It's not bougie at all, and you share a common space with others divided by sectioned-off curtains and sometimes you'll get a person snoring one over next to you cause the massages are so good, but for the price, you really can't complain. Even though I only get the foot massage, they literally still work your entire body from face, ears, scalp, down to your arms, hands, legs, feet--why, duh, and then your back and even butt. The hour goes by too fast cause it's so good and relaxing. Plus, they're super accommodating if you want to request for different pressures. Keep in mind that there can be a language barrier depending on the masseuse but simple requests should be easily accommodated. Get a stamp card too if you plan on coming here often. When we left to pay, we gave each masseuse a $5 tip which was a 25% tip... after all each massage was only $20 (part of the appeal of this place). Zen is one of the best foot massage spa's in the greater LA area. I have been to Las Vegas to Seattle and I have yet to find a foot spa for $15! Normally foot spas charge $20 for an hour and that includes them massaging your arms, head, legs and feet. The trick is that you don't ask for anything but a foot massage. This forces the masseuses to concentrate on your feet. But if you want the everything package then don't say a word, they will know what to do, but keep in mind your feet at that point only get 10 minutes of attention and to me it defeats the purpose. When you enter Zen they will ask you if you want the 1) 60 min 14.99 foot massage 2) 60 min 19.99 foot massage and back 3) 60 min 34.99 combo massage 4) 60 min 39.99 acupressure massage To be honest, I tried them all and there was no difference in the type of massage other than #2 takes you to a section to where you are in a sleeping position (verses a recliner for the #1) and 3&4 take to to a massage table. Other than that, you are better off taking the #1 as there is no difference in time or style. The owner's name is Lee, she is an amazing business woman and if you are fortunate when she is there, everything goes very smooth. Unfortunately when she is not there, there are some language barriers to deal with but all in all you will manage. The masseuses are hard working people and its a good idea to tip as you seem fit. I usually tip anywhere between $5 to $15 depending on how much care the masseuse takes and how much I have in my wallet. There are some good masseuses: if you like a light massage, then Vivian is amazing. She has a really nice touch and 10 minutes into your massage you are falling asleep. If you want a really deep and aggressive massage, then the guy who looks like Bruce Lee (no joke) is awesome as well. Another good idea is to load Google translate on your phone. It's a great way to communicate in Chinese and if you turn the phone on the side it will show in large characters. For example: Softer = Gèng róuhé - Harder = Gèng nán - More Oil = Gèng duō de shíyóu - Just Feet = Zhishì yingchi - Thank You = Xièxiè - Now you don't need to learn any of this but if you are a foot spa junkie like me, then it's best to be prepared as things go smoother. Another thing to do is bring your own Epson Salt. While your feet are soaking in warm water for about 5 mins, best to pour Epsom salt. You can get some across the street at Rite-Aid for $6 for a 6lb bag and it will last you some time. It's just makes the foot massage that much better! Cellular coverage is spotty. Doesn't matter if its Verizon or AT&T, I don't get 4G when I'm there so best to put away your phone for an hour and give your body the time that it deserves. I went with a friend, and we each got the foot massage w/ back massage for $20 (basic foot massage is $15)--so cheap! When we first arrived, they told us it would be a 30 minute wait, but we ended up waiting less than 10 minutes. The guy who massaged me did a good job--he used strong pressure and my upper back definitely felt less tight afterwards. What bothered me, though, was all the distractions during our massage. All the people working there talked loudly to each other. At one point, the manager was giving my guy money (probably tips?), and he stopped massaging me for awhile to take money and talk to the other person. I understand massage places like these won't offer the same relaxing environment you would get at a spa, but the staff here talked a lot more and was way louder than ones at other Chinese foot massage places. I paid and tipped in cash, because they charge ~$1 for credit cards. They offer a rewards card, which gives you a free massage after 10 massages. We came on a Saturday night and found street parking right in front of this place. This is definitely not one of the better foot massage places I've been to. I was introduced to the Zen a few months ago, and it's always an enormous treat for my body and mind. The vibe is very mellow, with soft lighting, whispers and gentle instrumental music. I opt for the feet and full body for 1 hr, and it always is such a relaxing experience, I'm left in a daze when it's all over. Granted, this is the first reflexology / massage parlor I've ever been to, but even my girlfriend who has been to a variety of different places at higher prices swears that this is the best, so she's become a regular! I prefer a male masseuse to really put the pressure down, but they have females also for a more delicate touch. The massage method employed by the masseuses is incredible--they are really attentive and thorough every time I've gone so far. The hot foot bath, warm towels and lotion they use is heavenly, and always felt clean and invigorating. I tip at least $15, $20 if it's really amazing--don't be those cheap jerks who gives them a fiver, they really do an amazing job and deserve more given how good the massage is! read more

The old me would have just weathered the storm, but the new me said "fuck this, if I'm gonna pay a dude to rub my body he better at least know not to fuck with my goddamn scalp... doesn't he know that shit gives me dandruff... also for fucks sake what are you scratching at??? My brain? Aren't you supposed to be massaging???" So yeah I tried to end it mid massage and just wait outside for my boyfriend to be done. But they insist that I let this other lady try. I accepted this offer because at least having a woman shittily rub my body is less creepy. She gave me what can only be described as a gentle sponge bath. Ok I'm a bit confused, so I decided to sit in my car to write this review immediately. Originally I went to Happy Foot and Happy Back right up the street but they were completely booked. I then walked down to Zen and was greeted nicely by an elderly woman. After about 10-15 minutes into my massage, the elderly woman began to complain that her arms were hurting, I don't speak the language but I could see everything under the cloth that were supposed to be covering my eyes and it seems like that's what was happening. Sure enough a bald guy came over to her rescue and started to massage my feet. Here's where the confusion lies. This guy had it out for my feet, I mean he wanted to permanently cripple me for no apparent reason. I couldn't understand why this guy wanted to break every bone in my foot. Like a guy, I tried to man up and deal with the pain but I couldn't last too long, I tapped out. I nicely asked him to lessen the pressure and even gestured with a small hand signal, I guess he didn't get it because he continued to fracture every bone on the dorsal and ventral side of my foot. As he moved upward towards my legs and back, it became clear to me that I must have done something to this guy in my past lifetime. I'm not sure what it was but I didn't deserve this treatment.
