Jennifer was the most attentive waitress. Service was excellent. I had a Tunamelt on sour dough and I added tomato. It came with crinkle cut fries, and I had a Diet cola to drink. Don't you just love it when your food comes and it is exactly what you were hoping for? Tuna salad was fresh and delicious. Loved the crinkle cut fries, they really were perfect. I do also love that it was nice and quiet...music at the perfect level, still able to talk and hear. Portions seem quite large, I couldn't clean my plate...lol. I would come to this diner even if it weren't ridiculously convenient to my office. I just love the cozy vibe of this place. The food is typical of Greek diner food in Buffalo, gyro, souvlaki, spanakopita, pita. All items are good. I do particularly like the gyro. The COVID hours are reduced so they're opening a bit later than usual. On this visit the service was fine even though I suspect they might be suffering from the labor shortage - so tip your server well! I had breakfast. The waitress was too busy on phone while plates were left sitting to serve. There were only two customers,hence two plates. Finally she walked to the plates and than proceeded on phone for another few minutes. I thought she was waiting for toast. She wasn't. Food served warm/cold. This place is tucked away inside the Fernbach parking ramp just a few steps from Family Court. The service was great. It's a casual spot, conveniently located, serving up classic diner food. I was recently here for breakfast with a family member who was going through a crisis. I can't say enough about the friendliness and courtesy of the staff. Everything was clean, there was plenty of space between tables, and hand sanitizer was available at the door. Feeling like I'd need my strength that day, I ordered and devoured a bacon, eggs, home fries, and rye toast breakfast. Everything was perfect: the portions were generous, the bacon was crispy, the eggs neither underdone nor overdone, the potatoes neither too firm nor too soft. The waitress brought Frank's Red Hot to the table with the meal before I even asked, and the coffee - which I have supposedly quit drinking - was lovely. My family member was too stressed to eat much and the waitress asked sincerely after their wellbeing. She was unobtrusive but just very sweet in the interactions we had. I appreciate the delicious breakfast and the comfortable atmosphere that gave us the start we needed to get through a difficult day. Went to this little spot because a friend recommended it to me and it was a tiny bit busy, not too many people. I ordered home fries and pancakes which they unfortunately don't come with the option of adding anything. I got my food about 10 minutes later and WOW. The food was so bad. Literally no flavor whatsoever in the pancakes, home fries, and not even when I added the syrup to the pancakes. The pancakes tasted like the freezer kind you can just put in the microwave and the homefries weren't even home fries, they were very unseasoned fries. Not even any salt or pepper! My "home fries" got loaded with salt and pepper because it was so bland. I thought they would have some type of flavor but no. I didn't even want to eat the food it was so disgusting and tasteless. I took it anyways because I had to pay for it. The waitress never even came by our table to ask how was our food and if we needed anything. We finally got a check which took a while because we were literally sitting at the table not touching our food for about 15 minutes. We went to the cashier and oh my gosh it took forever JUST to cash out. I feel as honestly I could've just walked out and saved my own time. I would never recommend this place to anyone, avoid it!!!! I couldn't believe how slow this place was. I guess Buffalo's Courtyard Restaurant needs a fully functional courthouse to fill it (the old courthouse closed and moved across Niagara Square). I can't understand why that is. The food they cook up has my verdict -- Guilty! (of being delicious) -- and I can't figure why not a whole lot of others aren't there to agree with me. I had the chicken souvlaki omelet. I'll be honest with you when I say that I felt like it was tossing my money out of the window by ordering it; I have had so many good chicken souvlaki's in my day that I didn't think it was going to be good, but it was. The chicken pieces were really juicy and marinated nicely. The home fries were a different story: they tasted like they may have been deep fried and weren't seasoned properly. All in all, however, it was inexpensive and it lived up to my standards. Expect some really nice service here. That's what I found and I figure you will too. read more

I've only been here once. I've been saying I would try the fare here for two years, but in that whole time I've been to Courtyard now but once. And that'll be it. A block away exists a rival breakfast diner that I love, that does right everything this place does wrong. I'll be there instead. SERVICE: It all starts with the service. I walked into this surprisingly long establishment and took a seat at a booth near the end of the restaurant where I could get a clear view of the intersection of Niagara and Franklin. (More than nearly any other spot downtown, that spot enables me to envision a Buffalo more bustling than it is now.) The waitress arrives. I ask for corned beef hash. She takes my menu. She then yells at the top of her lungs across the whole of the restaurant, "HEY LOUIE. DO WE HAVE HASH?" "WHAT?!" "OH, OKAY." She picks the menu back up, walks back over, hands it back to me. "SORRY. WE'RE OUT." Questionable Content's Yelling Bird incarnate, this hollering persisted throughout my visit as she yelled from kitchen to customer, from counter to kitchen, from customer to kitchen, at the restaurant manager in general. Something like this doesn't even make Restaurant Service 101. It's before even that. Service this bad was so bad I've never before experienced the like. And the restaurant manager... was... there... the... whole... time...!!! So somehow this was all okay!? FOOD: I wound up ordering a country omelet. And y'know what? It was actually pretty good. The omelet was THICK, and lush, and buttery. The peppers inside it were undercooked and still too tough and cornery, and the whole thing lacked a bit in salt and wholly in black pepper. But... it was still pretty good. Three and a half, maybe four stars. I'd be content with an omelet like that in any other venue. But other issues, of course, manifested. The omelet appeared before me on a cold as the crypt plate, effecting weird temperature happenings across the bottom of the hot omelet that I didn't appreciate at all. My toast arrived unbuttered per my request but arrived cold, which I just can't understand or excuse for the life of me. I'm pretty sure that's a Restaurant Service 101 prereq, too. Ya don't serve cold toast. Period. ATMOSPHERE: I love the view that sitting in one of the wide booths at Courtyard permits. Sitting there with a book for a spell on a dark, stormy day sounds quite seductive to my sensibilities. But the rest of the restaurant desperately needs an update of one sort or another. Courtyard is marooned in the early 80's with chintzy carpet and an interior wall designed to look like the exterior wall of a cheap home (siding, fake windows, and all). Just removing all of the junk and painting the wall some shade of off-white would be a significant improvement. Oy. EN FIN: It's possible I just had the experience from hell. But the failures demonstrated during my visit are such fundamental failures that I can't justify spending more money to find that out. I was next for a table when I told the 1st waitress no so another one came over to ask me again to move to the counter where the only space was in a corner with half of the space taken by tbe guy already sitting. I eat here regularly because the food is very good, the wait staff is very friendly - Kim is my favorite - and if you tell them you're in a rush, they'll get you in and out as quickly as you need. I've had just about everything there is to have on the menu, and have no complaints. The coffee cup gets refilled frequently, all ingredients are fresh, and the portions are generous. They are only open for breakfast and lunch on weekdays. I wish they were open for dinner. I highly recommend the Courtyard. read more

One of the few places open downtown on a Saturday for breakfast....its like a little downtown resident's secret place. The kind of place you can go and they learn your name. Get the French toast. Mmmm. They are really nice people who run it and they also sell miscellaneous stuff (cards, scarves, etc) and give the money to the Ronald McDonald house.... Which is so awesome! read more

I went there for lunch. You seat yourself (no sign at the door). We sat down for maybe 5 minutes and finally the waitress came up to us and said be right with you. Lucky we took a menu with when we sat down because she finally came and took our order. When she did finally bring our food we didn't have any silverware so of course she finally brought it over. Didn't apologize for the wait. She wasn't very nice. Never said thank you or how was your lunch. I had the chicken souvlaki $8.99. They only gave you 4 pieces of chicken. I've been a regular at this restaurant, eating there 3 to 4 times a week. The workers all know me by my name. Today (9/2/14), I ordered the samething I always order. Grilled chicken and salad. Half way thru my lunch, I noticed a big dead fly in my salad. I was totally horrified. I showed the waitress and she brought it to the owners attention and was going to take it off my bill but the owner said, "no, that happens." The waitresses were very apologetic to me about my lunch and tried to persuade the owner not to charge me and even informed him I was a regular but he refused not to charge me. I'm happy with the small local dinner. A lot of local business and legal folks seem to be regulars, many are known by name to the staff. The food was very good, the room has a lived in feel, lots of love and use and the staff friendly, but hustling to keep up with the flow of the downtown folks at their pace. my girlfriend and i stopped in on a monday afternoon around 1:30pm the place was pretty much full only one empty table from what i could tell. we were seated very quickly and refreshments came immediately. loaded baked potato soup was excellent and my bbq chicken salad was huge. my girlfriend enjoyed her western sandwich. will be back if in the area, would recommend read more

I was pleasantly surprised at how reasonable the prices were here. The breakfasts were delicious as well. I had the Gyro Breakfast and I was pleased. The hasbrowns were crisp and well seasoned. The eggs were well what I expected for scrambled plain eggs, the Gyro meat was a pressed meat, but was what is expect for an inexpensive meal. The thing that made this a 5 star in my mind was how attentive the waitress was and how clean and nice looking the bathroom is. I even expected a diner style bad coffee but even it was pleasant. Food is quite good, have enjoyed some acceptable chicken souvlaki and a cheap $2,99 morning breakfast sandwich. My main complaint is the unacceptably surly waitress. She's there alone in the morning, she's there also at lunch time. She MUST be family, otherwise I don't know how she keeps her job. White female, late 30's, long curly dark brown hair. Never got her name because, of course, it's not like she smiles and introduces herself as your waitress. I don't think she even knows HOW to smile. That being said, we've been waited on by a different waitress at lunch, a white female in her 40's or 50's, and she was delightful, friendly, just wonderful. Such a major discrepency between the servers, it's amazing. That first waitress is so glum and moody and SO completely unwilling to add "friendly" into her serving attitude, it makes me not want to eat there because it's like I'm BOTHERING her just sitting at a table to dine. I went in for a quick breakfast before the bar exam. The hostess could tell why I was there, and took my order right away. I was in and out within 25 minutes. This place is basically my home away from home. I've eaten hundreds of lunches here. Everything is always the same: excellent. The burgers are great (the best is the mushroom and Swiss burger), the salads are huge (try mandarin chicken or black and blue ), the fries and sandwiches are perfect. I love coming in for a grilled Danish and some coffee in the morning. Everything is clean, the service is very fast, and there are free refills on coffee and soda. Free wifi. Waitresses are great. I've been going to Courtyard since it was in the old Lawley/Erlanger building and some of the same waitresses are still there. Prices are quite reasonable. read more
