First off, this place is extremely over priced. I only went here because my acrylic nail started to come off and it was close to my home. I really wish I would have just drove to the place where I usually go. I asked for her to remove all my acrylic nails. She begun by yanking the nails off with a flat tool. I told her it hurt too much and that she needed to soak my nail in acetone. Well after soaking my nails for a few minutes she started scraping at my nails with the powered tool. She filed my nail beds down to nothing with the tool then afterwards she takes a very rough nail file and scrapes them all up. I had several dents and holes in my nail bed. Very painful experience. PLEASE DO YOURSELVES A FAVOR AND DON'T GO HERE, THEY WILL RUIN YOUR NAILS. read more

I am not high maintenance but there is one thing that I am very particular about: my eyebrows. Maybe it's because I am Mexican and I am deathly afraid of looking like a hoochie mama with them sharpied on brows. (I have cousins that do this and it is NOT pretty!). Maybe it's because I once entrusted my eyebrows to a no name salon and ended up looking like Kris Kross of the 90's. There is only one girl who has ever gotten my eyebrows right and she happens to be shopped up at a salon in Suburbia. I hate everything about suburbia, but I would drive to the other end of the earth for her magic eyebrow touch. Suburbia brow girl couldn't get me in this week and I knew that if I didn't do something fast I would start resembling Spok from Star Trek. Zen is a new place in town and to be honest, eyebrows were not on my mind when I walked in the door today. I needed a mani/pedi and I figured that if they messed it up too bad I could always hide my toes in some winter boots. The place was decorated tastefully and it was sparkling clean. The staff was friendly and eager to accommodate. I plopped myself down in one of their massage chairs and caught up on the latest celebrity gossip via their People magazine. While I was getting my toes done, I noticed a couple of girls going in the back to get their brow wax on. I didn't even consider it until I watched how my nail technician put so much detail and thought in to making my toes look perfect. (Extra points for not talking shit about me in her native tongue like I am accustomed to at so many other nail places). I continued to watch suspiciously out of the corner of my eye while I moved on to the manicure table. I inquired about the waxing and she replied that it was only $7! $7 is almost half the price of suburbia girl so I grew even more suspicious. I was about to shrug it off, pay for the nails and get out of there until I caught a glimpse of myself in the window reflection and grew mortified that I would really be mistaken for Spok when I showed up at my friends party tonight. SO, just like that, I put my eyebrows in the hands of a perfect stranger. I never considered myself a cheater but today I cheated on suburia girl and I could not be happier! I went out to spend time in St. John's. I decided to stop in to "Zen Nails" and get a pedicure and full set. The surroundings were suspect, it's a companies business to clean up around there establishment, however, so many do not "Zen Nails" being one of them. I still though that maybe with their dirty surroundings, nasty windows and doors they could still be capable of providing good service. Nope! I wanted to ask the woman inside on 04/08/2022 @ 4:10 p.m. a few questions and she just kept waving at me from behind the counter. She never approached the door, she did not have a customer, I was fully masked and dressed idk maybe it was the braids. I will not return and I actually found a better establishment on Lombard and Interstate in the Fred Meyer parking lot. Place could use a good cleaning. Not sure it's the most sanitary salon I've been to. They decline to tell you that they only accept cash until you are done, and then point to the ATM conveniently located inside their salon. My tech wasn't very friendly and kept checking her cell phone during my manicure. Nice to have a salon in the hood, but probably won't be back due to cleanliness factor. $30 for a decent shellac manicure. read more

Don't waste your money here. Called yesterday to schedule a French tip gel pedicure. Came in today and the lady that attended me was really nice but her work was so sloppy. She proceeded to paint my nails super fast as more customers were coming. I needed my big toenail fixed bc it was super short so she applied acrylic to it. She left it extremely long, so uneven. The French tips were so crooked and I kid you not she did all of this including the massage in 35 min. All for $55? No thanks. Never coming here again. read more

Just had a fab pedicure here for the first time. Called as I was leaving work and the were waiting for me, greeting me by name when I arrived. Place is clean, techs are friendly, and the leg massage was nice and unhurried. Also a relief that they aren't aggressively trying to sell you other services like some places I've been. I found everything I wanted at Zen Nails. I love the atmosphere and it's CLEAN!!! The staff is very friendly and extemely accommodating. I can't put into words how great this place was. I took my sister here as a gift of a pedicure and waxing after she had my beautiful nephew. To say that I wasn't disappointed would be a understatement. It was a beautiful experience. Calming atmosphere. Relaxing vibrating chairs. Magical hands massaging. And even better waxing attention. Not one painful moment in that room which is a huge surprise. Price was about normal for the amount of services we asked for. We made an appointment as they didn't offer walk in services on Sunday. I'm glad that was the case as I have had numerous experiences where my pedicure or manicure was rushed because new clients came in with no appointment (not this place). Stopped I'm with a friend to get a main and pedi done. First of all I thought max my bill would be like 60 bucks. I got shellac on my toes and fingers. My toes turned out great, however they didn't use the hot wax, nor did they use new tools on me. They have really cute chairs which offer a great massage, they are quick, and friendly. However this place needs a good scrub down, they need to use sterilized tools, they dont need a community brush at there sink, and the lady with the cracked hands needs to take a moment or put on gloves. It scares me when you cut my cuticle and tell me to use the community brush in the bathroom to scrub my nails. Its not settling when the person who is touching your nails and feet has broken open hands/wounds that are cracked and bleeding and dry. So my bill came out to 85 bucks....not including tip. It's been exactly a week and my nails are already peeling from the back. My toes look great but my legs and feet aren't smooth. I can go to my regular nail salon paradise nails and I can get a shellac manicure and pedicure and wax and dye my eye brows all for 90.00. I would be at my nail salon for a minimum of 2.5 hrs and I was here for an hour and a half and it was rushed service. read more

This place about throws you in the chair. Doesn't tell you how much more shellac is going to be. Pushes your legs in and out of the water and finishes a mani/pedi shellac in 20 mins. Bumps all in my shellac, isn't careful when putting your fingers in the shellac oven. And for this I paid $75! Terrible, just terrible. Go somewhere else. read more

I'm not sure if it was sold or just under new management but the last time I was in there, the usual lady (I think she was the owner) who would always greet me and ensure that I got settled in with whatever service I was having done was not there. They are cash only now, (used to take credit cards) and the prices went up. I called and made an appointment for a Saturday mani/pedi. I specifically asked for Katelyn since the reviews sung the praises of "Katelyn." When I got there, I waited 30 minutes past my appointment time and got a random person. When I asked if her name was Katelyn she started to say Katelyn didn't work there anymore, only to be interrupted mid-sentence by the person who took my appointment, who said something to her in Vietnamese, which made her hesitant to completely finish her sentence. Needless to say I was confused and irritated with the fact that I didn't get the person I specifically came to see and they were dishonest in how they scheduled me. They had three people working on a Saturday and there were about eight customers waiting. I felt super rushed and when the pedi was complete I opted to decline the mani. My rushed experience was the compete opposite of "Zen." The pedi I had was pretty good considering how rushed the gal was but the overall experience left a bad taste in my mouth. 50/50 probability of returning here if I can't find another decent place in NOPO. I had my first set of acrylics put on here about a month ago. We had a short wait but they were super nice once I sat down, and understood I was nervous and let my dad sit next to me and offered me refreshments. The woman who did my nails was extremely nice and understood what I wanted and spent a good amount of time making sure that my request for short, rounded nails was met. They were super nice and I had a wonderful experience, until about a week later. Three of my acrylics had cracked and parts had lifted off, so I went back to Zen and asked if they could fix them for me, and give me tips on how to prevent that from happening again(I had used no acetone remover, had worn gloves when cleaning and been very careful.). With no wait, I was invited to a chair to explain what had happened. They said this was common in teens, due to oily nails, and I was skeptical because I take ceramics classes and my hands are normally very dry, but she insisted that teens have a lot more oil on their nails due to touching their hair and face. Instead of just fixing the three that had peeled, they filed and redid all of my nails again, making sure that they were perfect, short, round. Again, they offered to paint and decorate my nails. Best of all, they fixed my nails free of charge. it was completely unexpected and I was completely stunned by their service. I will be going back to these sweet , sweet women again. Great service, friendly atmosphere, highly skilled owner. The salon is clean and spacious. She has a visibility problem, as her sign is hidden behind a major bus line/break spot, but keep looking!
