I requested white meat and when I picked it up after I paid 40 for 2 pho was when they decided to inform me they didn't have white meat. I've gave this place a second chance and regret my decision. Spent $40 for 2 ramen bowls. What a rip off. Added pork belly and didn't even cook correctly, pork belly had so much fat. Pork belly is suppose to be cooked for at 6-8 hours and this was disgusting. Egg wasn't sliced and you have to pay for everything extra. Go to Men koi ya Ramen In claremont......it's worth the trip. Very disappointed with "the first ramen shop in riverside". Tried it for the first time after trying Kaz and Saku and I am not impressed. Had the sober noodles and Tonkotsu noodles. Both tasted like pure seafood broth. Had a couple drinks and afterwards my breath still smells. Had to get home and immediately brush my teeth. Sober noodles were like 70% bean stalks. Noodles were thin and tasted almost like Cup Noodles. Bowl sizes were good, but what's the point if I couldn't finish it due to how I just couldn't enjoy it. Staff was friendly but kept messing up. Once I picked up my order as soon as it said, it was ready (I work next door) everything was cold. I ordered the soba noodle chicken and vegetables. As so cal natives, we've had some pretty wonderful ramen experiences. Zen Street was not one of them. It was sad. The whole experience left me feeling like I had sinned. We ordered the vegetable ramen, udon with shrimp, and a garlic with (white) rice something or other. And the mushrooms in the ramen were bitter. The type of bitter that makes you wonder what poisonous mushrooms taste like. We had to ask for chop sticks. Sigh. In terms of the ambiance, there was a ceiling tile missing with exposed piping above our heads. Every door and door handle looked like something from the worst of college dormitories. My review in one sentence: Pretty good food for a pretty good price. -- but to elaborate, if you're in the mood for ramen in Riverside and do not feel like driving out to LA, I would recommend this place. The broth here is much thinner than the classic Japanese-style ramen. In fact, it does not taste like the over-saturated, thickly, and deliciously fatty broth that you might find at Shinsengumi or Tsujita in Los Angeles at all. But, it is still good. Just ordered from there the tonkotsu ramen and very disappointed. The broth was too sweet for a tonkotsu and extremely salty. The hard boiled egg was not fully cooked in the middle meaning the egg white was raw.(the yolk is normally liquid but the egg white is not supposed to be.) the noodles were tuff and and the pork chachu was very tough as well. Tasted old and not cooked the tradition way. Overall just not good don't waste your money. I also spend 22$ on this mean lmao read more

I love ramen, but this place was a disappointment... I was excited to know that riverside had a ramen restaurant, but once I tried the ramen I was so sad.. It wasn't good. My boyfriend ordered the spicy miso ramen, and I ordered the drunken ramen. My ramen was definitely a lot more flavorful compared to the spicy miso. But the spice level for the drunken ramen was just too much! I couldn't handle the spice.. So I ended up no enjoying the dish all together. My boyfriend complained about the noodles being too soft, and the pork belly being fatty and too think and rubbery. I thought the pork belly looked gross.. I couldn't even eat it. I want to say I came on a bad day. So I might come back if I ever have a bad crave for ramen again.. Maybe. The restaurant itself is very clean, and the ambience is very nice and it is well decorated. Customer service was okay. I went at a slow hour and there was only one worker. So it was kind of slow, but he was polite and apologized for the wait. He was also good with the recommendations, although I didn't enjoy it as much as he praised it for. One star for clean atmosphere and good service. This place is super casual, get-up-and-pay-at-the-counter casual. One star because my husband really enjoyed their mini pork buns. Minus three stars for absolutely terrible ramen. It is not anywhere close to authentic ramen. The broth is so salty, I think this was an attempt to conceal the fact that the broth is not rich creamy tonkatsu broth. The noodles are either undercooked or poor quality--likely a combination of both factors. The pork slice was incredibly fatty, but not in a good way. The meaty part of the pork was tough. To top it off, the portion was way too small for the price they set. Granted there are times I'm so hungry that my eyes misjudge and are proven satisfyingly wrong by the end of the meal. However this time my eyes were disappointingly right. I have never felt so unsatisfied eating ramen at a restaurant. There are packaged ramen supremely better than this. There are much better ramen joints in riverside, so steer clear of this place. If you choose to try this place out, beware, the drunken ramen was torturing to eat. After 4-5 visits, something has slipped here. Portions are smaller, and the server disappeared completely on the last visit. My gal and I still felt hungry, whereas on previous visits we were comfortably full with an appetizer and two entrées. Falling water pork was barely detectable on the large plate that was mostly chopped cabbage and carrots. The turine of rice was noticeably smaller, and the spicy crispy basil chicken tasted like the meat was prebreaded and reheated. Sadly, the decline in product after the apparently discontinued happy hour and drop in service performance drops one star from my first review. Finally! A place for good ramen in the IE. I drove by this restaurant weeks ago and only remembered it tonight when I was wracking my brain trying to figure out where to go for dinner. It's across the street from the Riverside Plaza. The only bad thing about this is the parking is terrible here. Anyway, the restaurant is very clean and semi-trendy. I went here on a Saturday night and I was a bit sad to see there werre only 2 other tables occupied. I ordered the Drunken ramen. It had this really sweet, salty flavor as is typical on ramen broth. There was a hint of basil and spice which really rounded out the dish. The chasu pork was melt in your mouth delicious and I was glad to see they did the boiled egg correctly (the yolk semi cooked, but still soft). I am a ramen die-hard and seeing how close I live to this place I had to check it out. The first thing that hit me was the aesthetic - the Sun shown so beautifully through the plants around the restaurant and the color of each piece of decoration was perfect. We ordered on a tablet which was very convenient. I got the katsu ramen with veggie broth (yes they have that) and chicken karage. Both came out pretty quickly and they were FULL of flavor. I wish they had bigger sizes! The owner/chef is so nice as well, checking up on us every once in a while. Here's an idea, how about comparing two noodle soup restaurants across town? If a yelper compares Zen Street ramen to ramen they've had in New York City, is their brain wired good enough to be a part of Yelps elite? I don't think so! At Zen Street, the menu has a front side and a back side. Simple right! I had the Drunken Ramen. What a lovely new ramen spot! Erick, our server, was great! Very friendly and welcoming staff. He was attentive and patient while we fumbled around the menu. I ordered the tonkatsu ramen with a side of pork belly and my partner ordered the spicy miso ramen with a side of bamboo shoots; We picked the BBQ pork buns for our appetizer (I was ehh about those, probs won't order again). The ramen is as expected, tonkatsu soup was a touch salty BUT THAT'S JUST ME ahaha my sister would have loved the salty soup!-- saltiness aside, the tonkatsu soup base is still def better than our normal ramen spot, Ramen Okawari. We'll definitely be making the extra drive over to get our ramen fix nowwww. I do think they need to keep an eye out on their batch(es) of boiled eggs-- mine was sour! The BEST spot in riverside area hands down, a little hidden gem. From their service and hospitality to their menu. Zen has curated an amazing menu with a wide variety of delicious noodles, gyoza, rice bowls. Mao mao balls and Pork potstickers are delicious. Iced teas are refreshingly good. Ambiance is awesome, from the decor to the intimate seatings. Service is fast and attentive. We have been here for a few times and have tried many other ramen shops and hands down, our favorite ramen shop. read more

Zen Street's~ The flying ramen; chili, lime, eggs, tomatoes, scallions and chicken on skewer sticks. The broth was musty and the noodles resembled ones out of a packet. The quartered unripened tomatoes were also odd ball extras. This dish just didn't lift off for me, but to each is own. The Mao-Mao (Chicken dumplings) and Charsiu (Pork Buns) were ideal sized appetizers. Both presented well, but I preferred the taste of the dumplings over the pork buns. Overall experience was 2.5. Stopped going for a while because we found another place in Grand Terrace that is our new favorite here in the I.E. Just got a new job down the street and have been back a handful of times and you can really tell the flavors just aren't there. Broths lack depth of flavor and they try to make it up with superficial flavorings; Chili's, sauces, toppings. Noodles are average. Like someone else said, boba is on the hard side. Overall it is pretty average. Also, we only get 30 minutes for lunch so we've called in advance to have our food ready and every time we have to wait as if we were a walk-in.
