Definitely a tourist spot but the food is decent for the amount and price. My group of four each had the three course tourist menu (choice of appetizer, entree, and the daily dessert) plus a glass of wine, which all came out to a total of €85. We think there might have been some preferential treatment to locals - we were clearly seated in a separate section with other tourists and the other tables across the room received complimentary pizza bread when we weren't offered any. We were also surprised when the waiter said there was a charge for balsamic vinegar! Every other restaurant we've been to in Italy provided this to us for free. Despite this, the food still tasted pretty good, but there are better restaurants in the area. read more

Wonderful service and solid food. We got the seafood appetizer which was very delicious (my mom loved the octopus) and the homemade pasta with clam and pesto sauce was also on point. The grilled lamb chops with grilled vegetables and rosemary potatoes were tasty--the lamb was a bit gamey for my taste. The location was very well decorated and the service was impeccable. This was the only location in Italy I've been to where they ask for gratuity but at least it is well deserved. For those 3 dishes plus a cappuccino and two types of bread was 65 euros so all in all not bad! Stopped in to grab some food after we did a shopping trip in town. The pasta was really good - home made and the pizzas were a hit for the kids. We arrived about 5 minutes before they officially opened and was welcomed in to have a seat and just hang and peruse the menu until they opened up. This place was simply amazing!!! I can't say enough of how good the food and the atmosphere was!! The restaurant decoration is very authentic Italian. The bottom floor of the restaurant is pretty amazing with stone walls and wine bottles everywhere. The staff was very accommodating making last minute reservation for almost 20 people. The food choices were plenty and the house wine was amazing. There is no need to order expensive bottles honestly. However if you are for a wine treat the staff would offer pretty good wine choices. DON'T FALL FOR THIS TOURIST TRAP - we came here as our tour guide suggested we eat here after our tour of Pompeii and sorrento. The thing that REALLY pissed me off was their "pane e coperto" (bread and table fee - which was 2 Euros per person at the table) which is Illegal if you don't disclose this on your menu or verbally. (Yeah I googled this after our waiter brought our check to us). Meanwhile as we were ruminating over this mysterious fee, the waiter incessantly asked us how much we would want to pay for gratuity. Now..I'm not a European traveling noob so I was absolutely shocked by his persistent urge to pay a gratuity as I have never been asked to pay this in any European establishment I have visited. EVER. I put my hand up and said hold up, you can't expect us to pay you gratuity when you deceived us and didn't disclose the pane e coperto fee right? And the waiter huffed something italian under his breath and walked away. - he knew he did wrong! Foodwise, everything was just Okay. The seafood pasta was a little bit more al dente that I would have liked it (wish they wrote that on the menu instead of saying it would be a fettuccine pasta, making it seem like it will be soft). The sorrento pizza with buffalo cheese was pretty good - a classic Napoli pizza with the thick crust (not really my cup of tea though since I really enjoyed the thinner crust pizza that you can find in Rome more). We also ordered the sorrento gnocchi which is actually called potato dumplings on their menu - this was probably the best thing We had here - it was soft, full of flavor, kind of looked like it was doused in buffalo sauce due to the vibrant orange and red color but tasted more like cheesy potatoes, and lastly, the grilled calamari was nothing to write home about - was a bit rubbery, over-charred, and very very difficult to cut with a knife (probably because it was over cooked and overboiled). Overall, the food seemed to taste like it was rushed and at times either undercooked (pasta) or over cooked (calamari). Service was a disaster - as mentioned above from the exorbitant and undisclosed bread and table fee and the overall attitude of the waiter who made it seem like we were stupid tourists the whole time. Never were asked how we were doing or if we needed anything during the meal. Table space was so freaking small - we had to stack plates on top of each other or transfer some dishes onto another main course because there was no way to fit everything on the table - on top of that, our table was so wobbly that I thought that something would topple over in a second. My two cents - There are much better restaurants in Sorrento and wish I did a little bit more research before listening to our tour guide. As we only had one meal in sorrento, was such a dissapointment to eat here due to the mediocre service and very MEH food. read more

We had an amazing experience. We were able To get seated without a reservation. Upon leaving at 9 pm there were dozens of people waiting outside. The pizza was superb! The dorada fish was ezquisite. Great food but very cold service! The first time we visited here we had Spaghetti Carbonara and homemade pasta with pesto and clams. The Carbonara was bomb and the clams were heaven! The person sitting at the table next to me ordered exactly the same dish though and had nearly double as much clams as I did. Why?! I had a sweet Italian wine as well which was delicious. The service though was not good at all. I don't know if it was because they were very busy or because we were two Asian tourist and they thought that we wouldn't return anyway, but they weren't nice to us as they were with other customers! I wanted to know the name of the wine I had cause it was really good. He told me the name really quick which I couldn't understand properly. And before I could ask him again he disappeared. And when we asked for the bill he just threw it on our table saying that it didn't included service charge and ran off again. The second time we came here (because my mum loved the Carbonara) they came with a plate of bread the waitress put it on our table said literally just "Bread" and went off again. Service was both time we came here very unfriendly. Deducting 2 Stars as the cold service dragged down my experience here a lot. Really not sure how this place averages a 3. This is a 5 all the way. Best food we had in Sorrento and best staff that were extremely attentive as they just were stocked with waiters. Our hotel receptionist at Palazzo Marziale recommended immediately as he said locals and tourists both eat there. We ordered the special risotto (seafood) as recommended. It was amazing. Our second time dining at this charming Italian restaurant on the narrow street of Villa Luigi de Maio in Sorrento. Last year we dined in the cellar, which was an awesome experience; brick lined walls with lots of arches and a very cozy atmosphere. Today we dined upstairs and was seated at a table next to the arch window facing Villa Luigi de Maio. The wait staff is extremely attentive and we struck up interesting conversation regarding my request for "fette di limone" for my "still water". For those that do not understand Italian or know about Sorrento, well let's put it this way - Sorrento must have put lemons on the map in ancient times because nowhere else int he world can you find this abundantly large citrus fruit! After traveling from Milano to Brussels and to Naples aboard Brussels Airlines (yep, that was the round about way of getting to Napoli, but I need to rack up those miles for next year's vacation extravaganza (location yet to be determined). Let me tell you know the food we have had here is to die for. Really you say, well I say yes. They cook with the freshest ingredients and yes you can certainly taste the difference; hands down! I had the pasta Sicilian style with mozzarella and eggplant and Ron enjoyed the tagatelle bolognese (see pictures). Ron ordered the green salad and I ordered the bruschetta appetizer for two. Definitely not the place to go when in Sorrento. Don't go here. Go some place else (like Donna Sofia). First, the food is good but not great. For the price you pay you can do much better. Second, the service is sub par. I could not believe that when I went to pay for our meal the waiter asked me how much I wanted to leave for a tip. In Italy, the standard is to not leave an incremental tip as it's built into the cost of the meal. In fact, some places reflect it as a separate line item. When I told him that I wanted to pay the amount reflected on the receipt, he asked again. Needless to say, I didn't leave an extra tip. Food was okay, except for not having much in every dish like other restaurants(no matter fancy or not) we ate during the past 2 weeks in Italy, but the service was just so-so. One waiter was not that skilled and patient for explaining the Italian menu for foreigners. And they didn't care to change the plates until we finished 3 dishes for a while.... Actually we didn't care that much about services, but when we ask for check, a waiter said we have to pay for their service. They didn't tell us before and the menu is all Italian! We asked how much, he answered that others pay 10 percent. I had to pay, but at the moment, I got furious and sick. Seriously, SERVICE? You are the worst waiters I have ever met in Italy!!! And seems like they have the particular menu for TOURISTS, according to other viewers. This kind of behaviors was super disgusting and cheap. It ruined our great impression for Surrento here. The waiter was super friendly and funny, and he gave us limoncello and meloncello(?) at the end. They have nice live music that brought you back to the 60s. The tiramisu was the only downside of it. We ate at Zi'Ntonio on our first night in Sorrento and had a lovely experience. We sat on the underground floor, which looked like a cute cellar and were attended by a team of wait staff that were very good. We were traveling with our 9 month old and they brought one high chair before deciding she might be more comfortable in another so brought a different style that allowed her younger self to sit more securely. After hearing that no restaurants in Italy had high chairs, we were pleasantly surprised by how accommodating and proactive we were (we would have been fine with the other chair b/c honestly our 9 month old is sort of in between) but they really went out of their way for us. The service was great and after a standard cold cuts appetizer, I got the seafood risotto and my husband got the spaghetti with olives and capers b/c it looked to be a local speciality. He wavered a lot because he really wanted the carbonara but loved his pasta and had no regrets. My risotto was very good but some of the shellfish on top could have been a tad better (tasted a little fishier than I'd expect at a restaurant on the coast and more grit than I'd like). The risotto was very much al dente, ALMOST undercooked but right on the cusp. Great portions and overall a great meal but not quite 5 stars in terms of food (my risotto was more like 3-star). As for service, honestly I'm surprised by the other reviewers, of all the great service we got in Italy, this place was one of the best. Not only were they so accommodating of our tiny human, they even offered to wash her silicone placemat/plate after we were done and it came back steaming hot! Overall, probably one of the more touristy places we went to in our week in Italy but we had a lovely time and would certainly recommend to others to check out as well. read more

The Parmesan cheese, , which is often a disappointment at most restaurants, was the best quality. So far very good... I know it's easy to fall in love over a bottle of wine. Fortunately, tonight in Sorrento, it was with the pork chop, cooked perfect in a bed of olive oil! If you come to Sorrento, come to Zintonio's with an appetite. Went back a second night and tried the veal scallopini. Really good in a light sauce nice, tasted delicious! This place is batting hundred percent. Fantastic pasta, cheeses, bread and wine. The angel hair with zucchini, shrimp and saffron was amazing. Live music (light Jazz saxophone) adds to the ambiance which is classy and clean. Ate here after a boat trip from Capri and were pleasantly surprised. Nice location in-between the two main squares of Sorrento. Homemade beers were an awesome perk. 22 of us dined here a few weeks ago and had a great night, the head waiter serving our table was getting a little stressed out but the rest of team were super friendly and did a great job. The food was excellent but we didn't order from the fixed 3 course menu and so maybe that was the difference from the poor experiences that others have mentioned, no one even mentioned a tip or gratuity when we got the checks either. No no and NO!! Our waiter was extremely rude and unwelcoming. We ordered in Italian and our waiter was quick to correct our pronunciation. So much for having fun practicing our Italian in Italy. In all the other restaurants we have been to, our waiters have loved our try at Italian. Pizza was bland and undercooked in the middle and over-cooked on the crust. The only highlight of our visit was the Christmas lights (visiting in December). It was decorated beautifully... But hard to enjoy the atmosphere with such bad food and awfully rude waiter. This was the first restaurant we tried upon arriving to Sorrento. This restaurant set the bar high for authentic Italian food for our stay in Sorrento. The special seafood risotto was so delish with shrimp, mussels, clams, lobster, lagostino, sitting on a creamy bed of risotto. Portion was enough for 2. The family friendly atmosphere greeted us with live music and the owners. Service was friendly, professional, and courteous. We loved it so much that we tried it again for their pizzas.
