I tried a grilled chicken bowl with rice, noodles, and veggies. I liked the chicken, rice, carrots, cucumbers, cabbage, zucchini, and broccoli. I did not like the red peppers and was indifferent on the chickpeas and mushrooms. The hibachi pineapple sauce was fine, pretty light in the taste. I got 1 ladle and that was fine for me. I really liked the cool noodles. The portion is good and the staff is friendly. I would stop in to try some other things. I tried something different on another visit. Pretty interesting concept, kind of like Subway or Chipotle but for Asian fusion food. We originally were going for Thai food today but the restaurant actually closes between 230-430pm, so we ended up here instead. They don't have any tables so be prepared to do takeout. Everything was very tasty. A bowl with chicken is $10.25 and with steak is 10.75, I believe. I had a chicken bowl with Brussels sprouts, onions, broccoli, Jasmine rice, ginger carrots, and onions. The carrots were probably my favorite of the veggies and apparently the veggies rotate - they told us to check their Facebook page for the latest menus. I love the concept and the food is delicious, but there are some things that really bother me. I often have a very restrictive diet and can't eat a lot of the things they offer. Generally just a little rice, chicken and one or two of the veggies. No sauce, no add ons, no toppings. So when I go in and get a bowl and tell them I only want a little rice, the chicken and maybe one or two of the veggies, no sauce and no toppings I'd expect to get more than a small scoop of chicken and 2-3 pieces of a veggie. I asked for a little more broccoli and they wanted to charge me. But I can get a scoop of everything else on the menu for free? As most of the other reviewers have stated there is a selection process you walk through to fill up your bowl. Think Chipotle, Qdoba, or Corelife but Asian Fusion. My bowl was filled (more like jammed to the top) with jasmine rice, chicken, broccoli, red peppers, garlic potatoes, and mushrooms, garlic sauce (2 scopes) and carrots (on the side). Amazing flavor!!! For a side I had a beef & cheese enchilada spring roll. They could make those bigger and sell them as a stand alone meal! Another Amazing flavor. The quality of this place has steadily declined as their prices have steadily increased! The overall cost is quite expensive for what it is, which is a tiny take out shop in a neighborhood strip mall. The food used to be pretty good (relative to most other food joints in the area) but the last few times have been disappointing. The meats have been tough & sometimes completely fatty and the flavor lacking. I got lunch for my son & myself and it was over $40! Then they expect you to leave a tip as well- lol. I've been so resistant to try Ziingos. Not for any particular reason, just resistant. When I finally went I was so happy. Happy because it was so good and because it was so quick. I have since returned a total of about 6 times over the following consecutive weeks. So why 4 stars and not 5? Because it's slowly becoming pretty inconsistent. Most of the employees are very helpful and lovely. The portions are usually adequate. (They've been getting progressively stingier with their cold noodles...which is just cruel, in my opinion) But it seems their doling-out portions are becoming smaller and smaller barely filling the almost $10 bowl to its minimum capacity. Yes I like my food and I like a healthy meal at a reasonable price. But the inconsistencies of the portions are becoming painfully apparent. Even my daughter, who almost never vocalizes her dismay, was very sad when we had to order an extra side of cold noodles because there was hardly enough in her bowl. (That will cost you almost another 5 bucks for a pint of noodles. Ugh...that's pretty sad. There's no way those noodles cost them more than a few dollars to make POUNDS of it!!!!) You select your grain (brown rice and Pad Thai noodles were the options on my recent visit), choose a protein, select any veggies you like, choose a sauce (green curry is fabulash!), And add any crunch (nuts, seeds, etc) and toppings (cilantro, green onion, etc.) after that. There's nowhere to set inside, so I wound up sitting outside of the neighboring Subway and having a little winter picnic on my recent visit. I wish they would add my favorite thing that Corelife does -- the option of having the staff stir everything together in a giant bowl so that all your bites are equally flavorful. Typically your first few bites don't have much sauce until you have more room in your bowl to stir everything together without having stuff fall out. Team VP stopped for an early lunch today at Ziingo. I was a little worried they would be busy because of the articles and reviews I've read, but we were the only customers there. The staff was not only plentiful, but they were eager to help us through their process of putting our lunches together. For the uninitiated, there is a large board when you walk in that announces the choices for the day. The employees stand behind a bar and ask which choices you want from each category on the board - starch, protein, vegetables sauce and toppings. There are also extras, so be prepared to decide if you want peanuts, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds or rice flakes. (The peanuts are surprisingly excellent!) Mr. MVP had the chicken with rice noodles, which he said was very good. He enjoyed the vegetables, which were broccoli and sweet peppers. The peppers were not over cooked, which can happen very easily. I had the jasmine rice with pork. I asked for broccoli and was given just two pieces. When I asked for more there was no hesitation, which was nice because I love my vegetables! I got my sauce on the side - Marsala - which was not spicy at all. It was perfect. The pork was lean and tender. The only negative was the drink selection. Besides water, there was a juice that was fake healthy and then awful sodas. My daughter Pad Thai noodles, beef, asparagus, Sun flower seeds, Kung Pao sauce. MY food was WAY OVERDRESSED, but my daughter's was not. Mine was almost like soup, and tasted OK. I tried my daughter's and it was WAY BETTER. We are outside which was pleasant on a table under the overhang. It was expensive however nearly $30 for the two of us. My husband and I stopped in today to try Ziingo for the first time. I have heard mixed reviews and was prepared to not like it. By now everybody probably knows about the chalk board with choices of protein, sauces that change and toppings of your choice. My husband and I each had the pad thai noodles with chicken, one with red curry sauce and one with green curry (for St. Patrick's day) and a mix of toppings. The food was very fresh, vegetables were still crunchy and both sauces were slightly spicy, just the correct amount. I thought the sauce ratio to the rest of the bowl was perfect. The noodles were perfectly cooked and we both thought a good serving size. It has a great presentation when placed in a real bowl. The black plastic bowl's don't do the food justice. My only complaint is the food was cold. The noodles more than the vegetables. We don't live that far away so it started out cool. I wish they could work on that. The temperature disturbed me at the beginning of the meal, but the food was so good, I didn't care any more. By the last bite I was already planning my next visit. The Chipotle concept truly works, choosing what you want. With hotter food I would give it 5 plus stars. read more

Not quite a good as their parent company (Chinn Chinn) in Mattawan; Ziingo is an attempt at fast food but fantastic quality and service. The smell of the food is amazing as you approach the door in the strip mall, but you can easily be fooled into walking into Subway next door...but not likely. The ingredients are top notch and the staff is typically friendly, unless they are really busy...then it's all business. The menu is pretty simple, pick a few items, a sauce, and voila, you have a nice meal to rave about. I've never had a bad dish, although some things you may find are not on your specific flavor pallet. I would recommend coming to Ziingo unless you have time to sit down and enjoy Chinn Chinn. read more

So I really like the concept and set up of this place. Meat and veggies are fresh and good. Staff is polite and attentive. My complaint is the food/sauce choices. I often stop in and of the 4 sauce options 3 are curry variations. I hate curry. I'm pretty open to any flavor except curry. I'm not too schooled in Asian spices but I didn't think curry was a traditional primary ingredient. I like pretty much anything else that's spicy. Meat choices are always the same and quality product. Veggies vary daily and those can be hit or miss depending on personal taste. Once you've chosen your rice, meat, veggies and sauce they have topping that range from kimchi to noodles to all kinds of stuff. These are usually pretty awesome. My wife and I were super stoked when this place finally opened. We have been die-hard Chinn Chinn fans over the last few years, but were really excited that they were opening a place in Portage. Now, first off this place is not Chinn Chinn. Once you get over that, you will love this place. This is Asian food in the essence of the way that Chipotle does Mexican food. It is a quick in and out and take it home. You come in, choose your rice/noodles, protein, vegetables, sauces, additional toppings (kimchi, sesame noodles, peanuts, etc), and you're done. The sauces are what brings back that Chinn Chinn feeling, along with the fact that they now sell the crunchies that you get in Mattawan. Every sauce I have had has been excellent. The portion size is fantastic for the price point. My wife and I can get dinner there for under $20. We have been frequent patrons since the day it opened and will continue to do so. read more

This place has been open less than a month, and I have been here 5 times already. The main thing to remember: This place is owned by the same people as Chinn Chinn. BUT: It is not the same as Chinn! Hence the different name... The food is great. The service is great. The first few times I came in I had lots of questions about the food, and they were all answered perfectly. I recommend trying the 4 sauces; the staff is more than happy to give you samples. Over the past month, I've watched them work the kinks out of the process in a very productive way. The sticky rice noodles that I read about in one of the 1 star reviews? It's been solved. The noodles have been perfect every time I've ordered them the last 3 times. Also, the refilling-tempo has been fixed. The first 2 times I had to wait a little bit for steak, but they have it down to a science now. I haven't noticed an issue with portion size of the vegetables, but maybe that's because I add all of them every time I'm there. If you only want broccoli and the serving size isn't enough, all you have to do is ask for more. My bowl of choice: -Rice noodles -Steak (I love the peppery taste, and it's always tender) -All vegetables available -Green curry (watch out: this one has a little kick to it) -Kimchi -Papaya slaw (if available) -Noodle salad (if available) -Soy Egg ("secret ingredient", if available) -Scallions -Side of the hot chili sauce For the price, the fresh, delicious Asian food can't be beaten. Their ingredients vary from week to week and they run out which is very inconvenient, but it's never bad regardless. It really is nothing like Chinn Chinn in terms of experience or food. The experience is sub-par even for the concept. The focus is on speeding people through the line rather than getting people good food. The food? Fine. Forgettable. Cooked and ready components works great for a burrito joint, but not for Asian rice and noodle bowls. It ends up being a lot more like Sbarro- than Chipotle-quality food.
