I live out of town and I had to wait 2 months to get here. I've read their menu so many times I could pass a test about it. I love oysters and can't find anywhere near me to order them. See the crumbs in my basket they are not crumbs they taste like boiled canned oysters that at been breaded. They were tasteless and I keep eating one after the other hoping to get an oyster taste. All I could get was a greasy breading taste. You can also see the excessive grease in the basket too. Worst meal I've ever eaten. Plus it was expensive and this was the appetizer. The ambience was nice very festive and the waitress was kind. But the food was terrible I'm surprised they would even charge people for this. I've had Zydecos a decent amount over a 6 month period and I felt it was time to just call it, this place is incredible. I love Cajun food so tbh I was a bit skeptical here in Warrensburg but damn I love to be proven wrong. Everything I've tried has always been incredible. The gumbo, fried green tomatoes, shrimp po boy, the muffuletta, the chicken fried steak, even the cheeseburger is probably my favorite in town. Service is always great and i can't think of a single complaint. Don't miss this place. read more

Ordered a "blackened" chicken po boy. The chicken was a thin bland, dried out piece of meat. No blackened what so ever. Oh and it was 15 bucks. When I asked the waitress about it, she just said that's the way it is. Will not return. read more

Loved Zydeco... I was promptly greeted by a beautiful and friendly young lady "Amanda" she seated me and requested my drink order. Half a minute later Amanda returned with my drink (perfect Arnold Palmer) and a menu. She then gave me a few minutes to review the menu. Upon returning she asked if I had any question and inquired if I was ready to choose. Amanda was very knowledgeable polite and made thoughtful recommendations. Because this was my first visit I tried several different items to get the full experience. I started with a half pound Boudin Link, it was sensational. I was incredibly impressed that the Boudin was so delicious being so far away from Louisiana or Texas. I also ordered a half serving of red beans and rice with sausage, a half serving of jambalaya and a half shrimp Po boy. The Boudin came out first it was Cooked to perfection, exceptionally well flavored and served with a wonderful spicy remoulade. All of the dishes were very thoughtfully prepared, wonderful flavored, just the right amount of cajun flavors. The portions were huge even as half servings it was much more than I could eat. The cost was very reasonable and well worth it. While the meal was excellent, Amanda's attentiveness and genuine concern for customer satisfaction made it a perfect dining experience. I expected better soul food from Missouri of all places. I thought we were close enough to the south. I ordered mild because I expected a soul food restaurant to really pack the heat in there, but there was ZERO flavor. I had to add half the bottle of hot sauce to my food. Great Cajun Food! The menu has lots to choose from and will give you a moments pause as you read through the variety. I had the Cajun shrimp salad and it was great! My daughter had the Blaackened Chicken PoBoy and it was delish. So big she now has leftovers for dinner too. The hubs had red beans and rice with andouille sausage. The sausage was very flavorful and had the right blend of spices. The service was fantastic. Food came out quickly and our server took great care of us. Highly recommend! read more

I'm a fan of Cajun cuisine. And so, when I heard the name ZYDECO'S SOUTHERN I knew I had to try it out. I followed my GPS from Lee's Summit to Warrensburg easy enough. But once I got close, it was a little bit hard to find. The best advice I could give would be to look for the DAIRY QUEEN and then sneak back behind it and park. And there it is, tucked away in the little strip mall behind the DQ. I arrived on a rainy Tuesday afternoon at three o'clock and the restaurant was empty. The adjacent bar showed some signs of life, so I went in there and sat at the counter. The menu was surprisingly inclusive. There was a substantial offering of Cajun and Creole but, to my surprise, a surprising array of American standard cuisine including soul food as well. I came in with my heart set on the best Louisana soul food they had to offer and I couldn't decide between their gumbo and their jambalaya. My genius waitress suggested I try a half order of each which I readily agreed to. I was not the least bit disappointed. I will be going back again soon to explore more of their Cajun soul food -- for sure. read more

We saw Zydeco's and noticed it was a local hometown restaurant. We went for lunch and had a good time. We tried their fried pickles (definitely handmade) and the Zydeco Meatloaf ,which my wife and I split, and got a side of hush puppies! Everything was hand made as they promote! Hot and fresh. We noticed this place earlier in the week by accident and put in an online order today for curbside pickup. We had a little issue with the availability of one item (no fault of the restaurant) and the owner made it more than right :). Excellent customer service and even better food! Everything was awesome. We love Cajun and they knocked it out of the park. Po boys were delicious, jambalaya yum and the gumbo was spot on. I loved that you could request the level of heat and everything was fresh. I also had a beignet (thanks again) and it was delicious. We want to eat inside next time because the staff was super friendly. So glad we stumbled on this place. It was fantastic! We went Father's Day. They had been very busy. We weren't in a hurry. Well worth the wait. The Zydeco pasta was Delish. Tried a little bit of everything. Tenderloin sandwich. Yum. Wanted to try something different for date night and still wanted to support small business. When you walk in you can choose the bar area or restaurant. Great idea splitting the two up. Keeps the ambiance separate. There really isn't too much ambiance to speak of, some Mardi Gras masks on the walls, a painting or two and purple and green walls. Maybe jazz it up a bit more?? I digress, we were seated fairly quick and drinks were out fast. There was only one maybe two servers on but the place isn't that big. The server we had was very knowledgeable about the menu. The food took a little while to come out but that could of been from cooking it fresh. We had the popcorn shrimp as an appetizer, which was decent. I mean it's popcorn shrimp. Lol I had the Zydeco's Pasta and my Wife had the 1/2 Jambalaya, extra spicy. The pasta was amazing, the andouille sausage was used for both dishes. They spare no expense. The person in charge of the kitchen needs to take a trip to Louisiana and/or check-out a few Emeril and Donald Link cookbooks. Happy to provide some cooking lessons myself and I am not cajun or from LA. The service was very good and friendly and the restaurant was clean. Maybe the bar side is fun but don't come for the food unless there is a significant change in recipes. The gumbo did not have a proper roux. It looked like the cook burned the flour and used it anyway. My shrimp etoufee looked and tasted like a tomato bisque soup with rice and shrimp tossed in. read more

Just ate here for the first time. Me & my family thought the food was overall yummy! The fried pickle chips, catfish dinner, zucchini & yellow squash, chicken Creole pasta, and Zydeco's special burger were on point!! Great job on the seasonings and portion sizes! The okra and sweet potato fries were basic but still good. However, coming from someone who's had authentic boudin balls and beignets in New Orleans, these weren't that great. Boudin balls were soggy and the beignets were doughy and not enough powdered sugar. We'll definitely eat here again, but now we know what not to order. The food and service at Zydeco restaurant is great. The cheese grits with shrimp , which can be ordered spicy, was excellent. Several people in our group had gumbo, fried shrimp dinner, oyster dinner and boudin sausage dinner, and all were very satisfied with dinner. Some were planning on a return visit. read more

The most disgusting food I have ever had in my life. My boyfriend and I were the only customers in the whole restaurant and it just seemed very dirty. The jambalaya made me gag instantly and my boyfriend did not eat any of his pasta. The popcorn shrimp reminded me of what they served at elementary school for lunch. Overall a great date night with my lady! I got the crawfish po boy, my girl got the roast beef po boy and we split a 1/2 order of crawfish etouffee -medium spicy. Etouffee was awesome!! Perfect cream sauce consistency! Best I've had since leaving New Orleans!!! Woulda liked a little more crawfish in it but that's just me. The roast beef Po boy.......a real winner!!! Has a very unique sauce that mixed great with the perfectly cooked meat and veggies. Come to find out it was a chocolate based sauce!! Bread is from a local bakery and was perfect to soak up that amazing sauce!!!! The crawfish po boy.......was good. Best part was the house made ramalaude sauce.....but woulda liked more of it. Same bread as the other po boy but while it was great with the very saucy sandwich.....made the crawfish one a little on the dry side.....hence....gonna order extra next time. Maybe make a sorta slaw with the ramalaude....just needed some more moisture. Service was good.... a little slow to get our beers....even though it wasn't busy. Food came out fast once we got it ordered. Owner was a really nice guy....came out and talked with us about the meal.... guess he heard us kinda reviewing the food to each other. Ended up giving us a couple of promo shots that they are creating!!!! Was a real winner. Atmosphere....well..... it was dead on a Friday night....but think that just might be Covid. They were doing quite a bit of take out though. Place has too sides....dinning side and bar side. Dinning side could use some work. You can see they were going for a classic Cajun look....but feels a little warehousy. The bar side was much better. Looked much more cozy and inviting. Also have a few TVs up.....might be a good place to go watch the game! Gonna sit on that side next time. Overall....would highly recommend this place. If you want Cajun food in Warrensburg this is a decent place to eat. I got it delivered and I was not disappointed. When I sat down inside, the service is minimal with one waitress available was slow. In my opinion the food is good for the price. I got the catfish dinner with extra hushpuppies. I've tried the beans they are a bit bland for my taste. The coleslaw is good just need a bit less pepper. read more

Used to live in Bouttee, Louisiana and have missed fried crawfish tails, good fried catfish, red beans and rice and - you get the picture. Anyway, we love this place. Not much ambiance, but that's not what we're looking for. The service was a little slow, but restaurants now days are hurting for help, so they get a pass for that. Everything we had was fresh and delicious. The only disappointment was in the beignets. They were underdone and doughy. May have been a fluke, but at $2 per beignet I wouldn't try them again. read more

Definitely worth trying out if you're curious! The food is all fresh and use local sources. The white sauce is amazing and even for the price the portions aren't skipped out on.
