Had a very nice mani pedi. Salon is in an old house, and is, as they say in their ad, family owned and run. Very walkable from the neighborhood, and plenty of parking, too. Right next door to a brand new Starbucks. Mae and Kim did my nails, very clean and professional job. Although I'm visiting from CA and probably won't be back soon, I liked and trusted Kim so much I changed my mind and got a shellac mani, my first! Recommended salon. read more

They are so cute, sweet and HILARIOUS. On my first visit I received a shellac manicure (compliments of Cookie/Tina and loving it), also received pedicure (compliments of Zen) as well as eyebrow waxing... So a little bit of almost everything they offer and I'm sold. It's clean, bright, comfortable and exactly 5 minutes from my doorstep (a 10-12 minute walk)..... I love, love, love this place. It's adorable. It's extremely clean, and the prices are more than reasonable. I've had Cookie do my acryllic nails a few times now, and she is truly an artist. I like my nails to be short and natural-looking. I've never had anyone do them as thin and pretty as Cookie does. Both Zen and Cookie remembered my name after the first time I went in there. I moved to rice military a few months ago and have been passing this little place on my way to and from work everyday - it stands out, being housed in a cute refurbished little bungalow. So from the start I was intrigued, as every other nail place in the area that I've visited is located in strip malls. So I finally made an appointment for a mani-pedi-eyebrow wax yesterday, and I couldn't be happier with the service. Super friendly, welcoming, and competent staff. At first I thought this was another cheap nail plane. But the girls did an amazing job and so detailed. I had to go to the bathroom and messed up my thumbs the ladies had no problems to fix it. Only thing I would change Is a better drying process. I stayed for another 30 mins bc I thought I would mess my nails . All and all happy with my $32 mani/pedi. Ay Dios mio, me and my boyfriend, we are a young homosexual couple, were not very thrilled with the service because Zen and Cookie rushed and they also kept staring at my novio. The atmosphere is a little like being in someones house rather than your typical nail salon. This was hands down the best pedicure I have ever had! My friend and I walked in this afternoon and were able to get a private room for just us 2, no wait! The staff is courteous and attentive and they really pay attention to detail. Such as quaint little house the business is located in. The last time I came here, I got a mani pedi. The pedicure was just fine, but the guy made my nail polish bubble on every finger. It was disappointing cause he did a great job cleaning, trimming, and filing. The service was good, but it was too bad that I didn't notice the bubbles until I got home. The services were reasonably priced ($32 mani/pedi). I noticed all of their implements were in sanitized packets and all files/buffers were new. This will be my regular mani/pedi place. read more

I got a shellac manicure and a pedicure. I went around 11:30am on a Friday and they were able to accommodate me right away. They were particularly attentive and much more detailed than other salons usually are. This is definitely going to be my go to place from now on. Zen and Cookie are the best!!! They are so funny and friendly. It really is the most warm, relaxing experience because of the location, decor and great service. I recommend making an appointment because they do get very busy. They have A VERY BIG FOLLOWING of loyal customers - many of which have known them for over a decade - and the place is always busy. Sometimes it's crazy busy.... but I ALWAYS get compliments on my nails, so it is worth having to make an appointment. If you like the kind of salon where you can just drop in any time of day and there's a half dozen manicurists reading magazines & waiting for walk-ins, this is not the shop for you. I came in on April 2 for a pedicure and shellac mani. Within 1 week the pedi was chipping and the shellac was lifting. I knew I should have gotten up to leave when a cheese grater (literally, a cheese grater) was pulled out of a box (ie. dirty) for use on my feet. I was looking for somewhere to get a mani/pedi on Saturday and of course checked Yelp to see if there were any good places around my house and Zen-Cookie Nails seemed to fit the bill. While I am not totally sure if all of their other reviews are legit I truly do think this place is A-OK. I booked an 11 o'clock appointment for me and my man and I told them on the phone that one of the people coming would be a guy. I say this because I am not sure if that prompted their placing us in a side private room or not. We arrived right at 11 and were asked to take a seat. We waited for about 10 minutes before we were taken to the side room. The chairs were the generic big comfy massage chairs that you would find in almost any nail salon. I am not a huge fan of these but that is just my personal opinion. I just don't like getting jostled and shook and kneaded when I am sitting in a chair. The mani and pedi both were acceptable and the ladies doing them were nice. I appreciated that there wasn't as much talking between the manicurist as I find in some salons. I truly do come to relax and when people are continuously talking it takes away from the experience for me. My fiance loved getting a pedicure (he'd never had one before). If I don't feel like driving to my regular place. I would definitely stop back in. read more

A good friend of mine referred me to ZenCookie nails after I commented on how great her gel manicure looked. Now I haven't gotten my nails done since prom (college grad now) since I have relatively strong nails that just need a coat of paint. I was really interested in this gel manicure so I called to make an apt. (turns out you can just walk in). I had to girls take care of my manicure, one of which I found out was the owner. I was offered a drink and felt very comfortable. My manicure turned out great! And lasted for three weeks before I noticed a chip. On my way out I noticed two guys standing outside working on the porch, one asked me how my nail turned out and stated inquiring about how I thought the girls did. This turned out to be the new owner (Matt) and his wife was one of the girls who did my manicure. He was very nice and friendly as we talked about their new establishment. This nail salon is in an adorable little house in the heights. WHen we walked in, there were a couple open pedicure chairs. Someone started running water for us and told us to pick out our colors. We picked out our colors and started soaking our feet. This is where the issue started. I was ignored FOR OVER 45 MINUTES. No one asked if I could use a drink, gave me a time frame as to when I could expect to have my pedicure start, or apologized. Just ignored. If they had asked us to wait that would be one thing, but sitting customers in pedicure chairs and leaving their feet to soak for almost an hour with no feedback is completely outrageous. Once they started they were very thorough and did a good job, but I will not be back. read more

I went to Zen-Cookie nails with a good experience so decided to go back for a second time. Unfortunately Houston traffic got the best of me so I called and asked if they could accommodate my appointment 30 minutes after I had scheduled - to which they said yes. I show up and the lady takes the shellac off my finger nails and starts to give me a pedicure. During this time multiple people arrive and it becomes obvious that they cannot accommodate everyone. The woman who is doing my nails asks me to return another day to finish (even though they said they could accommodate my changed appointment). I leave with a pedicure that looks like it had been done in 5 minutes because it had and with my finger nails with shellac scraped off of them. I will not be returning. read more

I love going to get my nails done...even tho it may be every 3 weeks. While there are many establishments that charge less, this moderately priced privately owned salon provides a service that a more upscale salon would charge more $$. It is a comfortable and very clean cozy place. The nail products are all top line and fresh. A wide array of colors with grouping of similar hues to make selection easier. I often just trust them to select. They know best choice if given shades preference. They use new products each time you go and can take home file and buffers. Many organic scented wonderful srubs to choose from for your feet to soak in and leg massage. While walik ind are welcome I suggest making an appointment. They do not like their customers to wait and more importantly, do not want to rush your experience. They are gentle on the nails. Mine are actually better since going there. They don't cut cuticles too deep or dig into nail beds which makes them weak. The process will take an hour or so. So come relaxed, read, watch TV or enjoy a conversation with these pleasant young women.. All speak perfect English and there is no chattering in another language between staff. Two women own this quaint nail salon in Rice Military. It's located conveniently right off Washington Ave in a cute little bungalow. Friendly and very easy to communicate with. Very relaxing environment...much more so than any strip mall nail salon. They also do a great job and are very reasonably priced...And do a much better job than even the Trellis at Houstonian.
