I usually have great experiences here when I do the standard gel polish colors but was disappointed with the chrome manicure I got tonight. It was my first time getting this metallic chrome and it was a bit more involved (and more expensive). Sadly my nails ended up so thick, messy and blotchy. Not to mention they've already started chipping after an hour! My cuticles also took a beating and were bleeding at one point. This manicure is for my 40th birthday party in Palm Springs in two days. I came here for a mani pedi for my son's wedding. I picked it because my best friend's mom owned this shop many many years ago when it was a hair salon. We had stopped in on a previous day of shopping and lunch on Hawthorne street to show her the shop. The owner was super friendly and invited us in. I live in San Diego so didn't have a nail place in Portland. After this encounter I decided to come back. I got a Gel Builder manicure. I had never heard of it before. They explained that you don't have the gel removed each time you can just have it filled in. They don't have to soak in acetone. They file away the color when you come to get the fill done. I loved it and the color was perfect. I would highly recommend that type of service and this place. read more

Received a pedicure. First time I have been to this spot on Hawthorne. Halfway through the procedure, another woman took over because she didn't know how to do a particular nail technique for the client she had, and the pedicure woman changed places with her. O.K., a bit odd, but I went with it. The thing is that neither employee really connected with me as a client. They talked with other staff a great deal, and they were polite with me, but I felt disconnected from the service provided. At one point, one of the women roughly scrubbed a sore spot. Once, twice, three times. Each time I pulled back in pain. After the third time, she asked if I was in pain? Why did it take her three times and onto the fourth before she stopped? Why else would I pull back and make a sound like I did? They charged extra for a credit card payment, and then they don't want to add the tip onto the credit card amount?!? So, I had to have cash (or Venmo?) I had made an appointment, but when I came in they asked me what I wanted and didn't ask for my identification. It was as I had just walked off the street? At the end , they asked me for my contact info and then my appointment came up? But the machine couldn't easily go through the various steps in order for me to finish payment. The whole thing felt like an amateur experience that I would not like to duplicate again. For what I got, the price seemed high. The best part of the experience was the massage that the second gal gave me at one point in the process. It did relax me, which I needed. read more

Made a pretty last minute appointment for two pedicures. My girlfriend and I were both pleased! The shop was busy, but we were taken right in, treated well & our pedis came out great!! I wanted to add an update since it's been a while and these nails keep getting WORSE. I want to say I've been getting nails for over fifteen years and never had this happen before. The paint is chipping down the the fake nail in spots, and just holes to other polish layers in others. I'm not sure if she up-charged me for gel and didn't give it to me, didn't fully cure the layers between coats, or what but it's HORRIBLE. I paid well over $200 to come here and be treated poorly and be given hands down the WORST nails I've ever experienced. I was a little thrown off by the appearance of this place. It's a very small salon with like 5 tables all pushed together in a line & 5 pedicure chairs with two small chairs for waiting. I got a gel manicure which was $25 plus and extra $5 for a nail file & buffer kit I had to buy there since I didn't bring one. I was visiting from out of state, and I learned this is a law in Oregon. She cut my nails with toe nail clipper sized clippers, then applied cuticle oil. She cut my cuticles nicely and began filing to shape my nails. After she painted them and then they rubbed lotion on my arms for about 2 mins. Not a very fancy manicure. My complaint would be my nails weren't all the same length. Also, due to their lighting the polish I chose looked more nude then when I left looked more purple. She was really nice and I have no complaints over there customer service so if I'm ever in the area again I would go back. read more

I have been here several times over the years and don't think I'll be going back. There is too much miscommunication and lack of professionalism. I called to ask if they are cash only and they said no, they did accept credit cards with a small fee. However, I came to learn that when they meant yes, they meant you can use your card to access an ATM because it is indeed cash only. I made an appointment days in advance and when I came in, it was so busy with people. We had to wait for staff and they kinda just shrug you off. They also wouldn't let me get my nails done after (didn't give me a reason why), even though I'd be willing to wait. What makes me write this review is how my toes turned out after. I got a deluxe pedicure ($60) and they ended up cutting my toe during, so it burned throughout the whole treatment. They saw it but didn't say anything. Also, the color I wanted was goopy so they picked me a different color, and then sent me home without them being completely dry. I came home with a bloody toe and messed up polish. I wish I had just done them at home. If you're looking to get your nails done on Hawthorne save yourself trouble and just go to TT Hawthorne Nails two blocks away. read more

I asked for the French tips to be thicker so you couldn't see my nail underneath, and you can still see them. Not to mention they charged me $15 for French tips without mentioning it! They just did not look good. I called and said I was unhappy with my nails, as I saw in their previous negative reviews they offer a 7 day guarantee. They told me to come back in. But I get there today and they tell me I am going have to pay again. So no, there is no guarantee if you didn't get the nails that you want. The guy that did my pedicure clearly did not want to be there and is very horrible at his job, but it's pointless asking me to choose from regular nail polish if you don't have gel polish that matches or even comes close. They cram as many appointments in as possible so it is definitely not going to be a relaxing experience. The massage remote was busted and even though the lady tried her best to recover mt remote pedicure and overall experience, my fingernails (thumbnails in particular) look like shit. They charged me $2 because I didn't bring my own nail file (I wasn't told and I've never in my life had this happen) and they keep their tools in pencil boxes so I have no idea whether they're sanitized properly. When I asked, they looked at me like I was crazy. I'm used to going to salons that have the clearly sterilized equipment, individually sealed. I got shellac nails done for an interview and a few days in, you can really see the bubbles on my thumbnails. Extremely disappointed and what I feel is a waste of money. I came in for a mani and pedi. I picked out my colors and sat down in the chair. I was told that the OPI colors that I picked were an extra $3. So, $6 total. Kinda ridiculous, because I can buy a whole bottle for that much. I said that I would change to another brand. I usually pick OPI, because it's the fastest drying in my experience. My mani ended up being $20 and pedi was $33, which is way more than I recall services being previously. And I felt like I didn't get a full service, because neither service included any massage. My nails just got cut, shaped, and painted. In the end, I was also rushed out the door because the staff wanted to leave 30 mins earlier than the posted time. The woman who helped put my slides on didn't tell me that she ruined the polish on my big toe. I walked to my car with my feet pushed as forward as I can and noticed the ruined color when I got to my car. The next day, my fingertip was infected where the cuticle was cut too deeply. Luckily the swelling subsided after a few days. But on day 2, I was worried I'd need to go to urgent care. So, I'm also not sure how exactly sterile this place is. read more

Just visited this gem and was pleasantly surprised by how professional, friendly and efficient this place was! I used a ClassPass for a portion of this service for a gel manicure. I was in and out within 40 minutes and I am in LOVE with how my nails look. I was hoping to use a color offered in the samples, but they had run out of the color and helped me pick something fairly similar. I felt safe and noticed how staff kept the place so clean! This most recent visit I got a shellac manicure and it's lasted me 2+ weeks without chipping. I'm actually getting them removed purely because my nails have grown out. The last place I went to (supposedly a high-end trendy & edgy place), my shellac was "sticky" even after they re did the shellac twice, and I ended up removing them within a week because it kept getting cotton/clothing stuck to my nails, plus it had already started "lifting" on the edges. So basically, I paid close to 40% more for a bad manicure. This nail shop is definitely worth it. read more

I've gotten my nails done probably only 8 times in my life, so I don't know much about nails personally but the staff were happy to help me choose between shellac and regular polish for both my manicure and pedicure. (Regarding there was less than an hour remaining before closing- and I was simply a walk-in customer- they were much nicer to me than I would've expected) The ladies did a wonderful job on my toes, (french tips) as well as my hands, (American French tips¿ I think). Even going as far as to double check with me that I liked the length, shape of my nails, etc before moving to the next step.
