Nestled in a strip mall/shopping center is a  delightful Chinese restaurant with an extensive menu of tasty Chinese dishes and friendly, fast, and excellent service. I sought them out during my last visit to Pittsburgh for some takeout and I wasn't disappointed with the results.  Zen Choo's menu offers a diverse selection of dishes, some of the popular dishes include: 1) General Tso's Chicken: One of my favorites, their take has crispy, deep-fried chicken pieces coated in a tangy, sweet, and spicy sauce. 2) Kung Pao Shrimp: A fiery Sichuan-style dish that combines shrimp with peanuts, vegetables, and dried chili peppers in a savory sauce. 3) Vegetable Lo Mein: A flavorful vegetarian option consisting of stir-fried noodles, vegetables, and a rich sauce. They do cater to target dietary needs, as well, and offer an array of vegan and vegetarian options.   We had General Tso's Chicken, Spare Ribs, Fried Rice, Egg rolls and Hot & Sour soup. It was all quite good and I will try other dishes on my next visit when I need my Chinese fix :-) Bottom line: Zen Choo Chinese Restaurant offers a delightful fusion of flavors and serves it for and fresh. Sadly, this is obviously under new ownership, the once dirty grimy front of restaurant is all tidier and cleaned and the wonderful Asian women who waited on you at the counter is no more, and the food I just tried was just okay, the broccoli was not fresh and the sauce subpar or just okay, even the steamed rice was just okay, before it was not great Chinese American but it was good and hardly read more

A dirty little hole-in-the-wall storefront with truly unappetizing food. Everything -- everything I ordered tasted at least one day old. Not to even mention a surcharge for using a debit card. Never again. read more

We live in the area and have ordered from Zhen Choo for years. It is not our only Chinese restaurant so I can't say, we take out often. It can be a hit or miss at times, but have not been overly disappointed yet. It is definitely a local Chinese takeout spot, it is not a restaurant, very few tables and it's not a pleasure to eat there. I like the Chicken & Broccoli/ w Steamed Rice. The Pepper Steak is good as well. I don't care for the Egg Rolls. The Fried Rice is very good. It is a nice for take-out Chinese. The staff is very friendly, and food is prepared quickly and hot. I would recommend if your looking for a quick take-out. read more

I have lived in China and also have a little training in Cantonese cuisine, but despite having a Chinese university in town (CMU), I cannot find really good Chinese food. Zhen Choo doesn't pretend to deliver gourmet Chinese food, unlike some, but gives you a solid experience. The dishes all taste different - which is how it should be. No cards accepted. We've been coming here for about a year now and haven't been disappointed yet. It's a no-frills, local Chinese food takeout spot. You can eat in, too, but it's easier to pig out at home :) We have tried a few different things; pepper steak, beef and broccoli, chicken fried rice, dumplings, pork lo mein, and general tso's. 3.5 stars. Zhen Choo is a typical suburban shopping center Chinese restaurant. There's no real surprises here--you'll know exactly what you're going to get when you come in here. And I mean that in a very good way. Places like these serve good, solid Americanized Chinese food. Translation: what they do, they do well. I stopped in here recently after doing a home visit for work. Zhen Choo has the typical Monday-Friday lunch menu, with pretty much everything in the $5.00 per item range. We were looking for a go to Chinese Restaurant in the area and this is the one we decided on keeping. First off, the staff was very friendly and the food came quickly. We have been here multiple times and every time the food was good. It may not be the very best Chinese we've had, but it is consistently good. Hence, why we often return, stress on "often". I've tried three different meals from here in the past year. Although I can get past the fact that they do not accept credit/debit. I cannot get past how basic the food was and not really flavorful but more commercially produced.i was not pleased. Maybe I'll try it one more time on a different day but none of those situations should matter. Consistency is key. read more

I find myself missing the Kung Pao Chicken, Mu Shu Pork, Lo Mein, and friendly service that this place offers. After living in Southern California for many years,and travelling to Hunan Province, I have tasted some of the best. This place is consistently good,and inexpensive. Zhen Choo is simple but delicious. If you can, try them for lunch - they have $5 specials. No MSG, and fast, friendly service.

Tried this for the first time! We have been looking for a fast food Chinese place near our area for years, and excited to find one we like. The staff is extremely friendly. The food is decent and we haven't been disappointed. I am writing in response to the terrible food I had gotten from the restaurant. I ordered sweet & sour chicken,(I've ordered that dish many times) I have been a customer of theirs for over 10 years.. When I opened it up an started to eat it I found it to be nothing but lots of breading, I found very small piece of chicken in some with a huge amount of breading, Half of the dish had no chicken inside at all,but was just breading, I called there an talked to the owner,, she said maybe there's to much breading, an that was it,,or she would talk to the chef,,or that maybe next week it will be better, but never said anything about refunding or replacing it. She said bring it down, so I did, So I had to drive there an then she opened it and said to me "You ate all the chicken out of it",, (Im sure all I got to do in life is eat chicken out of a order an then go back an tell them it had no chicken in it) I told her its all breading with a very tiny piece of chicken an some had no chicken, look at it!!!she said i'll give u half price,,i said no,, so then she said i'll give u $8 an that's it,, when it cost $9..20,, She was absolutely rude an very nasty to me, even though I had been a customer for over 10 years. I would never ever do business with a person who is so terrible in ill-manner to customers, who have patronized her for such a long time, She knew it was heavily breaded all along but yet she didn't want to give up the almighty dollar,, Very ROTTEN AT HEART!!! though they are a strictly cash business i find that the food is always prepared correctly and delivered in a timely manner. the prices are fair for the most part i cannot complain about the prices. i do with they had a bigger variety in the menu but what they have they do extremely well. this is defiantly a good Americanized Chinese food restaurant. read more
