I recently started using Zips for laundry in mid-July 2021. On a couple occasions I brought in some basic things for dry cleaning, as well. Everything seemed fine. In early August I had two items for repair and dry cleaning along with one designer blouse just for dry cleaning. Three items in total. Although reluctant, I also left my favorite designer blouse to be dry cleaned because I was going on a trip and wanted to bring this blouse with me. When I returned a couple days later I was told only one repair was ready along with my laundry. I was asked to return after 6:00pm for the other repair and dry cleaning item. Unfortunately, I couldn't make it back in time and I had to wait until I returned from my trip. Yesterday, August 19th, I dropped off my laundry for cleaning and asked to pick up by two items that were left from the previous two weeks. Only one item was returned. When I inquired about my designer blouse I was told they didn't have it. What?! I was horrified. I explained that I was told to return to pick it up with my repair back in early August. I did not have the claim check because the attendant took it when I picked up my other things and did not give it back to me. This was a huge mistake and I should have insisted it be returned until all my items were picked up. I spoke with the manager and she claims that the cameras do not show me dropping off this special blouse. I do not believe this as I am 100% sure I dropped it off because I was concerned about having it in time for my trip. The manager, Karen Diaz said she would go back and review all the film but was "too busy" to get to it. I asked if any dry cleaning was sent out and perhaps didn't return. She explained that all dry cleaning happened on site. I went home and found a photo and receipt of the blouse to make it easier for them to locate this blouse. Knowing it was dropped off and not sent out, I am hopeful it will be found. VERY concerned that this was the only item missing. BEWARE. read more

Ughhh why can't Zips fold sweaters? Is it that hard? All my sweaters have bumps on the shoulder that look ridiculous. This is the only cleaners I know that do this. I even picked it up the same day hoping if they didn't fold them (as usual), the shoulders would be ok just hanging a few hours. Nope. The sweaters felt damp when I got them--a sure way to get bumps if not folded. Also, any clothes I have of value, this place has managed to screw up. I have bleach stains on my dress shirts. My trenchcoat is warped at the bottom. The list goes on. Zips is cheap--but you get what you pay for. I'll have to find another place. read more

I love this ZIPS they always satisfy my dry cleaning services. I come here on a consistent basis to get my clothes cleaned. I love the convenience of getting in by 9 and having it out by 5 that day. Even if you do miss the deadline, you won't have to wait long as your clothing is typically dry cleaned the next day by 5 pm. The only reason I gave this establishment four stars is because I took a skirt here for alterations in which she was suppose to just hem the dress. However, she basically butchered my maxi dress to a knee length skirt. I was so devastated as I had to order a new one for a event I was attending in a week because the issue couldn't be resolved because of the fabric that she had thrown away. read more

I dropped $100 blouse off at this cleaners in February 2020. The cleaners ruined my blouse during the cleaning process. I was told initially that the store manager would be giving me a call within the coming weeks. I never received this call. I followed up and was advised to coming into the store to see the garment and bring the receipt. When I went to the cleaners the manager placed full responsibility on me for not telling the cashier how to clean my blouse. (The costumer needs to teach the store how to clean a garment? That is news to me!). The store manager then advised that the owner would pay me $90 but I would have to leave the blouse with them. I said no. I found this extremely odd. So they only credited me $25 to be used towards other garments I'd bring in. In July 2020 I went back to the same store to use the credit in my account. I SPECIFICALLY looked at every single label in every single garment on how to clean every piece. Specific instructions were given to the female employee who assisted me. To my surprise I received a call the next day saying that one of my dresses had been stained during the process. A brand new dress, that cost me $60. Guess what happened when I went to pick up the garments? The same store manager, Derrick, blamed me once AGAIN for not telling his employees which cleaning process they should use. When I said I had told them how to clean the dresses he said he couldn't confirm my statement. This time he didn't even offer a store credit. He simply refunded my $1.40 and did absolutely nothing about it. This business is a joke. There is no respect for costumers or the garments that one brings here. If anything happens to your garments while they are under the store responsibility, do not expect any apology, or help, or payment. Manager always blames the costumer, makes up policies that are nowhere to be found in their website and the costumer is left with financial loss. After being a loyal customer for approximately 4 years I am truly disappointed. Not coming back here ever again. read more

I had two consecutive bad experiences here: first, I came on a Saturday, waited in line for 15min, to then be told they didn't take card for less than $10 (my stuff was $9.50). They refused to charge my card for $10 instead. Ok, so far not their fault, I didn't know the policy but it was very frustrating nonetheless. Had to go back home and come back another day. Come another day, I cashed a $20 from the ATM knowing my stuff was $9.50. I give the guy the $20, he walks over to a different cashier (I assume he didn't have change), came back w a $10 and some change, gives me the change and holds on to the $10. I am thinking WTF?!?! The guys disappears in the back, I can see he's just sitting down by the steps, I am there waiting for my change and receipt for 5 min. Then, he comes back and he gives me the receipt and argues that I gave him a $10 bill. He goes back-and-forth then he says I'm going to call the manager and I said OK. I received an email for a new Wash and fold service!l at zips and thought to be supportive. The process is a disgrace and not coordinated property. Management nor employees knew what the process was. Provide accurate information before taking peoples money and clothing. The cheap price isn't worth the risk of putting items in their care. I took a couple of items there -- probably 10-12 pieces in total -- over a couple of orders. They lost one shirt and damaged a jacket. I also received several robo-calls that my items had been waiting to be picked up for months and would soon be donated (they had been there about 10 days). These things undoubtedly happen from time to time, but the most outrageous part is how they responded to problems. Nonchalance would have been an improvement. The desk staff laughed at the issues i raised and said that the damage to the jacket had probably been there when i brought it in. Hard to see how that was likely since it was a tear in the fabric of the jacket of about 3 inches. If that was the condition, they should have refused to take it. When i spoke to the manager, he didn't bother to defend his staff, but he also suggested he had no responsibility for any types of mishaps that occurred to me and that these things were part of his normal business. I will take him at his word and simply choose a more reliable cleaner. Won't be hard to find one that won't laugh in your face if there is a problem. Update: they also won't stop calling me about an overdue item to be picked up. I've called the store and visited trying to pick it up -- I was told on the phone that someone saw the item and put their hands on it. Today when I arrived in the store I was told there was no item. I go to Zips because it's cheap. I've never been super impressed but I usually don't need anything special. The few times I've tried them for stain removal, they've failed, so I've ended up just taking the item to American Valet in Tenleytown, where I've always had great results. But American Valet is not for poors like me, so I just take basic stuff to Zips -- button downs, sweaters, pants, dresses, every day clothes -- and only my nice nice jawns or tough jobs to Tenleytown. Zips irons my button downs so I don't have to, freshens my sundresses, gets all the mites out of my thrift store finds. GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME. Never mind that they probably ruined a brand new pair of pants when they creased them over the seam, but I figured that was on me because 1) the pants are awful polyester and 2) they're machine washable and that's what I get for being lazy. Never mind they've put creases in knit LEGGINGS. Lesson learned. Only take dry clean only slacks to the dry cleaners. And remember: THEY CAN'T HANDLE CREASES. Fine. I continued taking my stuff here and entrusted them with a pair of slacks two days ago and they came back fine and lightly creased. Perhaps the offending creaser-on-duty has been reassigned? WORKS FOR ME. Well, not so fast. Yesterday I dropped off two pairs of slacks, which don't have any creases, and whuddyaknow they came back creased. I could live with the creases if they were sharp. But they aren't. I've got two and three creases in some spots, and who wants that? Who's trying to be out here in the work world with three creases in their slacks? Huh, Zips? And why would you go to the trouble of creasing pants that don't have any creases?! ANSWER ME! I could take these pants back to them and have them waste their time and mine like they're going to fix this (which I've done in the past). But I know I'm going to be disappointed when they re-present these creases to me, so I'll just be looking for somewhere else to take my clothes. Hopefully I'll find somewhere with a better parking lot. 2 stars for the price. read more

Oh, Zips. I was willing to forgive so much: the fact that you don't accept credit cards and that you have the world's worst parking lot, your unfriendly staff, and the way you manage to shrink just about everything I own. Hey, it's insanely cheap, and at these prices, I can't complain about the long wait to drop off my clothes, the rude folks behind the counter, or the fact that my favorite sweater has become a tube top. But, the other day I dropped off a pile of clothes and two table "runners" - i.e. thin strips of cloth that cover a table. These are about the size of a woman's scarf, and made of cotton. The woman behind the desk accepted all of my stuff, and two days later, I went to pick up my clothes. When I got home, I realized the runners were missing. I called the store immediately and the man who answered- kind as he was- said "we don't accept table cloths." And I said "well, you did, because I don't have mine anymore." We went back and forth on the phone, and he ultimately told me he'd "review the videotape" (which made it sound like he was a football referee...). He called back and said that I had indeed dropped off two runners (obviously), and that he had found them. Zips, he told me, doesn't "accept" table runners, and I should come back for them. And I did. And here's my reaction: - What a waste of time. Why did the woman at the counter "accept" my table runners if Zips doesn't accept them? - Why don't they accept them? (Mind you, each of these pieces is the same size and material as, say, a scarf). - Why didn't the runners get packed with the rest of my clothes thus saving me an additional trip to Zips. Or why didn't the person who gave me all my clean clothes say "hey, you dropped off two other things we couldn't clean." All of this to say, I was long willing to forgive Zips its general silliness, but this was too much. I should say, as an aside, that the day I dropped off my clothes, the two people ahead of me on line were picking up garments that Zips had lost (and then found). Not good, people. read more

THEY RUINED MY DRESS!!! and in a way that dry cleaners shouldn't.... I put on a dress today that I got dry cleaned a few weeks ago. A nice pretty cap-sleeved dress I've owned since high school. I put it on today and notice the sleeves are different, something is wrong, one is different from the other. My left sleeve is no longer a cap sleeve. It has the shape of a t-shirt. Well, they broke the elastic in one of my sleeves. How does that even happen when dry cleaning?!? Not happy. I'm well aware that the money I saved in dry cleaning by going here allows me to buy a new dress, but I really can't when I pulled this dress out my closet and intended on wearing it out the door. When bringing my clothes to Zips, I knew there was a chance I would need to re-sew a button on to my dress shirt upon return, but this is beyond a missing button, this is actual damage to my dress. THIS PLACE SUCKS. I was lured in by the low, low prices, but it ultimately bit me in the arse. I brought home several items with me one day, only to realize that a dress of mine had been ruined. I went back to show the owner the results of their having having "dry cleaned" my dress - I cannot even begin to explain how they mutilated it. The owner of the place is a total butthole. He denied that they had burnt parts of the dress and that they had tried to sew the straps back on when they weren't even sewn in the first place?! He put his own employees on the spot in front of me, asking if they were responsible for handling my dress (and honestly, who would admit to that in front of their own boss and customer?). He argued that since I had already left the store, he couldn't claim responsibility for the damage. Suffice to say, I was FURIOUS. I've been going to Zips weekly now for 2 months. The customer service is adequate to good, the quality of their cleaning is similarly adequate to good, nothing has been lost, and their prices for what you get are great-- just don't forget: cash only up front! I'm in and out of there quickly (thanks to a fast-paced line, convenient rear parking lot, and bar code scanner on my keys that brings up my account information) with minimal damage to my wallet. Need I ask for more? Well I get a lot more thanks to the time and money saved here that I can spend on other things while still looking presentable on the job. Would I trust the place with my designer labels? Absolutely not. But for my run-of-the-mill work clothes the place is absolutely perfect and I'd recommend it accordingly. read more

If a business can afford to set up state-of-the-art computers with key fob technology to track your dry cleaning order, then it should probably be able to spring for credit card machines. My bet is that it's a tax evasion scheme. The customer service is comically lousy. Once, I was in line behind this woman who was in tears because they shrunk an expensive sweater. She totally lost it when the manager suggested that perhaps the sweater had not shrunk. Instead, he posited that she had gained some weight between the time she had dropped it off and when she picked it up. Hilarity ensued. The in by 9, out by 5 thing is clutch, though, when you're in a pinch and need that suit cleaned for a last minute meeting. Yes, this place is super inexpensive ($1.95 for almost everything) and fast.....BUT ZIPS is not to be trusted with anything of value. They are not good at removing stains (even if you point them out), they do not follow directions (such as a crease on front of pants), they are not gentle with delicate fabrics (ie: flimsy dresses), its common to get items back with buttons missing..... Bottom line- don't take anything here you really care about. Take those items to a real dry cleaners. For everyday shirts/pants, this place is wonderful. read more

I have use ZIPS since I moved to the VanNess area. My first impression was: They do a quality job for way less than other Dry Cleaners. But, a few weeks ago, I had a few expensive shirts and 1 pant with broken buttons and when I requested them to be replace a manager refuse. ZIPS is a inexpensive dry cleaning with no accountability for their mistakes, keep this in mind before using the service. Think twice before bringing expensive clothing to this place. I was a customer that use to spend $hundreds per month here and knew a good amount of the employees, but a few weeks ago a new manager decided to not be accountable for their mistakes. The worst though, is that they somehow completely stained the inner band of a pair of black Max Mara pants that I brought to them to get cleaned. The inner band is white and came back to me light orange. WTF? Yes, the price is great. But I'm going to keep looking around to find a place that's not too expensive and I feel comfortable bringing designer clothes there. The dressing room is located right next to the line and entrance, so you have to walk past everyone when getting fitted. Not exactly ideal. Although i don't have anything profound to say about Zips, I also don't have much negative to report either. My clothes are always done on time, never had any complaints with the service or how my clothes are dry cleaned. Definitely a great bargain! I would say, don't come here for alterations. After 4+ years of loyal patronage, I will never return to this franchise. I live in SE & work in Arlington, so this location is pretty far out of the way, but up until tonight, worth it for great prices & consistently good dry cleaning. However, tonight I encountered such horrendous customer service I signed up for Yelp to write this review. This store closes a few minutes before posted hours (7pm on sat) and when I realized I would be arriving at 7:02 pm, I called the store to ask if, "Please, dear god, let me in to get all the clothes I need to take on my business trip tomorrow. They are trapped inside the store." The manager hung up on me after telling me they have longer hours than most cleaners & I should have come earlier if it was that important. Also, they lost 8 of my husband's shirts for 7 months and didn't even apologize, much less offer to reimburse. As a franchise operation, the stores vary widely in quality of cleaning and customer service. Cleaning gets 4 stars, price get 5, but with 1 star for customer service, this location has lost a loyal customer and earned a scathing review. read more

Took 6 pairs of dress pants and suit jacket, to have let out, brought in, and cuffed. Well, I got 5 of 6 back. 1 of the 5 was not done correctly ( which they rectified quickly), another pair of pants that I got back wasn't even mine, and they completely lost the other. I asked if they would check and I felt as if they did a hap-hazard job. Never will be going back again. The sucky part of this whole issue, is that of all the pants I got back, the one lost was my favorite pair. So bummed. The cleaners I used to go to closed so I began using this facility several months ago. The customer service is terrible. Every employee, on every visit, acts as though they simply can't be bothered and are put out that they have to assist customers. My most recent visit was on Tuesday morning, September 18th. There was a young woman who never greeted me and never spoke except to say "phone number?" and "$24.22." No thank you, no nothing! If you have other options, use them. read more

If I could rate no stars I would. TLDR; ZIps destroyed one of my favorite blazers and then proceeded to yell at me about how it wasn't their fault. I went in to pick my order up and they mentioned one of my items had been stopped for production. I received no call in advance warning me and was surprised to hear it. Staff came back with my blazer completely ruined - the chemicals from the dry cleaning had melted the bonds at the seams of the blazer (made by Athleta). The clerk then proceeded to question why I would every buy such a shoddily made blazer, blamed the manufacturer, complained that he couldn't find a care label... on and on and on without ever apologizing once. I told him repeatedly I understood and stated that I thought Zips should at least bear some responsibility. He argued again and again, blaming me and the manufacturer. I asked him how we was going to make it right and all he said was they'd comp the cost of the dry cleaning for the now destroyed blazer. So I'm out a blazer that retails for $198 and he refunds me $2 after berating me. At multiple points I asked him to stop arguing and was ready to just walk away after paying but he kept going; I had to literally tell him to STOP. I get that Zips is a cheap dry cleaner and you get what you get but I don't need to be accosted or yelled at when my item is the one that's returned ruined. And for God's sake couldn't they at least cover the cost of my dry cleaning for that day ($13). Poor service period. Walked away very upset and they've now lost two customers. I'm lucky that there is a Zips Dry Cleaners conveniently located in Van Ness. It's where I took all my dry cleaning (even though I didn't get too much dry cleaning done, typically, since I used the washer/dryer unit located at my apartment). I love Zips - it's only $1.99 / garment for dry cleaning and the service is always friendly and efficient and your clothes are ready quickly. They have an "in by 9, out by 5" sort of policy, so if you take your clothes in by 9am, they are ready for pick up by 5pm the same day. Unfortunately they're not open on Sundays, but they definitely are open on Saturdays. And the hours are great - they're open til 8pm! And I like their e-mail option - if you leave your e-mail address, they will e-mail you when your clothes are ready! Very convenient. Just keep in mind that it's cash only and you have to pay up front. If you have to dry clean your clothes and you live in Van Ness or nearby, Zips is your place. read more

If you live in the area then you're in luck. If not, and it's not too much of a hassle to get there, you should check it out. At just $1.85 for any garment you cannot beat the value and service. Garments are dry-cleaned and ready for you to pick up the next day. They have free parking in the rear of the building and even when the line is long I've never spent more than 10 minutes getting in and out of this place. They even have little videos playing giving you garment care tips while you're in line! Actually when they interrupt whatever is on TV and I've seen the one on shirt starching twelve times already it can be sort of aggravating. read more

They've never ruined anything of mine and they've always been very quick with turnaround but a couple times my clothes came back looking like they weren't actually cleaned- just pressed. There was a stain on it that didn't come out- and I was easily able to spot remove it myself at home. Shouldn't that come out if it was cleaned? They've also come back with a funky smell a time or two. I'm looking around and trying other cleaners right now but the low prices here may keep my business. I haven't had any horrible customer experiences with employees. While they haven't exactly been super friendly, they've all been pleasant. read more

I have never had a major issue with them but I must say this as a tip...if you need a button repaired among dropping off a load of clothes, just expect it not to be done when you go back for pickup. I think it's been 3 or 4 straight times this has happened to me. It's an obvious procedure issue but I'm not an employee so I can't be for sure. Don't let this deter you from patronizing them though. read more

Big Box Store meets one of Life's Regular Needs! I have been using the local neighborhood dry cleaner for ever, but recently the Zips commercials got to me, so I decided to try it, since my regular cleaner has new staff and new pricing. And Zips touts their low price and quick service. What is different is: If the place is busy, you stand in a que to get to one of the many clerks. You are assigned a key tag (also use your phone number and an ID), where in my neighborhood store they recognize me. You pay for your service when clothes are dropped off, as opposed to when you pick up. Clothes can be ready the next day, and normally are, and you get an email when they are ready. Pick up, you stand in line, they go and search the racks and you get your items. Parking is tight behind the CT Ave location, and the place is pretty big so it is a long walk, and down stairs, so if you are handicapped it is a bit tough. Adequate cleaning -- I've been taking clothes here for over a year and have never had any real problems 3. Fast -- Dropped some clothes off this morning at 8:30, and I'll be back to pick them up at 5:30 CONS 1. Crowded -- if you go at the wrong time (usually Saturdays), the line can get out of control 2. Service without a smile -- especially the tailor, he yelled at me one time because I wasn't doing what he was asking (I'm still not sure what it was) 3. Smelly -- because the place is like a factory line, the smell permeates your clothes...it is so strong it can attack your closet if you're not careful Even though the cleaners right next door to my apartment does a better job, the speed and cost of Zips makes me a repeat customer. read more

ZIPS is a discount cleaner and it's like an assembly line. I've had several items damaged. Men should check the collar button and sleeve bottoms on dress shirts. They often come back damaged, broken or missing. When they do replace the button, it is often an odd size or mismatched. Do not take any good quality wool or blend dry cleaning items to this location! They should be used for laundry items and bulky bedding only. Send your good clothes to a quality cleaner. They also will not return any items left on the item (label pins or uniform pins) or in pockets. They also tend to lose items. They have lost at least three of my shirts. Getting compensated for a loss is a difficult process. They won't even begin to consider compensation until 30 days after the loss is bright to their attention. You can see how often they lose items just spend about a half hour in line -- you usually witness one or two people who had issues with their orders in that time frame.
