This cafe is my new go to neighborhood spot. I usually go to U Village to get coffee, but now that i know about this cafe, which is kind of behind U village, i will come here instead. The ambience of this cafe is much more laid back and not as busy as u village. I've been back 2 times since my first visit last week, and i love the coffee every time. So, supposedly gift cards don't expire. It's the law, yet Zoka told me my card was too old to use and their system was unable to use it. Say what? This spot is very clean and a great place to go if you need to sit down and get some work done. They seem a little short on people at the moment so the wait can be a little, but you can get over that by sitting at one of their cute tables and just looking around. It's probably been about 10 years since I've visited this location. But I have to say, it doesn't disappoint! Not only is the cafe really large/long, I've started on a diet where I have to drink coffee with sugar free syrups. Some coffee shops don't even offer them any longer, but I have to say that the sugar free vanilla syrup they offer here is the best I've had so far. I came in for a quick coffee and was met with unfriendly, rude, and unprofessional employees. While looking at the menu both women behind the counter kept pretending to look at their wrist as if they were looking at watch. Not sure if they were trying to make us order faster or we were talking too long to order, but there was no line and we barely walked up to the counter to look at the menu. We ordered a latte and an iced Americano which took them less than a minute to make and when they finished our drinks they didn't even call our drinks or say anything about our order being finished. To make it worst they girls just went back to gossiping by the cash register area. Zoka please train your baristas to be friendlier and professional because the way we were teated today was sad. For reference came 9/1/2025 at 1:20pm and there was no line and a few people studying/sitting in the cafe. read more

There are multiple entry points at this location, and the space itself has plenty of seating. Entering at the 'front' there is a long counter, and friendly staff greets most of the time. On multiple occasions, I've enjoyed a solid cup of pour over coffee. Although not as cheap as their drip of the day, they have a solid lineup of roasts. Except for one instance, where the barista refused to honor a unique coffee request, we have had no issues. As of today, I've been given an assurance that is a one-off and will be addressed. However, the -1 rating remains. Seated, I find the music at a comfortable volume, the lighting pleasant, and the temperature of the space equally comfortable. For food options, you have your choice of locally produced pastries, breakfast sandwiches and burritos. Overall, I enjoyed my visit because they offer drink options that allow the customer to try their coffee before buying it. As always, your individual experiences will vary. read more

Oh Zoka, what happened? What was once a solid neighborhood cafe for casual studying and yummy lattes has now become a cafe with cut throat seating and lackluster coffee. I still love the convenient location, hence not giving it the lowest possible rating, but everything else has just taken a plunge since I first started coming here. The service is nonexistent, the outlets don't all work, the bathrooms are frequented by homeless folks who enter through the side entrance, and the coffee is just bad. When I splurge and spend $4.50 on a lavender mocha, I expect better than some watery, lukewarm chocolate concoction. I can forgive the lack of latte art but, this was so awful, I didn't even want to finish the rest of it. Someone let me know when the coffee gets better here. Until then, I'll be taking my caffeine business elsewhere. read more

I am quite confused as to why so many of the coffee shops close so early in Seattle and this one still closes early by my schedule but closes late by the standard of other coffee shops in the area. Came in with my daughter and husband, ordered a caramel latte, and barista corrected me on how to say caramel -_- Also made it with whole milk when I asked for breve. Also got the size wrong, I ordered * 2* 16oz but received a 16oz and 12 oz. Having them remake the drink correctly seemed to be a task, and even though it was suppose to have 4 shots, it didn't taste strong as my husbands 4 shot latte. Daughter declined getting something as she saw the condescending attitude of both baristas. Say what you want about Starbucks, when a mistake is made they do try to make it right. We'll try the location near Greenlake next, but this location was a serious bust. Zoka is my favorite coffee franchise in Seattle, and the Blakeley location is my favorite Zoka. You should come here if you're looking for consistently delicious coffee beverages and a table near gigantic, wall-wide windows. Some go-to Zoka specials are their honey cardamom latte (unbelievably good! I LOVE getting this served hot during fall/winter) and several creative twists on a classic chai. But they also excel at the basics - Zoka is home to my favorite vanilla latte and a spectacular drip coffee. On my most recent visit, I had a regular iced chai latte, which I was happy to see served with a moderate amount of ice without any special request on my part (I hate when you order an iced beverage and then it's practically all ice, no beverage). It's not the best chai I've ever tasted, but it is on the spicier side and it satisfied the chai craving I'd had for the past few days. My friend, who is a former Retreat barista, ordered their plain 12 oz latte and commented that it was perfectly steamed, served at the perfect temperature, had a good texture/consistency of foam, and was "very solid" all around. As always at Zoka! They are consistently excellent and neither of us has had a bad latte here in our many, many trips. University Zoka is my favorite coffee shop to study in. It's close to UW (a short walk from the 65 bus stop), and the huge windows and big wooden tables make it a great place to spread out and settle in for a productive morning or afternoon. Parking can be a little dicey in this crowded area, so if it's not a Sunday I usually opt to bus here. read more
