a blue windmill on a shelf
Jen E.

I had driven by this restaurant so many times throughout my years, but was never able to stop to try it. I really wanted to try it though. My friends and I were hiking the Holland Ravines and our parking spot was right near this restaurant, so I was pretty excited that we could stop after our hike for dinner. I love the outside, with its windmill. Walking in, there's a diner counter to your left, to your right is a wonderful display of ice cream, and a table with home-cooked fresh apple pies, etc. We were seated by a very nice waitress in a booth near a window. They did have some outdoor seating, but it was near the road and it was a chilly day. The menu is expansive and includes breakfast all day if that's your desire. They have a smoker in the front yard that they use on the weekends. We opted for that option. We ordered, and split, the barbecue chicken wrap and the pulled pork sandwich, one with chips and one with fries. We really enjoyed both. The chicken wrap was the perfect flavoring and I loved melty cheese inside. The pulled pork sandwich had plenty of meat and a perfectly toasted bun. Of course, I couldn't resist all the ice cream flavors or the apple pie that I watched being placed on the table from the oven! We split four different scoops of ice cream, all better than the last, and a slice of apple pie. The apple pie had a nice crumble on top, the apples were soft, which I prefer, and flavoring was perfect. The waitress didn't even have to warm it up because it was still warm from the oven. It reminded me of my Mom's Apple pie, so I bought a full pie to bring to my Dad for $17. I thought that was a fair price, considering the apple pie was very heavy by weight. My parents are enjoying the pie! I would definitely recommend that you stop here and check it out! So glad I finally got to! I'm not sure why their rating was so low.

Finally stopped into the Zider Zee after at least a ten year hiatus. This was one of my late Grandpa's favorite places and we spent many Sunday mornings here on the way out to our cabin in Arcade. I don't know why I haven't been back the past few years, but I'm glad I broke that trend today. The interior is nicely freshened up since the last time I was there. I had the chicken barbecue melt which was delicious. Piping hot and saucy. I couldn't resist getting one of their homemade desserts and ended up trying a coconut cream pie which was also very good. Their pie and dessert list, along with their ice cream in the summer is enough to get me to go back! Thanks for the nice lunch while in Holland today.

Geesh! As stated by another yelper. Service is slowwwww (I think I might of actually caught a cat nap, had a dream and woke up and I was still waiting) patience is a virtue right?!? The food was even longer to come out (I think I should've brought a paperback to read after my nap) wow! The food is good actually. The double Dutch dip was tasty and done perfect. Points for that. This place is small and can become packed and busy given the time of day so check the parking lot over before entering the premises. Ice cream is also available if your craving a desert. Also lots of homemade local pies from sweet creations in Holland NY. Ziders earned a star for food but service and delivery are brutal at best minus 2.

Open face meatloaf sandwich with mashed potatoes, so good!

I ended up in Holland on Sunday around lunch time and thanks to Zider Zee's being where I needed to be it was the perfect stop for both lunch and ice cream! This is a small town little diner type place filled with homestyle cooking, plenty of delicious looking specials, and it's own ice cream parlour right inside. The place itself is a good size with plenty of seats, very cozy, and filled with a friendly staff to go with it. The menu was pretty diverse offering tons of different breakfast and lunch options but after seeing they had an open face meatloaf sandwich with mashed potatoes, I knew I needed to try it. The food only took about 6-7 minutes to be served and boy was it good. The meatloaf was delicious and the mashed potatoes we're as good as mashed potatoes can be. Now I couldn't leave Zider Zee's without giving some of the ice cream a try so I decided to get a scoop of the mint chip and a scoop of the cookie dough and both get 2 big thumbs up from me. Overall, this place is an awesome little restaurant for a small town like Holland and offers both delicious food and delicious ice cream and I hope to come back some day!

Ok you need to stop in here and give them a try! I read the other reviews and was a little hesitant but I know the food is good so I stopped in for breakfast/lunch today. We were greeted by a happy smiling waitress so right away I was feeling better about coming in. My husband & I grabbed 2 spots at the counter. I ordered the Big Buck platter and was able to substitute the plain pancakes for their cinnamon pecan ones at no charge! It did take a little longer for the good but the place was packed so it's understandable. I watched the owner cook everything the entire time we were there so it's not like they were sitting around talking. Great food like theirs is worth the wait! Their prices are very reasonable too. My mouth was watering as soon as I saw her loading up my plate! Everything was delicious. .scrambled eggs, home fries, sourdough toast, sausage & pancakes! Those cinnamon pecan pancakes were some of the best I have ever had! All the waitresses were very friendly and thanked us multiple times for coming in. Everyone has rough days so go by my review and give them a chance. You will be happy you did!!

Really cute little spot for lunch! I ended up here on a Sunday. Their menu has so many things and they also had a list of specials. I went with a turkey sandwich from the specials list. The food was ready really quick and it was really good! We also couldn't say no to ice cream afterwards. I got strawberry patch ice cream and it was absolutely delicious.

We came out for a few errands today, and rewarded ourselves with a stop at Nellie's Restaurant…read more We were very warmly greeted by one of the servers and advised to sit anywhere we felt comfortable. The dining room was not overly full, about half the seating was taken. It has occurred to me that the meals I've enjoyed here are really a throwback to my formative years when food was handmade according to traditional recipes, full of fresh ingredients, and popular items from the 50s 60s and 70s. The menu is chock full of sandwich melts, hand-sliced roasted meats, full salad bar, thick slices of hearty bakery bread, a soup of the day, hearty omelettes, a large traditional breakfast menu. These are tried and true items to satisfy people who remember when good food was served up in diners all across America. You created a monster. We started off with beverages. Mine was an unsweetened iced tea with lemon and my husband had a decaf coffee. Then we placed our orders. My husband ordered one of his favorites, a Turkey Melt on thick slices of toasted sourdough. A generous portion of roasted turkey breast meat was stacked up along with provolone cheese and roasted green peppers, and crispy pickles as a garnish. He selected German potato salad for his side dish. Very delicious, and just too much to eat, so 1/2 of the sandwich came home with him. I ordered the Western outlet, complete with three eggs, a pile of delicious diced ham, green peppers and onions. Topped with delicious. melted cheddar cheese. My breakfast came with a platter full of hash browns and I selected sourdough toast to go with my breakfast. Some of the dinners come with salad bar, which was freshly filled with all kinds of lettuces, toppings and dressings. Nellie's also hand scoops hard ice cream cones and Sundaes. As always, we were extremely satisfied with our meals, and promised ourselves we would be back again in the future.

Their menu has what you'd expect from a classic diner, prices are cheap, and service is quick! We got the Country Style Eggs and Patty Melt. Both lacked basic seasonings like salt & pepper. If I was rating off the food alone, I'd give it a 3/5. The home fries in the Country Style Eggs could've been crispier and adding hot sauce definitely saved this a bit. The biscuit we got with it was homemade and so delicious. It was warm, buttery, and satisfying. The Patty Melt was a bit dry and desperately needed a sauce. I used ketchup and asked for pickles which helped. The rye bread was surprisingly not dry and grilled nicely with butter. It was definitely a heavy meal but we needed it after a long drive. It's not the kind of place where you'll have an amazing meal but it'll do the job at a super affordable price.

Coffee and water came quickly with a complimentary bread and muffin basket. I ordered a special style eggs benedict with a croissant and melted Swiss cheese under an herbal hollandaise sauce, (instead of an english muffin) and my husband ordered a wonderful homemade turkey barley soup and the hot turkey sandwich entree. The service is skilled and efficient, the people-watching unparalleled, and the portions are enormous for the listed price. Figure two meals for the listed price, and it seems a better deal!
