This was a very good breakfast spot fairly close to our hotel along Bay Street. I got a veggie omelette and I was able to get it with egg whites, which wasn't always the case on this trip I took to Florida and Georgia. My friend got the western omelette. We came here after church on Sunday around 10am, and it was pretty empty. As we ate, it started to get fill up. There's a section for kids to play, which, in theory, is cool, but I wonder how often they clean it- especially with this being a restaurant. But, I digress! It's in a basement, which a few restaurants are in the historic district, and not a personal favorite of mine. This place feels like you're at grandmas house, and that was cute. They use large paper table coverings, which I'm only used to seeing at seafood restaurants. So again, unsure how clean things are or if they're just changing out the paper table coverings. I ordered the hash brown platter, and I expected the shredded version, and not breakfast potatoes. They were still good, just unexpected. Coffee is ever flowing here, and that was a nice treat. They don't serve alcohol here! Not a bad thing, but a rarity in the historic/tourist district. Was hoping for a mimosa, but it wasn't terrible that I didn't get one. This is a lowkey place to visit if you're in the area to get breakfast without the frills. Debi 's is located in the basement of the East Bay Street in. It is not wheelchair friendly since you need to be able to walk down 2 sets of stairs to get to the dining room. They are only open for breakfast and lunch hours. They have a mixture of different tables throughout the dining room for tables or 2 to 8 or more. Reservations are not necessary. Its casual dining flip-flops are allowed. I recommend going in early for breakfast because it can get busy after nine. I have a selection of breakfast specials daily from French toast specials, to biscuits and gravy, your traditional breakfast bread, which is what I got. They do not offer any gluten-free bakery or bread options but there is still plenty of things to pick from. Our server was friendly and checked on us regularly. We didn't have to wave her town for refills and she would always pop over at the perfect time to check on us. Lunch is similar to Mrs. Wilkes lunch spread. They offer daily lunch specials throughout the week from country style steak and country, meatloaf mash potatoes as green beans, to salads, vegetarian options, and a selection of homemade cakes. read more

I dined at Debi's Restaurant last month on the recommendation of some friends after visiting the expo for the Every Woman's Marathon. The restaurant is located on Bay Street, in the basement of the building. We were seated quickly without a wait, but the place filled up fast. Our server was clearly overwhelmed, rushing around and visibly sweating, even though it was a mild November day. I ordered the salmon cakes, which were served on a bed of cheese grits and topped with remoulade sauce. The dish was mediocre at best - filling, but the salmon cakes were a bit dry and could have been more flavorful. The restaurant itself was uncomfortably cold, but oddly enough the bathrooms were warm and cozy - LOL! Overall, I probably wouldn't return to Debi's if I'm back in Savannah. It was an okay experience that served its purpose, but it didn't leave me very impressed. read more

Debi's is a nice, cozy restaurant, serving delicious home style food. They have a great menu with classics, they also have a chef's special menu posted by the day. They have a bar upstairs, when you first walk in. You're welcomed to order your cocktail and sit at the bar, or take it with you to your seat. We dined for lunch on a quiet Monday. This has to be the worst place to eat in Savannah! First, it is in the basement or cellar of a nice business. Smells like grandmas mothball house. We order food and the coffee cups are a great size!!! I ordered a meal that included potatoes, peppers and cheese. When our food came and was at the table we were informed that they are only accepting cash and Venmo only. WTF!!!! Would have been nice to know when we walked in! The food was cold! I never send food back! Ever! I had no choice! The food was cold, the cheese was melted but cold and the potatoes could be picked up by hand and popped in your mouth! Not even like French fry hot! A solid little restaurant in the basement of the building. We came here when there was a 45 min wait at another place and got right in. The waitress was really nice and they were very efficient with with the drinks and the food did not take long to come out. I had the lobster grilled cheese. Excellent breakfast. We hit this place at just the right time on a late Sunday morning when we didn't have to wait for a table. By the time we left the line was up the stairs and out the door. It is a lovely dining room on the underground floor of an old building. I had the hash brown breakfast with mixed vegetables and sunny side up eggs. Kim had the Eggs Benedict. The restaurant is such a pretty place. We went down the stairs and found ourselves with brick walls and floors and very quaint decor. The stuff was super sweet and helpful and that always makes for a great experience. Overall, the food was good. My husband ordered the prime rib but unfortunately was not a fan and our salmon cakes tasted more like tuna but even so, I would not mind ordering those again. Parking is somewhat hard up front due to the business of the street but there is a parking deck about 2 blocks back which is huge. Cute little spot I would not find visiting again. read more

Dairy free review!!! I've recently become allergic to dairy and it has made it hard to go out to eat. Most people seem to not take it seriously when I say I have a severe dairy allergy so I've decided to give my reviews based on this as well as the food, service and atmosphere. (I can't guarantee how it was for me will be the same for you) This restaurant caught our attention because of a big sign outside of it saying they serve breakfast all day! It was closer to noon and we wanted breakfast so we thought we would try it out. This restaurant is in a basement so there are some stairs to conquer. Our server was nice, I don't recall her name but I know it was Debi's daughter. When I explained my allergy she brought Debi to our table. We discussed what was available and what had dairy in it. I decided on eggs, bacon, sausage and hash browns. They explained they would do everything they can to not cross contaminate my food. My wife had the grits, bacon and egg bowl. Everything came out great and the price wasn't bad. Im happy to say there was no issue with my allergy after eating here. They did everything right. If you have any food allergies I would suggest trying this place out but make sure they know what you're allergic to. They will let you know if they can accommodate. Debi's Restaurant on Bay is in a primo location at Savannah's waterfront area. so we expected that it would be a bit pricey. We could not have been more wrong. The fact that they serve breakfast at any time was the deciding factor for us. As soon as we entered the space, we were greeted southern style and immediately escorted to a table. There were so many delightful choices it was hard to decide. I ended up with one of the daily specials, homemade chicken and dumplin's and corn bread. My husband ordered eggs Benedict. The chicken and dumplin's took me right back to my childhood when my great and would make this dish for Sunday dinners. The cornbread was moist with a toothsome crust and tasted like dessert. It was only $11. The eggs Benedict consisted of perfectly poached eggs, Canadian bacon and a creamy hollandaise sauce served over a toasted English muffin. We chose this restaurant for breakfast because it is in our hotel (in the basement). And while the service was excellent and everyone was very friendly, the food itself was just sort of "meh." There was only one other table of diners when we were there, yet our food arrived lukewarm. And nothing had much flavor. Portions seemed overlarge, as if quantity would make up for the quality. I wish I could be more positive, given how pleasant everyone was. But the fact is that I've had similar-quality meals from "free" hotel buffets. read more

Heard a lot of good things about Debi's and it was legit after visiting today. We tried various things on the menu. I personally had the fish and grits along with peach cobbler as the wash down. The portion size of the fish and grits was just right, not too little and not too much. The fish was fresh, hot and well seasoned. And the grits were creamy, soft and also well seasoned with the sauce that covered both components. I chose to wash it down with some lemonade, which was great and tasted like it was fresh squeezed (even if it wasn't). The peach cobbler was good, not bad for a restaurant but not as good as my Godmother's (which is my measuring stick ... as hers is the best I've ever had). Clean plates all around verified the verdict. Debi's has great food, not super heavy and it doesn't break your wallet like many tourist destinations. I'd come again and recommend it. read more

Definitely old fashioned and full of good southern charm! The waitresses were all so sweet and all helped each other with their customers! They are very nice and accommodating of children as well. My son had malt pancakes, which was a change from our normal buttermilk pancakes. It's an acquired taste for me! But my fish and grits were out of this world delicious!!! Mmmm I fully enjoyed them! The place is beautiful and super cozy in the basement level. Unfortunately that is the only good thing I can say about Debi's. The coffee is passable if you have it with cream and sugar like my husband, but I drink mine black, so I could definitely tell I was drinking an ashy, bitter drink. I asked for hash browns with my breakfast and was served cut potatoes that were definitely from a frozen package. When I asked the server about it she said "these are our hash browns" and didn't talk to anyone at our table or checked on us after that. It was only after a long while that she left the bill on our table without a word. My son's fried fish was undercooked and the fries were mushy, but teenagers will eat anything, so he didn't complain. We came here because of the 4.5 star reviews but ended up very disappointed. We went to Debi's because someone recommended it. At first I was disappointed to be going downstairs to eat, but it ended up being great. When you get downstairs its clear that Debi's has a lot of regulars and repeats. When we walked to Debi's we passed a line of restaurants that were empty. One had a mascot out front dressed like a pig waving a flag. There's a lot to avoid in the area. Debi's was an oasis of family run goodness. The southern food was great!
