With Yelp as my guide, I found this fun and familiar coffee shop while in Capitola. I say familiar, because once we set foot inside, we really felt wholly relaxed and at home here. Cute, full-service coffee house where the friendly baristas will create your coffee/drink anyway you like it. They serve a variety of hot expresso drinks, iced coffees, chais, teas, smoothies and gourmet coffee drinks. They have a variety of pastries, breakfast treats and desserts made in-house and procured from local bakers. I went with the Peanut Butter Mocha and a Lemon & Berry Poppyseed muffin. I'm usually a bit leery about ordering specialty coffee beverages because they are often times too sweet for my tastes, but not this mocha. All my favorite things perfectly balanced together into one hot beverage - peanut butter, coffee and chocolate :-) The muffin was delicious too. You can order all drinks iced, blended or hot. In addition to great coffee and tea, Zizzo's features a warm and relaxing atmosphere with a soft electric fireplace, cozy leather chairs, indoor/outdoor seating and free wi-fi for customers. I had only been into Zizzo's once and that was several years ago. The latte I'd had was one of the smoothest and most delicious I've ever experienced. I went in this morning to see if it was as delicious as I'd remembered and not only was it just as heavenly as I remembered, but the true standout was the service! The woman behind the counter made each person feel welcome and taken care of and like they were a part of the family. She remembered things about each person in line, as they were all regulars apparently, and made thoughtful suggestions when asked for recommendations on drinks and baked goods. We found this place because I searched espresso on Yelp. I've learned if you want a REAL coffee bar you can't search coffee, macchiato, or cappuccino because even McDonald's has these options! Well now I've learned I need to search Cortado or Gibraltar since that is really what I prefer. We went to this place because it was on our route and it got great reviews. It was a cute little place and was a real coffee bar, but when I asked for a Cortado or Gibraltar they didn't know what it was. They said they would figure it out and make me one, but from my experience that is never a good idea. So I just had them make me a macchiato and holy smokes it was STRONG!! I'm use to a strong drink as I started out drinking espresso and love turkish coffee, but holy smokes this was stout! So if you like a really strong coffee drink this is YOUR place!! I will say the staff was super kind and while one person was making my drink they did look up the drinks I requested and said they would add it to the menu. We were just passing through town so I won't get the opportunity to try it, but hopefully someone will fall in love with these drinks as I have! Oh and BTW they are the same drink, but the Gibraltar is in a Gibraltar glass and the Cortado is just in a typical small coffee cup. So it just depends on how they serve it as to what they call it. :) read more

I've been coming to Zizzo's off and on for a few years specifically for coffee. The coffee drinks I've had here are about the same I can get anywhere else and for about the same amount of money. So why do I come here? Zizzo's is located nearby where I live. But so are the Starbucks locations by Kohls and inside the Capitola Mall and Target. I have to drive by a Starbucks to get to Zizzo's. I choose to come to Zizzo's because it's a locally run small business and as a Capitola resident, I try to fully support my local businesses as much as possible and I will continue to do so. read more

I'd like to preface this by saying I do not live in Capitola, I live in the East Bay. However, I gladly drive over an hour to patron this amazing coffeehouse! Not only does it have delicious beverages (the dark chocolate blended mocha is to die for!) but the staff is incredible. They treat everyone like a best friend and are working their tails off during this roller coaster of a year! One thing that I love about Capitola is the abundance of surf culture. Although I lived in a landlocked state, I am a Pisces and have quite the affinity for water. I'm pretty much a fish, which is also why I say I don't eat fish. In any case, after my SUP lesson, some errands, and dumping my mom off for her manicure so I could cruise around in her BMW, I was craving coffee. As much as I love Mr. Toots, that area was a mess, so I headed over here. Coffee is pretty much coffee (especially iced), so my large iced latte with one pump of toasted marshmallow syrup and one pump of peanut butter syrup was okay. What made it better is that they gave me extra ice because they filled my cup up with too much coffee. This is service. They have indoor and outdoor seating, as well as little treats (I had two mini cupcakes, yummy!). This is going to be my go-to spot for coffee when I'm in Capitola. read more

Since I'm going to be spending a bit of time in the Capitola/SC area, I want to branch out (beyond Starbucks/Peets etc) and support local businesses. My visit started off well...the barista was super friendly and told me they were having their official grand opening at 4pm. And the concept/vibe of the space (coffeehouse/wine/beer bar with lots of tables and seats and comfy chairs) was refreshing. The coffee was pretty good (iced soy latte)...then things went downhill. I chose a spot near the back, and noticed there was a sign that said the area was a tech free zone after 4. I thought, how quaint (and slightly annoying) in this digital age! And I had a chuckle since I've seen a lot of this happening in Oakland/Berkeley. Since it was barely 1:30, I had plenty of time to do some writing before the alarm would go off and I'd have to put away my cell/laptop. Then some guy (Owner? No idea because he didn't bother acknowledging my existence) started milling around and setting things up for their 4pm grand opening. He was putting out candles and flowers and people started trickling in and helping and I started looking around warily. Finally, I asked someone if I needed to move and I was told 'you're fine' in a tone I've heard when I slip into a coffee shop for a quick drink with 10 mins till close (I know, I know...I'm one of those people. But rarely, promise!) Anyway, the same guy comes to the table I'm sitting at, plops down a 'reserved' sign then goes to the nearby bar area and starts blasting Peter Gabriel. Okay...I get it. Your 4pm grand opening is really starting at 2. That, or you really want me out of there. Just like the first reviewer, Scott, I typically brew my own espresso at home with an Aeropress (which, btw, is the most awesome coffee gadget EVER). This has left me pretty spoiled, as I've gotten used to impossibly smooth and delicious coffee. Zizzo's may actually be the first place I've been with espresso that tastes like I made it at home. I am sincerely impressed Zizzo, well done! I came here on a total whim while I was down in the area for turkey day with the family... glad that I did! It's not the greatest location, just nestled in with the rest of the shops behind the crapitola mall, but that will not stop me from coming back. It's also a little on the pricey side, but not outrageous. Mmm, I still have coffee breath... fantastic. I wish I could give 4.5 stars. They lose at least .5 for being out of the way from anywhere else I would want to go, being a little pricey, but mostly for the awful christmas music playing the whole time I was there. Anything with the dark chocolate here is amazing. Cute decor and good help. I visited them when they were first open and wasn't all that wowed but I have been finding myself coming back more and more recently. Try them for a nice alternative to the big chains and make sure to relax a little while you are here. It is worth it. read more

Mexican Mocha, is what it's all about! They changed the recipe back to the old one, which I think is so much better. It has more cinnamon in the mix. Everyone who works here is super nice and the owners actually work too, which I give two thumbs up! They have tons of different and unique drinks you can't find at starbucks. When I stepped inside, I thought it would be instant love. The pretty tables and chairs really class up the joint, as do the cute little potted plants placed on each table. I checked out the menu prior to coming and was totally sold on the cool drink offerings. I ordered the 16oz. iced blackberry white mocha ($4.35 - the most expensive drink on the menu, why??) but I requested nonfat milk and easy ice. While I did enjoy my mocha, it tasted too rich and sweet to be nonfat, and there was definitely more ice in my cup than easy ice. I also couldn't taste the espresso at all (which is my greatest pet peeve when it comes to coffee shop drinks). When I settled down in my seat with my laptop, I discovered that the wifi required a code. I went up to the register to request it, but the person working the register was talking to two other girls for a long while--while half-facing me--and the two other girls just stared at me blankly. When she finally acknowledged my presence, she just grinned and said, "Oh! Hi!" That whole situation was kind of off-putting. Can't say I got a great first impression from Zizzo's but I'm still interested in trying the other espresso/gourmet drinks. Maybe I'll stop by if I'm in the area again. But maybe not. read more

Coconut coffee Doesn't it sound really good? That's because it is *WOW* is all I'm going to say about Zizzo's. This place is a funtastical place to be if you're as addicted to coffee as I am. The place is cute, has a very homey feel, and is so unpretentious in its welcoming atmosphere. Not to mention the *ridiculous* amount of coffee selections they have! Not only do they offer over 20 different roasts- each of which they sell the beans for (so you can make it at home!), they also boast an amazing selection of lattes, mochas, iced coffee and other espresso drinks. Want something sweet? Try their peanut butter mocha coffee. Need something with some fruit in it? Why not have their white chocolate raspberry coffee? Feeling adventurous? Try their tuxedo- it's every bit as good as the white and chocolate mocha on its own, but even better because it's blended to perfection. Want a regular cup-o-joe? They offer at least 6 brews at any given day. Today, they had a coconut infused coffee. I am a fan of anything coconut, and this coffee certainly doesn't disappoint. Paired up with my chocolate croissant, it was the perfect breakfast for this cold morning. This place is similiar to Starbucks but better since they have tons of stuff to pick from: baked goods, iced tea, coffee, fruit drink, hot chocolate, etc. I got a shaken iced tea with mango green tea and it was so refreshing! My husband got the Mexican hot chocolate and it had a spicy green mint taste to it. YUM!!! They had outdoor seating and indoor on a couch by the fire which is nice with magazines! Hmmm. If they did not have the word "coffee" in the company name this would be an easier review. The reason is that coffee is a small part of their business and their coffee is not good. I ordered the cup of coffee at 2pm in the afternoon and it was warm (not hot) and watery. It tasted like it was left over from the morning. So coffee gets one star. But the ambiance is quite nice and the wine bar looks promising. And they have a nice lineup of live entertainment (mostly jazz). So I will likely return in the evening to check out the wine bar. I hope they take better care of their wine they do their coffee. UPDATE -- APRIL 25, 2016 I did return for the entertainment on a recent evening. They attract a regular and loyal crowd and everyone seems to really enjoy themselves. I had fun. A decent appetizer and wine selection (although I'd have loved more local wines). Anyway, I updated my rating to 4-stars. I also REALLY appreciate it when a business owner actually reads these reviews. Large Iced Nonfat Mocha with an add shot....high maintenance never tasted so good! Zizzo's makes it by far better than any other coffee shop. I just started using their frequent buyer card. You have to load it with money to allow them to debit it and give you points. (I know it sounds difficult, but it's not that bad. Plus, because there is money on it, I am less likely to carelessly misplace the card. Anyhow, love their coffee and as Tim M said "highly recommended." read more

I went to the Zizzos on Storke. Great coffee place with more that just coffee. I had the breakfast burrito and really enjoyed it, cheese, eggs (egg beaters), hash browns and bacon was warmed in a panini sandwich grill. I've died and gone to coffee heaven. Although there's a Starbucks a block away, I'd pick Zizzo's anyday! The drinks are excellent, the baked goods have been yummy and it just feels good to be in there. The menu has tons of different drink options and I've tried several different ones and have never been disappointed. The espresso has never been bitter or too strong and the drinks aren't overwhelmingly sweet. I've had yummy chai there and they always add holiday drinks to the menu too. Zizzo's is cute and cozy inside with some tables and a couch. It's not a terribly big location, so might not be a great choice with a large group. They have free wifi too. I always appreciate a great selection of cute coffee and tea related gifts. It's locally owned and it's fairly common to see Joe or Joanne behind the counter. Very relaxing place for a beer, appetizer, and coffee with friends. Nice beer selection with Discretion and Nubo beers, as well as Kona on tap. The Kona imperial stout we all tried was delicious with its coffee flavor. For an appetizer we shared the delicious "chicken and choke" flatbread. The Sweet Italian coffee finished off a relaxing visit with friends. The owner was fun to talk with and provided an excellent atmosphere. As someone who brews his own Espresso on an Aeropress in the comfort of my own home, I usually hit coffee shops for blended drinks to get me through the Route 17 commute in Silicon Valley with an occasional pastry if I skipped breakfast. With that said, Zizzo's has the best and best selection of blended espresso drinks in Santa Cruz county. They get their pastries from Heather's which IMO is the best bakery in Santa Cruz county, and that's about all I need to know. read more

Best-tasting gourmet espresso place around, period. They have a huge selection of drinks and I have tried a fair share of them, hot and cold, and have never been disappointed. My favorite drink, hot or cold is the "Tux" (dark and white chocolate). It's a little place in a shopping center just beside the Capitola Mall, so parking is easy. Stopped by on "Movie Night " for a bottle of Pinot and small plates, what a great place! The bruschetta and balsamic glazed flatbread were excellent accompaniment to the very tasty Pinot Noir poured by our hostess Christina.
