I see that you deny what is clearly real since I know first hand. The cleaners who don't want to clean "because they are too old" (yes actually said that) to reach and clean lighting fixtures, so instead hid in the bathroom to watch movies on her phone. Based on my experience with Zen Home, here are some things to consider before hiring them. -- Zen Home charges for the service the day before the appointment, which is not in keeping with other services I've used and complicates things when the service is unsatisfactory. -- Zen Home does not deliver the high-end "luxury" standard it advertises. Despite charging premium rates and burning essential oils, the actual cleaning across multiple visits has been superficial and mediocre. -- For my last cleaning, there was a disturbing lack of communication regarding personnel; a supervisor arrived during the cleaning without Zen Home giving me notice or getting my consent before the appointment, raising serious privacy and security concerns. What if I had not been home? Would the supervisor have been let in? Would you want unannounced strangers roaming your apartment? -- The supervisor completely missed the existence of the master bathroom. I know this because I was here while he was here. The master shower was left entirely uncleaned with visible soap scum remaining. It wasn't even rinsed. -- Despite image and video evidence time-stamped as of immediately after the cleaning, Zen Home falsely claimed the work was verified by the supervisor. This is especially galling as I heard the worker tell the supervisor that she had not yet gotten to the master bathroom. Even if the supervisor had realized that there was a another bathroom, how could the supervisor possibly verify that the master bath had been cleaned when he left before the worker cleaned it? -- Zen Home's proposed solution was not to offer a partial refund, but to send another cleaner--an significant imposition on my schedule. Why would I trust another cleaner from Zen Home to do a good job?? If you want a good housekeeper, stay away from Zen Home and get a referral from a trusted friend or neighbor instead. read more

Update: I am adding this clarification because the company's public response contains several inaccuracies about what happened. Note that they are selective in what they address and reframe my experience. In doing so, they inadvertently corroborate the core facts. They rely solely on"policy" and do not contest the validity of the reasons for my complaints. 1. The key issue was not addressed honestly. Zen repeatedly states that the cleaner "left the key exactly where instructed." This is misleading. When I arrived home around 6pm (2 hours after the cleaning was scheduled to be completed), the apartment key was not in the mailbox. I also knocked on my apartment door in case the cleaner was still there, but no answer. I was locked out of my home with no way to contact anyone for help. I left the building to search for a locksmith, and only when I returned nearly an hour later did I discover that the key had been placed in the mailbox at some later point. I was never notified of this. The issue was the period of time when I was locked out without help, not where the key eventually ended up. Their response leaves this out entirely. 2. There was no emergency contact, support, or after-hours information. The outgoing phone message said to "wait for the next available representative," with no mention of being closed, unstaffed, or unable to respond. Being locked out of one's home is a safety concern, not a routine customer service question. A reclean does not resolve this. It was a scary experience, and what if I had not had money for a locksmith if the cleaner did not eventually come back? It's possible that I would have had to spend the night with no where to go. In the company's response to my Better Business Bureau complaint, Deanna implies that because I eventually was able to get in, there was no issue. She further states that their hours are listed in multiple places, however, as mentioned, their voice message states to "wait for the next representative," suggesting someone is available. Regardless, not having an emergency plan is irresponsible when handling people's keys. 3. The apartment was not cleaned to the standard advertised. When I finally got inside, I immediately had to sweep, vacuum, and wipe down multiple visibly dirty surfaces, including window sills and kitchen counters. I have photos documenting this. The company's response cites their own after-photos, but those photos do not reflect the condition of my home when I entered it. 4. My personal cleaning supplies were used without permission. Nearly an entire box of my Swiffer pads was used, even though they were not left out for use. In fact, they were hidden under the counter, and the cleaner had to go looking for them himself in order to have found them. The apartment smelled strongly of Swiffer afterward, not the green, aromatherapy products advertised. This is not addressed in their response except to imply using Swiffer was acceptable. 5. My stove did not light after the service, another safety issue. This was another immediate problem that their response omits entirely. 6. A reclean did not address any of the actual problems. Zen frames my declining a reclean as unreasonable. A reclean does not solve: * being locked out and scared * lack of emergency assistance * misuse of personal supplies * inaccurate cleaning standards * stove malfunction * inconsistent communication * or the distress and safety risk caused Their ONLY offered solution was to send someone back into my apartment, despite the fact that the core issues were about trust and safety, not just missed dusting. 7. Their response reframes the situation rather than acknowledging it. I am sharing these details so future clients have accurate information. I understand that mistakes can happen, but the company's refusal to acknowledge the seriousness of being locked out, or to offer any resolution beyond a reclean, was ultimately why I requested a refund. Although the company did email me Monday morning, it took 2 more emails and a voicemail before they even acknowledged the key issue in the third email I received from them 48 hours after the incident. This clearly shows a disregard for my well being, and a complete lack of responsibility. There was also never any kind of apology. read more

I paid Zen Home Cleaning to clean my apartment and came home to find it vandalized. They somehow broke a gas stove (wtf?), left a cast iron pan soaking in the sink, left windows open and lights on for a weekend I was gone, and threw random things into a closet with dirty cleaning supplies and an I rinsed mop bucket on top. Shame on them. Edit: my super replaced two circuit board in the oven, valued at approximately $500, due to water damage. He said he's seen this in the past when someone pours large amounts of water onto the stovetop in order to try and soak it to remove grease. I suppose that's on the same mental wavelength as soaking a cast iron pan. Anyone could google whether they should do these things and find a page full of links telling them they will cause damage. I also found a voicemail from one of my doormen from when I was away over the weekend saying a neighbor had reported that my door was left wide open. I don't think I've ever written a negative review, but this was truly the worst home cleaning experience I have ever had and I wanted to warn others. TL;DR: they tried to charge me additional money part way through the cleaning because the cleaner "needed more time" and left the apartment dirty, with dust, crumbs, and dirt piles throughout. The details: 1. PRICE INCREASE MID-CLEANING: Two hours after the cleaning started, I received an e-mail from Zen Home saying the cleaner needed 30 more minutes, which they would charge me for (65/hour). I said that was not okay, especially since they had already told me the cost and charged me. I also live in a studio apartment, so it seemed very sketchy the cleaner would need to "get used to the layout" as they claimed. When I said no, they told me they could have the cleaner leave, but that would mean he wouldn't do the floors. At this point he'd been there for three hours; the floors are the primary component of cleaning a studio apartment, so I said I wanted the floors done at no extra charge, to complete the service promised. 2. DIRTY APARTMENT: I didn't hear back after the last email, but I got up to my apartment and was genuinely shocked at the condition of it. I will have to clean it myself as you'll see from the pictures I found a) Food crumbs on the coffee table, which clearly hadn't been touched; b) A sticky, unclean kitchen countertop, which hadn't been wiped; c) Dirt and dust piles in various locations on the floor; d) A dirty floor steamer ragged hung over my clean hand towels in the bathroom. I booked Zen Home because I wanted a top-notch, luxury cleaning and was willing to pay top dollar for it. I rarely post reviews, however, I've never been so dissatisfied with a service in my life. I spent $626 for a move out clean of my apartment, where they didn't even clean the kitchen. They claim that I asked for my kitchen not to be cleaned, however, this was not the case and even when I called to clarify that the kitchen should've been included (as per what they promise on their website of their move out clean) they refused to fix the issue and stood by charging me the amount they did for 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, which were also cleaned to subpar measures. The unwillingness to fix the issue in good faith and customer service is very poor, and I am left to now pay another company to do the work that wasn't done. read more

In January, I had Lyenesha and Nicole come by to do a move-in clean after I had a subletter here for a year. My subletter left the place in quite a state of disarray, but the girls got it back to where I like it. It required some extra hours because of the subletter, however, the girls and their boss were most accomodating. I feared that it would take weeks of my cleaning to get it all back to where I would enjoy my apartment again; but after one day cleaning with the girls, all was refreshed and to my liking. We used Zen several years ago and had good experiences overall, so we were looking forward to having them return for a one-time "power cleaning" of our full apartment (under 1500 sq feet): 8 hours of cleaning (4 hours with 2 cleaners.) The power cleaning cost $653. It was supposed to include - among other things - inside the fridge, oven and kitchen cabinets. I did a walk through with the first cleaner to arrive and noted specific areas to focus on: cleaning the inside bottom edges of the windows, kitchen/bathroom grout, under the edges of the rugs, baseboards; dusting. Anything that we pointed out, he said they would be able to do. Once the 2nd person arrived, they both started in the kitchen. One on the oven, the other inside the cabinets. It was not until an hour and a half in, that we were told they needed an additional person to get the job done - because there were too many cabinets to empty and clean. $75/hour per person. At this point, the oven was done (which took her an hour but was very clean - she did a great job on that) but the other cleaner got only 8 shelves done. All of the kitchen shelves were full, and anyone who had looked at them or asked, would have known it would take time to empty and clean and put back. But no one asked on the phone how many cabinets we had. No one asked for pictures to get a good idea of the workload. They based their estimate and promises on square footage, and # of bedrooms and baths. Here's the thing, even with them not asking more about the apartment, we should have been alerted at the walk through. As soon as the Zen cleaner got into the kitchen, he should have opened the cabinets, oven, and fridge to get an assessment. He would/should have known this job would require more than four hours with 2 people. If that had happened, that would have given us the opportunity to make a choice: extend the job and pay more money or prioritize what we wanted to get done in 4 hours. Zen responded that "We always like to have our cleaners get started with the cleaning first, before determining whether additional time is needed." After telling Zen we weren't going over our time, we told the team to prioritized surface cleaning only. We asked if we did that, would they be able to get the rest of the rooms done? They told us they could. They did not. We kept asking them for updates. It looked like there was no way they were going to get everything else done. We were assured they would be able to do it. They did not. It felt like there was no time management. The 2nd cleaner spent well over an hour inside the primary bathroom alone (this is not a large bathroom). She broke one of our new medicine chest glass shelves. Zen told us they would make good on it (at this writing I am waiting for a quote from the medicine cabinet company). At the end of the four hours, one of the team members had to leave for another job but the other stayed overtime (at no cost to us) to at least finish the wood floor. Afterward he asked that I look at everything, and he touched up areas I saw they missed. But even staying later, they weren't even able to touch our bedroom. We wound up having to do the bedroom by ourselves with company coming at 5:30. We were not happy. After some emails back and forth expressing our unhappiness, Zen offered to return to finish the bedroom at no cost. We are passing on that. read more

The cleaner used windex on LED TV ruining it. Permanent swirl marks. This is pretty basic knowledge never to use windex on TV. LED TVs been around for 30 years now. Need better training. Also, while one was doing a good job cleaning, another just loitered around talking. She used windex all over the TV not just the corner. Windex was nowhere near the TV. Supervisor came back with a cleaning solution and I did let her try, but it didn't work. Swirl marks remained. Stop with the lies. read more

I come from a long line of crazy Italian women that make a sport and pasttime out of cleaning their homes. Personally, I like things to be clean, but I can't seem to be able to maintain any kind of acceptable level of cleanliness and order in my apartment. I would rather do anything besides cleaning, so I have to actually suck it up and pay someone to do it, much to my mother's horror. I used Zen Home Cleaning's service three times. The first time, I was told that extra time was needed so that the lady could concentrate on removing the mold from the bathroom tiles. I personally didn't think there was *that* much noticeable mold, but okay, whatever. Then again, whatever product she was using was most likely not that effective, because the shitty chemical-laden stuff that I always would half-heartedly spray in the shower seemed to do the trick in less than 10 minutes, but so be it. When I returned home after the cleaning, I was not happy with the job. First of all, they advertise that they clean underneath furniture. That's nice, but then I was looking in corners and would find the remnants of the mopping, which comes from a poor job sweeping. In fact, I was dissatisfied with the job overall and called back to report this. I was met with all kinds of excuses, no offer for a discount, but assurance that the next time, she would be more thorough. And, to be fair, next time *was* more thorough. It was the same cleaner, and she was very nice and did a much better job. She even went over time and did not charge for it. So, I decided that despite the fact that *no one* I know pays these kinds of prices for a cleaning that after the second time was merely passable, Ithat I liked the fact that it's an environmentally conscious service, plus I love the smells and the extras like the chocolate and tea they leave for you, so I ordered another cleaning. This time, I had someone new. She arrived, not wearing that ridiculous uniform they make them wear (WHY do they do this?), and asked if she could just change in my stairway. THAT should have been a warning sign--why wouldn't she just change in the apartment, I have no idea. This time, I chose to be present during the cleaning, and sat outside on my deck. About a half hour into the cleaning of my bathroom (those darned tiles again!), I overheard her on her cellphone calling the main office. The window in the bathroom borders my deck out back, and I guess she didn't know that. She was *complaining* about the fact that I have 4 cats, and that she would need *much more* than the standard 4 hours, blah blah blah. It was so unacceptably unprofessional and rude, that I almost decided to call and complain. Then I thought back to the last time I dared complain, and figured it wasn't worth arguing with them. She complained several times about my cats (HELLO, it's on my file that I have cats. Why would they send a cleaner that doesn't like them?) and at one point when she was sweeping, asked my boyfriend if he'd remove a dead waterbug she had swept up from somewhere, because she was too afraid. WTF did she expect it to rise up from the dead like a vampire roach or something?? (wait a minute, I guess they *do* that sometimes, but still!!! She's a cleaner, shouldn't she be used to such things? I don't even know where the hell the thing came from, because we get like 1 or 2 of those horrors a year, tops). JUST SPARE YOURSELF THE ECO S**** Its my issue that I was scammed. GREAT. CROOKS I asked for a power cleaning, had to have a inperson estimate, scheduled on for 9am before I had to go to work. 5 hours with 1 cleaner for 50 bucks an hour. I was a bit taken back on the length of time it was going to take. I was thinking 3 hours max. I have a studio apartment (medium size one) Marianna who came from the estimate, in my opinion, is a scam artist. She downplayed the service to be simpler, but when I actually decided to go with company, and schedule a appointment for the power cleaning, and prepaid the money in advance 1 day, I later found out the "power cleaning" is much more extensive than Marianna told me during my estimate. THINGS TO WATCH WITH THIS COMPANY: 1) Red the agreement thoroughly before signing. It is very detailed in your actions and the consequences, and their responsibility for their actions, which is somewhat "whatever they wanna do". They have no agreements where you get your money back really. Its like "if a tornado touched down in NYC, then you get your money back? haha.. seriously crazy 2) A power cleaning (when I was told in my estimate) was surfaces, under the couch, windows, inside the cabinets, inside the frig, oven, and my medicine cabinet in my bathroom, and shelves. She asked me if I wanted them to take the books off the shelve for them, to clean, then replace back. If so, that takes more time, equally more money. I called the service, and the owner Deanna answered (owner) and I told her I was hesitant, because honestly I bad a bad feeling about this. 5 hours for 50 bucks an hour is ALOT OF MONEY! specially for a studio apartment, like I know mad services that clean complete 2 story houses in like 2-3 hours. So obviously this was a risk. On their site, if you look, the company has a 4 hours minimum ( LIKE WHAT?). She told me that, "most clients dont realize that the amoung they are cleaning is cleaning for years, its a lot". She said she would talk to Marianna to get a better understanding of the situation, but then never called me back. 3) so I was like, this is a gift to myself because in a week I'm going on vacation, so I wanted a deep cleaning before I left, so I could enjoy it when I come back. So I go ahead and read the AGREEMENT, READ IT PEOPLE, and I Was like.. damn but ok. Filled out a very long questionnaire where you fill in all the information to them, and your card number for charging IN ADVANCE. Then I get the confirmation. I also have a copy of Marianna estimate that say POWER CLEANING! POWER CLEANING! TWO DOCUMENTS STATING A POWER CLEANING! Saturday 9am. They send Mary and honestly I liked her a lot. She was quick to get to work. I left for about 4 hours, came back and apparently my vacuum stop working (she broke it somehow) I dont know how that happened, but I wasn't exactly heart broke about it. it was like 5 years old, filtered. blah. So I was like, Bed Bath and Beyond is 10 blocks away. I say give me 30 minutes, ill be back. Got a new vacuum, for $170 dollars, that was pretty cheap and honestly it seems really good. and I come back, unpack it and it works. Came in and out several times. She has a cat, I have a cat. She was nice and great. But heres the KICKER!!!!!!!! She was emailed by Mercedes (the receptionist) the day before the appointment saying GENERAL CLEANING!- GENERAL CLEANING WHAT? + WHY? = HUH? I said something, because I noticed the windows weren't, done, neither was the frig, or the cabinets, etc? Mary shows me what she was sent on her phone. GENERAL CLEANING! So I was like. ok... is there a price difference? Mary doesn't know. SO I call the office, office is closed because ITS SATURDAY- NO ONES AT WORK- BUT YOUR Business is still open? SHOCKING Mary was so apologetic and did my frig for me. I liked her so I wasn't gonna be mean to her, or make her life difficult because of their management. Mary explained the difference between the two services, Mariannas version is easier and less work than the one Mary told me. so I was sold on a service that was simplified to be easier and cheaper for them. So after having to hunt down someone to talk to, I was pissed. Estimated to be $250 (5 hour cleaning for 50 bucks an hour) plus tax is $272 plus tip is $332 plus my new vacuum cost equals $500 dollars... I just spent $500 DOLLARS on a maid service that did 1/3 of the cleaning that I was promised...... Then the bigger extended FINALE, DEANNA (OWNER) who was extremely unapologetic or empathetic about anything. She voiced the entire situation as "MY MISUNDERSTANDING" and because I was mad because the lack of professional entirely by this company, she decided fight with me on the phone about how I disrespected the entire staff and how this help review is all lies. BS lady. Finally she only would send someone if I took down this review. She is a very unseasoned business professional who is rude and has no morals besides her pocket gains. read more

Be warned-- this was truly the worst home cleaning service I have ever used. I asked for a two hour cleaning and at the nearly 2 hour mark, they tried to charge me for an additional 90 MINUTES of cleaning because they "needed more time." When I did not approve this extra charge, they left the apartment having only cleaned the bathroom and bedroom and left my entire kitchen and living room completely untouched. I am honestly shocked at the state of my apartment right now and how UNCLEAN it is after having a cleaner here for more than two hours. It's absolutely unacceptable and abominable service. After I called to speak to customer service, they offered no refund for this experience. If you want a top notch, reliable cleaning service that won't gauge you on pricing, I recommend looking elsewhere because you WILL NOT find that with Zen Home. read more

I was very displeased with this service. The cleaning professional needed allegedly 4.5 hours to "deep clean" a 450SF apartment. Upon inspecting the results, there was still considerable cleaning that needed to be done. This includesthe bathroom tile around the border of the bathroom floor and the area behind the toilet. The shower shelf which holds tolietries/shampoo/soap was not cleaned at all. A small area rug in the main living space still had debris on it and obviously wasn't serviced. The inside of the refrigerator was cleaned in a satisfactory manner but the exterior and other appliances were not cleaned. My expectation was to come home to a fresh smelling, sparking apartment but the result was anything but that. So for a fee north of $360 + tip, this certainly was not worth the money. Yes, the service offered to send someone else the next day subsequent to my complaint but I was not home at the time and unable to let them in. Truth be told, after 4.5 hours in a studio and not delivering a satisfactory product, I didn't think someone coming back would do anything to improve the situation, anyway. Zen is always reliable and great. Dondi cleaned up the place really good and I was very happy with it.

My husband and I had major construction work done at our house and had NO idea how we were going to clean up after the work was done. The smell and dust were unbearable. I did some research and found Zen Cleaning and loved that they clean with all organic, non toxic products since I have a 6 month old. They cleaned my entire house to bottom, inside and out, multiple times. They did a spectacular job and left not one piece of dirt behind. The house smelled amazing as they were diffusing essential oils during the process. I would 10000% recommend zen cleaning to anyone who asks.
