Food is super good, but too expensive on a Missoula budget. If you can afford big city prices then sure, why not. Except you can find better Thai food for cheaper in a big city, as a matter of fact, you can find better Thai food for cheaper in Missoula. @ Any other Thai restaurant. I'm very picky about my Thai food, as it's my favorite. I loved the ambience about this place. Recently went out for dinner here for the first time. Really enjoyed the variety of tables and heights. The slushies special cocktail drinks were amazing!! Everything I tried was delicious. My family and I ordered for the table: the coconut curry with tofu, the spring rolls, the pineapple fried rice. So delicious! Everything I felt was reasonably priced for the portion sizes, and this is a great spot to come for a fancy date, family dinner or takeout! read more

On food alone I would give this place a 4. With the exception of the Pad Thai which is bone dry. The flavor is good but they really need to add more sauce. As another poster mentioned the heat is hit and miss. The last time we were there I ordered a 3 and it was more like a 1. Luckily they brought me some chili oil and that helped. This last time I ordered 4 and it was about perfect. My only beef with this place is that they don't take reservations. Now in the summer that is no big deal as people can wander around downtown. This is Montana though and in the winter it can be dam cold out. This Sat when we went the temp was below zero with some crazy wind so it was horrible outside. Basically then in the winter months you have to show up, make a reservation and then go sit in your car until they call you. There was nine of us so you have four cars with people sitting in below zero weather for the simple fact that they are too lazy to take reservations. I don't see myself coming back here until next summer, and in Mt that won't be until around June. read more

This is a great restaurant with terrific food and a cool vibe. I'm always recommending the Panang Chicken to friends. It was soooo good!! The rest of the food is definitely tasty, as well. Enjoyed a nice dinner on the patio in front of the restaurant - covid had the indoor setting closed. Beef yellow curry, not dry or stringy beef, and enjoyed the Tom Kha soup, which was on the creamier side versus a brothy type. Found the meal to be a great value for the price. The owners were incredibly friendly which made the dining experience better. Tried a different salad dressing, warm peanut. Not my thing, but salad serving portion was a good. The only problem I have with Zoo Thai is that I wish there were more locations! The staff are friendly and attentive. The restaurant has an awesome vibe and modern Asian decor. Two words: Khao Soi. The authentic Thai cuisine will surprise you in this casual, fun setting. They seem to be busy (but not too much so) which attests to the food and atmosphere. The Pad Thai and traditional dishes are fresh and prepared with care. Eat in or take out. The selection of drinks is varied and unusual. Have you ever tried Thai Lemonade instead of Thai iced tea? I know, right? Every guest should be required to at least try the Khao Soi. This traditional dish may be the most delicious, most overlooked dish on the menu. Although I recommend all of the popular curries and specialties, this noodle dish was so good, I wanted to get up and shout, "Everyone, you have got to taste this!" Our server was attentive and helpful. Good prices and great downtown location. What have you got to lose? Next time we are in Missoula, this will be our first stop. read more

First time OK. A bit crowded when I got there and hostess told me I would have to wait. Enquired about an empty chair at the bar which was a bit squeezed in on both sides by guests. Her response was sure, I could have that seat if I didn't mind asking the other patrons to move over... it was up to me. Odd... either ask the other patrons to make room for me or make the decision that it was too crowded and remove the stool. We're not at the Ox. My waiter/server was great... very friendly and helpful and enthusiastic about the restaurant. I had the fishcakes (delicious) and the Khao Soi (coconut curry chicken)... fresh, tasty, and satisfying...even had some leftovers. I chose the 3-star spicy... pretty perfect for me, though I could have gone spicier. There were 3 mistakes (3 times) on my check that I had to point out. That was fine... it was all solved with a bit of good humor. Second try: I went with my two (grown) sons. We ordered the fried dumplings to start, which were really good. Son 1 ordered the shrimp/pineapple fried rice. He said it was "o.k." I tried it and concurred... just "o.k." Son 2 ordered the Khao Soi (on my recommendation from ordering it the first time) and, as I had, ordered 3-star spicy. It was good but didn't taste at all spicy to him. I tried it and it was nowhere near the 3-star spicy I had ordered in the exact same dish not long before. I think they need to get their consistency down in this regard. The most disappointing dish was the one I ordered, the Laab (chicken salad). For $13 I expect a salad to occupy the space of a dinner plate but his very small portion came on a salad-sized plate and consisted of minced chicken on a measly bed of greens with some grated carrot and red cabbage on the side. The worst part was the watery liquid that accumulated at the bottom of the salad. I tipped my plate and dumped it onto the plate the fried dumplings had been on. It filled the spoon our sauce had come in (I'm trying to add a photo if Yelp will let me). Not at all appetizing. The bill for three (with one glass of wine, one cider, one sprite) came to $71. Son 2 said he noticed already that they had raised their prices from when he was there the first time. Their prices are steep for what you get. Our server was great, but I don't think I'll be seeking this place out again, at least not for awhile. read more

Pleasantly pleased. A couple little things to work out but they'll get there. High hopes going in. The owners are linked to Jackson WY's Teton Tiger and Missoula already has a great Thai option at SaWaDee. No disappoint to be found! As a group we family-styled 5 dishes and everything was excellent. Entirely pleased and will return. The manager or owner was genuinely interested in how our experience was. Entrees are about $15 each. The Gai (chicken) Satay was as good as I've had anywhere in Asia. Curries and entrees all had complex flavors and fresh ingredients. Another appetizer was good, but priced a little too high. The only real issue is the 0 to 5 spicy chart. We had one person order a 4 and felt they got a 1, and ordered two curries that come minimum of 2 but were closer to that 4. So other than entirely subjective things that no one can measure at all - they did alright! Excellent location in the new Mercantile building. Reminds me that anyone complaining about tearing down the old building - probably hadn't set foot in it. Huge upgrade and now houses good food options. read more

When Zoo Thai was recommended to us we were told they had good food and a hip vibe on the interior. Sold! We ordered the Ginger Tofu Stir Fry, level 3 spicy, with extra sides of chili in case we wanted to heat things up a bit. We also tried the spring roll for an app. The spring rolls were well cooked and, while they weren't the tastiest we've had, the fresh veggie salad and sweet and sour sauce more than made up for it. The tofu dish, however, was VERY good; beautifully seasoned & perfectly cooked. We loved it! We'll definitely be back to try other dishes. read more

Hours of operation are a bit strange but the world is upside down and most u.s. workers have been kidnapped by aliens so I don't blame Zoo Thai. Zoo Thai constantly works under extreme pressure because they are the only good asian restaurant in Missoula. So this place is packed every night. Be prepared to wait over an hour for seating. Customers can't make reservations. And don't mess with the maitre d', he'll put you in your place in a NY minute if you give him attitude. He's like the "soup nazi" on Seinfeld. read more

Passing thru town, restaurant was welcoming even though it was visibly a scene for 20 somethings and my family consisted of two kids, myself, and wife. Everybody loved their meals. I give this 4.5 stars. I'm not sure why this is rated only 3.5 stars when it is by far the best Thai restaurant in Missoula. I ordered a curry dish that was 3 stars. The flavors were phenomenal but the heat/spice was lacking. But that was easily remedied by adding some additional flair from the spice condiment tray. We sat at the bar and the service was very good--very friendly. My only complaint is how loud it is. Yes it's a busy Saturday night and it was packed but it was so loud I could barely hold a conversation with my date. read more

Best Thai food in Missoula! I've never had anything just average. The fried duck curry is my favorite. High recommend the Thai ice tea too! I am visiting from out of town and have local access to truly incredible Thai food; I was prepared to be underwhelmed by this place but it more than holds its own without needing to be rated on a "Missoula" scale. Zoo Thai could keep up in Los Angeles! I had the laap with sticky rice (delivered jasmine rice but this was recognized quickly by my server), which was a solid 4 stars, and the Khao Soi, which lagged a bit (flavor profile but more than anything these noodles were for sure overcooked) but was still very respectable. read more

We waited way too long to try this place. We used to eat Thai constantly living in PDX, including Andy Rickers' joints. Zoo Thai can compete and makes me feel like I'm in the city again, even from a takeout box. I ordered the (very not-thai) pad thai but it still had the rounded flavor I was hoping for. (For the record, thai food is supposed to have fish sauce and taste a little "fishy" at times! Did someone really complain about a little funk from a thai spot?!) Honestly, the steamed dumplings were my favorite; they were very flavorful and I could taste that they care about what they put out even in a "starter." We'll be ordering again. read more

I had huge expectations so maybe that's why it was so disappointing. Love the environment , LOVE the fried dumplings but everything else was simply OK. We had the duck curry and pineapple shrimp fried rice as well as the chicken satay gai. I am a huge duck fan and I noticed it was a bit over cooked and the curry was a bit thin and definitely too sweet to finish in one sitting. I don't think it's too big of a request to order something that I enjoy eating after a few bites. After reading reviews of the other dishes, I'm not too compelled to come back. Masala is still my favorite curry place in all of Missoula and for HALF the price it is so much better. I'd say come in and get appetizers but save yourself the money and disappointment of enduring an entree that'll be going shamefully home in a takeout box. read more

Came in with my family and while we were waiting about 20 for our waitress to bring over our check, we asked the male host if he could bring us some warm water to make our son a bottle. He laughed at us and said in a very snide "yeah sure I'll bring you some for your bottle. Hope you don't stay to feed him here, not like we're on a 20-minute wait or anything." Off put by his response we said that we didn't appreciate his tone and that we were getting ready to leave but were still waiting for the check. And he basically said that he has kids, and we should've been prepared and that he can tell anyone to get out of his restaurant. Unsure of what happened to this middle-aged man to be talking to customers this way, but definitely will not be going back and do not recommend going here to anyone. To add on to it while we were leaving there was about 5 empty tables in the restaurant and no one waiting at the door. By the looks of some of the other reviews, it appears that he does this quite often! read more

To preface this, I got an order to go. I got the fried dumplings and Khao Maan Gai, which was their nightly special. I was told by a few people this place is pretty good, but I was very disappointed with what I got. The fried dumplings were OK and probably the best part. The only problem with the fried dumplings was that they were very cold. The sauce that came with the dumplings just tasted like straight soy sauce. The nightly special was steamed chicken over seared ginger and garlic rice, with chili ginger soap sauce on the side. Without the sauce, this dish was absolutely flavorless. The chicken didn't even taste like it had any salt or other spices on it whatsoever. The reason for this was probably because the sauce was almost purely soy sauce; so much salt. This dish was also cold. The temperature of the food might've been my fault, although I arrived right on time to pick up my food. But the bigger problem was that the food was very bland and a fairly small portion for the price. I'm not sure I'll be returning because this experience was so underwhelming. read more
