Deplorable. Yesterday (12/24/18) I went in for my scheduled manicure. The owner (who sits directly at the entrance) chose not to acknowledge my presence with a standard greeting; clearly a selective behavior as I've noticed he greets others with excitement. I carry on to get my service with my usual tech. Approximately 30 minutes after leaving the nail salon I noticed a chip & advised my tech via text with a photo. She chose not to acknowledge. Backtrack to my visit (12/12/18): Jennifer stepped up to save the day and I appreciate it. There was an apparent mix up with my usual tech (she was out & was asked to return in a couple of hours and when I did so I was met with agitation, rudeness and unprofessionalism by the owner). Upon my return (2 hours) my tech was still not there. The owner accused me of "storming out" without indicating my return. Let me state I am a full grown adult who does not "storm out" of any place. To be accused of such juvenile was insulting. Anyway, my tech still was not there. At this point I'd rearranged my day dependent on the advisement to return. We went back & forth for a few moments (totally unprofessional) with no solutions or apologies being offered. Finally Jennifer stepped in by politely inviting me to her area so she could take care of me. Indeed she did. My nails turned out absolutely beautiful & it only took 30 minutes for her to perfect my powder dip manicure. Her pleasant, professional work kept me from going elsewhere after being a LOYAL Zen Nail client for over 3 years. While being serviced my usual tech walked in; not acknowledging me with a greeting or even an apology. Upon checkout Jennifer apologized for the mix up, offered to schedule my next appointment with my usual tech and extended wishes of a good day. I'll end with this note: Good product does not outweigh bad customer service. A non-problematic, paying individual should be valued & appreciated. ALL CLIENTS SHOULD BE TREATED EQUAL. Owners/managers have a responsibility to treat clients with respect as their behavior will be mimicked by their staff. Poor customer service = a poorly run business. In having options on where I spend my hard earned money. Shame on me for putting up with it this long. I certainly will not patronize this business moving forward. ~Christy read more

Soooo I'm really conflicted about this place. I've been there twice. Once for a gel mani and once for a powder mani and regular pedi. The gel mani I got was good. I really had no complaints about that. The powder mani I went in for recently I was really disappointed with. It was a man that did it and he was using the electric tool thing A LOT. I didn't realize this was a thing unless you were getting acrylics. He cut two of my cuticles with this electric tool and they bled for a couple days. But the weirdest part was he never worked on my cuticles. Like didn't push them back or clip them. I thought this was a normal process for a manicure. So I asked him to cut my cuticles and although he cut them, he seemed surprised that I wanted that done...I mean...what?? The pedicure was awesome. Loved every second of it. So you can see why I'm so conflicted. So be wary when you try this place! read more

Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy! Called ahead to make sure they had someone that does pink and white. They said they did so I tried it. While I waited, I saw a man doing oil and white on another girl and it looked great, and I thought I was waiting for him, so I felt ok. But I got called over by another woman and she clearly didn't know what she was doing. She kept saying I should get a powder dip. I want pink and white powder, like I've gotten the last decade. And she hurt under my nails over and over by sticking her sharp nails too far under my nails. Ouch!! Expensive! $42 for a fill?!?!? I've had fills in LA, San Diego, Boston, Cocoa Beach, and more places. This was the worst pink and white I think I've ever had. Awful. If you want a powder dip, you might be in the right place, but don't come here for pink and white powder! read more

I used to go there about a year ago. This was before many of the other salons were offering powder dip manicure. They had a very nice selection of colors and the manicure always lasted a couple of weeks. However towards the end, the service started going downhill. The manicurist Jennifer was always in a bad mood because she was being overbooked and overworked I guess. The last few times I was there she would be doing someone's nails while starting on my nails. Barely speaking to me and like looking like she couldn't be bothered. When you would come in because a nail broke just days of having been there you would get blamed for banging your nails or being too rough on them. Overall I was not happy and left to find a much better place! Most salons are doing Powder Dip now and they are doing them well along with friendly service! read more

My daughter and I have struggled with ingrown toenails for years as the result of having incorrect cutting at other nearby salons. Came in at 6:30 and this place was packed! I had to wait 15 minutes longer and got taken at 6:45, which wasn't too bad since the manicure was quick and well done. I got a gel powder dip for the first time and I love it! It's a high shine finished look and I was informed it will last about three weeks. Jen also told me how to take it off at home so I don't ruin my nails which was very nice. She was very professional and friendly and knows her stuff. She asked me what color I wanted, I rattled off a number and she immediately blurted out the color's name. Price wise it was very reasonable at $30. I suggest calling ahead to make an appt as they are a popular salon. Overall, a great experience :) Would def come again if I'm in the area for work. read more

My first mani/pedi here was good. My second trip, though, with aesthetician Honny was not. The pedicure was fine, but the whole trip went downhill after he cut 4 cuticles on my right hand with the grinder tool. I thought he'd only cut one, but my this morning I realized all 4 fingers on my right hand were cut and red. Since he said I'd moved as the explanation to why he'd cut the first one (and only one he acknowledged cutting) I'm sure it would be my fault entirely if I went back to complain today. I didn't move; other than likely reflexively jumping when he cut it! I'll just find a different shop where perhaps the grinder isn't used on the cuticles. I guess it's faster for them but the red nicks don't go with the gel mani. read more

Everything about my experience at this salon was terrible. I was looking forward to going in and enjoying a podcast while I got my nails done. The woman kept trying to make conversation THE WHOLE TIME about everything under the sun. Even when I clearly showed I couldn't hear her at first and kept putting back in my headphones after she tried to make a comment and start conversation, she didn't take the hint. To make matters worse, the actual mani pedi was horrific. Half my nails on the sides aren't painted, and there are splotchy parts on my cuticles. It truly looks as if I painted them at home in a hurry. I'm not someone who normally is picky about nail salons, so I'm very adamant when I say DO NOT go here. read more

Raymond runs a clean efficient salon. Zen Nails has been my go to salon for 6 years and the quality of work is always spot on. I would recommend making an appointment as they are usually busy. Zen nails is hands down my favorite place to get my nails done in St. Louis. Although this place is busy, the quality of service is fantastic. I recommend booking an appointment ahead of time. Had a great experience here. I had googled and nail Care and only 6 salons in MO have licensed techs for this Product and zen nails was one of them. They also have had all 5 stars and I know only 5 reviews but good sign. So my gf and I drove our here my gps kept making me pass it which was frustrating but we figured it out. The staff was really nice spoke English, very knowledgeable about the products and services and answered all my questions. They have a HUGE selection of SNS colors. My nails have not chipped or broken or lifted and I have yet to find a product other than this hat holds up with my two-three bartending shifts a week. Great little spa located in Chesterfield Oaks. It is over by the Barnes and Noble side. The price is fairly reasonable compared to others in the area. They have this method, called gel dip, which is a power that they dip your nail into. It goes on a little thicker than a usual gel polish. Just make sure you ask for two dips. :) The staff are super friendly and always willing to help you pick out a color that works best! If you are in the area, check them out! read more

I was looking for a decent place to get a pedicure, so after some searching and reading the reviews for this place, I figured I'd give it a try. Walking in, I was pretty impressed despite no one greeting me. Their decor is nice and they have TONS of colors to choose from. I think I waited about 5-10 minutes before they ushered me back to a pedicure chair (I didn't have an appointment). I got settled in and put my feet in the water to soak...and wait, then wait some more. That's where I started to get a little annoyed. It must have been about 20-30 minutes before they were able to start on my pedicure. The pedicure was ok, I've had better. I will say though that the guy who gave me my pedi did an awesome job on my foot massage! Overall, I guess I'd say if you're going to go here, try making an appointment or else you will have to wait a while. I have no idea how this place gets positive reviews. It is terrible. I went for a powder dip manicure and no fewer than three people worked on me, and it was evident not one had a clue what they were doing. My nails had bumps, waves, and ridges, but the most baffling of all were the deep ridges at the tips of my nails they put there! Rather than filing them with a file, he used a slender drill tip. They were great!!! Best mani pedi I have ever had!!! After seeing previous yelp reviews I made sure I called them to set an appt (called same day for a time a few hrs later) and got in just before 11 on a Monday. There was no wait and they got me right to a pedi station and gave me the best and most thorough pedi I have ever gotten. Lisa did awesome! Then Raymond, the owner, did my nails. He gave me a very meticulous and perfect gel French tip manicure on my natural nails and they looked perfect for my wedding! I am 100% thrilled with their salon and their quality. They did have their cute son there who woke up from his nap around 11:45 but that is ok with me. I love babies (esp Asian ones) and he was so quiet and well behaved. This review is long but worth a read!! If you want your nails to look like a drunk baby did them, then this is the nail salon for you! But if you actually want your nails to look half way decent, and not feel abused during your service then stay far far away from this place! I have been a loyal customer for almost two years and for about the first 6 months was nothing but pleased with my nails. But then thanksgiving 2017 my normal tech Jennifer didn't like that I had made my appointment later in the evening before the holiday! The entire time she made me feel like I was such an inconvenience and made comment the whole time during my appointment. I swore I wouldn't go back but then of course I did! And if you have a nail that breaks or is chipped you are given the third degree and made to feel like a child! Well then this past week I needed to move my appointment I had for Saturday, I called in Thursday and moved the appointment with the owner because I couldn't get in with Jennifer! As I was waiting for the owner Raymond to start my nails I overheard Jennifer talking to her customers about how mad she gets when her customers move their appointments bc then her other people can't get in. To say the least it was very awkward sitting down a couple table and listening to her say this. Well then Raymond starting doing my powder dip mani and asked me the shape I wanted for my nails, I told him that I wanted round and them to be the same length as the two nails I had broken! Not only are my nails all different lengths they are all different shapes too! I learned that there is a new nail shape, diagonal! I paid for my service and left fully upset. I don't even want to write this review because people will see it and Zen will get even busier, which seems impossible... Took Teen 1 here last night for mani/pedi for prom, which is today (Yay!) Looked at my toes and decided to also get a pedicure while I was there. We had great service, a great experience, their prices are reasonable, and everything they did looks amazing. That said, there are a few things people should know before visiting this place: 1. MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. Even if you have an appointment there could be a short wait because they are always really busy. Always. One woman told me that she arrived without an appointment and they were able to work her in, but it was a several-hour process to get a mani-pedi. They do accept walk-ins, but I woulldn't recommend it unless you bring a meal and a book. 2. They offer 3 levels of pedi's and the differentiators between the levels are: callous removal, sugar scrub for your legs, and the level of leg massage that you receive. It's early enough in the summer that my Kentucky feet are not super-calloused, so I went with the basic. 3. They have three types of manicures as well: powder, gel, and basic. Basic is just like what it sounds - they shape your natural nail and put your nail polish of choice (from their wall of 10,000) on it. Gel colors are painted on some plastic rings of nails that they keep in the desk at the front. There are only about 5,000 of these. They use your natural nail and put the gel color on it. It cures under a special light and is dry and hard almost immediately. Gel is less durable than powder but way more than just natural nail. Powder colors are also painted on the plastic rings of nails on the front desk and there are also about 5,000 of them to choose from. Teen 1 got gel because the "perfect" color was a gel polish, so I don't know too much about the powder. They can put tips on with it, it is supposed to last two weeks even for people like me who are hard on nails, and only two of their techs can do powder. Be careful that you pick a color from he Powder rings if you want powder - we thought we were picking powder and waited for a powder tech and then found out that we had picked a gel color that anyone could do. They were very good about explaining the different manicures to me for next time, and the feeling that they were talking about the customers in Korean was very minimal compared to other places. read more

I've been back several times to this place and each time I come back they continue to impress me! Once when I was here it was around 730 (they close at 8) and I had a friend along they offered to still give us both a mani/pedi. This last time I heard on the phone the owner telling a customer that yes we close in 15 minutes but if she wanted to come in they would do her nails. That's so considerate! The last time I was in my friend had a special shellac nail done where there were two coats that were layered for a unique look and the woman who did them was not as proficient as one might would prefer considering how much we are paying for them. The owner saw the job and insisted that the job be redone because she could not allow someone to leave the nail salon without a perfect nail job. Each time I come back I'm more and more impressed with the staff competence and welcoming feeling I receive. They are all so kind to everyone there. I have been a long time customer of Zen Nails but will never go here again. I gave this nail salon 2 final tries really hoping it was just a bad day or something. Here is my story with this salon. I have been a customer for over 2 years. I get gel nails and full pedicure roughly every 4 weeks. Over the last year this salon has gone down hill. I used to see a tech named Amy who was amazing. Something happened though and she is no longer there. The other woman there are nice but the quality of work is horrible. The last 2 times were the final straw. There is a woman there with braces who got me both times. She hurt me so bad! (She hurt me both times fyi...) In addition to hurting me she filed my nails crooked and did a terrible job painting them! She took 2 old nail polish colors... mixed them together and started to paint my nails with them. I asked for a new bottle to which she said no it was fine. The paint was all goopy which is exactly how it looked on my nails! I left almost not wanting to pay for the services as they were so bad. Finally, there is a baby (an infant) there that is one of the owners children. I want to get my nails done and relax away from my kiddos, not be with an infant. (Which, is that even legal, I mean there are a lot of chemicals there...) Bottom line... I am searching for a new place. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone. I would not even give this place one star but it is required to write a review. read more

After first discovering Zen & Raymond, I was ecstatic. He utilize the dipping method that I so loved and took his time and my nails look great. I tipped very generously each time because I thought he deserved it. Then, as he became accustomed to me schedule appointments took a turn for the worst. I would have to wait and wait. Then, Raymond would say that he was way behind and would rush me through. I still continue to tip generously hoping that he was just going through something.The very last two times were horrendous experiences. I will share in detail of the very last experience. I had paid extra for designs to be put on both of my big toes with someone new and paid quite a bit for the service and tipped very well. Again Ramen had to let someone else work on me part of the time because he was behind and in a rush. After my arrival at home, after paying over $100, ( and I must add that I'm a single working mom) it was very noticeable that the designs on my two big toes had smeared and come off after the new girl had said that my pedicure was already dry and I may add that the pedicure was what I did first. Also, after being there about three hours, I had not realize how awful my manicure locked. It was all scaly around my nails whether it was glue or whatever, it was actually worse than the time before. My manicure to not look as though it was worth $50 or more with the gratuity. So after the girl repaired my toe polish, I asked her if she could clean it up around my nails. And I had planned on giving her gratuity for doing this. Then Raymond's mother-in-law came over and talked in another language and went on and on right next to me which can't be considered very rude because I knew they were talking about me. For the five minute procedure, I was going to give her $10. I asked her what his mother-in-law had said and she said that they would have to charge me $10 for doing this. I called the mother-in-law over and said I want to speak to you. I explain to her what my nails look like and she could see them as well. I told her I wasn't trying to get anything for free and have been there the day before and spent over hundred dollars which she had seen me there. She said oh you must not of paid to have your cuticles done. That is so crazy I have never been charged extra anywhere when I get a manicure to have cuticles done. I explained to her how much I paid and the tap and she just laughed and said oh that Ramen you need to tell him next time to do your cuticles. I have been going there two times a month. I would get a manicure and then into weeks get a manicure and a pedicure her. As I was leaving, when the girl handed his mother-in-law the $10 Ramen looked at his mother-in-law and said something and his language and which I think he wasn't happy that I was being charged. But again they let me go out the door and that was when I said I will never be back. I wanted to share this experience with others because I happened to be on the Missouri consumers board and there are so many nail places out there, who are not just about money and value and respect their clients. I have been blessed to find a wonderful place in town and country and they are just that and their facility is new and beautiful and so immaculately cleaned. Although they are Asian, they speak in English in front of aunt to their customers. They never talk in their own language and laugh to each other as I experienced at Zen!! I would never make someone feel humiliated or small or as though you were talking about them in any circumstance. It is not kind. In hindsight, I only hope that Zen begins to practice good customer service and politeness to their clients. Namaste read more

Powder dip is amazing especially when it is done properly (other salons are no match) and it lasts 2 weeks minimum oftentimes much longer! Way better than gel and well worth the $30 plus tip. Pretty average nail salon. Some techs are better than others, which is the case at most salons. The first time I was here I got gel polish. The woman did a fine job, nothing spectacular. She was very fast (I haven't decided yet if that is good or bad), and not particularly personable. The second time I got the powder dip manicure which seems to be their claim to fame. After getting a close look at the powder I realized it is SNS, which I had actually gotten elsewhere only not colored. I'm not sure what all the hype is about this SNS powder. When you take it off your nails are just as damaged as if you had a full acrylic set. I get that it has vitamins and stuff but to me that doesn't really seem to make a difference. Maybe it has less chemicals, fine, but I wouldn't call this "good" for your nails. Anyway, the guy that did it did an awful job. He ground down my nails WAY too much. I'm not even sure what's left under this powder. He also filed them very strangely. Some are round and some have crooked flat edges. He didn't even touch my cuticles nor did he put any lotion or anything on my hands after. I was very disappointed and will not be back. I think this might be only a good place if you've gone here a long time and they know you. Would not recommend. read more

I got the powder gel here, and I loved it. It lasted forever and looked great. When I went in to have it taken off, I requested a no-polish mani. The powder gel takes FOREVER to come off through a series of soakings and dremel tool grindings but ok, for as well as it lasted I figured that would have to be the case. The woman doing my nails asked me three times what shape I wanted. I said short and rounded. She made them long and square. I had her fix it and she said "oh you want round?" Really? You asked me several times and I pointed out exactly how I wanted it. But ok, annoyance but I'll let it go. Then it started to become apparent how thin, brittle, flaky, and yellow my nails had become. She and the man (who I think is the manager/owner maybe?) both denied it was the powder gel's fault, citing "all the vitamins" in the powder gel. I showed them my nails, and all the residue and nastiness left on them, and they just said well powder gel doesn't work for everyone. And this is all on top of the fact I was in that chair for about 45 minutes for a no polish mani bc the woman worked sooooo slow. She stopped to chat, and just physically moved in slow motion. Even after I told her I was on a time crunch. When I asked for a the buff and shine (a standard part of a no polish mani) she has no idea what I was talking about. They didn't even have a proper buff and shine square, so she scrounges something up and tells me it'll be an extra $2. By the time she was done with one hand it was obvious it wasn't going to help the look of my nails after the gel so I asked her to stop. They were so rude here, so slow, and took no accountability whatsoever for the mess of my nails. I've done normal gel and shellac before, and they aren't kind to your nails but not as bad as this.
