And, most importantly for us, we don't feel weighed down after eating here. I'm rating Peking Express a 4, but I really want to give it a 4.5. When you first walk in, it seems like a typical cafeteria style Chinese place like Panda Express. But then you realize there is no food sitting out on a hot table. They are cooking everything fresh to order. The lady working at the counter was all smiles and very sweet. I ordered the orange chicken with fried rice and a side of fried cream cheese wontons. The wontons were nice and crisp, but just basic - still tasty though. The orange chicken was nice big pieces with a tangy sauce; The fried rice was very good with a roasty umami flavor. It was a large portion of food for the money. The first was Ruby chicken which was tiny little bits over over cooked pieces of chicken skin and the second time I tried the Orange chicken and it was the same thing but a different flavor. Found out that our favorite Chinese food spot had a change of ownership so came over to check it out. The lady at the counter was very nice and gave all my kids some twist cookies. We ordered two 2 item plates. The first plate was orange chicken & sesame chicken with noodle. The meat was very very good - and the noodle were definitely decent. The other plate was black pepper chicken and jalapeño chicken with rice. Again - meat was on point and my husband said he could eat it all day every day -- the rice however was on the dry side and seemed to have been sitting out too long - borderline crunchy. We also ordered chicken egg rolls which were on point and cheese wantons....again I loved this place for their unique wontons which were so much better then other places but it looks like the original owners took the recipe with them because these were not what I was use to. I need to start by saying that this place legit makes food fresh to order! That is so rare for fast food places. The food: The beef with broccoli is the best I've had from a fast food takeout. The meat is so tender and the broccoli is fresh! The chow mein was just okay. There are wayyyy too many celery pieces in there which actually gives a taste of mint which has no business in chow mein. The noodles are NOT made fresh to order but I can tell that haven't sat out that long. The cream cheese wontons are NOT good. They taste like there is zero sugar in them so they are almost tart. They also do not have any green onion. The vegetable egg rolls are amazing! They too were not fresh but yet they were warm and still crispy! Since I have a mild obsession with wontons I likely won't be back but if that's not your thing, definitely worth a try! The man who helped me was super kind and the place is well kept. Upon entering, not much food left and they served it, was not tasty at all, about 5 min later, line forms, the only person in the place had to make fresh food. Was not impressed. Would I return?
