I found my engagement ring catching on my knit clothing and thought of the possible loss of my diamond if I did not get it repaired. I took it to Zimmer Bros. as it has a solid reputation and is locally owned. I didn't ask for an estimate - what was the point! It needed to be fixed! It took a week and I returned this morning to pick it up, credit card in hand. I wore a knit top to be able to check the repair was complete. No snags! I was so surprised when the smiling clerk said, "No charge!" I am here to let people know that Zimmer Bros. looks very expensive, but it is a fair business when dealing with the customer. with very helpful staff. Since that the cost of gold is very high right now, I took several pieces of fine jewelry to Zimmer Brothers to sell. All were solid gold, ranging from 9k to 14k, set with diamonds and pearls. I knew the value of my jewlelry going in, so I would have a ball park: before the cost of gold skyrocketed, the lot was appraised at around $600. I stood in the lobby while the "jeweler" looked at my jewelry. Then he had a woman walk over and tell me their offer. "75" she says "I'm sorry?" I replied. "For what?" "$75. For all of it." I was not raised to laugh in someone's face, so I refrained from doing so. However, I was floored by the audacity of this place. I could get more than that at a pawnshop on Main Street. I can only guess that because I'm under 30 they thought I was not aware of what I had, and they could scam some poor girl into selling several hundred dollars worth of jewelry to them for nothing. I told her to give me back my jewelry. As I turned to leave, she said the offer would be good for a day. And then I did laugh. As if I would ever darken the door of that place again. Because Zimmer Brothers is the only game in town they think they can get away with shenanigans like this. Shameful. read more

I went there after having purchased jewelry from them for over 30 years. Never again. I sold some estate jewelry and was given a $1400 credit. When i tried to use the credit on another piece of Jewelry that was on sale from $2000 minus 25% off ($1500). No. I was told that the store credit comes off before the sale markdown so instead of paying $100 I was told that the $2000 minus the $1400 was $600 and then 25% off of that was $150 so they wanted $350. They even had a sheet for them to follow this procedure. I later on went to Zales in the mall and spent $1100 on other jewelry. Never again. read more

Michael the alleged "fair" Zimmer decendant insulted us with an offer of $3,100. my husband said " so, when you sold us this $3,000 ring *(a anniversary band with 3/4 ctw diamonds) it dropped $2,300?" we were appalled. the Phantom Michael then offered $3,500. my husband bellowed " YOU ADMIT YOU SELL CRAP HERE RIGHT? we left very upset. Today we went to NYC diamond district, we were offered $9,650. Been there several times - sales people are helpful, even if it's just to change a watch battery or purchasing a piece of jewelry. They aren't pushy by any means and spend the appropriate amount of time with you. It is not a mall jewelry store or an online store, i don't go there looking for the best deal possible. I was cautious to bring my grandmothers brown diamonds ring for the repair in 1997. The ring was stamped with Russian 56 K/emperor profile /last century. When I received ring back the stamp was cut off. They explained that they could not fix it any other way.. No one ever contacted me prior to this and It was neglected my very personal concern about repair ...I am upset for many years and I will be upset for many more.... if I only new this could happened, I would not repair the ring.... for all of these years ...I saved my repair receipt ... with the repair cost that I forced to pay. read more
