself why you're renting a tuxedo in the first place. read more

The owner helped us and made the rental process SO easy. He was an absolute pleasure to work with - he has an outstanding personality (very humorous), really knows his stuff, and is incredibly patient. We are very picky and he had no problem showing us style after style and offering to make special alterations to our rental to fit our preference. Zemo's..? More like Schemo's! John the owner is a scam artist and nearly ruined my wedding. There wasn't one tuxedo that didn't have an issue. Broken fly, ripped jacket, missing buttons, broken cufflinks, buttons falling off.. The list goes on! The owner also told my friend he was fat and wanted to give him a cheap suit because he was afraid of him ripping his "One of a kind Hickey Freeman suit." Then he started yelling at my cousin for bringing his young sons in 6 weeks before the wedding because they would grow by the wedding day and the suits would not fit.. what do you think John, they're going to grow a foot in a month?! I would not recommend this store to anyone unless you want the morning of your wedding to be a total nightmare. read more
