I have been coming here to see Raquel since 2013. I found the salon with a groupon way back when and I'm so happy I did! Even after moving to Vinings, this is my ONLY place for hair! The salon is very close to Emory, but it's a little off the main drag, so parking is a piece of cake. The salon itself is very eclectic-- lots of cool art, jewelry, and (of course) a wide array of hair products. There is also a comfy sitting area with magazines, a keurig, and sweet treats (Monica always finds delicious goodies) for anyone waiting. I have rarely had to wait more than 5 min though. The color table is in the middle of a room so you can chat with other clients and read magazines while you process. Pretty cool. The salon offers an array of services including cuts, styling, color, punky color, and keratin treatments. Now onto the hair: Raquel is an artist. She is amazing. Her color skills are second to none, and her cuts are fabulous. Whether you want a beautiful balayage, a foxy bob, cheerful highlights, or pastels and pinky colors, Raquel has you covered. She will listen to what you want and any concerns, and she will explain what she is planning to do so there isn't any confusion. The results, in my experience, have always exceeded my expectations. I am a natural brunette, and when I met her, my hair was blue black with bangs. We transitioned to a brunette bob with honey highlights, then a blonde lob, an auburn mid length cut, long mahogany waves, long red with rose gold highlights and side bangs and most recently, long red with rose gold, violet, and pink undertones. Every cut has grown out well and the colors have blended and looked gorgeous long after most would have faded. The product lines are really high quality and styling at the studio always makes me feel completely gorgeous before I walk out the door. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of cut, color, and experience. I have recommended this studio (and especially Raquel) to several friends and they have each been thrilled with their results. Mimi the puppy is extremely sweet! I love the entire staff and the environment is extremely relaxed! They are true artist. The building can be a little tricky to find but the staff are wonderful about giving detailed directions. I highly recommend checking out the paintings on the walls from local Atlanta artist and her creative decorations throughout the place. Today I got multiple blondes put into my hair and a trim. I made an appointment on the recommendation of a friend. It was for Friday at 3:30 and I was told it would be with a woman named Tara. When I arrived, no one greeted me and I had to wait around a few minutes until someone noticed I was there. The woman who spoke to me looked confused and asked if I was there for an appointment with a different woman. I told her about the appointment I had booked. She claimed she remembered me from the phone call and said that I had made an appointment for Saturday and that Tara didn't come in until four. I told her the appointment I had made had been for Friday because I would be out of town on Saturday and that was the whole reason I was getting a haircut. She insisted that I requested an appointment for Saturday and didn't make any effort to offer a substitute time or admit that she made a mistake when booking. Ok - I've got Hair Cut Anxiety and Raquel was amazing. This place has an awesome studio, cotour weird ambience thing going on. I like that the color is done at the table in the center with other clients. Great for conversation and comfortable. I had a groupon for cut, color, shampoo. Raquel asked that I send her a pic of my hair ahead of time so she would have time to prepare and know what to do. I arrived and she was ready for me. This place can be a bit pricy (trimming my layered long hair runs me around $60 pre-tip) but it's worth it to me to not have to wear my hair in a ponytail for two weeks because i'm embarrassed of what it looks like. Zonolite Hair Studio was formerly known as Salon Me. www.salonme.net I have always heard amazing things about the waxing services at Salon Me. I found out that although the name and location have changed, the same staff is still there. My appointment was for 5:30pm and although I did get there 15 minutes early, I was really shocked that no one greeted me for 10 minutes. There was no receptionist working and the two ladies who were doing hair acted like I didn't exist. I was sitting there getting more and more angry and thinking about walking out. And just then Sejal came out from the back and greeted me with such charm that I totally forgot about sitting there being upset. I went in for the bikini wax service. The price was $30 before tip which is about what I have always paid at other salons. Sejal is amazingly talented with the waxing , quick and as pain-free as I have ever experienced. She also is very friendly and chats while she is working to keep your mind off what is really going on. I highly recommend her. I will definitely return for more waxing with Sejal. And I won't be offended if I sit there awhile because now I know that is how this salon works. However, I can't give this place 5 stars because of my poor first impression. read more

I was referred here by one of my good friends and was not disappointed. I know that most males look at a haircut as a normal thing, but I highly advise you to come to this place. I requested Monika and she was fantastic. I went from having long hair that I grow out (over 12 inches) to a perfectly suited contemporary cut. What makes her stand out is the fact that the cut is suited for your face and will grow the right way rather than seeming out of place as it gets longer. I went to Zonolite Hair studio about 2 weeks ago with a living social coupon in hand, and a thick mess of frizzy hair that had long outgrown a short bob. I was praying that, even though I'd told them about the living social deal when I made the appointment, they wouldn't skimp on service. I was not disappointed. When I stepped inside, I was greeted by the friendly receptionist, Steve, and then by my stylist, Toni, no more than a minute later. Toni was great. She had me sit down first and listened to my gripes about my current hair situation, what I wanted my hair to look like. She also asked about my usual hair routine, and then gave me two cut options that would help solve my hair issues. Note: Toni cuts hair dry. I'd never experienced a dry cut, but after Toni's work, I know why my hair never looked quite "right" after my previous hair cuts. With a dry cut, she could tell exactly how my hair was falling, where the random wavy and frizzy spots were, and designed the cut to work with my hair. After the cut, she shampooed and washed my hair, then did a blow dry with products. If you're like me and not great at styling your own hair, Toni gives tips along the way so that your hair will still look great after you style it yourself. The price of my haircut without the living social coupon was $60. All in all, I really love my haircut, and was really impressed by the service there. They do little things (like give you a clean gown to change into so that you don't get hair stuck all over your clothes, and Steve even gave me an umbrella to take with me because it had started pouring rain outside and he didn't want me to get my new haircut wet) that go a long way to make their clients happy. Over the years, I have followed her to four different salons; she is one of the few people who can manage my very thick and unruly hair. In those years my hair has been red, brown and various shades of blonde, very short to shoulder length. No matter the style, Monika has made me look great, and given me colors and cuts that were suitable for my corporate job. My hair looks healthier than ever thanks to the recent keratin treatments--I look younger and my at-home hair maintenance time has decreased. I now I have some grey hair, but Monika manages the color well, that nobody notices the grey. I first came to Monika because I was tired of the incompetent work and appointment scheduling at a big-name Atlanta salon. I make an appointment and stick to it. Monika has never mixed up or missed an appointment. I once missed a Saturday appointment and Monika was very gracious about it. Once Monika changed an appointment due to travel and once Monika kept me waiting--but she apologized and explained that she was working on a new client with very thick-hair--something I completely understood. So that is pretty good considering I see Monika 8-10 times per year. Not sure if the couple of negative reviews are coming from actual clients--it sounds like they are not, so I wouldn't much any attention to them. Wish there was a no star button. This is my first review on yelp and I felt inclined to do so because of the terrible experience I had not even going into this salon with the OWNER. I bought the groupon online for the haircut, blow dry, style and it said to text the owner for an appointment. I preceded to do so. I made the appointment and everything was fine. I have been having health problems and could not come into my appointment so I politely texted her and asked if we could switch the date due to health issues around 11:30 at night thinking she would respond in the AM. She very rudely replied, "Next time find a hair dresser that doesn't mind you texting her at midnight and NO" at 3 AM!!! lol. Contradicting. Oh my goodnesssss!!! I just got done with my first brazilian wax ever in life, and it was so great!! I bought the groupon deal and finally went to use it. Sejal did mine. I had read really great reviews online but was still skeptical, i mean, a brazilian wax is still a brazilian wax, honestly how much of a difference can the esthetician make? No, it makes all the difference!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She was so fast, I was done before I knew it, like 20 minutes. I thought it was going to be a 40 min torture fest, but it went by so fast! Firstly, she made me feel soooo comfortable about baring it all. She was so friendly and wonderful! And SO FAST and AMAZING at what she does! So I'm definitely a convert. I'm very disappointed in Monika!! I scheduled an appointment a week ago and in the past 24 hours I have received 5 conflicting emails regarding my appointment. I was a little confused, so I called and left a message. After 2 messages I was advised that I was misinformed about my appointment and could I reschedule another time in less than 24 hours. Unfortunately my schedule is not as flexible and I work at the times she offered me via text messages. I told her I was disappointed but would be there for the later time. She responded and told me she was sorry she could not accommodate me at all and "good luck elsewhere". Sorry... But that is not very customer service oriented. I would not recommend their services for they feel they are too good to follow through on their commitments!!! read more

I purchased a living social deal for a bikini/brazilian wax. Sejal did the waxing. A few things: First, I walked in the room and she declared that I pull my pants down so she could see if the hair was too long. I was a little taken aback. Second, she was not gentle at all. I have super sensitive skin and I have never been in more pain from a waxing. The force in which she pulled the hair was unreal. I have a reasonably high tolerance for pain, but this was out-of-control. At one point, well when I couldn't take it anymore, I sat up from the waxing and just asked her to stop. There was blood, which I know is sometimes normal.... I hadn't been waxed in probably seven months. Fast forward to the next day... I was going to the bathroom and noticed a red rash starting to form just below my hip bone and on my thigh. By that evening my entire right thigh and part of my left thigh had hives as well as the entire area surrounding my lady parts (sorry for TMI). My right leg, from my knee to my upper thigh, swelled up at least three times its normal size. At first, I thought I'd take some benadryl, but then a doctor friend told me I should definitely see a dermatologist. $150 later, I had a prescription for steroids and 2 different anti-itch medications (one topical, one oral.) I joined yelp, which I use all the time to get recommendations, just to write this review. If you have sensitive skin, I would caution you to just forfeit your living social deal, as you can see it was not worth the $20 paid for the deal. Please keep in mind, I've been waxed many times and this has never happened to me before. Update: I was pleasantly surprised to get a phone call from Steve, the owner of the salon last week. He was concerned about what happened (after reading the review) and wanted to find out what he could do to make the situation better. I was very appreciative for his call and his concern. I really dislike confrontation and was hesitant about calling the salon after this happened even though many people told me I should. Steve is compensating me for my medical bills ( I sent him all the receipts) as well as talking to the woman who waxed me. I think this says a lot about him and his business. He clearly wants his customers to be happy and knows the right thing to do. I changed my review from 1 star to 3 stars. read more

Moving from another city, I was dreading finding a new hairstylist, but when someone recommended Becca to me at Zonolite, I took the chance. I had suffered the residuals of a bad hair dye job from my last encounter with another salon and was afraid getting some highlights to make it look halfway normal was going to be difficult and pricey. bought two waxing deal through Livingsocial in July 2011 and shortly after made an appt for my Brazil wax. The salon is hidden in the back of some buildings so it took me a minute to find it. Called the salon a few times as I got lost and the people there were very friendly and guided me to their salon. I walked in and everybody in there was super friendly and chatty. I was greeted by Sejal, who took me to the back to a clean and neat room. We chatted a few minutes, I told her that I have very sensitive skin and fine hair (sorry for the TMI) thus to pls be careful. she said that she has been doing this for over 10 yrs and not to worry. Needless to say, she was beyond rough, not gentle or mindful of my "forewarning of sensitive skin". I sat up of few times as I couldn't take the pain and she cautioned me to pls stay down. She said that I shouldn't break out and if I have pain to use diaper rash cream??? WTH!! My area was not clean after 20 some minutes of tugging and pulling and there were still some areas with hair. I couldn't take it anymore and said that I was done, sat up and ignored the pieces of hair but couldn't ignore the red bumps that started to show. She put DIAPER RASH cream and asked me to take some Benedril. Again, WTH!!!! I politely said thank you and walked out. That evening I found my area to be full of rash and bumps, which took over 2 weeks to go away. I did not go to the doctor (which I regret now) but ended up taking some home/herbal remedies after a week of itching and redness. I wish I had read the review from another person here who also bought the livingsocial deal and also had the same issues, I'm afraid to say that the wax used may have been old or not clean. I must add that I am still dealing with in-grown hair problems til this date, which I NEVER EVER had before. And I have had 20+ waxing done before. to make matters worth, I still have another voucher which expires in July 2012. Waste of money as I will never ever go back there again. At least not for waxing. It is true, you get what you pay for so I'm sucking it up. If you read this and need the voucher and have had good experience with Sejal, please let me know. I have received the Best Haircut Ever from Monika at Zonolite Studio (the color is fantastic as well). I spent 2 weeks in very windy conditions in Iceland, taking a wool cap on and off because of the wind and cold - and it was wet sometimes and bone dry others. My hair always looked good.
