The venue was very clean and felt unique, we went downstairs near the bar and it was enough room and not too crowded. But the best thing was the service, the bartender took very good care of my family and I especially after tell him that I was allergic to shellfish, he gave me a special menu And told me everything that would be bad for me. Even though I went around 6:30 on a Friday, only about half the tables were occupied. Also, even though it was a Chinese restaurant, there wasn't a single Chinese customer. Since we were looking for a good dim sum restaurant in Pittsburgh, we ordered four dim sums: Ha gow (crystal shrimp), braised chicken feet, pork ribs with black beans, and Hong Kong-style curry fish balls. However, we were disappointed with all of them. The BBQ Trio rice plate was good, especially the roast duck. Since we want to go back and eat roast duck again, we also want to try some Cantonese dishes. read more

We opted to sit outside because the dining room was incredibly loud. Service was good, and our waitress was attentive, especially considering how busy they were. We ordered an appetizer special and a lobster noodle entrée to share between two people. Unfortunately, the food was probably the most disappointing part of the experience. Nothing was necessarily bad, but everything seemed to be lacking flavor. The ginger sauce on the entrée had actual chunks of ginger in it, but somehow didn't taste like the ginger had really infused into the sauce. It just felt flat. The lobster was fried in the shell, which made it difficult to share, and it was also overcooked. Our appetizer actually came out after the entrée and had a similar issue. The chili sauce was fine, but it didn't have much of the heat or depth of flavor we were expecting. Prices seemed pretty average for this type of restaurant in the area, and the service was certainly solid. My friend and I recently had dinner at the Parlor. I've been wanting to check this place out for years, so I was happy to finally make it! I made a reservation online, very easy. We were seated in an area near the bar and I LOVED the vibe. Dark moody lighting with neon signs. It felt both gritty and cozy at the same time. We started with some cocktails. I tried the Hot Crush which is a margarita with tequila, watermelon, lime, hibiscus, Serrano, and house spiced salt rim. It had some spicy but not overly spicy. I also ordered some crystal shrimp dumplings. I love how fresh they tasted and it was cool to know everything is made and folded by hand in house. For my entree, I ordered a special: Peking duck bao buns. It came with sliced duck, bao buns, cucumber salad, hoisin sauce and another sauce. Everything was delicious and our service was great. The parlor has a really nice vibe, moody lighting and a whole second floor underneath with more tables and bar area, service was also great, very attentive and nice! The drinks were a little underwhelming, the cocktails were okay, but the Chinese liquors were really nice to sip on while eating and had interesting flavors! The food was also quite solid- would recommend the Singapore style noodles which had good flavor and a fairly large portion size as well. Taro dumplings were also a standout, but everything else was fairly good. The Parlor is one of my favorite spots in Pittsburgh because it's reliably delicious, the vibe is upscale but still accessible, and the staff is just lovely! We had dinner here and decided to family style a bunch of different dishes which is always the right move! Everything we had was excellent. I think it's safe to say that The Parlor Dim Sum was my most anticipated spot on my 2025 must-try list. I made a reservation for a Saturday evening; my fiancé and I had a nice date night. When we arrived they told us that we only had the table for an hour and 15 min, which worried me a little, BUT the food came out really fast. Everything was amazing - from the food & drinks, to the service & ambiance. What we ordered: Drinks: Elixir of Life aka lychee martini (mine) & Butler Street Dynasty Highball (his) - both were refreshing and delicious! I love a lychee martini Dan Dan dumplings (that week's special) - absolutely incredible. Anything with chili oil has my heart. Cha Siu roasted pork bao - tender pork & fluffy bao = perfection Steak Ho Fun - my fiancé's dish, but of course I tried and we both loved! Wide noodles are my favorite. Pan fried crispy egg noodles w/ shrimp, scallop & squid - my dish! Honestly this dish takes patience. I wasn't sure how to eat it at first, but realized you have to slowly mix the noodles into the hot broth at the bottom and then they'll cook. The seafood was so fresh and the broth was lil spicy and it was just so yummy! They tell you this when you order, but the entrée portions are HUGE. I've been wanting to try this place every time I drive down butler street. I got takeout, but the ambiance of the restaurant was beautiful. It's very small and intimate. My favorite thing was the Lava bao. So silky like custard and umami. The chicken dumplings with the dim sum sauce were my favorite bite. I also really enjoyed the ginger scallion sauce. The Parlor continues to be one of my favorite spots in Pittsburgh for late night food. The $5 plates truly can't be beat. We took friends for their first time last night, and they are still talking about the food and drinks today. We were seated right away, and although our drinks took longer than usual to make, they were well worth the wait. The Uncle Roger is one of my favorites. We also tried the new Diagram cocktail on the bar menu, and it was phenomenal. Very fruit forward and sweet, but not over-the-top. Our friend also tried the whiskey espresso martini and enjoyed it. We ordered off the late night menu, and I believe we ordered one of everything except for the shrimp dumplings (even though they're great). As always, we left very full and very happy. The DJ who we've come to know and love was also there, doing house mixes of our favorite early 2000s songs. Paired with the low lighting and good cocktail menu, this would make for a great date spot or regular post-bar snack spot. The parlor is a great spot for authentically based Cantonese food featuring chef Roger Li's creative spin making it much more appealing to the American pallet(not as bland as traditional Cantonese). What Li accomplishes here is an incredibly difficult feat bringing an ancient and nuanced (and exceedingly complex) cuisine to Pittsburgh diners. This is a highly underrated restaurant because few appreciate the difficult to pull this off. The restaurants main dining room is a bit loud. I'd recommend their new outdoor patio or the back room that features a nice bar. The dishes are definitely to share, so order a lot! I've passed by this place so many times and it always looks busy, and I finally understand why it's so popular! To start, I had emailed to make a reservation since I had a party of 7, and they were very helpful in getting that reservation set up. I got the superior soy noodles and they weren't bad, but it could've used more flavor. I used some dim sum sauce to improve the flavor. This place is a lot bigger than it seems there's two big rooms inside and they have some outdoor seating as well. Our server was very attentive and helpful in making recommendations. We got the Ha Gow Shrimp dumplings, the chicken and shiitake dumplings, fried tofu, marinated cucumbers, Cha Siu roasted pork (came with rice and Chinese broccoli), and the house made ho fun noodles. This was more than enough food for two hungry people and we took most of the cha siu home with us. We paid an extra $3 for a gender horseradish sauce, dim sum sauce and crispy chili oil. Visiting Pittsburgh from NY and heard The Parlor was a solid spot and it did not disappoint. Fair warning, and maybe you know this if you are from the area, parking is not for the faint of heart. It took us like 10 minutes to find a spot 4 blocks away. The decor is super loungey and cute which was perfect for a date night actually. The menu was incredible and we had a hard time choosing so our server, Lucas, was instrumental in narrowing down our choices and we wound up with a selection of dim sum as well as duck fried rice, ho fun, and all three of the sauces. We loved everything but my favorite was the duck fried rice with some chili crisp mixed in. My husband loved the bao and the ginger scallion sauce. The only thing we were mildly disappointed in was the texture of the noodles in the ho fun (almost felt overdone and mushy) but the vegetables were perfect with a slight crunch to them and the steak was tender and flavorful. The dim sum cart service was different than I expected growing up near LA's Chinatown. Here, there was only one cart, and, at least during my dining experience, it was not moving around. It did make sense because the restaurant is small and intimate. The food we got was overall really good, and the ambience did reflect a more upscale dining experience. My main critique is that sauces were $1. Granted the sauces were good, but nothing can warrant having a bar cart service and not having soy sauce included in your meal/experience. We ordered har gow, 2 orders of cheung fun - one with Chinese broccoli and the other with shrimp, and "The Trio," a huge platter of three different kinds of barbecued meat (duck, chicken, and pork) that came with rice and vegetables. My favorite item was the cheung fun with Chinese broccoli. The rice crepes were perfectly soft and the bitterness of the broccoli worked perfectly with the sauce. This was an impromptu visit, but it did not disappoint and I would definitely recommend it to anyone else looking for dim sum in Pittsburgh! read more

Each of these were so delicious and we loved the dim sum sauce and chili oil as well. We enjoyed their happy hour cocktails Good Jujube and The Perfect Matcha. The Parlor is a cool spot and I'm glad we have a dim sum restaurant in Pittsburgh. However, they need some work on the experience of it all. I made a Friday night reservation just 1 day in advance and there were plenty of reservations still available. In that 1 day I was sent repeated notifications about their dining time limits (3-5 in 24 hours!). I received multiple text messages letting me know that there is a 75 minute limit for 2 diners. As soon as we checked in with the hostess she let us know the same. There was such a focus on the 75 minute time limit that everything was rushed and honestly it ruins the experience. The restaurant was not full and there were no people waiting at any point during our meal so this all seems unnecessary. They should either drop the time limit and let people enjoy their meals or switch to a counter-service/fast food model that focuses more on quantity than quality since that does seem to be the focus here. Also, they charge you more if you pay with a card. At this price point it is pretty unlikely that anyone would be carrying that amount coincidentally so plan accordingly for that too. read more

I can't believe it took me so long to try this spot, it caught my eye for years when I was driving through Bloomfield multiple times per week. The lo mai gai was out of my comfort zone but I loved the sausage and sticky rice combo! My least favorite was the pork riblets, there was barely anything on the already tiny, little bones. Felt like there wasn't much to those. I ordered the weekly special which was French onion soup dumplings and these were phenomenal. Would certainly come back here to try any soup dumplings they have. They have a wonderful bar in the back of the restaurant so I was able to walk in and sit right away! I'd like to preface with the fact that we haven't ever eaten Cantonese BBQ before, so I cannot attest to the authenticity of this restaurant or not. The concept of dim sum is fairly new to me, and I'm usually not super adventurous with food. The Parlor has something for everyone whether your palette is more adventurous or not. We had so much food, and our bill was under $100, which is unheard of in the fine dining world. All of the food came out quickly and well timed so we didn't feel rushed. So nice that dumplings are served 4 at a time instead of 3 as I've seen many places do. The authenticity/traditionality of the dishes is pretty legit from what I can tell. I've never visited Canton but I do cook a lot of foods inspired by the style. While the wine selection is limited, the cocktails are excellent, beyond what one would expect in such a busy restaurant. Even when they are busy, the layout and atmospheric architecture allows for conversation at a reasonable volume. The fact that this place is open 7 days a week is a significant bonus. Most restaurants in Pittsburgh will be closed between 1-4 nights per week. An extra bonus is that this is located within walking distance of the Row House cinema. Dinner and a classic movie?
