Decided to stop in the showroom on a day off and met Alex who basically ignored me till the warehouse worker helped. He then gave me a quote for their "best" nylon carpet installed. I asked for a quote for a color they didn't have in stock and the price doubled. Then asked for a ballpark price for another tier of nylon carpet and the price was just made up out of thin air. It gets better, he says he can drop 1k off the first quote price. Then proceeded to get upset because I won't agree to a purchase / install on the spot. Will gladly go spend money else where other than this shady spot.. I'm sure he would have substituted the padding or something for else to make his profit. He fits right in with all the sketchy car dealerships around him.

On August 19, 2026 we signed a contract with A. J. Carpet & Flooring in Gainesville,Virginia for…read morethe purchase and installation of 1,654 feet of french oaks floors (66 boxes). When we selected the product, we had samples from 3 different vendors, and none of the samples of the same product showed large knots like the ones we received. On August 27th the boxes were delivered to our house. We opened 2 boxes and checked some of the planks and they looked acceptable. The installation was scheduled to start on July 31, 2026. The first day of installation the 3 member crew arrived at 8:00 am. They placed long sheets of plastic in the entrance to the kitchen and formal dining and living rooms to keep the dust from spreading. We were confined in the kitchen area, so we couldn't see what was happening with the installation. Around 11:00 am, on our way to the bathroom, we see the foyer, half bath and living room floor installation for the very first time. We couldn't believe what we were seeing. The installers placed the largest knots in the foyer. The first thing you see when walking into our home are the most unappealing planks. The planks with the bigger knots were placed in a highly visible area. Front and center, to the left and right of front door and coat closet. The planks don't look beautiful and balanced. I expressed my dissatisfaction. Who in their right mind would do something like this? Especially installers with 16 and 14 years of experience according to what they personally told us. What they didn't do was "Culling" which is a separation or sorting out of the wood boxes to remove boards with large knots and use them for closets and areas that are not highly visible. Alex the owner of A.J.Carpet. came over our house and tried to convince us that the planks were "beautiful and that was what people liked", in his attempt to gaslight us. He didn't offer any options, a fix or any solution to address any on our concerns. Thereafter, the installer separated and distributed the planks as they shoud had from the beginning, resulting in a more acceptable installation for the remainder of the house. When the job was completed, the lead installer called A.J.Carpet to express our continous displeasure or dissatifaction with the product and installation. There also was a disagreement between the owner and the lead installer regarding payment for the installation which we shouldn't had been involved in. During this call, Alex, the owner was aggressive, dissmisive and spoke in an unacceptable tone to us. I went to A.J.Carpet on the 14th of September. He would not talk to me, saying he had an appt and he left the building. I asked him to call me and come by the house. We have not heard from him. To those reading my review, please be very careful when choosing a product and choosing the business. They are nothing but order takers and the installers don't take the time to cull the product.
