The girls are super nice but I was so hyped with the pics on their business that I came in with high expectations ...one of the girls said my design was too complicated so she would have to charge me more and I was fine with that but when she started the tattoo her hand was super shaky and it was like that the whole time...I'm so disappointed she also run out of ink so she had to grab another color so my tattoo looks even worst because of that. This location is beautiful. It's located in the mall, but sort of it's own little wing. I called in ahead of time to make an appointment and the girls were very accommodating about it. I still had about a 15 minute wait before I was seen. I was serviced by a lady named Alpa, who was very... Honest. Her first observation was my thin eyebrows. She told me that she would fix what's needed now, but not to touch them for two weeks and she will let them get fuller. I appreciate her effort, but I'm white. My eyebrows are thin. Her second suggestion was that I get my eyebrows TATTOOED. She used the tattoo on my shoulder as an example of the colour that my eyebrows should be tattooed - BLACK. I reminded her that my hair is WHITE and getting my eyebrows to be jet black probably isn't the most tasteful idea... Which brings us to her third personal view: "I don't like your hair. I don't like the white. It should be brown. I don't like it white, brown is much better." Instead of taking these opinions personally, I sort of laughed it off and humored the lady. It was funny, I have to admit. BUT WHAT WASN'T FUNNY was that she pinched my left inner eyebrow, leaving 4 blood blisters that have lasted a week already :( Shit happens so I'm letting it go and will give Alpa another shot. You'd never know they're here. Talk about bad real estate. Their store front is off the exterior of the mall opening up into the parking lot. They have a makeshift entrance through the side entrance of the interior of the mall, behind the jewelry store. It's like a wild goose chase trying to find this place, so I'll save you the trouble: Park on the Bloomingdale's side of the mall, ground level. The salon itself is no frills; nothing impressive. Just an open space with a few salon chairs and mirrors in front of them, and a small reception area, a boom box and burgundy walls. They tried to decorate it a bit but it feels more like someone's studio apartment than a salon. The vibe is very relaxed, too. There were two threaders on duty, one of which was stuffing her face with fro-yo before tending to her client who was gracious enough to wait. "Excuse my frozen yogurt breath." she said, while proceeding to thread her clients brows. The other threader, Anila, is the sister of Zia. She was working on this big macho dudes brows, and he was crying like a little bitch. "This hurts more than MMA fighting, why do you hate me so much?!" he says in his British accent. Puh-lease! You think threading is painful? Try waxing your nether regions, or giving birth! Not like I've got experience in that last one, but just sayin'. Men are such pussies. When she was all done with him, I was up next. It took under 10 minutes for her to balance out my brows, and she requested that I let them grow out for 3 weeks so we can define them further. Hmm..I'll try, but not sure if I can let it get unruly for that long. When I looked in the mirror, I had nicely shaped brows. Painless & quick. Nothing gets brows more precisely than threading. Even though it is a weird thing when you think about it - one end in the threaders mouth, with the other ends on your face. Probably horrific for people who aren't into people invading their personal space. She wiped the brow hairs away with a cotton ball moistened with rose water, and I was on my way. They take walk-ins & Visa/Mastercard - $8.99 + tip, and they give you a stamp card that gets you a 10th session for free. Although the place isn't so nice, the quality and value of the service will keep me coming back for more. read more

Even though I had completed all my holiday shopping well in advance I had the unfortunate reason to go to the mall the last Saturday before Christmas. Despite the lines and crowds I completed my mission quickly and was making a mad dash to the parking lot when I noticed a sign for Zia's Threading shop. It was a rather shlocky piece of paper tacked to a door that appeared to lead to nowhere. But I kept burrowing down that rabbit hole to a room that was nicely decorated and sparsely filled. Three women in line ahead of me to be exact. So I signed in, sat down and read donna l's Yelp review of this place on my iPhone while I waited. Come to find out that the shlocky sign was temporary: the shop is new and the business is barely a month old. It wasn't long before Heather, a smart young woman with pink highlights in her hair, called me over for a consultation. She looked deeply into my eyes for what seemed an eternity and asked me a lot of questions about what I was looking for in a treatment. She also chided me for doing my own tweezing and explained why my shaping technique was all wrong. But let me explain: she did it in a good way! By that I mean in a way in which I learned a lot and felt more at ease that an expert was taking over. About eight minutes later I looked into the mirror and was absolutely delighted with the results. My eyes were bright and lifted, my brows almost even and balanced. I say "almost even" because according to Heather that due to my poor tweezing skills we would have to wait for some over plucked areas to grow back. Heather worked a miracle despite what I gave her to work with. She is just awesome! She's quite simply a fantastic artisan with great technique. She's also amiable and chatty and loves to educate her customers. I can't wait to see what happens after a few weeks of growth. The price for this treatment is super awesomely affordable in these tough economic times where my beauty budget is severely cut now that I'm funemployed. Only $8.99 gets you to look like a million bucks! They also offer other threading services (cheeks, chin, upper lip, etc.) as well as mehndi designs (temporary henna tattoos) for hands and feet. She always gives off a bitchy vibe to me instead of welcoming me like other hostess do. She doesn't even say hi to me when I walk through the door! For $13 I got both my brows and upper lip threaded - what a deal! The threader did an overall good job - my brows have never looked better! BUT I do have to share a couple gripes. I don't know how it happened, but the threader nicked me in a couple places near my brow - slight bleeding ensued, but it wasn't anything severe, just a bit painful. She also had to put in her 2 cents about how I've done my brows - lady, just do your job and make'em pretty, which she did. It was a Friday night and the wait list was long and only 2 people were working in the entire salon. The 2nd person left eventually leaving 1 person to thread. Now I would guess that Fridays are pretty busy, since I'm sure other girls like myself have events during the weekend for which to get dolled up. But with just 1 person working my friend and I waited for about 45mins. I did try this place out because of all the great reviews, but I think once was enough. I used to love this place. Naheed (who no longer works here apparently) always did an amazing job. According to the girls who work at Zia, she had to leave because of a "vacation." Even though she wasn't there for a while I continued going and had Monica and Gigi do my brows. They did well but it wasn't the same. Later in the year, in the summer (2014) I called in to book an appointment with Naheed since the girls had told me she would come back, and I continued to look for Naheed. The girl on the phone told me that Naheed had to get surgery and wouldn't be back for a while. So I decided to go in and one of the girls removed the top part of my left eyebrow. I was pretty furious, but I dealt with it, having to grow out my brows for the next few months. After my experience I decided to look up Zia Threading Sherman Oaks, and thanks to a yelper I found out Naheed no longer works here. She's working somewhere else now. So, not only was I angry at them for ruining my eyebrows, but also because they lied. They could have just told me that she left for good. read more

Threading: You should probably tell them what you want before they begin. I am adventurous though, so I just let them do what they want. Depending on who is doing your eyebrows that day, the results can vary enormously. Most of the time they just remove random hairs and I leave looking pretty much the same as I did when I walked in, but cleaned up a bit. One time however, I left with teeny tiny eyebrows. I'm not sure if she messed up that time and had to even them out or what. I didn't mind though, I thought it looked fine. I have had more exciting eyebrow shapes after visiting other threading salons, but I always end up getting small red bumps on the threaded area afterwards. The little bumps is something I have never experienced after a Zia threading. Mehndi: Depending on who is doing your mehndi that day, results can vary enormously also. I have never had a mehndi experience here that I was super impressed with. In my opinion, none of them are really great at it. One of them REALLY sucks at it. I think it might have been her first time or something. If you want beautiful Mehndi, I would go to Rozina's Beauty Salon on Venice Blvd. read more

I have been to this place many times, sometimes it was good but sometimes really bad. They don't honor their word, The lady who's in charge told me that the wait will be 15 minutes but I was waiting there for one hour, really frustrating. Pam does a good job but the other ones do not. One of them gave me so many scars around my lip, eyes and chin area. And this is when I told her I have a very sensitive skin. They are really unprofessional. Their clothing doesn't look clean! The last time they charged me on my AMEX card and then charged me 50 cents for the transaction fee. After I asked why?! She said: We do not accept AMEX but as a favor to the customer we can accept it and charge the fee! WTF?! What Favore? She charged me and called it a favor! I paid for the favor! This place sucked! The lady who did my brows did a very bad job. The lines weren't clean. I had to go home and fix them and she cut my left lid. I told her how i wanted my brows to look and she couldn't really explain herself due to the fact that her English was very limited. I should've gone to the Brow Bar like my friend had originally suggested. NEVER AGAIN! That whole place was unprofessional, with the whole staff being loud about personal gossip. Best place to get your eyebrows threaded & so cheap. Been coming here for years & they always make my eyebrows look amazing. My to-go person is Mulan, she's superb on making your eyebrows look great. Definitely recommend Milan if you ever come here-call before coming so you know who's working. Everyone here is super nice & they all do a great job overall. They wanted me to pay full price for these mismatched eyebrows they gave me and then come back during whatever hours the owner would be there and talk to her about the horrible service I received. I think not. I offered to 50% of the full price since no one should have to pay for jacked up eyebrows and then come back on another day and talk to the store manager. I have been to at least 5 or 6 threading salons in Los Angeles and Orange County and this is the best one I have ever been to! They use high-quality, 100% cotton thread that doesn't hurt at all when being used. I have been to some places that use cheap thread, or thread made from other materials, and it can be very painful to get your eyebrows threaded. I came to Zia Threading to try it since I have not been satisfied at all the previous places I have been to and Brandy did a great job! I plan on bringing my daughter here to get threaded as well now that I have had a wonderful experience. i plan on going back again and again! Update on 1/18/11 - I went today to get my eyebrows threaded that the lady I had did them wrong so I am not happy. I know Brandy is good, so if you can, request her. Also, they changed the type of thread they use. It's no longer the high-quality kind, so that doesn't make me happy. read more

This place has gone downhill since I first started coming here. Despite being constantly busy, they're always understaffed so you have to wait forever. And during busy hours, why can't the host also be dedicated to cashing customers out? Also, one of their newer and younger girls isn't really as good. It seemed like she didn't know what she was doing because she threaded up so far into my hairlines! What the heck?! All I asked for was a cleanup and she couldn't even do that correctly. WOW what a great deal for some excellent service! I just got my eyebrows and upper lip threaded for $13 (It was $9 for the brows and $4 for the lip). I'm a long time waxer, and I might make a permanent move to threading. Brandy did a great job, and she communicated with me the entire time, listening to what I wanted. She did a really clean job. She was also friendly, and she shared some history about threading since I told her I was new to the whole process. I also bought a Mother's Day gift certificate that included a free upper lip threading with brows... so just $9! It's a simple salon with just three chairs, but the girls move efficiently. I'm really glad I didn't read these reviews or I would not have gone here. I wandered in here after a day of shopping because it was on the way back to the car (it faces the parking garage). It was empty because it was almost closing time on a Sunday. I was helped by Anila and I warned her that I was a big baby who hated having my eyebrows threaded. She was very gentle with me and it was the least painful threading I have ever had done. She explained that it's because they use a special thread that costs more but hurts less. I have thick eyebrows and I told her I wanted to keep them that way and just clean them up a little and she did exactly that and made them look beautiful. I will definitely be back here and I will definitely go with her again. And the frequent customer card they use to give you your 10th threading free is a nice little bonus. I don't understand why this place has such bad reviews. All the girls here are great and extremely nice!! I've been coming here for a little over 2 years now and I have to say I've not once had a bad experience w any of the girls here. The host Dairy is so sweet! she makes every visit pleasant and easy. She even recognizes my voice every time I call to make an appt. Also, Gigi is my go to girl. She has a very warm personality and I know I can trust her. I often dine at the center that Zia Threading is at, and I had always wanted to check it out. I needed to get my brows threaded and was pleasantly surprised after visiting Zia Threading! The decor feels authentic and they offer an array of services, even henna! There was only one woman in front of me and I wrote my name on a list. Just a couple of minutes after I was greeted by Milan. Milan was SO sweet and knew exactly what she was doing. My brows looked better than ever before! So I've been coming here the past 6 months and was really enjoying it. Let me say this, pay attention to who does your brows. I NEVER had a problem until the last time I went a few weeks ago. I didn't get her name unfortunately but the lady was threading soooo slowly that I could feel the hair being tugged at and it was SOOO painful. I am writing this to support the business. I think the owner (Anila) has done THE BEST THREADING work I've had, as a male patron. I always call in before I go, and I always look for her. I've heard great reviews about the others, but am the kind of person who prefers to stick with people I've worked with in the past. BTW, I've tried many other places, particularly, various Happy-Nail type places where they do nails, facials, massage, etc. There's definitely something to be said for a place that SPECIALIZES in threading. Let's jusy say that I've walked out of Happy Nails with chola-type eyebrows, and this way AFTER I insisted that they give me a natural brow. Anyway, I'm rambling. Came here for my first foray into threading. I don't have anything else to compare this to but I can certainly comment on the service. There was only one woman working here so the wait was a bit long but luckily there was a clothing store next door to pass some time. I told her this was my first time trying threading and she took the time to explain the process to me and do a test patch so I knew what to expect. She also took the time to discuss what i wanted and to make recommendations. The whole process was very fast, (7-10 minutes) and pretty much painless. I've never seen my brows look better. I'll definitely be coming back again. $9 for brows. Tip: it's on the outside of the mall near Bloomingdales between Nail Garden and Anat B. UPDATE: I went back and by chance got a different technician. I believe her name was Sulima (or something similar). She did a horrible job. I told her i like to have an arch and she did my brows pretty much straight across. She also left A LOT of hairs behind. I had to go home and clean it all up and get all the stray hairs. I still plan to go back because the other technician did a wonderful job, (Naheed), I will just make sure to avoid Sulima. read more

It's first come, first serve... but only if you're there when they call you, but not before someone whose called for an appointment and gone they've through the list calling everyone's cellphone. ...So, the moral here is: CALL AHEAD, MAKE A RANDOM APPOINTMENT, and SHOW UP 15MINS AFTER SAID APPT (you're sure to be next!). Otherwise, you could be here waiting for 30mins. As for the work, it's 50/50. I went once for an older lady and she did a really nice, clean job. I came here on Sunday (showed up at 540 - they close at 6). The 2 chicks there were NOT happy that we were coming in so late and almost turned us away. They actually locked the doors after us, and refused to let a customer in who knocked on the window 5 minutes after we got there. Sigh. The price is cheap - $9 for a brow thread. Pretty nice they offer underarms... The location is next to Bloomingdales (easy parking in the lot right in front) There are a few nicks near my brows. They "forgot" to thread the space between my brow and hairline. I've got weird fuzz on my brows and everything needs tidying. And when I pointed it out - the lady seemed irritated. Well I'm paying for a service right? I just felt like I was an annoyance to them and totally inconvenienced them. We were out the door by 6 so not sure why they were so angry. Overall - it's average for threading - I've had better. But the lack of customer service really annoyed me, and not sure I'd go back again.
