This place used to be such a hot spot, but COVID has hit them very hard. I've decided to go back and walk through memory lane. I've ordered all the normal like before; pork ribs, water spinach with crispy pork, dry fried salad, lad na, papaya salad, sushi rolls, etc. I drove 20 miles for a pick up which costed me about $230 after tip and man I think the kitchen staff has changed. The food was super salty where we had to throw most of it away since we couldn't try to finish it. The sushi was not edible as if the fish has been there and not prepared correctly at the right temperatures. That's the end of memory for me. I have dined at Zenna well over 100 times, and if the few reviews I've written about them say anything, it's that their quality of service seems to change almost as frequently as their management. But my experience there last night was unlike any other thanks to a server named Lyn who I had not seen before. Lyn does not belong at Zenna, she belongs at Abacus or The French Room. How Zenna scored a server like her is beyond me. Lyn was perfect. She came out promptly after we were seated to say hello: she was easy to understand and very upbeat. Everything she did gave the impression that the quality of our experience was important to her. She brought our drinks quickly. When taking orders she asked all the right questions to make sure everything came out just as we wanted it. When the lamb chops weren't out yet, she noticed it before we did and said she'd go check on them. She knew one person in our party did not like spicy, so when bringing the Tom Kha Soup (sharing size), she proudly proclaimed that this one would be "just the right spicy" for the spice-lovers, but not too much for the others. She was dead-on! She was always quick to refill drinks and clear plates we set aside. The icing on the cake, which I always appreciate, is that she put the pasta in a to-go box for us. I strongly dislike being left with boxes and bags to take care of myself, and her doing this for us table-side was nice. (I actually prefer this to taking it back in the kitchen because I can see it the whole time and know how it is laid out in the box (e.g. lots of liquid so don't turn sideways). Our order last night consisted of: Lamb Chops - Served with moderately bland mashed potatoes, but the meat was delicious and perfectly tender. Chilean Sea Bass - They did such a good job on this. Slightly crispy on the outside, hot enough to burn just a bit, but bursting with flavor. Tuna Tar Tar - Tasted fresh, came out fast, very good dish. Family-Size Tom Kha Soup w/ Chicken - Mildly spiced with the lightest kick, everyone enjoyed it. Heavy on the liquid-to-stuff ratio, I'd probably ask for extra mushrooms or more chicken next time. Retro Roll - Delicious and probably the best deal on their rolls. It's basically a Philadelphia roll topped with salmon and white tuna. They serve it with fresh jalopeno which you may not enjoy, but it's easy to take off. Tuna Roll - Hard to go wrong here. Hawaiian Pasta Chicken - I thought it was a little too saucy but the person who ordered it liked it. I guess I wasn't in a pineapple mood. Great food, great service, great prices. After having a terrible experience at the Zenna's in downtown Dallas, I was skeptical about trying out the one in Plano. I gave it a chance and ordered Pad Thai with tofu with a spice level of 4. Let me tell you, the portions are huge! So you can definitely take the leftovers home and save it for another meal. I was expecting a spicier Pad Thai but it turned out to be more sweet than spicy. Hands down my favorite Thai food in the DFW area. There have been times when I have taken takeout from this restaurant over 12 times in one month... Zenna has a unique taste that no matter how many different Thai restaurants I try, I keep coming back to. I've had several of the fried rices and noodle dishes, along with a few of the sushi. My favorite dish is the pad kee mao or drunken noodles. A great thing about Zenna is the spice scale they have, 1 - 5 and 5 is truly Thai spice and packs a punch, unlike any other Asian restaurant. However, while the food is what brings me back, the service is can be a hit or miss. The servers are either good or they're not. The perks about Zenna include the location for me and the hours, this place is open late on weekdays!! I've been to the Zenna in downtown, food and service are decent. We recently move to Plano so decided to drop by the Zenna near the house. WORST decision ever!!!! Host walk us to our table, and we waited for 15 mins with out anyone approaching us. After 15-20 minutes of waiting, our waitress finally shows up! My husband told her we have been waiting for this long, her response was "they just told me about this table,anyways are you ready to order???" OMG! Without an apology or whatsoever. I forgot her name, but she has a loud voice and bad attitude. We ordered the pork ribs--- good Thai low Mein---good Caterpillar and dragon roll---- AWEFUL!!!! The eel was fishy... And the shrimp tempura inside the roll was stale and soggy. On top of that, I got a fly stuck into my Dragon roll!!! ( I don't need the damn extra protein) We normally don't complaint even if the service is horrible, but this time is a must. We asked for the manager, and the staff said he's out delivering??? (Why are u delivering????" Anyways, we told them what happened... And guess what?!?! The manager told the waiter to give us 10% discount instead of taking my rolls off the bill. Seriously?!?! We have always loved Zenna and usually only go to this location we have had a bad experience at the newest location in Mesquite and have stayed away for awhile. My husband and I decided last minute to have our rehearsal dinner at this location. It wasn't planned and totally unexpected. We left our wedding venue and he called and said Zenna? I said mmm yes! We didn't have our entire party because it was 4pm on a Friday coming from Mckinney to Plano so frickin' 75. Js. My only issue is that they wouldn't seat our whole party. There were five of us there and we were waiting on 6 more. I know it's happy hour and all but we weren't lying and we're gonna have a nice check. Once we got seated our waitress was flipping amazing. We had cocktails, water, sodas for the kids, and beers. She seriously was a ninja because my water was always refilled and I never even saw her. Kudos. Everything was perfect! The food was great! I love Zenna. I really do... especially during happy hour (mainly come here for the sushi + beer tower... I recommend ordering the shrimp tempura roll). The Pad Thai is also pretty good. However, lately the service hasn't been the greatest. Not sure what's been going on lately but it isn't what it used to be. Servers used to be attentive and helpful and now it takes forever to order, get drinks and the wait for our food was ridiculous y'all. If you're patient and don't mind waiting for your food, come here. If not, stay away from Zenna. Hopefully my next visit is better than the last one. I am a big sushi love as well as a happy hour person. They have happy hour from 3-7. Their sushi was not good. The rice was sweet! That is not normal. It took away the taste of the fish which wasn't too fresh as well. It was hard for us to finish the sushi since it was so sweet. We had the eel roll, tuna roll, yellow tail roll and salmon nigiri. Their 2 dollar margarita was really small and it was hard to drink it with the tiny straw that was given since it was super thick and frozen. The sake was okay kinda generic. I would not come back here again. We tried to get the server's attention because they only gave us 2 plates and chopsticks but we had three people but she was rude to us and gave us a look. I am a Thai junkie and wasn't overly impressed with Zenna but I do have to give them props for their awesome happy hour! Their drinks are delish and most of the tapas I have had are fairly good as well. They also have a native thai menu like Nandina's, in fact I want to say that they are under the same owners. Their soups were impressive but their main entrees are what lacked pizazz for me. Whenever I go to Zennas I stick to their tapas and drinks. The sushi is okay and the wait staff is pretty friendly but can be inattentive sometimes. I do want to mention that if its your birthday the staff will come out with a a big thai drum wearing masks and a traditional dragon costume to sing happy birthday to you. The BF and I are huge fans of their sister restaurant, Zhabuki so why not try their other sibling? I have to admit that thai and japanese food is a random combo. But I can see it being a good thing when you're craving multiple things! We came late Saturday night at around 9:30 and a guy quoted us a 25 minute wait. He said we can sit at the bar and we did. Unfortunately within 15 minutes half the restaurant begin to empty out. Since we already ordered we were stuck at the bar. The bartenders were super nice though. The thai tea was delicious! Just like I would expect. I ordered the tom yum soup with chicken, spring rolls, and the midnight roll. I loved the spring rolls. Super crispy and the portion was generous for an appetizer. The tom yum soup had great flavor as well. I definitely would go back just for this two items. The midnight roll was okay. The roll was served warm which made me a little nervous but thankfully I didn't get sick. I did not enjoy their spicy mayo... it tasted more like a watered down thousand island dressing. The BF had a spicy thai fish dish. He really liked his dish but when I tried it... I wasn't a fan. The curry sauce was too sweet for my liking. So I've gone back to Zenna for happy hour recently, and things have definitely changed. Service was odd. Server didn't seem to know what was going on. Everything came out incredibly slowly, even drinks, which took about 20 minutes. Foods that should be hot were cold from the moment they hit our table. Dumplings seemed reheated, not fresh. Sushi order was wrong, took a ludicrous amount of time, and tasted off (so much so that we didn't eat much of it). Not really sure what has happened, but we will not be back again. read more

I've come here many times for their happy hour specials (daily until 7pm), but each time I go, the food gets worse. Most recently, I branched out to try their Pad Thai. As I usually get sushi when I come here, I wanted to try something new. If you look at the pic I posted, you can tell it was so incredibly lacking. There was no flavor whatsoever. It did have a hint of ketchup (??), but there was no cilantro/basil, no veggies, and the meat was so tough and chewy. I was so disappointed. We always get a Midnight Roll when we go, but the rolls keep getting smaller and smaller. I wouldn't come back here again. First things first, I'm writing this review for Zenna's happy hour. I haven't been here for an actual meal, but for the stark selection of places Plano has to offer for late night outings, Zenna does the trick quite well. Drinks are cheap, tapas and snack bites are pretty good, and the ambiance is chic and dimly lit. Great for young people who want a place to hang out. One thing to note is the noise level: as there aren't many booths to block sound and the interior is more like one giant room, voices tend to travel easily. Now I really wasn't impressed with the drinks or bites (which are more along the side of 3 stars, and I'm going to bet the same for their entrees), but I'm giving this place another star because of the fact that Plano really doesn't have a lot of other places similar to Zenna asides from maybe Sambuca 360 at the Shops at Legacy. That is, night owl hangouts for the restless. And they pull things off rather well. Anyways, onto the food. Heaven Beef was more like beef jerky than I would have liked, but it came with a tangy dipping sauce. The sushi was passable as well, and the samosas in particular were American-tasty. (Can't go wrong with fried mashed potatoes.) The tapas selection was well designed and went well with the drinks, and all for a reasonable price. My mom got a Cosmo, which tasted kind of watered down, but the Long Island Iced Tea was better. Our waitress was sweet and accommodating and overall we had a good time. Delicious! I've been here twice & have yet to be disappointed. For the price, you really can't go wrong with coming here. I'm sure our experience might have been different if we came during a rush, but our waiter was efficient & we were in and out within an hour! The food is a solid 5/5. I recommend the fried rice (any of them) and their spice levels aren't crazy, so I got a level 3. The day the food was way below their standard. Anything that had me seaweed wrap included as part of the dish, well let's just say it was tough, chili, dry. The edamame was just shy of al dente between somewhere between raw and al dente would be the best way to describe it. The beer was cold but not as cold as usual. If you only get one thing from my review, this is what you need to get. The spice level is Thai based. Pace Picante Hot Sauce on the Thai scale is a 1. If you don't know what to get but you want some spice, get 1. If you can handle a lot of spice, get a 2. 5 is basically intolerable. Remember, you can choose 0 for your choice of spice level. I was craving sushi so I got the Plano Roll and a Salmon Roll. They were both quite good and the wasabi was fresh. You know when you get wasabi and no matter how much you put on your food, it still won't clear your sinuses? This stuff was not old. The Wife got the Pineapple Fried Rice and she asked for it to be made with a 2 on the spice level. She told me that it was too spicy and that she was having a hard time eating it. After I finished my rolls, I ate about half of her dish and it was pretty good, though it was spicier than I would have liked it to be. The waitress was good and my glass was constantly being filled. We just came from playing volleyball so I was drinking a lot of water. We walked away $30 lighter. Not a place we want to go every week, but every once in a while isn't out of the question. This place definitely made it to my list of worst restaurants to eat at. Their Yen Ta Fo Seafood Noodle soup was off-flavor & had a weird smell to it. The noodles were way too thick & wide, & they were stuck together. So it was just a big blob of rice block. This cause some stress on their limited parking lot so sometime you have to park off site or hang out waiting for someone to leave. Service isn't consistent, sometimes good and sometimes not. This time our server didn't come around much and drink orders sometimes were a 20 minute wait (we often thought she forgot to bring them!). The food is solidly good and consistently good! I've been a fan since this place first opened in 2007. The sushi is OK, but my fav dishes have always been the curry (green or pineapple) or pad thai. The prices for their lunch (11am-3pm) specials are amazing for the price considering you get a soup, salad, 2 piece of cali roll, spring roll, and entree. Their happy hour (3pm-7pm EVERY day of the week) is also good. $2 wells, $3 cosmos or long islands, among others. They have cheap rolls, $1 nigri, and a lot of hot tapas (I recommend the basil chicken wrap!) to choose from. I just wish they served brown rice :( Overall it's a good value for the money and in regards to some reviews stating they are culturally confused, get over it. Japanese menu items: rolls were on the cheaper side, in my opinion. Plano Roll was decent, again, nothing amazing. I definitely had my doubts about restaurants that are open until 3 AM but I could see the appeal of this place to nearby college students. And yes, at 10 PM (until later), it will be mostly full of students. For a late night munchies craving, this is your spot. For anything else, I'd pass. read more

You have to go during their happy hour (3-7 every day) cause they have a decent menu with unbeatable drink, appetizer, and sushi prices. Their drunken noodles are my favorite thing to order, I usually get a spicy level 4 and I love spicy food so this a good level.
